There's always a risk that you can lose a meeting because of the weather and I accept that as much as anyone. You're certainly right that its harder to bear when you have travelled a distance, but that's how speedway is. This is different, though. No rain was predicted, it hasn't rained and it isn't going to rain. Absolutely no grounds for calling the meeting off due to the weather at all. I check forecasts constantly in the days up to leaving (and on the day) to ensure that the risk of losing one is minimised. That's how I know that King's Lynn are basically lying about a prediction of rain.

Absolutely right. Rain offs when you have travelled are always frustrating but when there is no rain nor was any predicted it becomes infuriating. Simply means I won't go to King's Lynn again for a few seasons. Worse, they are taking us for granted. They (and this doesn't just apply to King's Lynn) simply won't learn that while fans will put up with a lot they won't put up with anything.
-
Isn't it the case that teams who call meetings off unnecessarily are investigated ? Memory serves that Glasgow & Belle Vue were.

Came down for this one and I am in King's Lynn now, maybe a couple of miles from the track. Conscious of the weather, I checked forecasts all day yesterday and all day today and nothing more than a minuscule amount was predicted. I saw no rain all the way down, and that when I arrived (about 4pm) did not even wet the pavements. Its now completely dry, with no rain at all. As I said, I simply can't believe this has been called off and it never entered my head that it would be. Frankly, it hasn't been postponed because of the weather.

There isn't even any drizzle nor was any rain predicted at any point. I simply can't believe its been called off.

No rain predicted was at all and it is completely dry here.

Poole V Swindon Ela 1/5/17 6pm

If you saw Kerr & Nielsen on Sunday at Scunthorpe there would only be one choice. Unlike most Poole riders, Nielsen can beat Nick Morris. -

I thought he was bloody awful last season and couldn't believe it when he was reinstated. Let Neil Drummond have a go and get someone else in the box. -

You actually made too good a job of this Perhaps a little strong for me, but you're dead right I had a choice this weekend : Belle Vue or Scunthorpe. I chose EWR because Hougaard and Bjerre were missing. -
I thought it sounded a lot sceptical I wonder if he will still have it tomorrow
-
Usual high quality EWR meeting Pretty much nip and tuck until Nielsen got going and he was just brilliant, quite possibly the best I have seen him ride. He'll make a huge difference to the Scorpions. Quick word for the track staff on a very windy day. There was dust and a blue line but in the circumstances they did a terrific job

Any idea on the teams ? -
Belle Vue Colts V Mildenhall Fen Tigers Fri 28/4/17

The thing with Belle Vue is that although it is a superb racing track it is about having a lot of power. Glasgow is much smaller, much narrower and therefore more technical. In the end, I suspect riding there will do Smith a world of good. -
Somerset Rebels Vs Kings Lynn Stars : 28th April.

I think that's just about spot on. As you rightly say all fans have the right to air their opinions, those who attend in particular. One of the reasons speedway is on its knees is that those opinions are treated with contempt, derision and, on occasion, abuse. I have to say, though, that things are changing a little. Isle of Wight are the shining light here but the new Redcar promotion are an improvement apparently (then again, compared to Havelock almost anything would be) and Shads has commented that the Rye House set up will listen (unlike the 'sod you' attitude before). There are some things that have to remain confidential but as much as possible should be in the open. Problem with that is you couldn't have crooked, prejudiced rulings made by unknown persons, and there's no way on earth they are going to change that. Dead right . I am pretty sure there are more 'keyboard warriors' who don't go than those who actually do. -
I think the comparison is a slightly unfair one, although I see your point.. I think your view of BAGS contracts keeping dog tracks open is correct - I heard one speedway promoter was terrified that he might lose his - but greyhound racing is all about betting, nothing else. The television coverage is just so that people in bookies can bet on meetings without even being there and see what is going on, which is better than just hearing the results over a tannoy for sure. Betting in speedway certainly exists but it is a much, much lower level and is nowhere near as important. Speedway is about people supporting teams or just liking the racing and I doubt that there are many who go to a bookies just to watch the dogs running round.

I am sure I don't need to remind you that the most successful team manager in British Speedway is Peter Adams. -

Having been in the pits with Dale on a number of occasions, I always got the impression that he was a highly capable team manager (in all aspects of the job) who rarely missed a trick. I am just surprised that he wasn't given the opportunity at the highest level at an earlier point. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that there is an explanation for what on the face of it is the most basic of errors. -
Belle Vue Colts V Mildenhall Fen Tigers Fri 28/4/17
Halifaxtiger replied to mikec's topic in National League Speedway
I think it was but more for the rest of the league than just Mildenhall. Quite simply, no-one predicted that score and it shows just how strong Belle Vue are at home on a track where horse power is very important. Bewley and Smith never really looked like being beaten and Payne was only slightly troubled. Bickley was impressive and Woodhull showed promise. Credit to the Fen Tigers, though, because despite getting battered they never gave up - Mountain especially. -
Says everything about why riders should have absolutely nothing to do with track preparation when every single comment from fans is positive about the quality of the racing. The joke of Britsh Speedway are riders who spit their dummies out because they can't have what they want. They need to learn what we as fans want is far more important because we are paying customers.

Enjoyed that Bit of a spring in the step for Redcar Speedway. They have a very decent team (which will only get more decent when Busch returns) and a top two capable of beating anyone, occasionally in spectacular style. STMP used to be one of the best racing tracks in the country and getting a decent curator on board has meant that there were signs last night that it will be again, with some very good heats considering how wet it was at the start. The boys on the home straight agree, and its clear that one or two are coming back. Got a thumbs up from the returning Yearbyred, and especially pleasing that my old mate Rolypolygoly was there. When he wasn't around last year I thought he had gone to a better place (Hartlepool or North Shields, maybe) but there he was, large as life and at least 6 times as ugly. Good to see you, Kenneth. 4 matches planned for Redcar this season but after last night I suspect it will be more. Big thanks to Boz for the weather updates. He needs to grow up. The track was wet but there was some excellent racing later on and the conditions didn't stop the likes of Barker, Lindgren, Wright, Perks or Andersen.

I fear Workington don't even get that. Isle of Wight's attention to customer service is amazing. One person - just one - complained about the signage at the food outlet last week. This week, the signs have been moved
