There’s a lot of scenarios now how a satisfactory conclusion can be achieved. We are certainly in a better position now than we were 24 hours ago. It is an amazing achievement from a group of seven blokes who got together to fight this one year ago. Supporters should rightly celebrate this moment, let’s face it they haven’t had a lot to celebrate in the last year, but it’s important to understand we have only won a battle not the war.9 points

One quick story. At the World Cup event we held in the early 2000s, we obviously rented the track to stage the event, a sponsor of the event had his banner placed over a banner for the Showground, because they hadn’t sponsored the event. After heat 3 I was called to a crisis at the back of the grandstand, the CEO of the Showground was holding the join of the tv feed (to the world) and said if you don’t take the banner down covering our advert, in five minutes, I’m ending this and everyone can go home. I got a ladder and removed it. Also a lot of people don’t realise that even though we paid rent to run Speedway the Showground wouldn’t allow us to hire in and receive payment for food and drink vendors, they took all of that money themselves. More recently our supporters even had to cut the grass in the car park and spectator areas and do the maintenance on the Grandstand as well, just to operate. They were not good landlords.6 points

Saw that myself earlier. I know the competitive nature of supporters is to not want your rivals to look good and sign strong riders, but there surely can’t be any true fan that doesn’t want him to return. There are few riders in Speedway that have the X factor but he’s one of them. Box office and he’s great for the league.6 points

Er……what would be the point in dragging all staff, riders and fans to Wimborne Road tonight when it’s clear the forecast is accurate and that everywhere is wet already? The radar shows heaving rain crossing the channel and will hit in the next couple of hours. So if Poole hadn’t called it off, then when it pours down the same people on here would be moaning about Poole not calling it off early and saving people a wasted journey, time and money. https://www.netweather.tv/live-weather/radar5 points

I am one of your pensioners living only on state pension, I paid my NI and Taxes from when i left school until I was about 70 actually i paid Tax as Ni stopped at retirement but has changed again recently, lets get this straight most of my generation expected the state pension would be enough to live off, other gold plated pensions were/are for civil servants, council workers, NHS etc etc they are the ones that have a decent standard of living, neither am i one of the pensioners of which there are more and more that has had a property or such like left in a will, so yes some pensioners have never had it so good but others have to rely solely on state pension, and then you have those on pension credit who for various reasons did not pay enough into the system yet end up better off (housing benefit, council tax paid, free dental care, optical care, winter fuel payments) than those that did, don't say i didn't plan ahead it's the people that abused the system (Mental Health is the new lazy ) then and now that need sorting out but none of our politicians will grasp the nettle.5 points

BIRMINGHAM Speedway are delighted to confirm their participation in the 2025 ROWE Motor Oil Premiership. The Brummies have met conditions that were recently agreed following a cash flow crisis at the end of the 2024 campaign. And club CEO Nigel Tolley informed league chiefs of their position at a British Speedway Promoters’ Ltd meeting on Tuesday. “It goes without saying that it’s a massive relief,” Tolley said. “The situation has been changing day-by-day but with some hard work behind the scenes and the generosity of people out there, we found ourselves in the position we needed to be at at this stage. “We’re not completely out of the woods just yet but we’re where we needed to be at this point to be back at the tapes next season and just as importantly, we now have a path that will enable us to clear all outstanding debts in the near future. “Team building for 2025 is underway and I will do everything I can to build a team the supporters can really relate to and get behind because I think that’s something they missed out on a little bit this year. “We’re certainly not just hanging in there to make up the numbers and our aim is to be a much more competitive force in next year’s Premiership. “We can now start going back to the riders we’ve already been speaking to and hopefully we’ll be able to announce our first signing by the end of this week.”4 points

I'm not a Poole fan but I think people are being a bit over the top. Vinnie's not the only young rider who crashes, there's a few others I can think that have had quite a few of them too!3 points

Its difficult to imagine, why UK speedway promoters believe they can disprove the saying, "if you keep doing what you've always done, then you will always get what you've always got" - and grow the sport whilst still serving up the same old......"speedway, the family sport" concept. They have, for many a year failed to add (or even provide) value to the show they put on, whilst nearly every other sport has, be it improved facilities, different formats, world class social media etc. The result, Cricket, golf, football, Rugby and more all report increases in attendance & revenues whilst speedway struggles to (survive) significantly grow its fan base . All these sports regularly increase their admission prices and sure some fans may voice their discontent, but the the sport thrives. In the great scheme of things £22.00 is not a great deal of money to spend (neither is it insignificant) but if a person only has that type of discretionary amount available, then it comes down to choice, and the event providing the most perceived value for money will more than probable, get the nod and for many, that is not UK speedway.3 points

Oh yes, just when you think he couldn’t get any lower he does. You wouldn’t have seen it on the livestream but when they came in he turned around in his chair and just stared at me and smirked for the whole of their speeches, he wasn’t looking at them he kept looking in my eyes, he was trying to goad me. Of course I ignored it, but hey we had the last laugh.3 points

I know that you're telling the truth here in that the public face of our excellent working relationship was all a front for the reasons that you state & have told me numerous times. I do have a problem with the rest though, especially how Buster's position changed from his positive 2022 centre green speech to still then running a 2023 campaign that was a downer and negative from the off. He then gave AEPG their PR coup of the farewell to the showground meeting which, if my memory serves me right, he felt deserved praise because he didn't need to do it? (happily made a shedful though allegedly) We were facing extinction and if he'd stood up to Butterfield who then threw us out for the reasons you say then I might feel differently. I appreciate that it's hard work and his money he's invested & investing but it was all very unsatisfactory IMHO.3 points

Where are we with Kyle Newman's testimonial? News seems to have faded away. He's been a committed character in British speedway, and he deserves to have his day..3 points

You won’t like this, but I’m going to defend Buster. You have to understand how difficult it has been to race speedway for the last 20 years at the Showground. The owners and latterly AEPG have made things so difficult, step out of line and you have the threat of being kicked off, you have to bow down to them. Any disingenuous comments would have seen the club kicked out mid season. I always felt the Showground enjoyed putting pressure on the club, they liked this master/servant approach. So Buster could never say what he really thought, just as I couldn’t when I was promoter there. His hands were somewhat tied.3 points

You all need to forget this ownership issue. There is no ownership because there is no operating club. There is no licence because there is no track. The licence has reverted to the BSPL. Ownership and Licence is irrelevant to the campaign. It is no different to the Coventry situation.3 points

There is a lot of talk about admission prices and the correlation with attendance figures. If prices were a couple of quid lower, would a few more of hundred spectators show up? Trying to apply simple business economics in this sport in its current state is pointless. If prices went up or down by around £3 to £5 next season I do not think it would make much difference to attendances, due to the fans age demograph. The sport relies on die hards in the 60 plus age group who will always moan about prices but will still pay to watch the sport because ‘we always have done’. Being brutally honest, even when some clubs have offered serious discounts on certain meetings, the number of additional attendees is usually underwhelming. Getting people through the turnstile is one thing, but then delivering a product to want the casual supporter to return is another. Club’s are not naive enough to think that there are queues of people waiting for admission price tweaks to visit their tracks. Fact of the matter is, the people that could make an impact financially aren’t aware of the sport and worse still, are not aware of a track that might be local to them. Promotion of the sport in the UK on the whole sums up all of the above.2 points

Riding with extra padding under his Kevlars and changed is bike frame from metal to rubber which will help him bounce off the fence better or if he clouts another rider. At least he is trying.2 points

And, just like with Swindon, the spectre of the houses will always create a possibility of noise complaints in the future should Peterborough stay on that site... With the council now seemingly "on side" now is the chance to be the "bigger party" and suggest alternatives to prevent more time and money being used up discussing things, changing things, appealling things, and re-appealing things.... Maybe all could "win" now?2 points

I'm not sure what everyone wants. The club to fold or to continue but always finish last and in debt. Some of you write with glee that the club is doomed, some ask why bother it will be a failure and others just want to moan about who the manager is. Would be nice to read about how pleased some people are that the club is still running.2 points

Absolutely. Watching the live stream it was apparent that sticking to policies and facts gained traction. Stunts like using schoolchildren to try to emotionally blackmail the Planning Committee are abhorrent and should have no place in such a meeting.2 points

Lots goes on behind the scenes. Birmingham struggled to be competitive, last thing they need is someone pinching one of their leading lights from a season that provided very little. We’ve just read there’s been meetings as recently as yesterday, wouldn’t be a bit surprised if there wasn’t a gentleman’s agreement not to pinch the riders they wanted to keep to help them be competitive next year. All guesswork though, he might still end up at Ipswich we’ll have to wait and see.2 points

I would say so, history shows when speedway clubs have gone up and down the leagues there has been little change in crowd level. The star riders in the Premiership may have a very slight crowd draw, Emil, Tai or Bewley but I think there is more than a few teams that would be financially better off running at NL level. Also Birmingham might finally have a winning team.2 points

Basically (don't quote me) he said that Chapman had praised AEPG for what they had done for Peterborough Speedway while presiding over an amicable ending. Butterfield was questioned about negotiating with the consortium but said that he could only legally deal with the owner who showed no interest in saving Peterborough Speedway. When Butterfield was asked whether, during his tenure, Buster had spoken to him at any time about an alternative location for the Panthers he said that he hadn't, despite being aware of the development threat.2 points

100%. I'd really love to know (of course money counts) why he likes coming over. What is it British Speedway give him? Us fans are always this tracks s#!t, that tracks s#!t, this & that teams s#!t, stadiums ⅔ empty. Is it as simple as "easy money" in the Premiership over the Elitserien or is their something else us fans just don't understand? With Doyle & other Aussie's it's obvious why they'd be here, language, family etc, but I don't understand it with Pole's, Swede's, Dane's etc. Organisation of our league is so erratic with weather & rearranged fixtures too. The competitiveness of the Swedish league is far greater. But yes, 100% Sayfutdinov is box office & should be appreciated by every track.2 points

Len never suffered fools gladly and the song my way could have been written for him. He never brought much trophy success to hackney but he gave the hawks fans something priceless, a fantastic circuit and some of the most exciting riders who could pass anyone upon it. I think his loyalty to riders stands up as a shining light and stuck with many through thin and thinner. A trait sadly gone today as riders are dumped easily as the play off semis approach (yes you stead and lemon). They broke the mould when they made Len and sadly speedway will never see a promoter like him ever again.2 points

Well done to the Save Peterborough team for putting up arguments to defeat the application for 650 houses on the track site. No doubt this will now go to appeal, but well done to the Chair of the Committee for saying, not directly in these words, that AEPG should have done more to comply with the Local Plan and NPPF to retain existing facilities. The war may not have been won, but at least the Save Peterborough team will be able to fight on. Well done2 points

Sad news, the sport has lost another old-school promoter & more importantly a true showman. In the mid-1980's, when the Boulevard had closed & before Craven Park opened for speedway, in between coach trips the Hull Speedway Supporters Club held regular get-togethers & often invited guest speakers; promoters, riders, team managers, etc. Len Silver was one such guest and very entertaining & interesting he was too. All were offered travel expenses most didn't accept anything, Len flatly refused to take a penny saying "save your money, put it towards a bus trip to a speedway meeting". He likely had business in the area anyway, I don't know, but it struck me that there was a guy from all the way from down south come to chat with us northerners brought together by the sport of speedway. RIP Len....2 points

Its what people think but never been laid out as such and certainly not in such a public forum. Don't think that it's ever been explained satisfactorily what went on with Tomalin but he is still around. I take the 5th at that point. Just checked an e-mail from Aug 2023 and it's strange that Butterfield said that when the EEAS CEO told me that: "I believe that AEPG may have had discussions with the current speedway operators as well as the local authority regarding the possibility of relocating to another site, but I am not sure whether this has been progressed." One assumes that he got that wrong1 point
