Has any one any information on a speedway venture in Manilla, Phillipines in the mid seventies and australian rider garry hay who was at Eastbourne and West Ham 1969-1970.,? I think Bert Kingston was in the manilla venture as well. Tony

Tony Webb from Brisbane Australia. I have a publication , A-Z of speedway frames 1928-1980. we listed 85 frames, but not a Star trax there is: Dirtrax Staride Rotrax. I am very interested. questions where is the name on the frame? is it on a badge or engraved. It could be Tony Childs who actually staeted riding in 1962 at Norwich. If you have an image send it to binbooks@iinet.net.au Would like to solve this mystery

“Speedway Tonight” The Story of Davies Park. Speedway by Tony Webb ISBN 978 1 921555 50 3 This 140 page soft cover publication just released by Boolarong Press, Queensland Historical publishers, of Brisbane, traces the history of speedway racing at Davies Park, Brisbane 1927-1932. This well researched book by Tony Webb includes a study of the legendary promoter A.J. Hunting, commentary on the Australian riders corresponding seasons in England, details of company structures, Council decisions and social connections. There are over 60 rare photographs, many from private collections, riders statistics, a list of Davies Park riders, bibliography, interviews with speedway personalities, endnotes and index. Separate chapters have been devoted to A. J. Hunting, the late Jack Arnott and speedway riders who became aviators. Also included are biographies on all the members of the original Australian party to England The book has the approval of the A.J. Hunting family who granted the author a rare interview with access to family documents. The author’s objectives were to firmly state the part that Queensland played in the export of the concept of speedway racing to the world and to claim its place in the heritage of speedway racing. Recognition is also given to the late Jack Arnott of New Zealand who was the sole fatality at Davies Park. Many little known facts were uncovered during the author’s research which make interesting reading such as, Johnnie Hoskins bid to promote at Davies Park, First Grand Prix at Davies Park, Lionel Wills was not a member of the tobacco company, Lionel Van Praag rode at Davies Park as Les Van Praag, Dick Denty invented the chain tension adjuster. etc. Reg Fearman, former rider, and chairman of the British Speedway Promoters Association, a man who has a close connection with speedway worldwide, wrote the foreword. Price is $29.95 [approx. £17] Available now from the author at 15 Tranquil Street, Sunnybank Hills, QLD 4109 phone 61 7 3711 5885 binbooks@iinet.net.au From the publisher Boolarong Press PO Box 308 Moorrooka QLD 4107. 1/655 Toohey Road, Salisbury, QLD. 4107 61 7 3373-7855 Email publish@boolarongpress.com.au. www.boolarongpress.com.au and on the net www.abebooks.com www.bibliOZ.com The book will also be available on the speedway bookstand at Vintage Speedcar Spectacular at Brisbane Ekka on September 11 2010 Reviews. “A well researched look at a forgotten period of speedway history.” Mark Robertson former Brisbane promoter “Tony Webb has excelled again with his in depth research on Australian speedway history. A worthy addition to my speedway library.” Lester Naumann Toowoomba Queensland This is an amazing book on Davies Park, a speedway circuit that has definitely been ignored in the written history of speedway racing. As a boy fan, rider and promoter I had heard of Davies Park but read almost nothing about it. Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and the Ekka always jumped to mind when discussing speedway tracks. Thank you Tony for opening this window on the past Reg Fearman France

I think the that the insensitive comments made on this forum regarding Andy are harmful to the status of this forum. maybe the moderator has to exercise more control over what is posted other wise it will become a forum to avoid. I knew Andy and his father many years go, [i left england in 1982,] they were both dedicated speedway folk, i do not think that anyones downfall should become a public issue to the extent this has become what do they say There for the grace of God go I Cortney, good on you for supporting your dad. tony

I cannot believe it is thirty years since that fateful night. I was there and I will never forget, many peoples lives were changed for ever, our beloved sport can be so cruel at times. Rest in peace Vic your memory burns as bright as ever. best wishes to Steve and all of Vics family and friends. tony

Looking thru some 1958 Speedway Stars it was reported that Gerry retired to South Australia after the 1956 season and stayed there in 1957. He was called by Leicester to replace Ken Mckinlay in 1958. Ken was reported as intending to stay in Australia in 1958 but then changed his mind! My mistake on Gerry's accident arose as it was the 1958/1959 Australian season which always causes confusion. with references to championships etc. as the season covers 2 years. Tony

I was most fortunate to have been at Bluey Scotts home last September, when Bluey was on the phone to Bob, I was invited to have a few words with him, I was apprehensive, as I knew he was not in the best of health, but he talked in amazing detail of that Wembley final, his memory was as clear as a bell. I really treasure that memory as he was one of my boyhood heroes with that trademark white scarf and spectacular style. Tony

I agree with you Speedway Guy , Basil Storey was the daddy of them all, my all time hero. when you think that he single handed produced the Speedway Gazette with a circulation of 100,000 weekly while also holding down a job is incredible. Also he was based in the north east with an office in London and never drove a car!!. latter day hacks could not hold a candle to Baz. Tony
