  2. Exactly Sotonian, the 3 qualifiers are there on merit. Why don't they increase it to 7 qualifiers in future and only have one wild card. With the bottom 8 in the GP Series going into the challenge. Then we can forget the wild card lottery which is, in my opinion entry via the back door.
  3. Agree completely with that Sandie. He was watching intently last night just in front of us on the 4th bend & his body language told me that he would have loved to be out there mixing it. However your post is bang on and he needs to concentrate on his current racing commitments and his family right now for obvious reasons. But his time will no doubt come in the not too distant future
  4. Yeah won't forget last night in a hurry!! Now trying to convince my wife to let the lad and I go to Poland next season, keeping everything crossed. Fancy that new stadium in Torun first well you can always dream
  5. They are just magic, are they not?? Have to agree with you about those flags - awesome
  6. Been too Cardiff on 7 occasions now, the last time took my Dad who is 79yrs old and got some expensive seats, on the other times paid less than half of that. Have to agree with you about the atmosphere being great but apart from twice the racing was very poor on a track which rutted terribly and was clearly a danger to all the riders who took part. I agree it adds to the drama but at what cost to the injured riders? The day out at Cardiff is great and to spend a weekend with my speedway buddies is also great. So it's much more of a package than just a speedway meeting. Regardless of what others may say my son & I had a good time last night and we both felt that we got value for money. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. One thing I will say is this - Long Live Speedway
  7. Shale is a fine-grained, clastic sedimentary rock composed of flakes of clay minerals and tiny fragments of other minerals, especially quartz and calcite. The ratio of clay to other minerals is variable. Shale is characterized by thin laminae or parallel layering or bedding less than one centimeter in thickness. Contrary to the views of Ole Olsen, when this material is laid in abundance and nurtured on a speedway track it produces INCREDIBLE RACING
  8. My lad and I thoroughly enjoyed last nights action & it was great to see it in front of a bumper crowd too!! Well worth the money as well in my opinion. Better to pay £25 to see speedway on a decent racetrack than £60 each at Cardiff to watch highly skilled riders battling with an almost unrideable track. The atmosphere on the 4th bend was great, which was down to the incredible Polish contingent with their flags and banners, who urged their riders on all night long and were obviously overjoyed to see Jarek qualify for the GP series again. Important Note - we must both go on a speedway pilgrimage to Poland to take in as many meetings as possible. Reason speedway & passion sure go together It was a night of high drama with some dreadful high speed crashes particularly the one involving Pepe, Chris & Freddie. How they all got up and walked away from that one I will never know. Some great on track action provided a thoroughly enjoyable evening and it could have gone on all night long for me. It was incredible to see the utter amazement on Zorro's face when he realized what he had achieved. Surely the stuff that speedway dreams are made of Congratulations to him on his well deserved victory and also congratulations to Chris Holder & Jarek Hampel. I wish them all well in next years GP Series as they have qualified in the right way, by doing it on the track!! I woke up this morning with the chant- Jarek Hampel, Jarek ringing in my ears. As they said in an old song - "oh what a night!"
  9. Looking forward to making the trip to Brandon tomorrow, should be a cracker of a meeting. Good lineup, can't wait
  10. Try this one but it's in Danish - http://www.justin.tv/sjip
  11. Yet another absolute corker from Bydgoszcz. Thoroughly enjoyed that!!
  12. Awesome performance from Jason tonight, a huge well done. Cometh the hour cometh the man!!!
  13. For me it would have to be Hyde Road closely followed by Wembley for a world final and The Shay at Halifax
  14. Really interesting thread this one. Sadly I was too young to see "Atomic Tommy" race but have listened to my parents waxing lyrical about his races with their hero Jack Young in packed stadiums racing wheel to wheel and the crowd roaring their men on to victory. Boy that must have been some sight to see!!! Saw Ken McKinlay race in the twilight of his career when he rode for West Ham in the late sixties and he could still produce the goods even then. So for me these two guys must be right up there at the top of the list. I was brought up watching Scottish Riders like George Hunter, Bert Harkins, Jimmy McMillan, the Templeton Brothers, Brian Collins, Bobby Beaton and the like, all of whom are deserving of top 20 places.Have to say I was surprised not to see Kenny McKinna in the top 10 as he was always a spectacular committed racer. Have thoroughly enjoyed this thread - thanks for the memories
  15. Congratulations to Jason on a good victory
  16. Well done to Emil, what a talent for one so young and also well done to Freddie. looks like we are in for an interesting series.
  17. Been to Stoke, Scunthorpe & Workington this season saw some marvellous speedway. Happy to stand and watch and sit on the terracing between races if need be. Long live Speedway
  18. I remember two brothers involved in a punch up. It was either 1968 or 1969 at Coatbridge in a Monarchs v Tigers clash. Dougie & Willie Templeton were on opposing sides and they had a coming together during the race and they ended up on the football pitch and continued the afters there. I was 11 or 12 at the time.I also remember watching it again on scotsport on the Sunday. Aah those were the days.
  19. Congrats to Nicki on being World Champion, Congrats to Mr Gollob on winning GP and Super Prix!!!
