  1. Didn't know that Chris had died in 2002! he was a great underated vital cog in the Hyde road outfit, Ivan Mauger was always my personal favorite but Chris,Soren Sjosten ( also no longer with us )Alan Wilkinson and Eric Broadbelt and were never far behind in my top 5 Aces..............Peter Collins and Chris Morton were obvious fan favorites but the 4 previously mentioned were just as important in my book.
  2. Surely the time is not far off before another Polish speedway rider wins the Speedway world title...........I would of liked it to be Tomasz Gollob but fear it is too late for him now to follow in the footsteps of Jerzy Szczakiel ( who unfortunately was regarded as a homer when he won it in 73), I recall the likes of Zenon Plech,Pawel Waloszek,Edward Jancarz, who would all have been regarded as worthy winners, the young Poles who have come through theses last 2 years must beb in with a realistic chance of winning.
  3. I bought the dvd and have watched it a few times, the commentators caught off camera piece is excellent but I am disappointed to learn that it was recorded afterwards,I listened to the commentary on the actual final race and it sounds the same to me! Overall it is well worth the money, is there going to be a release of the World cup final from Poland?
  4. I have noticed that whereas in the original individual racing format prior to the grand prix all heats at all qualifying meetings were exactly the same; HEAT 1...1,2.3,4. HEAT 2...5,7,6,8. HEAT 3...10,11,9,12 HEAT 4...15,14,16,13 ETC The Grand Prix format seems to change at every meeting can anyone tell me why this is? You have to excuse my ignorance as I have only just recently returned to following Speedway after a large gap.
  5. July 15th 1970 Belle vue v Halifax 51-27 to the Aces, I was used to going to football but had some mates who regularly went to speedway,so one wednesday night I tagged along and by about heat 2 I was hooked, watching speedway was brilliant and for the next 8 years or so I not only never missed a home meeting but joined the supporters club and travelled all over Britain, British league matches, individual meetings the lot, 3 world finals 72,75,78.Favorite other tracks were: Halifax,Sheffield,Swindon,Coventry,Wolverhampton,Cradley.
  6. Steve, no way am I unsure of what I believe, what I mean is that Carters exclusion was a nonsense, Kittelssen should have given Kenny the benefit of doubt and if he was afraid of kicking out Penhall then it should have been all four back in the race.
  7. Just watched the dvd of the 82 world final from los angeles and having seen from all available angles; heat 14 Penhall v Carter was a travisty of justice, coming out of the 2nd bend Penhall in my opinion took out Carter's front wheel with his own rear and caused Kenny Carter to crash,Kittelssen was either blind,on something or corrupt to exclude Carter.......at least it should have been either Penhall excluded or all four riders in a restart, Kenny Carter was right he was robbed.
  8. taking into account the riders of today as well as those from days gone by which 16 ( using the old individual championship format ) riders would you love to see in a fantasy meeting? mine: 1 MAUGER 2 OLSEN 3 FUNDIN 4 RICKARDSSON 5 COLLINS 6 BRIGGS 7 CRAVEN 8 NIELSEN 9 PENHALL 10 CARTER 11 GUNDERSEN 12 MICHANEK 13 GOLLOB 14 MOORE 15 JANSSON 16 CRUMP (J)
  9. which of the above are the better value for money magazine? I have only viewed them on line.
  10. As I have commented on a different thread the book in my opinion is brilliant, unputdownable, memory reviving and it is one of the few books that you could read over and over again,Kenny Carter and Bruce Penhall are two great riders that you could not talk about one without mentioning the other, they were both a great loss to speedway the only difference was that when Bruce retired he did not cause harm to anyone else when Kenny Carter finished speedway he carried out a selfish act that was the sort of thing he was renowned for on the track.
  11. Watching the likes of the Boocock's, Reg Wilson,Airey,Ray Wilson,Briggo,Ole,Sjosten,Collins,Mauger,Michanek,Jessup,Ashby et al, this must have been the sumit of Speedway heaven, I just feel privilaged to have watched so many great riders both at Hyde road and at away meetings up and down the country.
