I thought Kerr won that one too but my view wasn't perfect so I asked someone at the tapes at the end. They said Clegg got it. I, too, thought Fisher should have been excluded. He was at 45 degrees across the track and it shouldn't take a crash for a rider to be disqualified. I also thought that Douglas caused Kerr to fall in heat 15 and he should have gone rather than Kerr. Mitchell Davey is declared in Coventry's NL team. As far as I can see he is an NL guest.

An absolutely superb speedway meeting, best I have seen this season and probably for several seasons Only downer was the anti-climax in heat 15 and the fact that Scunthorpe most certainly didn't deserve to lose and, I'd say, Edinburgh didn't deserve to win. Still, this happens. That aside, virtually every race was brilliant and both sides deserve a great deal of credit. Every week we hear fans, promoters, team managers and all sorts of others blaming the weather or stock cars for their crap track. Scunny had a stock car meeting last night and it was a hot, breezy day today. I'll ask again : What do Scunny know that everyone else doesn't ?

Belle Vue V Leicester 15.07.16.
Halifaxtiger replied to Barrow Boy 2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Enjoyed that Not quite the hammering some predicted, though There were a few reasons for that : Leicester's reserves attacked a wet track far more that their opposites from Belle Vue; ultra reliable Max Fricke had all sorts of bikes problems; Scott Nicholls had a poor night; there was a very impressive performance from Patrick Hougaard. Some decent racing, though - in particular heat 11, when Wozniak and Worrall went wheel to wheel for best part of 3 laps. Quick word for the track staff : when I arrived the surface was like a swamp. An hour or so later we had a good racing track - good enough for Matej Zagar to equal the track record, anyway. Only one complaint : charging full price for an insert is a rip off -
Little harsh. True, it was pretty poor up to heat 11 but after that it was normal service (largely) resumed. To be fair, it was hot, windy day. I am still wondering where Josh Auty came from in heat 13. One second stone last the next first. Brilliant stuff . Good to see Lewis Kerr banging in a couple of heat wins. It may be that the only winners from Ipswich showing him the door will be Scunthorpe. Bandit for life commented on the way out that he was pleased Berwick have already been to EWR. He won't be alone, as Scunny are now an entirely different team. For that reason, I'd say Scunny were that good. On a final note, I am sure that none of us take for granted the continued existence of a speedway track so it was very welcome news that the Scorpions will be coming to the tapes in 2017.

Redcar V Scunthorpe 7/7/16
Halifaxtiger replied to SuperBear's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Its not a matter of averages, its about how they perform on the track. It might be a bit premature to base the rest of the season on one meeting, but they certainly didn't look understrength against Ipswich - far from it. The team (or most of them) rode at their best form on a track that suited them (a track that was the way Scunny usually is). This could be a repeat of last season, with some poor performances early on replaced late on by some much improved ones and some cracking racing thrown in. -
Belle Vue V Wolverhampton 06-07-2016
Halifaxtiger replied to GregoryM's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I didn't think it was that good. Decent, yes, very decent maybe. Certainly enough to make me go back. I think its because its the best shaped track I have ever seen that I am always anticipating something special and I haven't seen it yet. Seeing Tony Swales on the tractor doesn't exactly fill you with confidence, either. Best stadium - yes (although Kent isn't far away, its grandstand is bigger). Best track - potentially, yes, but based upon recent experience others (Scunthorpe for one) are better for racing. I really hope you're right about the World Team Cup, because its also certain that it could be very good indeed. -
Move Over The Elite League.
Halifaxtiger replied to Odds On's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Nothing to do with the fact that you got turned over after leading, I daresay ( I should make it clear that this is the early season Lakeside v Poole). If you regard that as average, you must be really spoilt at Poole. Which, incidentally, must be a different Poole to the one near Bournemouth. I like Wimborne Road, but its not that good. -
Move Over The Elite League.

An expert on the EL then, and someone who can't comment at all about PL or NL tracks other than when they are on Sky (2 or 3 times a season). Bewitcher's point (repeated by others) that you get good and bad speedway in all the leagues is bang on. To me, its a matter of the track rather than the league, and that's what makes the racing in the PL overall slightly better.than either of the other two. The EL simply doesn't have anything to compare with the EWR at Scunthorpe, for example - had Sunday's meeting been televised, reactions on here would have been very different. I have seen 41 matches at 20 different tracks so far and recently confirmed my top 5 so far: Lakeside v Poole (still the best) Sheffield v Newcastle, Isle of Wight (who have set a very high standard) v Belle Vue, Kent v Mildenhall and Scunthorpe v Ipswich. 1EL, 2PL & 2NL pretty much sums it up. -
Good choice but Connor Mountain (or possibly George Wood) for me.

Burst blood vessels, possibly. Berwick deserved another Sky meeting after the effort they put in first time but it shouldn't be a regular thing. Truth is, Shielfield will never be that good. In fact, I'd say we all know what the best racing tracks are and Scunny tops that list. About time EWR had another go if you ask me.
-
Not tonight they weren't. Cracking meeting in which Scunthorpe at last fulfilled their potential against a disappointing Ipswich outfit. Top class racing from the Scorpions, beginning with Douglas and Wilkinson in heat 6 followed by an incredible battle between Davies & Barker in heat 9 - I lost count of how many times they passed each other - before Auty's astonishing ride in heat 11 to pass King & Sarjeant. That one was as good as it gets and the best I have seen this season. I must admit every time I leave EWR - almost always after some terrific racing with the meeting finished in under 90 minutes and Rob Godfrey's extraordinary presentation thrown in (a bit like having a mate on the mic after he's had a few but so affable, down to earth and passionate you really don't care about his mistakes) - I wonder if Scunny can do it and do it consistently why the bloody hell can't everyone else

This is a poor decision. In truth, its very poor. Kevin Jolly and, through him, Mildenhall should be subject to redress but in no way should Cradley benefit from that. In fact, what has happened is that Mildenhall have been punished but Cradley (without a point away in the league) have gained 4 points from a meeting that its entirely possible that they would have not got anything from. That benefits Cradley for no reason whatsoever and, worse, puts all the other clubs at a disadvantage. That, to me, is most difficult to justify. As has been pointed out, a 3 point deduction from Mildenhall and the re-running of the meeting would be far more appropriate. Kevin Jolly has been fined £250, suspended for a year so he may actually pay nothing at all. David Hemsley has been fined £9,000 and his promoters licence suspended. Even allowing for all the circumstances, Jolly's previous good record and the fact that he tried to make amends and clearly regrets what he has done, I'd say the huge difference between the two is also difficult to justify.
-
Consistency isn't one of their strong points. In fact, its pretty non existent. I agree with your conclusion, too. Awarding Cradley the points penalises not just Mildenhall but every team in the league. I'd also say a £250 fine suspended to the end of next season is lenient to say the least given what happened, and I am a fan of Kevin Jolly.

Couple of things from todays meeting : the extraordinary events in heat 14 when Dale Entwhistle failed to put the warning lights on quick enough and both Tom Stokes and Ellis Perks approached a prostrate Shane Hazelden lying on the track at almost full speed. It was remarkable that no-one was injured and Entwhistle should be censured for it. Secondly, on a hot and windy day I thought the track staff did an excellent job. True, there was a blue line and dust but it was nowhere near as bad as I had expected. Big win for Eastbourne against a poor Young Stars side.
-
That's what I heard, too.

Barker rode extremely well on a track that was difficult (the fire engine that is used for watering broke down before the start) but produced some good racing later on. It turned on heat 14 when, according a to a couple of reports, Risager took Kurtz leg as he was going past. Kurtz was excluded, Nielsen made a mess of the re-run and Ipswich were home and dry with Barker & King in heat 15.

Rye House V Plymouth 25/06/2016
Halifaxtiger replied to DragonsDen's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I though Karger took Nielsen out but admittedly didn't have a good view. You're right about Robson (here I had a very good view) as Holder definitely hit him. Considering the earlier down pour, the racing wasn't bad at all and with the stadium improvements I can see why some at least are feeling pretty positive about Rye House. -
I have no idea, I am merely struggling to understand the motivation for advocating that punishment might include shutting the track. What if no-one comes forward ? People aren't exactly queueing up to be promoters. Your solution is tough luck, Mildenhall closes. I wonder how many would agree with that if it was their track involved. As tmc has most accurately said, there wouldn't be any left if we took such an action on every occasion something like this came up. Matt Ford called a meeting off because his team was under strength - aside from the timing and Kevin Jolly's reaction, I really don't see the difference. Punish Jolly for sure. But to the extent that the track closes ? That's plain stupid. No comeback ? Tell that to David Hemsley. The problem is not that there is no comeback, it is that it is not consistently applied. Remove his licence, no-one comes forward, Mildenhall closes. Nice one

Peterborough Vs Plymouth, 21/06/2016
Halifaxtiger replied to Panthers89's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
That's how I saw it. Not a racing incident so much as overriding if not recklessness. -
Absolutely ridiculous and a gross over-reaction What Kevin Jolly did was wrong, no question but take a measure that would lead to the closure of the track ? Beyond belief.and I can't help but think motivated by some grudge against Mildenhall - I certainly can't imagine why anyone thinking rationally would come to such a conclusion in respect of an incident which, though bad, is a first offence. Jolly will be punished two fold : by the BSPA and by those who might well choose to boycott West Row in the future.

Should Tai Woffinden Ride For Team Gb ?
Halifaxtiger replied to robert72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I must admit that I am slightly bemused that it needed to be asked at all. Born in Britain to British parents, who on earth should he be riding for ?
