What's serious, is that you are having a pop at a young rider who has done remarkably well 2 years after first sitting on a speedway bike.4 points

IF Rew ends up there, I can see him becoming a heavy hitter around the NSS very quickly, giving Belle Vue four heavy scorers at home. Big fan personally, talented boy.4 points

I've just re-read an interview with Gary Havelock he made in "Backtrack" some years back and then he was saying that laydown engines didn't "offer" the opportunity for riders to apply throttle control...it was either off or full on with nothing in between and personally I think this is the problem with many riders now. The bikes are too powerfull for the often too restricted tracks which can cause issues with riders seemingly "out of control."4 points

Berwick and Glasgow both had 12 home fixtures in the season, it’s just ridiculous planning.Glasgow have investigated heavily in the Stadium and Sport can’t see how that can help their business.Fans will lose interest if there is another season like last.I know a few who already have.2 points

If true, how is it any different than Brennan leaving Birmingham to go to Ipswich?2 points

Yes fans get told all sorts of lies but then the reality is their club is closed and there seems no hope in a return. Oxford is the only recent positive that a club can come back after years away. In my opinion if Poole cannot stay where they are then it will close, it is just not viable in todays world.2 points

Moneybags Belle Vue cherrypicking another rider? Perhaps they ought to swap the Ace and use a Cherry as their emblem this year.2 points

I would go along with that riders seem obsessed with power and IMO the likes of Poland are able to build tracks to accommodate these rocket machines .In this country most of the power is needed to get off the start ,even then this will vary from rider to rider naturally taller heavier riders will need more than shall we say shorter lighter riders. Scott Nicholls has said this is one of the reasons he has always struggled on big fast tracks ,the natural power to weight ratio . Look at the GP's BZ , Hancock compared to Freddie or Doyle who are natrally going to be heavier need more power to get the bike off the start. That power is then unmanageable during the race on many occasions, hence why we see bikes picking up and heading for the fence !2 points

I don't, but the thought of it being "Friday At Eight" would be a great reminder of how Promoters could Promote Speedway in my formative years. RIP: Len2 points

If Oxford were to pull out of the Championship KO Cup like they did in the Premiership, and the BSN Series were ditched (can't see a place for this in a 2H2A league), then a 2H2A season would add a grand total of 0 Cheetahs fixtures to the calendar (16 new league fixtures - 8 less KO Cup fixtures and 8 less BSN Series fixtures). Of course that scenario is based on KO Cup and BSN Series finals appearances, but you get the idea. Certainly sounds doable. Should stress this isn't on Oxford, though. Oxford aren't holding the SCB to ransom like some have claimed, it simply must have already been decided that 1H1A will be happening in 2025 for them to have declared they are running in three leagues. Unless something like the above scenario has been agreed upon.1 point

Yes.... and no. Had a lot more Championship fixtures (30 out of a possible max of 36 - 83%), but could have been worse in the Premiership if they had been in the KO Cup and made the playoffs (24 out of a possible max of 34 - 71%). Basically Oxford raced in 64 (80%), but could have been 80 if they had been in all comps and reached the final of each. They also staged the Championship Pairs and British Under-19 Championship, so they couldn't have been that stretched with the fixtures.1 point

Yes, some land around the industrial area/edges of the MOD site which is now not used, perfect location.1 point

It would be an additional eight fixtures if the Championship were to go 2H2A. Just six more if they ditch the BSN Series. It's probably just about doable, but wouldn't leave much wiggle room for rain offs. I can't imagine Oxford would willingly sign up for all three leagues and make a big announcement about it if a change to 1H1A was in doubt to be honest. It must have already been decided. Then again, this is speedway and stranger things have happened.1 point

Good post Ian,I suppose the answer would have been for the speedway promotion to have taken the long lease on the stadium when the council made it available, my understanding is that the lease was 'free' on condition that certain works were carried out(main one being the new grandstand).Unfortunately the poole promotion like most other speedway promotions lacked foresight(hats off to the facennas)and opted for the 'easy'option of renting with no thought for the future .when I read people saying poole speedway and its main sponsors will now take on the stadium! I think why didn't they do it when they had the chance??Not a criticism decisions have to be made at the time.1 point

taking into account the completely fair enough dig at our friend ouch, id imagine IF rew ends up at bv it would be because of the track and lemon1 point

I don't for sure, that's why I said "appear"... I'm just going by the lack of proactivity by all other Speedway clubs with the exception of Belle Vue. And with the club still up for sale? (I haven't heard otherwise) where is the incentive for the current promotion to look for another base?1 point

How do you know that the Poole promotion have not been proactive in looking at new and old sites?1 point

I suspect one of the problems with floodlights is the associated investment required such as car park lighting and street lighting along the access road, the cost of installing floodlights would be a small part of the overall bill. Personally as a travelling supporter from Barrow the 3 or 5 starts suits us but wouldn't be keen on a 7 - 7,30 start as sometimes our grandson comes with us and it would be too late getting home. From a future view if the promotion seriously wants to stage FIM meetings I think lights will be recurred.1 point

I believe the 'Kids go free for Summer' didn't bring in any more kids even though hundreds of vouchers were given out in schools. It's difficult, the sport in its present form probably requires some form of re-invention. Kids can get bored easy so this has to be taken into consideration as well. Think the club needs a single point of entry through an electronic pay booth along the lines of the one at Redcar. All other possible points of access need to be properly secured because it is relatively easy to gain access at points around the stadium. Much needed toilets with wash basins, a catering facility serving hot food and an improved PA system would all represent great improvements for next season. I felt that the 'Comets lager' initiative has been a success as well as a decent brew. Some fans missed it when it went out of stock at the back end of the season. I would appeal to fans to refrain from bringing in their own alcohol but support Andrew and the club as every little helps. Most stadia do not allow alcoholic drinks to be brought in. Re Start Times : difficult one this . A nice warm weekend afternoon can be attractive, fans can sit and have a drink or ice cream etc. With either a 3pm or 5pm start on a Saturday or Sunday and most visiting fans from the Northern Teams should still get home at a reasonable hour. Personally I have always felt that speedway looks better under floodlights, the light level has to be very good and general stadium lighting would be required which at the moment is probably not financially doable. Having such lighting would however open up the possibility of evening racing.1 point

This is why I'm cheering on Ipswich whilst the Panthers aren't on track. Ritchie's supporting our fight to reach our goal so it's only fair that we support Ipswich's fight to reach their goal (PREM Title)1 point

Kenni Larsen is the last rider people would have thought as dangerous. His gating ensured he was nearly always coming out of the second bend in first place. One of the nicest riders to ride in British Speedway1 point

I understand that completely, not denying that's the right thing to do at all. My (tongue in cheek) reply was to a comment that Poole fans are the best in the world. Following that premise then they should all turn up to NDL matches & the Ford's would make an even bigger profit! Honestly I'd have to say Oxford have the best fans, they turn up in sufficient numbers to run teams in all 3 leagues, plus put up with a team manager who apparently tried to hinder them. Massive credit to the Oxford fans* from me. * Before someone says anything, not the ones who verbally or physically abused opposing fans or riders of course, not singling them out, sadly all clubs will have a few bad eggs.1 point

The strongest 1-7 I could come up with using realistic riders only and turning a blind eye to the Douglas to Brum rumours would be this. 1. Fricke, 2. Howarth, 3. Masters, 4. Becker, 5. Douglas, 6. C. Cook & 7. Hagon (RS) = 39.93 If Leicester want a big hitter then they'll have to be sitting ducks at reserve because Hagon needs a strong No.6 to partner him at reserve considering how much he struggled as RS.1 point

He has a massive chip on his shoulder when it comes to Ipswich for some unknown reason but try not to bite. He’s also very wrong. Unlike his club that dumps young British riders (Connor Mountain) in a desperate attempt for silverware, Ipswich are well known for being loyal and standing by their riders even at the expense of success on track. There isn’t another club that would have stood by Erik Riss all season long whilst suffering with long term illness which almost certainly contributed to losing the title in 2023.1 point

There’s a lot of scenarios now how a satisfactory conclusion can be achieved. We are certainly in a better position now than we were 24 hours ago. It is an amazing achievement from a group of seven blokes who got together to fight this one year ago. Supporters should rightly celebrate this moment, let’s face it they haven’t had a lot to celebrate in the last year, but it’s important to understand we have only won a battle not the war.1 point
