  1. Absolute nonsense. This is a prime example of somebody having read a few comments on a forum and has judged Boughen because of it. Have you ever seen him actually race live? I've said multiple times on this forum, it's not a traffic thing. He lifts off on the first lap on occasion (most noticeable at the start/first bend), but then gets going for the rest of the race and is quick. No idea why he does it, but he does. It's not really held back his progression (other than towards the end of this season), so let's see what he does next year before writing him off. Perfect example that 1) he lifts off on the first lap, but 2) he's not afraid to mix it in traffic right here...

  2. I have noticed Ashton shutting off at times when in traffic, but it is not all the time, seems to be more when on inside gate, however in Glasgow's final match with Oxford he was mixing it and doing a bomber pass on the outside, he scored 12 from 4 rides, was excluded in his first for returning to pits. He is only 17 , I am quite sure he will be a top rider some day, his gating skills and speed are remarkable for his limited experience. I am sure if Bomber is his mentor then he will learn how to mix it without being injured.

  5. Anders is a million miles ahead of Thompson. Why are they even being compared in the first place as they're at different stages of their careers. British Speedway (Premiership or Championship) is not the yard stick. The fact Rowe is learning in Poland's U24E is far more progressive than anything served up here. In 2 years Thompson could be better, but right now, not a chance.

  6. The losing interest part has long gone for many. The challenge to attract new supporters is a major task with such a sporadic fixture list and lack of continuity for promotions. Lets see what comes out of the AGM , not holding much hope for anything positive though.

  7. I remember a post on here, around 2 years ago, from Ashton/someone asking for somewhere where he can try speedway. Pretty sure he hadn't sat on a speedway bike then. He has come a long way since, and might well read the forum. We have seen him in the first bend. He will know what is happening, and will be working towards eradicating it.. I don't think posts like this will help imho. He has been British No.1, and World No.8 at MX, with 20 or more rider all aiming for the first corner at once..Not speedway, i know. So he has something about him.He has the backing, so lets see where he is at the end of next season.

  8. Dont think he shut off when he beat Lawson in play off final or cup final. He will be a top rider one day, he has the speed.

  9. What a crap attempt at a joke.

  10. Not all about money though. Is in most cases granted, but some riders will take a lower offer if they feel a move elsewhere benefits their careers. Not saying that is the case here mind you.

  11. Yeah, I'm sure he would laugh and laugh if he read that. There's one plonker, and it's not me. You're a grown man - almost a pensioner apparently - grow up!

  13. Other way around. Ipswich are one of the higher payers. Rew is on a good deal, and he's happy to stay. This time last year people thought Adam Ellis was off to Belle Vue, (so many people saying he wanted to join his mate Bewley) but BV were never interested in bidding against Ipswich. I expected Ellis to be moved on this year, but I keep being told Danny King is the one to go from Ippo.

  15. Not picking on him? You posted a picture of a tricycle and said he need to practice on that!

  16. We know that because we see that. What we don't know (we kind of do) is the adverse effect on crowds throughout the year because the johnny come lately glory hunters (ahem @mikebv 😉😜😂) come out of the woodwork at pay off time. They've given many other matches a miss during the season because it doesn't really matter if they win or not on any given night.

  17. Personally, I would prefer 2H 2A in the Championship - without the BSN Series, and without the play-offs/grand final. Can't we just have a straightforward league competition (and the KO Cup)?

  18. What's serious, is that you are having a pop at a young rider who has done remarkably well 2 years after first sitting on a speedway bike.

  19. Thompson was only in the main body because Rew sat on an average of 4.00 for most of the season! Rowe had to get his average over 5.00 before he moved out of reserve... Bit of a difference

  20. Still this by all accounts. It’s an interesting team if nothing else. Has obvious weaknesses, but obvious strengths also.
    1 point
  21. Of course it is. It’s where they can both be compared fairly because both ride in the same league. Rowe quite clearly isn’t “a million miles ahead of Thompson” in any way shape or form.

  22. Dan Thompson didn’t even feature in the championship in 2023 bar two meetings for Birmingham averaging 3.50. 2024, 18 meetings, 7.88. I’d say that’s even greater progression. “By far” LOL. Calm down. “By a mile” LOL. take off your blinkered Lynn spectacles. Agree. What they seem to be ignoring is Dan Thompson this year spent most of this season in the main body of the side, (rising star I might add), Rowe sat in his comfy number 7 berth all year bar the last meeting or two at the end of the season. 0.72 between them. Thompson is also two years younger than Rowe so I’m not sure about the “highest ceiling” either or what that’s based on. Nobody can predict who has a higher ceiling, some riders progress some don’t so it’s all guesswork. The current stats though are there for all to see.

  23. This is a really interesting video. If you watch closely it really looks like he is rolling off the throttle on most entries to the corner and putting power on quickly afterwards to enter the corner and get the back end out which he has obvious speed with. Maybe its confidence, maybe not wanting to get involved but looks occasionally like he has a wrong approach to enter corners. If the latter, this can be coached out of him and as have I and many have pointed out, fabulous talent.

  24. Early season would be the time to run individual events... Pre Poland and Sweden.. "Well paid" practice and engine testing for the top riders before the "serious stuff" in Poland kicks in.. The first two or three weeks of the season... You would only need three or four "top riders" at each event on the Championship tracks I would suggest . Do a 12 rider field to help with costs, do some handicap racing to even up the meeting (like Wolves used to do with the Olympique) and see if a few "big names" can start your season with a bit of a bang.. Most Championship clubs are actually in "small" towns, even those with big city names, so advertising locally wouldn't cost the earth either, and most in these towns will have heard of Speedway I would think... A bit of hype in the marketing and you may get a decent start to the season, with something to advertise your club off the back of..

  28. Certainly helped that the playoff final was between the team best supported teams though. Two clubs who regularly get close to 2,000 per league meeting, let alone a playoff final between the two of them.

  29. So has he gone backwards since starting his racing career two years ago?

  30. To convert, basically you have to move the sump/oil pick up so as it’s on the bottom when the engine is upright and the oil pipe (internal or external depending on engine) is above the center of the main shaft also the flywheels have to be rebalanced, unfortunately quite a few that were converted to laydown had the sump chopped off and welded up and a new one was machined further round the cases so it’s not really possible to convert them back, the first laydown GMs had both upright and laydown sumps on so easy to convert either way

  32. Admittedly my involvement with motorbike engines has been largely with MotoGP power units where electrics and tyre development is way ahead (and necessary) of speedway units although the basic engineering concept still applies to both, namely, torque is required to get the bike moving and revs (horse power) needed to maintain the delivery of power. Speedway engine builders will be aware of this and will always be faced with juggling to balance these two factors which are not mutually exclusive to one another & hence engines can be built/adjusted to varying degrees of torque & HP for different types of track/circuit The lower center of gravity of the lay down machines v the uprights would them easier to lean over and create an easier break of the tyre/surface and thus turn quickly if and when required although most probably no easier to race on over four laps - just different.

  34. 1. Fricke - 9.14 2. Howarth - 5.06 3. Tarasenko - 6.77 4. Becker - 6.57 5. Wozniak - 7.50 (ass) 6. Sedgmen - 4.79 RS. Hagon Total - 39.83 This is best Leicester team I can come up with that is somewhat realistic given Wozniak used to ride for the club and that Tarasenko had an excellent debut for Lynn there this season just gone. Does mean that Dickson would have to go against his approach of signing UK based riders, but he may have too this coming season

  35. The strongest 1-7 I could come up with using realistic riders only and turning a blind eye to the Douglas to Brum rumours would be this. 1. Fricke, 2. Howarth, 3. Masters, 4. Becker, 5. Douglas, 6. C. Cook & 7. Hagon (RS) = 39.93 If Leicester want a big hitter then they'll have to be sitting ducks at reserve because Hagon needs a strong No.6 to partner him at reserve considering how much he struggled as RS.

  38. Any follower of speedway that thinks the track is conducive to good racing is either bias-deluded-or needs to go to specsavers. It was prepared well for a couple of meetings, but that's not good value for money.

  39. I'm not going to comment on your views of Boughen and Coles. One thing I can say is that Jack Smith gave 100% for Glasgow and suggesting that if Boughen continues to perform the way he has done recently he would end up like Jack is out of order.

  40. The fans should get together and raise funds for a table toppers trophy. If enough fans cared each year they could raise enough for a monetary bonus for the club too.

  41. The Oxford situation would be a fair point of they have topped the league and then been understrength in the play-offs. As it stands I don't feel for a team that finished 2nd in the league being weakened in the play-offs. Even if they were top I still wouldn't feel for them as they voted for the play-offs, so know there's always a risk it'll hurt your team. Anyway if I was in charge top of the league would be Champs, no need for play-offs. Feel the same about the SON, why have an extra 2 races, when there's a winner after 21 heats? Would like the GPs if they got rid of the awful scoring system / got rid off or limited the wild cards.

  42. Should leave it at 40 and maybe have an average for the top 3 that you cannot go over. 25? Leaving 15 for the other three, plus the RS..? Maybe that would share the HL's around a bit more fairly? Which is probably the one major difference between those with success and those without..

  44. Leaving aside whether this actually trancends into a return of the Hammers and the whys and why nots, if it were to happen with half decent facilities, it has the potential to be a very well supported club and likely far better supported than previously i would think. Why i say this is it will be the only club in the south east . Since closure at Lakeside Rye , Eastbourne and Kent have gone. i know Iwade are operating as Kent but with Lakeside operating in Premier or Championship fans likely to go there instead. When Rye was Saturdays a few years ago in Premier they were getting decent crowds, c 1,500 - 2,000, and the people i spoke to there were coming from far and wide. At that time there were 3 other tracks in the south. I would be very optimistic if they can get Hammers back on track and sensible stadium facilities here or elsewhere in borough. UP THE HAMMERS ! WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE THEM BACK.

  45. Yes it was a quarry of some kind and my understanding is that as a result it became contaminated which made it unsuitable for housing, and that’s the reason Chick Woodroffe was able to get the land relatively cheaply and build a stadium in the first place. When. similar parts of land get contaminated the cost of cleaning is usually astronomical and not cost effective so I don’t know how the prospective buyers will get round all that. However, even if permission for a speedway track were given tomorrow there are still the same problems that I mentioned in my last post, in particular finding someone to put up the money and a promoter to make a go of it. You only have to look at the problems facing Wolves , Peterborough, and Swindon, and they are all in better positions than a brand new Lakeside would be. This is only my opinion of course and there may be other things going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about, but it doesn’t look like it at the moment.

  46. the 1980 grand prix final brings back many memories for me. it was run at wimbledon in torrential rain, i can remember those photos of alan grahame covered in wet shale with just his eyes visible! . those were the days.

  47. Really loved this competion, the early days of it. It was a massive new tournament for 1976 when, I think it was over a wee or so, every top flight track (was it 19 then?) staged a round. In 1977 I remember Speedway Star magazine contained the scoregrids for every round and, as a enthusiastic kid, I would get each morning's Daily Mirror and fill in each score. The competiton died out after 1978, they cut the qualifying process, and I think the last GP staged was 1980.

  48. Result from that memorable night at the White City in '77: Volkswagen Grande Prix Final 1st. Ole Olsen (Denmark & Coventry) 13 (after r/o); 2nd. John Louis (England & Ipswich) 13; 3rd. Malcolm Simmons 11 (after r/o) (England & Poole); 4th. John Davis (England & Reading) 11; 5th. Dave Jessup (England & Reading) 10; 6th. Gordon Kennett (England & White City) 10; 7th. Michael Lee (England & King’s Lynn) 8; 8th. Steve Bastable (England and Cradley Heath) 7; 9th. Ivan Mauger (New Zealand & Exeter) 7; 10th. Ila Teromaa (Leicester & Finland) 7; 11th. Finn Thomsen (Denmark & Wolverhampton) 6; 12th. Ray Wilson (England & Birmingham) 5; 13th.= Larry Ross (New Zealand & Wimbledon) 4; 13th.= Eric Broadbelt (England & Poole) 4; 15th = Tony Davey (England & Ipswich) 2; 15th. = Doug Wyer (England & Sheffield) 2; 17th. Chris Morton (England & Belle Vue) 0 Olsen overtook Tiger on the final bend of the run-off final and that won him the overall title from Louis too. I was bitterly disappointed as a big Tiger fan and NOT of the Great Dane! My real favourite though PC was unable to defend his GP title due to the injury he'd picked up just days before the WF..
