British Speedway Promoters Meeting
Fromafar replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Is he the man for the job then ,should be looking elsewhere for the benefit of the Sport .Imo Live TV coverage in itself is not concern they are only thinking of the large sum of Sky money he can pocket for himself . -

your entitled to your opinion but surely he knows that British Speedway needs riders signed up for next season before they commit themselves to other Countries and were are left with the dregs. He should have been negotiating with Sky long before now regarding their intentions instead of being fobbed off with the excuse that contract doesn't end until the end of the year. They need to take lessons from other Sports. A lot of people seem to obsessed about TV MONEY but in reality it should just be a bonus for the Sport if the sport was run properly. -

I find it incredible that Terry Russell finds it unfortunate that Final decisions regarding next season have to be made this weekend,is he in the real world!!! World Speedway doesn't revolve around HIS negotiations with Sky.What a plonker with self interest the only thing that seems to concern him. -
the current state that speedway is in we can only assume that Ipswich dropped to the PL in an attempt to lose less money than if they were EL.Possibly Sky money the only thing keeping EL afloat until now.Not long now before all is revealed regarding League structures.

IMO the majority of speedway clubs have been taken over by business men/speedway supporter who genuinely have the sport at heart, but unfortunately when it comes to running the club some find themselves out of there depths some do not like outsiders giving advice because it is club and their money behind the venture others have too any people in the consortium who all want do it their way. I think when it comes to Sponsers again some clubs invite small local business men to get involved then it becomes a vicious circle because a lot of Sponsers of this nature want a say in how the club is run which in some cases is not ideal.IMO Sponsers should support their local club for the benefits that it has on their business and leave the Promoter to run the club. I think you need to be a very rich person if you want to invest in a speedway club.Attracting a National Company as a major Sponsers is the Ideal situation who do it as a business venture and not self interest. It is interesting that one of the most successful Promotions (Poole) have always had Decent Sponsers but Matt Ford has always been the Main Man.

Speedway At The Crossroads
Fromafar replied to 2ndbendbeerhut's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
There's nothing wrong with Team Racing if you are watching YOUR team every week not Guest riders,Rider replacement and even reserve replacements how you you expect fans to get interested in THEIR team. They need to introduce a Squad system that covers the teams and not having every rider riding for every team in the league it makes a mockery of the team ethic. -
neither would Ren.

great gesture from the man ,but I'm afraid a rather silly comment from you IMO. -
got mine as usual yesterday (live in Scotland)
-
that is a good question no point in AGM's if all the information is not available ,probably come up with some contingency plan if that is the case
-
Probably introduce a new helmet cover colour as the major change ,if previous AGM's are anything to go by.
-
Have to agree on both points.
-
That is the problem,do these riders take a wage cut or move abroad ,trouble is the EL second strings and foreigners probably not good enough to find teams on the Continent on a regular basis to make it pay.Nobody seems to know just how much the so called Elite League manages to survive given the tales woe that comes out from certain Clubs every year yet nothing seems to change and they run the next season.Who's telling Porkies.
-
Howe was a class act at PL level but in recent seasons seems injury prone and seems to want to further his long track career where he has picked up his recent injuries, not sure if he would be worth the gamble given his best years are probably behind him.
-
Agree, but the question is will the Pl fall for it again.(I think it was National league in them days, but same thing)
-
Heard that Kozza broke his collarbone in Aus recently
-
Carr has to be given a chance on a 3pt average, gives a lot of scope regarding second strings and other reserve, surely he impressed enough with Monarchs at the end of season to show he has talent don't think he will be an overnight success but he has time on his side think his finances might hold him back the way people are talking but if he has a Professional approach and gives it 100% that is all you can ask. Too many young riders think they have made when they get aTeam place and get a rude awakening when things go wrong.
-
That is more likely if they can persuade enough PL TEAMS to move up.Having been round most of the Northern tracks last season the crowd levels suggest it would be a bit of a gamble especially if a couple of Northern Teams made the jump and took away some of the Northern "local" derbies which does seem to attract travelling support.
-
If the GP men and the other no1's were missing then one big league might be the way to go.Doubt it will happen though.Difficult times for the sport IMO.I Personaly don't think many PL promoters would relish moving up.We shall see though.
-
Possibly ,but the standard of rider it will attract means it will be an Elite League in name only. Its only bailing out a failed regime IMO.Will the admission prices be reduced to match the grade of product on offer.
-
Another con job by EL PROMOTERS trying to save their necks just like the early 90's. It certainly won't be paying EL pay rates that have been on offer in recent seasons if rumours prove correct.Dont see any PL TEAMS with crowds to support moving up.Interesting though.

While I agree regarding season just past. The problem is that if you have a good Cup run AND finish inthe top 6 you will need another 5 /6 weeks of Saturdays the complete the season. Also there seems to be a consensus that the season runs far too late into October and the weather and track conditions deteriorate. So unless there is a restructure of the Leagues you could still have problems regarding fixtures in a shortened season.
-
We have to sign riders that commit themselves to the club.Ricky was a good example before his injury. To many just riding round try to top up their earnings.
-
while I would like to see Kozza back next year I have a feeling he will move on.
-
Think Claus Vissing would be a good shout, can't see him at Armadale next season and has a decent average, rides Shielfield well.
