  1. It will still be a great match in its own right, will be nice to watch Tai racing around there, and if we can win by 8 or 10 it will be a good way to finish the season.
  2. I take it you don't rate Coventry's chances?
  3. Will probably get shot down in flames for this, but I think this year's EL is the most entertaining for years, as apart from Leicester, every team is in with a shout of winning this year, and Leicester are only short of a number 1, due to their race night. There seem to be more away wins than normal, there feels like fewer guest riders are being used, and racing is very competitive.
  4. I think this will be some event, it was always good at Wolverhamptom but there seemed to be too many crashes, especially on the 1st bend. This will be well worth watching at the new stadium
  5. Was involved in some good races on Monday, especially the one with Jason Garrity
  6. If the crowd was between 3,000 and 3,500, which I believe it was, then it was more than any Seedish team got last week, which has to be a step in the right direction for British speedway surely? The other thing I really liked was the fact that BV had 5 UK riders and Coventry had 5 as well. And they all produced great racing as well!!
  7. Halifaxtiger is right, the track was slick and so passing was at a premium, which was a shame, but i am sure that once the usual curator is back, that will be rectified. By making it slick, they played safe as the last thing they needed was riders moaing about the track on day 1. BV riders bikes were spinning like mad coming out of the corners so couldnt get near the Robins lads, who were well set up. its a great speedway stadium and the track is a shape that will produce great racing. What is needed is: PA system needs tweaking, the acustics werent great in the main stand 2 minute clock on the centre green longer term - a scoreboard, the one glaring omission from a modern stadium Then, liven up the match presentation, make the non racing bits of the night more interesting!! but its 100000000% better than the old place
  8. think Lakeside will give us a bit of a going over this evening, unless Cookie takes an instant like to the track, which i doubt, 53-39 or something like that
  9. i have read here that the Leicester crowds have dropped away a lot over the past season? It appears to me that the problem is that the Promoters seem to have little empathy with the fans who come. The track is finally sorted out, there seems to be a ton of passing there now compared to before, but the customer/promoter relationship is breaking down, which is disasterous. The clubs that are successful have a "bond" between the supporters and the promotion (Glasgow, Poole etc), and the fans arent taken for granted. Hopefully, the BV promotion will do the same at the new stadium, and look to really promote the venue rather than just open it up and hope everyone comes. That seems to be Leicester's issue right now.
  10. i think this could be a decent match, who wins will be decided by which Chris Holder turns up? The one at Wolves or the one who broke the track record at Torun the day before...
  11. not sure it needs to be a fixed race night, but it needs to be once a week racing to entice the best over here (or at least some of them). Plus, they will want good money as they will need bikes and mechanics. as they cant use the Sweden/Poland bikes. Plus, EL tracks should all have covers to reduce the number of rain offs, a 28 match season probably means 40 trips over for those who dont live in UK
  12. Well it sounds like those who actually went along got a great speedway match to watch, KL getting a point with Lambert beating Hougaard on the run in to the line. I do think every now and then, we all need to stop worrying about rules regulations conspiracies etc etc and just enjoy watching the bloody sport
  13. The Bees should persevere with Garrity in the main body of the team, he will improve over the season and will end it as a potential heat leader. Clubs need to be patient with the ambitious young GB riders, there are relatively few of them and Garritty could end up a proper rider...
  14. Last night was so so disappointing, and whilst I applaud everything the promotion has done to get the stadium ready, the whole event was 2 weeks too early, you could see that from the fact they tried to cram 2 min speedway test events in on the weekend before. They really should have bitten the bullet and moved the opening date a week or so, and done it a while ago. However having announced the opening night date so early they backed themselves into a corner in the basis that the stadium was delayed in completion. Publically financed facilities, which this is, are often delayed due to red tape etc that a privately financed stadium wouldn't have. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and the future of the stadium is now dependent on what the promotion do NOW. We all know it wasn't the riders fault, the track wasn't ready and BV promotion bottled it by hoping for the best, rather than thinking of the paying customer. Whilst it would have been disappointing, I think most people would have been more understanding if they had done that. 15. If you wnat the top riders to consider the UK then the structure has to be two meetings a week in April (one home, one away) and then one meeting a week once Sweden gets started. I dont think it needs to be on a set day, its the volume of fixtures that stops them. Leicester's problem isnt money, its racing on a saturday when Poland is on a sunday. Polish clubs dont want their star assets flying in on a red eye flight on sunday morning, quite rightly given the money they (contractually at least) should get paid for racing there. EL teams should invest in track covers to reduce the number of rain offs, again a reason why top stars are wary of coming over. I think the points limit should be left where it is for a period of years so everyone knows where they stand and can start to plan over a number of years, hopefully with an increasing nucleus of UK riders. Then the foreign stars are less critical anyway to the success of the league.
  16. i believe you can transfer from bends 1 and 2 onto the back straight.
  17. In these days of doom and gloom, we have a gala opening meeting, WSL, Speedway World Cup, British Final and the Elite League to look forward to.... Happy days
  18. What a strange situation, I guess it's certain technicalities that have led the refusing of granting licences go most of these clubs, as it seems less than 10 actually have a licence to run next season?
  19. is it right that Wroclaw have been refused a licence so far for next season?
  20. Leicester are the ones currently paying the price for the last decade where promoters in general have not looked to build an asset base of British riders who can compete at the highest level. Still happening today sadly, it is amazing to look at the current GB team manager who has a total Australian line up in his team. Now that the top guys just want to race Sweden, Poland and GP/SEC, filling spare dates with the odd Danish or Czech match, we are reaping what we sowed. Sad really, but when you look at PL teams, they are just filled with european journeymen too....
  21. The stadium will be expensive to run, mundoubtedly, but won't just be used 14 nights a year for speedway. The grandstand facilities will be available for use most days of the week for corporate events, and the stadium will be rented out for concerts on selected days in the summer, especially as it fills a gap between the Apollo which holds about 2,000 and the next music venue the Arena, which holds 17,000. Stadium rentals for these events can be up to £30k per day. One three day event could net the stadium over £100k with revenue shares on food, etc. Running a stadium like this won't be easy, but there are a number of stadium operating experts who will help too. I like the look of our team this year, hopefully 5 British lads, and a strong heat leader trio. One of the Worrals at reserve should also give us strong point scoring from that position.
  22. I do chuckle at the fact we now think the points limit is too high!! Never thought I would ever read that on this forum
