  1. I've never really understood why people book hotels to stay in after a speedway meeting as, apart from when i have watched speedway abroad - and not always then, I have always driven to and back home from the meeting on the same day - maybe not reaching home until the next day. Went to a few World Finals in Europe and returned the same day too. This must be a modern day phenomena as in the 70's/80's/90's very few, if any fans travelling to away meetings would even contemplate the thought of staying overnight in an hotel, let alone the additional cost and, with midweek meeting, loss of earnings. Although, as you say you have a great granddaughter, you may be even older than me. You must be much wealthier than me then, Brock.
  2. And what, may I ask, have you added to the topic in your last two posts? I was asked a question and I replied. You talk about sniping at other posters, and childishness, and have then produced two posts that have done exactly that. Not just sniping at me, but at Sidney too. Pot / Kettle. I take it you are one of the Forum clique. So well done, your actions have resulted in four posts on this page that have not been about the thread topic. You have the option to put me on Ignore, or Report me. Please do so, if I upset you so much. Thank you saying that my family and I are boring. So not just insult a poster, but insult their family too. That is way, way out of order. Enough of 'Daytripper', lets get back to the Thread. Enjoy your Speedway.
  3. Apologies Chris, good to hear and, yes, I should not have used such a broad brush and rather have put: a typical bias from certain Poole supporters. Thank you for picking me up on this.
  4. No epistle, but do I see you have appended a number of 'rofl's' for some reason, SL . More than I thought the forum allows, but then you are a Star, lady. As you say, if the Promoter won't back it, but I was really alluding to the separate Thread that Theresa had started, as she appeared to be in favour of an active Supporters' Club and was inviting suggestions for ideas, etc. from the BSF. Glad to hear you do - for life is quite absurd and death's the final word... Enjoy your speedway, when you go next Back to the Thread topic: At it's best speedway is not boring and is the best spectacle sport can provide, imo.
  5. I read that first time round, Cat, as Bridger doing a porno video at Eastbourne. I knew a few things went on behind the pits and in the trees back in the 70's and 80's, and there was you posting earlier about being in the bar and dancing around in just an Adam Ellis T-shirt... but Phew, it wasn't as I had first seen it. As you say, probably didn't want oiks like us messing up the BT promo ad. An empty stadium probably looks better than one with a scattered few on the terraces.
  6. That's a great comment, Danny. 'On the ball City', what a song And another great comment - Yes, 'Bring Back Grippy Tracks', when do you start up the petition? Another great post. You picked up on Headmaster Addio being all supercilious again. Doesn't just pick on me then. He really must be my old English Teacher, Mr Pratt, I think his name was. Yes Headmaster, sorry Headmaster. Thought you could have stopped your opening sentence at 'backward', Trees - no, only joking. Salt of the surf and turf, the good folk of the North of East Anglia. If they can't do something, Norfolkin person can. May do it s-l-o-w-l-y, but always get there in the end. Just like my missus. I thought your second sentence said, 'fist bender' and thought this must be new Uri Geller trick, or that Herbie Hide had been let loose on someone. But then I re-read it. Are the noisy folk snoring, or are they cheering their hearts out. Give me an 'S', give me a 'T' - oh thanks love, I can murder a nice cuppa tea. So, it looks as if its up to you and Danny to get the party started on the apex of 1 and 2 then and I hope when I am next at the Adrian Flux, I will enjoy the atmosphere that you have created. All the best with that and maybe you can get the Supporters Club involved too. Enjoy your speedway.
  7. Brilliant. When I first saw the thread's title, I did think it must be about a new competition, rather than the #8. Or maybe 8's rowing teams that the PL had put together, due to the number of waterlogged tracks and postponements at the start of this season.
  8. SS is angry ? Never of guessed would we ? An angry and frustrated SS? Not good, As I said in my earlier post, I simply despair sometimes. Not sure TW108 has 'shunned' his own country's league to entertain fans necessarily, more to earn better money and to offer him a better opportunity to excel in the SGP series. Hold on a minute - you called him a 'Plastic Brit' before, whereas now you say: 'shunned his own country's league' - an admission therefore that he is indeed 100% British. Well done SS, I knew you could do it. Welcome to the 'Tai is British' side of the forum. No more comments of 'Plastic Brit' from you then now. Alienated some UK fans maybe, but nowhere near all, or even the majority - unless you have facts to disprove this. Whilst all professional sports people could always use extra sponsorship, looking at his web-site, Tai seems to be doing ok for sponsorship. But then, maybe 'a but of sponsorship' is more than a lot? Split? What as in 'split in half', as I don't think that has been anywhere near proven and I would be surprised if this split manifests itself to any great degree at Cardiff, at the SWC, or at the re-staging of the Peter Craven Meeting if he is invited back to that, if he accepts and if the NSS can fit it in to the diminishing weeks of the season. You may hear Star Lady emitting a 'boo' or giving him 'the silent treatment' and speedibee may become an uncowardly lion for few minutes and be brave enough to flick Tai the finger from the top tier of the Principality Stadium, but the majority of true British speedway fans would be proud to have one of their own as the World Champion and will show their support for a rider who could become ranked the greatest ever Brit this season, I would've thought. Will he regret not riding more in the UK when he has, hopefully, safely retired? Maybe, but he might just be too busy counting his money, soaking up the sunshine, flipping out on an MX, skydiving, taking out his boat, water skiing, walking round his mansion and enjoying the family lifestyle that his skills will have provided by then back in his own country ... whoops, I mean, when he finally settles down in Western Australia . Or maybe he will just chuck it all in and test his talents in another motor sport discipline and 'shun' the whole sport. Whatever he does, I wish him well.
  9. Confused is not good dear Doctor. The Doctor Who I did provide a brief CV for earlier, following your previous enquiry, but let me see if I can prescribe a remedy for your current state of confuddlement, Threatening? Hardly. Little old me at my great age and physical frailties? I don't think so, young man. Never swung a punch in anger in my life. Stabbed a couple of people, but never hit anyone - only joshing about the stabbing... You don't have to be active to read posts, even when you are 10,000 miles away from the 'B' of the BSF. Some like dear old Kevin M aka Humphrey A, are very active as well despite being in sunny Queensland. Maybe you would be kind enough to direct me to an example of a post where you felt that I conveyed a threatening interface, as that would assist me in allaying these fears that you seem to have and will allow me to improve my wholly insignificant scribblings in the future? My previous involvement in my beloved sport, both within the UK, Europe and the Antipodes has provided me with a thorough insight into the whole gamut of speedway, on both sides of the fence, where the bikes are prepared, etc. 'Names and tracks and all sorts', are quite familiar to me, due to that. Ah, BWitcher (a strange pseudonym for a former follower of the Canis Lupus, don't you think? Portrays more of a Suffolk persuasion. Then, I suppose, he does present traits of a pack mentality at times and has roamed quite a distance to his current lair on the Iberian Peninsula.) You enjoy inviting PMs do you not, but I tend to desist from such methods of intercourse due to the PM that I received some time ago now from a BSF member who felt it necessary to offer me some physical violence following an exchange of views on a matter, after said member had lost his rag somewhat and was immature enough to sink to such a level? As mentioned before, dear boy, not a Troll, just a simple BSF member with an interest in all things speedway and fair play. If you are searching for Scandinavian cave dwellers, may I point you in the direction of Fred Flounder, Drop A Log and Game Off, as they, to me, portray far greater evidence of trolling accusations than I. That Mr Addio seems to be a bit of a card too. I had an interesting discourse with some Panters fans the other day, but all resolved in a jolly manner and friends again now. Just as it should be on this medium. Thank you for your kind thought in respect of my employment situation, but I fear you misunderstood me as I am fully employed currently, but have been steeling myself for bad news which appears to have dissipated a little lately. I am not directly employed by the company at risk, but my present income virtually depends on that company's survival. Will it be an Indian summer I wonder? Having travelled back to these shores, mainly due to my profession - with the additional benefit of being closer to my relatives and allowing my son to progress his speedway skills, it would be a darned nuisance if I had to seek out another client and possibly uproot from the lovely Yorkshire countryside. The missus is employed currently too, teaching foreign languages at a college. Enough of me again. Thank you again for your interest in me, but I am of very little significance in the whole gamut of the world and all its ills. Bless you Tom, I trust that the shift patterns that are aligned with your job as a hospital porter are not too stressful for you currently and that you have an uninterrupted and pleasant repose. What a conundrum, eh you tall poppy you? Now, back to the Unsympathetic Poole Promoter thread -------
  10. OK, we get it, Robert72, you don't like Tai Woffinden. Doesn't mean you have to keep saying it over and over again. And, would you really want Tai to be excluded from Team GB in the SWC? Really? Cut off nose to spite face? Lessen your country's chances of competing and possibly getting on the rostrum, or better? Deprive the people who do want to watch the best team that GB can put out and want to watch the two time British World Champion ride in this country, the opportunity of doing so? The one true world class rider Britain has. A British sportsman who excels in his field. And for what purpose? To teach him a lesson, or to satisfy you? A very poor and sad point of view in my opinion. (I won't point out the miss-spelling you made in your last sentence, but it did make me chuckle. Thank you. I just wonder how much they will get for it.) I love Chris Harris to bits, and his Team Harris initiative is great, but he is taking young riders and young mechanics to SGP's with him? British and Polish league meetings, I would understand, but SGP's, really?
  11. I doubt Danish riders get slagged off by Danish fans as much as the British World Champion (born in Scunthorpe to British parents) does by a certain section of, so called, British speedway fans. If Tai had ridden for the Pirates, Poole fans would be tripping over themselves defending him. These comments just convey a typical Poole bias I'm afraid. Ask yourself this, if your club signed Tai Woffinden, would you stop going, or would you go and not support him, even boo him?
  12. Ridiculous, typically biased post by SS who is so obviously jealous that Tai hasn't and doesn't want to ride for Poole. Plastic British Speedway Fan. Is that why you aren't nice to anyone, apart from Matt Ford, as you know you will never go upwards, let alone reach the top? Pathetic bunch? Pathetic post. Attack the post and not the poster. Anyone who resorts to name calling is immature, is unable to get their point (if they actually have one) across and has so obviously lost the argument - and the plot. Should be Reported. Backs up my previous comment. Typical, anti-Tai comment, from Robert72, with no reasoning, which makes it worthless, or even pointless. 'Distain'? Is that the one in your pants SS? And 'brake'? Is that all Tai got from British speedway, a brake, which he can't use on his speedway bike? No wonder the boy doesn't ride in Britain these days. He's not Polish or Swedish, but he's probably got more from both those countries than a useless brake. Plus 'craping'? Why, is he in mourning? How many extra people would the World Champion really add to attendances in Britain these days? Many years ago, the World Champion was a draw-card, but these days. It didn't make much difference to attendances when Havelock and Loram won their Titles. Then, going on some of the comments on here, maybe extra people would turn up to boo him, or give him the silent treatment, or throw rotten tomatoes at him. Gee, he's a professional sportsman in the second decade of the 21st century who can chose wherever the heck he wants to ride and earn money, a profession that proffers a fairly short career opportunity and, which can and has been drastically and tragically shortened for many riders. Disappointing that he doesn't participate in league speedway in Britain? Maybe. His privilege to do so? Definitely. So... another Thread about Tai Woffinden turns into an opportunity to knock the lad who risks life and limb every time he swings a leg over a speedway bike, is British, rides in the SGP in a British race-jacket and, wants to and does ride for Britain in the SWC, with passion and pride. I despair at times.
  13. It's you, Pug. Maybe you are in a comma and will, hopefully, wake up soon .
  14. But why has he always got to be so supercilious with his comments? Maybe he can't see past his, ever extending nose, or maybe his headmaster's mortar board has slipped? There's a number of posters on the BSF who can never appreciate, or even recognise, another poster's opinion / point of view, or even their right to have one, and Mr Addio appears to be one of them. They really can be quite obnoxious and aggressive with their posts which, I feel, can intimidate other posters which is not what a forum should be about. And if you attempt to stand up to them.......... Forum: 'A place, meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged'. I.E., not a place to browbeat, or bully, others with your own opinion. I could name at least six BSF posters who, I feel, do this - but I won't, for fear of retribution and rebuke. Enjoy your Speedway. ========================================================================================================== Is speedway boring - No, not in my opinion. I have attended some meetings this season, for example Scunthorpe v Ipswich, where the racing in the most part, and the closeness of the match score made for, in my opinion, a 9/10 standard spectacle. Rye House v Peterborough on Sunday had some great racing, but not such a close scoreline, which I would rate as 8/10. The meeting at Mildenhall on Sunday had fewer good races and a large difference in the scores, but the sun was out, the food was good, the real ale was superb, the banter was great and the NL standard riders were giving it 100%, and another 8/10, in my view. So, for me, it does not require SGP standard riders in a modern purpose built stadium to entertain me (but is that because of when and the way I grew up and the values that have been instilled in me?). I watched the Leicester v Swindon match on the TV. A few good races, a chance to chuckle at Rosco's ever reddening face, an almost old-fashioned altercation in the pits between old sparring partners Tungate and Auty (one to be followed during the season), some nice riding by a few of the riders and an appreciation of Glyn Taylor's efforts to improve the racing strip, which were hampered by the weather this country experienced in early Spring. Over all 15 heats maybe a 6/10? Is 6/10 boring or acceptable? I don't like comparing speedway with football, but Barcelona are considered the top club side in Europe, if not the world, currently, and are said to 'entertain' all the time. Is this true and, if so, how do they achieve this level of perception? Maybe it is not true and it is a fallacy borne out by football followers and its sport's vast media's desire to promote their sport, rather than knock it, Maybe, having experienced the sport in the 70's, I was spoilt, but maybe my expectations then were lower and, because of my youthful age and lack of life experiences, I did not have so many comparisons to make and just 'perceived' that the spectacle was better than it really was. Four ordinary blokes - a butcher, a baker, a candlestick maker and... a factory worker - on bikes for four laps with no brakes. Brilliant. Even back then, not all the riders made themselves available to chat with, before and after meetings, but I still find the majority today are as willing and keen to interact with the fans. Maybe you just need to approach them first. A 'hello' and a 'good luck tonight' is a simple ice breaker. One thing I have found is that, maybe due to the nature of the sport, the participants themselves love it and are fans of it and I doubt you could say that of all sports. You don't become a speedway rider simply for the money, the downsides of the sport are too great. Maybe the sport should tap into the participants' enthusiasm for their sport more and radiate that enthusiasm outward to the public at large. Sponsoring a rider for a tyre for the meeting provides you with a personal involvement - 't'at's my tyre going round t'ere on the t'back of t'at there bike, pet', or offer to 'dope and oil' for a lower level rider for the night. Every little helps - as the missus tells me. It certainly seemed more of a show then, than it is now. Was that down to better promotion in those days, or again, lower expectations? Life has got quicker with the desire to have things brought to us immediately and in comfort, be it information, fast food, or our entertainment. Has life quality improved through this? Personally I don't think so, but today's teenagers and twenty something's would not tolerate the voids that regular speedway presents to us, during meetings. Is this why the next generation is going to be lost to the sport? Maybe. Certainly younger people these days seem to enjoy home comforts far more than we did. During the recent Easter break I hardly saw one child out riding a bike or kids playing football in a park. Times have changed of course, but maybe today's kids won't tolerate standing in an old style stadium on a cold evening, filling in a printed programme with a pen, because they are not used to being outside, making their own entertainment. Is this why ice hockey, a fast action sport staged indoors with high levels of presentation and fan involvement appears to be doing well in this country? Kids expect their entertainment brought to them, immediately, in comfort and in ultra HD. Not what speedway in the raw offers on a cold Thursday evening at The Abbey. I do not know how to solve speedway's ills, but what I do know is that I loved the sport then, and I still do know. Still proud to say that In am a speedway fan and follower, whatever derision that may bring. As I said before, at its best, in my opinion, speedway is the most entertaining sport that exists. Whatever you do, Enjoy your Speedway.
  15. 'Now that I have deigned to turn my attention to the thread topic'? My god man, you do come over very haughty the way you respond to my posts. If you go back over the thread, I think you will find that I joined it in support of another poster's opinion, which was 'on topic'. The reason it went 'off topic', was due to another poster, 'BWitcher'. attacking me. And don't accuse me of taking this thread off topic again, as if you hadn't of used that supercilious expression, I would not have responded.Maybe 'Liked' your post, but no responded. I have just posted on the Wolves v Lakeside thread in support of you and mentioned that I may be visiting the Arena on Friday. It will be a pleasure to meet you there. No doubt you will be easy to spot, as you really do remind me of my English teacher. (Please put me on Ignore if you detest me as much as you appear to. I ignored my English teacher, but achieved 'A' grades in my language and literature exams.) Now. back on topic: Is speedway, at its best, the most entertaining sport that exists?
  16. Think you're right Mr Addio. Looks as if Game On has got his information wrong. Not sure why he didn't think Lakeside v Swindon was scheduled for four days time on Friday. Maybe he thought it was at Swindon on Thurday, but Belle Vue are due there that day. I might come down on Friday to watch this and say hello, as I am planning on visiting Arlington for their Cup match against the Fen Tigers, before going back to see Scorps v Devils at the EWR on Sunday. Easier to do having relatives in Billericay and Hastings. Will depend on the weather forecast. Poor show by AJ's standards tonight. Not sure what he is usually like around Monmore. Good to see Lewis Kerr picking up a heat win.
  17. Thanks Steve. I've seen some of your posts in the 'olden days' threads and have enjoyed those too, so the feeling is reciprocated. Totally agree, Mr Addio and lets... Did I find speedway boring in the late 60's to the middle of the '80's - No. Did I find speedway during Denmark's dominance and when dirt deflectors and lay-downs appeared - Yes. Do I find speedway boring now - Sometimes, but it can still produce the best sports entertainment - when it is good, it is very very good, when it is bad, it can be awful. Has speedway changed, or have I? Maybe we both have. Do I think there is a bigger difference now between the top riders and the 'others' - to be honest, I don't know. A second string now, mounted on a rocket ship can beat anyone if he gates. A second string or reserve beating a HL, back in the '70's was a cause of skill, daring, maybe a bit of luck and of great celebration. I have generally been lucky enough to have an association of some kind with the sport, rather than simply as a spectator. Minor participant, mechanic, backer, buyer of pints in the bar after a meeting, driver, landlord, father - and that has enhanced it. Standing in the pits, hoping that you have doped & oiled, put in the right sprocket and tightened all the bits that need tightening, does focus your attention. Enjoy your speedway. Thanks again Sidney, but don't worry. Addio doesn't bother me. His post which he started with: 'If you bother to read Stoke Potters post properly' summed the poster up for me. Is he a Lakeside fan? I've usually found them to be ok. Always an exception to the general rule I guess. Maybe he is my old English teacher
  18. Always enjoy a bit of banter, but some people just seem to want to browbeat other posters and just have to seen to be right all the time - to themselves, anyway. Their shortcomings I guess. They probably feel safe on here and are very 'small' people in real life. And as you say, I always try to add a bit of humour and self-deprecation, If you can't laugh at yourself, then you can't laugh at (or feel superior to) anyone else. (On my post where I was alluding to the English tourist trying to get his point across, I kept thinking of John Cleese as Basil Fawlty). I've noticed the element of ganging up - that is one of the reasons I gave up with the Forum for a few years, and there does seem to be a clique of half a dozen posters or so. On another thread, a poster called 'The Doctor' chipped in and seemed to be part of the clique. They probably feel safe and big in each others company. Disappointing really, but hey ho. Anyway, nice chatting and thanks again. At least this thread has not been 'Boring', as it is titled.
  19. A noble, intelligent, response. Bless you BWitcher. Maybe I have hit a raw nerve with you. As I said on another thread, you can always use the ignore option on here. EDIT: to add, I thought this was a Forum and the definition of a forum, as far as I know is: 'A place, meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged'. I cannot find a definition that suggests that a forum is a place to browbeat another person with their own opinion. Maybe in the days when forums did not exist on social media, the people who debated the issues were more civilised than appears to be the case on here with certain posters. Thank you (multumesc) Sidney the Robin and Colin.
  20. Not a Troll as explained on the Matt Ford - No Sympathy thread, on which I have just responded to a question you raised earlier that I had missed. Not quite sure why you say that I was 'insulting'. Just re-read my post and can't see any insults there. Just expressing my opinions and how I view things, just like you do on here, and no doubt in your real life. Bless you. Don't worry yourself about me. I don't know if intelligence is gauged by how many languages a person speaks, but if it is, how intelligent is someone who speaks four? English, French, Russian and Romanian are the ones, if that matters to you. Can't speak Portuguese though, even though I once had a neighbour who was Portuguese and I picked up a few words like 'obrigado'. You do seem to like 'correcting' people don't you. Is that your profession?
  21. Very good - or google is very good. I'm not, but the missus is and I seem to be saying 'multumesc' to her all the time Apologies BWitcher, I have only just noticed your question tucked away at the bottom of your post about the word 'Elite' and you being like you are here and also intelligent in the real world, when comparing yourself to the poster you were discussing this subject with. I wouldn't have a clue why you have ended up where you have. Is it because you are intelligent, like you are here in the real world and understand basic English, or do you like sardines and mateus rose wine (showing my ignorance of your new homeland there, aren't I)? Have you retired there? Made loads of money from your knowledge of speedway, or selling your shares in Wolverhampton Speedway, and moved there? Are you an English teacher, as you seem an educated fellow? Did you commit a crime in the UK and now you are in hiding on the Iberian Peninsula? I hope it is not due to health issues. Oh, I give up. Tell me the reason please, I am very interested to find out. For a chap who maintains a constant vigil on the BSF, it does seem an odd country to choose though, no speedway there and all that. 'Mutumesc' or indeed, in your case 'obrigado'.
  22. Does this include Scorps PLC fixture at Peterborough when Holub was injured in his first ride, Iron? (Is that what is termed as a 'Frustrated' Ride). And, if it does, is it correct to include it? I have no idea, by the way. Think you are right too, when you say that Holub's MA cannot go below an Assessed 5.00 this season. And a PL rider on an Assessed MA cannot be removed from a Team declaration.
  23. Incorrect. Not a troll - I leave that to 'Fred Flange', 'Drop A Cog', 'Game On', etc. If you see the posts where the Liar Troll 'Game On' has been trolling me, I hope that you will reconsider. I had an exchange of views with 'Robert72' on another thread too. He is an interesting poster. Correct that I have not posted for many years. But I have been reading the Forum and observing the exchanges. Both you,' BWitcher', and 'The Doctor' who asked the question about me, I believe have very strong opinions on speedway and other matters. For those that may be interested in me, my CV shows: I am a fan of speedway and have been involved for many years both here and in other countries. I recently returned to the UK with my son to widen his experience of riding speedway. My job, and where I live now live, means that the EWR is my closest track, but I travel the country watching speedway and attending training sessions. I travelled from Yorkshire to watch the Eastbourne v Kent match that was postponed on Saturday, so diverted and went to Hoddesdon. I am in the background in some of the pictures that Steve Hone took at the meeting with the Panters. I stayed with relatives in Essex overnight and called in at West Row on the way back to my home on Sunday, as there was no match at the EWR yesterday. Yes, I joined the Forum a while ago but, after receiving a threat of physical violence from a poster, I ceased posting and simply read and observed. I have no malice toward that person and I see that they are a member here still. Anyway, enough of me. This is a thread about the Poole Promoter having No Sympathy, or maybe about people having No Sympathy for Matt Ford. If you don't like my posts, as BWitcher suggests - ignore me. Many have in the past and many will in the future. Thank You = Multumesc.
  24. Blessed is the man who can laugh at himself as, when a person can no longer laugh at himself, it is time for others to laugh at him. As Proverb 17:22 states, 'A merry heart does good like medicine'. Or, as in Matthew 5:5, 'Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth, for the vain man sets himself up for a fall.' Wise words. Bless you Steve Shovlar, you have entertained many for years. Carry on enjoying your speedway, posting on here and your Kodi.
