Don’t know if you saw this bit. It is great news hopefully the support returns and they all pull it off 🐯steering club committee post🐯 Things are moving at west Row with a ‘steering committee’ discussing plans over the last few months and the big news is that a member of that committee has been to Aldershot and visited the headquarters of Spedeworth stock cars and had a meeting with the Managing Director Mr Deane Woods. The committee member reported that Mr Woods could not be more helpful and that there is a deal on the table for the fen tigers to race again this season. A spokesman said, ‘we will be looking for a complete community effort with everyone pulling together if we are going to pull this off, and we want to enter the NDL national trophy along with a couple of challenges with other NDL teams as we do not want to run before we can walk and an approach about entering a national competition has been made to the relevant authorities. All will be revealed at a public meeting in the stadium bar on Sunday 26th of January starting at 3.pm although please note the bar will not be open, however you are free to bring your own food and drink The spokesperson went on to say “I cannot tell you how excited we are by this turn of events as most people were contemplating the end of the fen tigers, and I sincerely hope this excitement is reflected amongst the Mildenhall speedway supporters” Regards, the steering committee. Interesting signing wondering how he will go around Armadale. The Championship is looking very competetive next season with a fair number of new faces freshening things up nicely.2 points

Can't imagine why there would be any reason not to let them in to the NT, make it 6 teams, another meeting? As long as Mildenhall can build a team quick enough to the same limits etc as the other teams can't think it would be a problem, definitely don't want a fiddle of the rules to let them in.2 points

So he was disappointed a rider changed his mind and then he lets a rider go who he had told had a team place ? if true, it works both ways….2 points

The legendary Polish former National speedway team coach, Marek Cieslak, commented in sportowefakty.pl results of Poland’s sport Personality 2024 plebiscite announced yesterday. When mentioning fifth placed achieved by the 5-times world champion, Bartosz Zmarzlik, and problems with speedway, Marek Cieslak said this: It is a complex issue. We need the successes of our national teams, which we do not have. We have achieved the best league in the world, which has great viewership. The problem is that the Grand Prix series cannot keep up with this at all, and it is folding down. This is visible, for example, in the locations. There are no new ones, and in addition, large stadiums are slowly disappearing. The FIM and the promoter Discovery are responsible for this. In addition, the best riders in the world do not ride in the series. The recent nominations for wild cards and their translation into geographical terms are a joke. All this means that the Grand Prix arouses interest in fewer and fewer countries. I have the impression that even here (i.e. in Poland) it does not generate the same emotions as it used to. If it were, the successes and the phenomenon of Zmarzlik would have a much greater echo in the country. Do you think that it is time for Artiom Łaguta and Emil Sajfutdinov to return to the series? Initially I was against them, but now I think they should be in the series. Zmarzlik would also benefit from the presence of Artiom Łaguta or Emil Sayfutdinov. I have no doubt that he would still win, but then his successes, this rivalry with the Russians would arouse much more emotions. In this way, the audience would be larger. Please remember what rivals Tomasz Gollob had. He had to compete with Tony Rickardsson, Greg Hancock, Billy Hamill, Jason Crump, Mark Loram, Hans Nielsen, Leigh Adams, Ryan Sullivan and many other great stars. Each of them had papers for the title. Now the series lacks such figures.1 point

Newport in 77? Believe they were the called the Dragons, the Newport promotion went across after Somerton Park closed and took a few riders over. Way before my time but understand fans didn't travel as well as expected I could have got that wrong but that was my understanding from what my old man had told me.1 point

I have spoken about this before but speedway needs to consider becoming an amateur charity like sport and it would then get tracks built like althletics, bmx, cycling etc built for free as part of projects like this commonwealth games left over money, with good accountants riders could still earn a living from the sport,we have to start thinking out the box, at the moment from the very top we have a shoddy at best working organisation running the sport, there should be a go to manual/protocol for any new potential promotion to turn to for when they meet professional planners who have questions they need answering, there isn’t one, how amateurish is that ? The bspl/scb don’t answer calls or emails and when you finally get a reply they don’t have answers like what’s the decibel reading at 150yards from the bikes, these are questions planners ask and the sport doesn’t have them, there is no go to person and quite frankly it’s pathetic for what is supposed to be a professional sport and this is why you get residents turning up a planning meetings saying “I’m not having hells angels riding up and down my road all hours of the day” we know it’s not like that but people outside the sport don’t and this is why there should be go to protocol for these planning meetings1 point

Monarchs have had two Poles in the past that I recall Darek Fliegert 1992 ( Powderhall ) and Michal Rajkowski in 2009 ( Armadale ). Fliegert had his moments as I recall but was a bit up and down overall. Rajkowski was an all action rider who had a run of good scores but don't think he finished the season due to injury, but not certain of that. UK tracks were a bit of a shock to both I think.1 point

I believe Worky only expressed an interest and to give it due consideration. If someone else jumps the gun and goes to press then perhaps they should hold their hand up and say so. Never ASSUME because it can make an ASS out of U and ME.1 point

More Likely to be murder Polis around the dump 🤣. Maybe he can book in a few stag do's for Friday nights...1 point

Whats Jack Smith's average out of interest? As no doubt will need a replacement for Roynon after the first meeting1 point

I don't think that would be the case anyway. If I was a fan of Poole (retch) or any other second division side there would be at least one rider in every Prem team I'd want to see at my track.1 point

Probably the best description for it. Bit of a loose cannon as a character. Good pedigree in Poland and If he can perform close to that then he’ll probably put a point on that average, but with a lot of Poles they do struggle over here so it’s a risk. However good to see us trying something a bit different this year for a change. Freshen up which was much needed.1 point

Speedway GB is an independent business. The BSPL sold the ‘rights’ to it around 2018 as they needed to save costs so they will be self sufficient.1 point

With there being 6 NL teams & only 5 NT teams, you'd think there's no reason not to allow Mildenhall to join in?1 point

Yes I got the impression Artem Laguta enjoyed his time at Peterborough, as did Vadim Tarasenko who would of probably also stayed on.1 point

Why was the first leg of the semi finals for the BSN trophy run at the end of August with the final completed in October? This is the start of season competition and teams held the competition up. Tell teams you are racing before a certain date or you are thrown out the competition.1 point

What about having a competition running through the season, called Riding-Order Bingo? Supporters, and not just KL fans, are given the chance to submit their prediction of the Stars 1-5 riding order ahead of each match for a £1 stake, with the winners sharing 75% of the total staked, and the other 25% going to the club?1 point

For a Leicester point of view, based on his Championship average I'd have looked towards Joe T again. Maybe he'll get another chance of Hagon doesn't improve?1 point

Exactly ! Workington never said they were in ! The BSPL press release ( which Godfrey is head of ) said they were and now blames them for their hesitation when they never ever said they were in having been told , falsely, that other teams would be joining including a certain club in the north. What you read between the lines is your issue, Workington have never said anything so don't insinuate that its their fault.1 point

A decent 3rd place for Jan Kvech at Gillman today. Meeting won by Jack Holder, with his brother Chris 2nd. Decent field with the likes of Fricke, Lidsay, Brennan & Masters also riding in the meeting.1 point

I love the bit where he picks up so much speed going into the bend that you hear the crowd let out a gasp.1 point

Not rained off, but it was very nearly cancelled/abandoned a few years back due to track conditions. Your final comment succinctly hits the nail on the head though.1 point
-
It's probably reached a natural end, but the way it's been dealt with is abysmal. I'm sure the usual suspect will be along soon to chastise those who've booked non-refundable accommodation, but that was a big attraction of Cardiff: it would never be rained off. Whatever your thoughts are of the whole event, there are now unhappy speedway fans who have lost money on hotels, and maybe some who won't bother as much with speedway. WBD have been an unmitigated disaster.1 point
-
WBD managed to half the crowd from the moment they took over and then did pretty much nothing in the way of promotion to tempt those people back. Like @flagrag said they need to rent the stadium for a period of time to put the track in and that won't come cheap and then all of a sudden the numbers stop adding up. This time the decision truly has been made for "commercial reasons" but you can't help but think that if IMG were still the rights holders we'd all be off to Cardiff again next summer.1 point

Not seen it advertised by the club yet, but seen on Niels Instagram that his testimonial will be the season opener at Lynn on 16/03 (3pm start). Well deserved for a Stars legend. Hopefully the weather is kind and I imagine he’ll assemble a good field considering his standing in the sport. Sure they will be plenty of GP boys looking for track time at the start of the season.1 point

Agree with a lot of that. Shouldn't have been on the calendar. BUT...what I strongly suspect is that organisers have to get the calendar out early and Cardiff was dependent upon funding from Welsh Govt. I expect that has been pulled, after all, if it's not attracting numbers and doing good business, then why would you invest tax payer money in it? Once that went, it's not viable. As for Poland, well, that's the reality of where the sport is. It's the only lucrative market for speedway on the planet. He who pays the piper calls the tune. Let's not forget there was a time when the World Final was held in the UK every year and riders qualified for that direct from the British Final. Same situation, different country. I think the best way to process this is to be grateful for the 20 odd years we had at Cardiff. Few of us imagined speedway ever getting back into a major UK stadium after Wembley. It did and it was a joyful experience - particularly 2007.1 point

Really pleased with the way Lynn have gone about their business for 2025 season. Feels the club is more on front foot. Hoping for good season and one that is injury free (for all). Team chosen and switch to Monday race night should eliminate all that Polish nonsense suffered in campaign just gone. Live too far away to buy season ticket but its good value.1 point

It's funny how much Nigel Pearson was criticized for his commentary style when he was with us, and is now praised so much since his sad passing. Food for thought1 point
-
Not under normal circumstances but this is hardly normal Poole need 2pointer unless they make another change and it's only short term where if they do well there average goes up and it makes it more difficult for another team to fit them in and if he doesn't do well no one will want them anyway so it definitely not good position to put themselves in but does give them more negotiating power for for a better deal it's not rocket science!0 points
