It’s the basic principle of the more they rev the louder they are and the original silencers were straight through ones till about 10 years ago, then they put a metal block half way along the silencer which caused extra back pressure and heat so engines had to be altered to suit the back pressure and heat shields were introduced because the silencers were getting so hot, this was the cause of the cheating when riders were drilling holes in the block and then the current silencers have the same hole in them that the cheaters were doing, it’s writing stuff like this and reading it back you realise how stupid speedway really is4 points

The 2valve/4 valve argument is largely redundant, it’s has no real bearing on the current state of the sport, bikes are no faster now in real time speed than they were 40 years ago, what has changed dramatically is the speed of the back wheel, engine revs now are ridiculously and unnecessarily high, japs revved up to around 6000, 2valve Jawa revved up 7500 revs, 4 valve weslake were up to around 9500 and upright GMs to around 11500, the modern GM can max out at around 13500 revs although during a race you would be lucky to hit 12,000 revs but as I said earlier overall times over 4 laps haven’t really changed, the increase in revs is causing the tyres to disintegrate and it’s causing the tracks to disintegrate and it’s also made the bikes flat out power rather than throttle control, the modern silencer has reduced the usual power down to about 2000 revs, anything out side that usable rev range and you will not go anywhere, imo the introduction of a 10,500 rev limit via the rev limiter, a better tyre and a better silencer would make the bikes easier to control, you could also do things like smaller cam lift or heavier flywheels or softer compression to reduce the overall revs of the engine, it’s not too hard to implement these measures but unfortunately the sport is run by the riders for the riders via the tuners so don’t expect anything to change anytime soon4 points

Can we just take it as read that any rider who was killed in action 'left us too soon' The most complete list is here: https://speedwayinmemoriam.yolasite.com/3 points

I know nothing is likely to change but hope we get the Tigers vs Comets more than 1H, 1A next season. Both sides take a good away following and certainly generates interest this end. It's a travesty when you think Poole/Oxford raced each other 8 times this year. Something has to change, and if the reason for lack of meetings is mainly down to Oxford running 3 sides, then it's an absolute shambles. I fear that it's just going to be the same old BSN groups and then the same league format.3 points

There’s a case for handicap racing there then. If some riders struggle then get them out first and the “good” rides can pass them. Personally it matters not how good or bad a rider is at these so called technical tracks, if you don’t gate you don’t win - simple. Jake’s as wobbly as you’re going to get at this stage in his career but if he gates at these technical tracks he gets points. Makes me laugh how NSS can be deemed a throttle jockey track when it’s the most technical out there from a speedway racing point of view due to the amount of lines to either guard or mount an attack. If technical is popping out of the gate and sitting on THE line a la scalextic shows more skill than moving around the track effectively then I’m happy to leave them in their happy ignorance.3 points

With very little profit though.Better winning everything in Championship than going bust.3 points

I see your point but the throttle jockey track hasnt had any negative effect on Dan for example when it comes to tracks like Cardiff and Leicester. Not the "technical" tracks around these days like there used to be.3 points

If you can't tell the difference between Jason Garrad riding around and falling off on his own, and Vinnie Foord riding around and dangerously taking off an opposing rider(s) because he doesn't have the skill to control his speed - then I'm not sure your opinion is worth listening to. Sorry.2 points

Don't see why so many people have a problem with this post. If Lambert rides as well as he did last year, then it will be interesting - could mean decent races against Lawson, Brennan & the Cooks. Lisa never said it would help Oxford win the Cup, merely that it could be interesting. She's entitled to her opinion, why are so many people bothered by it?2 points

Papers are renowned for telling the truth, probably a planted story to try and get people through the door for tomorrow night’s meeting. If true which I doubt I would be disgusted an Oxford fan.2 points

Ellis at BV would be an interesting one... Always think that there is more to come from him.. Might sound daft, but I think he is a fair bit better than his average in the UK suggests.. With his mate alongside him maybe he will flourish and reach the level many thought he could get to four or five years ago...?2 points

Unless it’s the NL where they added half a point on to the limit just so a rider could get a team after every other team had built theirs2 points

Season ticket holders of the Brummies will have free access to Warwickshire County Championship cricket matches whilst Warwickshire members will be able to attend speedway fixtures at Perry Barr in a reciprocal agreement. So regardless of which sport you like to watch, you could just buy the cheaper season ticket then? But realistically fans would probably want to support their "own" team.1 point

Paul Muchene. He may not have been a future world champion, but was an honest rider who was starting to make his way in the sport. Taken too early after a horrific crash at Hackney in 1989.1 point

Given last year there were a few thank you and goodbye messages after the season finished, does the lack of any such updates so far reveal indecision about make up of the team? Or was that just last year because we won the league?1 point

Just waiting for @BackInTheDHSS to start on Dan Bewley for thinking Vinnie isn't dangerous like he does with other people1 point

See @LisaColette, non-Poole fans can admit when they're wrong. If it was the other way around, you'd be trying to argue the passing of time is different on the south coast.1 point

I didn't stop going after him. I made my point about how dangerous he is, and there isn't anything else to say. He rode far more sensibly at Oxford, which I stated so at the time, so hopefully he's listening to some sage advice. Many others agreed he's too dangerous (and many others didn't), hence the eight pages on the thread. So far you've just buried your head in the sand about his riding style and offered nothing constructive - which I'm guessing is because you're a Poole fan.1 point

It’s questionable where many decent riders would be attracted these days so it would be case of same riders different leagues IMO.They run a good business as it is not worth changing IMO1 point

So - by your logic - we need to compare Lambert like-for-like on a wet track from two years ago (I'm sure nothing has changed in two years, right?), but we have to compare Lambert to Nicholls when he scored six on a dry track? You're making less sense each post! Let's not forget you started this by saying Lambert's inclusion as a guest will make it interesting! Anyway, I guess time will tell. I'll remind you of your original post when Poole win by 20+ points. Maybe Lambert will perform a miracle.1 point

I think maybe Dan would probably be toddling along doing his own thing cleaning up at the NSS if DJ Woffy hadn't have got involved in his career. Dan is a once in a generation talent... can't see that in Hagon1 point

So if three more teams do come in where are the riders of sufficent level coming from . Will they go with 6 man teams as this would free up 6 riders from this years teams. Will they up the average limit for championship riders allowing them to stay to aid development. Its going to be intresting to see.1 point

I would agree to a large extent but that can be said for most m/cycle sport ,the riders that have always stood out to me are the likes of Nikki Ped and Doyle IMO they have a slightly awkward (to me ugly style ) always seem to be on the edge fighting the bike looking I think almost as if they are going to take a highsider any moment .Other riders look like they are in an armchair Hancock , PK and Jack Holder spring to mind , I think Fricke , Bewley have a lovely styles but there no mistaking BZ his is IMO unique .1 point

Rumour has it from a couple of sources that Lawson has signed for Lynn… don’t know how true that is1 point

Very similar to Tim Stone at Newport, done a fantastic job to bring the sport back and put his money where his mouth was. Stoney wasn't everyone's cup of tea (myself included) but put his life into the place. Granted, Len didn't let things get as bad as Stoney did at Newport but you'll see what I mean. Stoney brought the sport back and built it up very high very fast, and the memories he brought to Newport fans will never be forgotten. Post 2003, Newport fans prayed Stoney would sell up and move over for someone else and the family everyone wanted to take over eventually did and we all seen what happened pretty quickly once they did. Len brought speedway back to Rye when nobody else could or would and within a couple of seasons they were a Premier League mega force. The 05 and 07 teams Len built were superb and you'd actually enjoy and admire seeing them come to Newport, especially Robbo who was pure box office. The sport could certainly do with a lot more promoters in the mold of Len Silver now that's for sure.1 point

The way he has rode the last half of the season, He has gone massively down hill. It all coincided with him moving up into the team at Poole and signing for Leicester. These last three big meetings for poole he has shown no appetite whatsoever. I really thought against Oxford last week he would get a hatful against the likes of Coles, Smith and Bourghen. He got lucky in heat 1 when miles behind, getting a point with Boughen's E/F Didn’t score or looked like scoring a point after. Even Smith beat him!!! As others have said his name has helped him get the chances he's had. Saying all that, depending what team Oxford put out Wednesday. He could score a hatful if it's Coles and Smith at reserve!! 👍1 point

I remember Lewis Bridger coming to Newport with a 2 valve upright for the Winter Classic and not having a good day, good thing about that winter meeting was Tim always had riders who would give it a go in the worst conditions, have a look at this final, passing and re-passing ( and a couple of falls)1 point

Would prefer Poole to stick with Hagon over Thompson (if not having both) Hagon did have a very poor end to the season but had kept his average over 5 until the final GSA. Hagon undoubtedly has talent and good backing. Just a huge loss of confidence as soon as he started riding in the premiership. No doubt going to Australia should help him get back to where he was and I would be disappointed if he wasn’t retained. Certainly has it in him to up his average.1 point

Heard he was on an upright.....still could sell it to Barker if Ben is looking for an upgrade....1 point

absolutely agree with the tight and or narrow ones, its no coincidence that the wider & faster sweeping tracks such as bv worky redcar scunny and glasgow provide the best speedway nowadays1 point

So kings lynn end up with the rider that’s lost his bottle shutting off going into first bend. How unlucky can they be.1 point

Is it though? For me it's always been weak. Only really Brennan has come out of the system and done ok. But yes, it should be scrapped, it hasn't delivered what it was meant to do & that get more homegrown into the main team. Most just end up going backward and stuck in the Championship going nowhere. The hope was to find the next Bewley & Lambert but that just isn't happening. The system should just be adopted by the Championship. In the Premiership, I think Brits U23 should get a 25% reduction every year unless they establish a 6 average. That would work better imo.1 point
