  1. Well Said, there has to be entertaiment value to attract the fans and surely for the young guys their sights are set on beating the old hands to gauge their progession.Promoters always seem to want the best of both worlds these days regarding 3rd tier racing.Should not pay over the odds but there has to be a balance of youth and experiance.
  2. Near enough for me 50 years on
  3. Think he was an Australian, don't know if still around.
  4. Brian Mckeown also rings a bell.Possibly Kev Torpie before he came to Monarchs.
  5. I remember him riding for Middlesboro at Old Meadowbank early 60's.Eric Boothroyd was in that team if my memory is still OK.
  6. Yer up to late, Johnno announced his retirement more than a week ago
  7. I sincerly hope Peterborough do run speedway next year, speedway at the Showground has to be kept going to save another venue for closure and lost to the sport.
  8. Mainly because the BSPA say so.Its their ball and they like to say who can play with them.
  9. To lose speedway at the Showground would be criminal some fantastic speedway over the years on that track,The BSPA should be ashamed if they have turned down an application from Peterborough to go PL.Sad state of affairs IMO
  10. If Plymouth meet the standards set out for the PL it is a disgrace they are not allowed to move up.Speedway is in a total shambles these days,it is no wonder fans are turning their back on the sport it just cannot be taken seriously the way it is run.
  11. The point being there is not enough people coming through the turnstile, which you acknowledge.
  12. You are right in that respect, Buster's " other interests" will always come in for critisism in some quarters if the Stars are not successful but thats life.
  13. I think there are a few Promoters struggling to pay the "going rate " which tells us some thing that we already know Certain riders are overpayed IMO given the economic climate.I think some fans are voting "with their feet " for that very reason.Machin has been saying this for years about the "senior riders" and I for one tend to agree with him.
  14. Congratulation on a well deserved success,A few teams should take a leaf out or your book regarding how to develope and run a team in the National League in the spirit it was set up for(not paying over the odd's for riders who's career is on the way down).Wish you every success in the future.
  15. Cheers, should have got it right I was there every week for the 2 seasons.Good racing Reider Eide was the "King"
  16. In the book "history of the speedway Hoskins "Ian states that he had never ridden speedway before his debut at Edinburgh. He also states that he signed for Poole in 1966 and retired at the end of the season, which is a load of nonsense. He rode for Hoskins at Coabridge in 1968!!!!!!!!!!.He also rode for Exeter and possibly Wembley after that.
  17. Great stuff, makes you wishI had kept a diary what memories. PS Sounds like we stayed in the same B&B
  18. Regarding the protest,There was an extra race but the same 2riders that were in the original final were 1st and 2nd Hunter & Gilbertson.Ironicaly Hunter's e/f when leading final might not have occurred but for his extra race. But that is conjecture and the records show Mauger was the Champ.
  19. Jimmy Squibb was involved too if I remember correctly. Those were the days EH!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Your are correct regarding the 1964 programme picture, what I remember about it was the picture was the riders going out for the original final before the protest.Hunter and Gilbertson helmet colours were different in the actual final.(there is a a piece of useless information, but would be a good Quiz question ).White & Y/B were swopped round in final.Am I right with thie assumption?
  21. Think you are mixing up the years in 1963 there was the famous "sit in" when the was confusion who should be in final.George Hunter and Ross Gilbertson were 1st and 2nd in run-off ironically they were the ones in the original final, before the protest .George Hunter e/f in in lead in final which was won by Mauger with Kitchen 2nd..I was there in 1963 but might not be 100% with the facts (sure someone will correct me )Wayne was runner up in 1962 (I think). The reason I remember this is it was the year Peter Craven was killed at Edinburgh a few weeks earlier and George Hunter had been involved in the accident, when his engine had seized .
  22. GREAT entertainer and worthy champion. Some of his passes over the years have been unbelievable and the reason you go to watch speedway.
  23. Well done Tomasz fully deserved Title on of the best entertainers on a speedway bike .Title in the bag and still focussed on the win on the night. To hear Pearson and Tatum comments about him taking chances with title in the bag is pitiful,Gollob never short -changes the fans.Well done Chris Harris who once again proves if you give him a decent racetrack he can compete with the best.Hans does not have much luck these days in gp's but him and AJ seem to be "over the hill" in regards title contenders.
