I know, but that’s not what you said. ‘Waiving’ means to refrain from using! The ‘i’ completely changed the context of what you were trying to say. English is important.6 points

I think that is exactly why the club are going with this kind of lineup. All riders with connections to the club and/or a track record of giving UK speedway respect. After all the hassles with Musielak and Tarasenko, we need a settled side. There’s nothing you can do about injuries, but you know these riders won’t mess us around.4 points

But I read only yesterday that Boughen was going to Glasgow 😄4 points

Either way, it’s for them to pay for it, if they want to be National and Local planning policy compliant.3 points

Just taking stock of this whole RS thing. Trying to promote young British talent is just masking the fact that the sport in this country has failed to attract interest and sponsorship on a national scale for some time. Promoting the sport does not just attract spectators but has a knock affect for potential riders wanting to take up the sport. The RS system and protected heats (in the football world would equate to not allowed to tackle this player….come on!) reflect poorly from the outside for the top tier of this professional sport. The powers that be are kidding nobody. If the No.7s aren’t up to it, they should be competing at a lower level until they are ready (if ever) to compete. I’m all for giving youth a chance in any sport, but it if this RS system continues in this format, a few riders could decide to call it a day if their confidence is continually knocked through performances due to the positions they are put in. If there aren’t enough competitive riders to go round adopt 6 man teams? I took time out from speedway after the Lions demise in the early 80’s but always look back on the young talents of that era who weren’t wrapped in cotton wool and succeeded because of their ability. Michael Lee is the best example I can think of.2 points

Think his comment in SS regarding Ref decisions and hostile crowd were well over the Top.Atmosphere and and hotly contested meetings are the fans want too see.Would he be saying the same thing if Oxford had won the League.I Doubt it.!!2 points

You really believe that it is done on a pick basis. Not in my opinion,as I said earlier Lynn would have wanted Jenkins or Flint and that is a fact.2 points

Thing is Plymouth have never had an issue getting a number one in initially. It’s getting a replacement in that’s tough.2 points

You have obviously never been to Stock Car racing ? Tomorrow night I will be at Kings Lynn. Admission is £22 for adults, there are 12 races, start time is 5pm, and I will be lucky to be leaving there before 10pm. There will be far more tractor events than you will ever see at a Speedway meeting. About an hour of actual racing in 5 hours or more.2 points

I write as a person of pensionable age who considers himself lucky & fortunate enough to have had a career with associated remuneration/pension and investments to comfortably afford retirement....as I say, I am both lucky & fortunate. Now onto my post inspired by the the points you have made which appear to be both insensitive and inaccurate. Please consider that the vast majority of folk retiring in 2024, started work back in 1974 (with folk over 66 starting work even earlier) when types of pension schemes were limited and yes, the state pension was a sum which was considered & promoted to be sufficient to live on. That said, many larger companies did provide a contributory defined benefit scheme based on accruals of 1/70 or if you were lucky 1/60. Of course many of these schemes are now closed as a result of the disappearing business's with the funds (if remaining) managed by the Pension Protection Fund offering fixed rates of income that are not in line with final salary. This scenario currently effects some 9.6million folk which is 74% of current pensioners. So although many folk had made provisions in addition to the state pension they have been greatly affected by the collapse of such schemes with little time left to make up via other means. Conversely, there is no "myth" about civil servants/local government pension schemes. Example, The Local Government Pension Scheme is a salary related benefit scheme (not affected by stock markets/investment fund performance etc) based on 1/49 accrual rate with employees contributing 25% and the employer 75% of the required contributions. This is a long established and exceptional scheme in comparison to anything available in the private sector and one of the main attractions to working in local government and similar public sectors and as previously stated - no myth.2 points

Polish speedway? We’re talking about the UK here. Adopting the Poles approach ain’t the answer if the riders are not out there. The Poles have continually produced riders who improve because they are being attracted in to the sport which appears to be well run over there. Don’t tell me that the meteoric rise of Lambert and Bewley is down to British Speedway nurturing. These are riders are where they are through ability and determination to succeed where ever opportunities arise. The nearest we have to these guys is Tom Brennan (Woffy is on the countdown now). There is a big gap after Tom for the foreseeable.1 point

i think most of those who moan about it would be folk who dont actually go people who do and saw how well we finished the season against some top sides will be pleased1 point
-
i think it would have every chance IF we can keep a settled team for the whole season or at least the vast majority of it as its absolutely rock solid the mooted side would be very powerful at home competitive away and always have a very strong reserve BUT needs to avoid the unavailability issues which has dogged the club over the last few seasons1 point

the events at poole spoilt it for the neutral fans , i can see his point . if fans need blood and gore for entertainment then the sport has gone backwards as i see it . we dont need this type of brutal raceing at any track . who was robin hood with the pretend bow and arrow ?1 point

Test matches in the summer would be very difficult to organise now bit I have wondered if we could organise somthing at the start of our season, before other counties get started. A 3 match series against, say Denmark would be a great way to highlight the start of our season. You might even try to link it into the Ben Fund meeting. I thought the Danes rather than the Aussies as it would be arare chance to see the top Danes in this country and might attract more fans.1 point

Hopefully it is up the air with Lawson and we end up getting him… if the limit stays at 40 I’d be over the moon with Lawson, Iversen, Klindt, B Cook, Kvech, Harris, Boughen1 point

If its going the way people reckon then aye. I personally would've preferred us to scrap one of the Holders or Woffy to give us a stronger middle order and reserve. If the team is what everyone says it is then it does feel like a mistake imo. I've got no doubt in Rowes ability but to me he should be starting at reserve, there's gonna be a lot of pressure at 2, espically if the rest of the team is having to hold up the reserves, and I feel particularly away from home we will get found out. Gilkesy is a fantastic rider to watch - but does he really look much better than he was in 2023? I wouldn't say so personally. He's also very prone to picking up an injury, so for me it feels like a massive risk bringing him in at 6. It just feels like it's too unbalanced and then you've got to question will our top four want to always carry the team if they don't get going? There were whinges last season when we had to go to super heats and particularly from woffy when Howarth was under performing. So how will they handle it with what I'd say is a weaker bottom 3?1 point

Sedgmen averaged 5.82 from 5 matches for Brum, but his rolling ave is only 4.79. If his average went down it must be because he dropped some high scoring matches from his rolling ave, not because he was poor for Birmingham. Based on these figures, he'd be a great signing.1 point

All the riders were present except Lewi. Bastian informed everyone he is going in for major surgery to hopefully sort out the leg he injured in that crash at Poole. The announcement of Drew Kemp being back for 2025 was well received. As expected Drew cleaned up in the awards for supporter's club, riders and fans rider of the year.1 point

World Champions and world class riders 22/23 of age: Michael Lee Champion 22, Peter Collins Champion 22, Kelly Moran 4th in 79 world final 19, Tommy Knudsen 3rd 81 world final 20, Kelvin Tatum 3rd 86 world final 22, I could carry on all night! Take Connor Coles and Jack Smith last night, they looked a pair of complete novices. I don't know how long he's been riding but Connor is 30 years of age. Jack is 24. Do you think these two will eventually develop? They have rode most of their careers in the NDL. Now because the CL is so weak they find themselves riding in the CL outclassed on a regular basis, only beating riders who themselves are of NDL standard. The CL, we are getting told will most likely be weaker again next season !!! I bet the entrance fee won’t reflect on that though!1 point

If you make the age limit younger / reduce how long you can be a rising star, then you'll weaken the system. Many fans think these riders are too weak for the Prem already, if you had to promote the next batch earlier, they'll be struggling more.1 point

I'm fortunate in that I have a small private pension and was able to pay into a savings plan. Having moved to York some years ago I worked within the tourism industry where generally salaries are barely above minimum wage. How my younger ex-colleagues will cope in years to come is questionable and I don't envy them. York is a tourist centre and prides itself on same but that isn't reflected in salaries unfortunately.1 point

I am one of your pensioners living only on state pension, I paid my NI and Taxes from when i left school until I was about 70 actually i paid Tax as Ni stopped at retirement but has changed again recently, lets get this straight most of my generation expected the state pension would be enough to live off, other gold plated pensions were/are for civil servants, council workers, NHS etc etc they are the ones that have a decent standard of living, neither am i one of the pensioners of which there are more and more that has had a property or such like left in a will, so yes some pensioners have never had it so good but others have to rely solely on state pension, and then you have those on pension credit who for various reasons did not pay enough into the system yet end up better off (housing benefit, council tax paid, free dental care, optical care, winter fuel payments) than those that did, don't say i didn't plan ahead it's the people that abused the system (Mental Health is the new lazy ) then and now that need sorting out but none of our politicians will grasp the nettle.1 point

I was checking thru team members of my team Oxford who rode for the "Rebels" during my first two years following the sport. Those no longer with us are Garry Middleton, Oyvind S. Berg, Colin Gooddy, Ken McKinlay, Svein Kaasa and later additions and regulars in 1973 Gordon Kennett, Bob Kilby, John Dews and Malcolm Ballard. Those surviving are stalwart Rick Timmo, Norman Strachan and Preben Rosenkilde from the 1972 squad. Certainly made me realise how the passing years have taken many of my "heroes" from that era.1 point
