The fight's not over yet but we've got AEPG on the ropes now, More hope than ever before. Well done to all involved in the fight to save Peterborough Speedway, Their passion doesn't go unnoticed and everyone appreciates the effort they've all put in even if we don't say it enough.6 points

Well done to the Save Peterborough team for putting up arguments to defeat the application for 650 houses on the track site. No doubt this will now go to appeal, but well done to the Chair of the Committee for saying, not directly in these words, that AEPG should have done more to comply with the Local Plan and NPPF to retain existing facilities. The war may not have been won, but at least the Save Peterborough team will be able to fight on. Well done6 points

Thank you to all involved today, especially to all the speakers and the passion they showed for our club. Also a big vote of thanks to the Chair of the committee, I believe he really did sway the votes of some of the committee, with his passion for the showground facility. As for that Cllr Fitzgerald, the less said the better, he must be friends with Mr Butterfield who flapped his way through all afternoon, getting people who are obviously more qualified than him to fights his battles as he couldn’t fight them himself!4 points

You couldn't be more wrong. You shouldn't assume. I am, however, a Pensioner and I am aware of those not so fortunate as myself. To some of them, a two pound extra could be the difference between attending or not. You don't know what the situation is for Pensioners, poor or not. "Think it's fair to say" that you are a young person who is fairly well off, lacking understanding of other people's circumstances.4 points

Saw that myself earlier. I know the competitive nature of supporters is to not want your rivals to look good and sign strong riders, but there surely can’t be any true fan that doesn’t want him to return. There are few riders in Speedway that have the X factor but he’s one of them. Box office and he’s great for the league.3 points

You can't help but think that the best long term solution would be for the local plan to be adhered to and the developers to relocate the Panthers to a protected blank canvas site where there would be no environmental concerns. Everybody gets what they want that way3 points

If Killeen got concussion in the heat 2 crash with Vinnie, why was he allowed to ride again in heat 6 when he crashed again and Foord wasn't in that race?!3 points

RIP Len. Had many discussions with Len when I was a promoter at Newcastle Speedway and I was always entertained by what he said. Views on everything and often spot on with what he said. Nice man who saw the greater picture not just as a promoter. RIP Len3 points

Don't think it's just the increase in admission prices that could put the older generation off, which we all know makes up the majority of all clubs fan base, it's also the cold and wet weather we nearly always get at the start and end of every season, my parents are a prime example, their both in their mid 80's bless um and have been going to speedway for as long as i can remember and used to have a season ticket for Ipswich, Lynn, P'boro and Mildenhall, obviously 2 of those teams no longer run but my parents haven't purchased a season ticket for Ipi or Lynn for the last couple of yrs mainly because of the weather being so unpredictable ie rain offs or just because they ain't keen on turning out on a cold wet evening, i got them hooked up to BSN and have purchased them a season pass the last couple of seasons now and their quite happy to get their weekly fix of speedway in the comfort of their own front room and only take in an actual live match so to speak if the weather is nailed on to be decent.3 points

Sad news, the sport has lost another old-school promoter & more importantly a true showman. In the mid-1980's, when the Boulevard had closed & before Craven Park opened for speedway, in between coach trips the Hull Speedway Supporters Club held regular get-togethers & often invited guest speakers; promoters, riders, team managers, etc. Len Silver was one such guest and very entertaining & interesting he was too. All were offered travel expenses most didn't accept anything, Len flatly refused to take a penny saying "save your money, put it towards a bus trip to a speedway meeting". He likely had business in the area anyway, I don't know, but it struck me that there was a guy from all the way from down south come to chat with us northerners brought together by the sport of speedway. RIP Len....3 points

Your post sums up why so called Speedway fans will never be taken seriously. There's no fact in any of your statement. Just smacks of anti Poole and mouthing off in general.3 points

Because of what you posted before about the Poole 2025 team Lewy/Wayne!🤣 Now its Wayne and Kerr. Who would have thought it?🫢2 points

Len never suffered fools gladly and the song my way could have been written for him. He never brought much trophy success to hackney but he gave the hawks fans something priceless, a fantastic circuit and some of the most exciting riders who could pass anyone upon it. I think his loyalty to riders stands up as a shining light and stuck with many through thin and thinner. A trait sadly gone today as riders are dumped easily as the play off semis approach (yes you stead and lemon). They broke the mould when they made Len and sadly speedway will never see a promoter like him ever again.2 points

Well done to Councillors for identifying, and then officers confirming that, with a single entrance onto and off of the proposed development, then any emergency would cause gridlock2 points

Are you seriously telling me that had Luke Killeen not had Vinnie Foord barge into him and rip out over half the spokes in Luke's wheel with Vinnie's footrest, face-planting Luke and giving the lad concussion, that Luke wouldn't have scored at least six points so that Cheetahs would have won the Championship Grand Final on aggregate? Deluded of Dorset is alive and well!2 points

If that's the team it shows we haven't learnt from this season Edwards & Gilkes have not shown enough to say they will be the answer at reserve2 points

Yes, I think that's a good insight even with the undoubted pressures of promoting. I'm not sure if anyone can remember the book he wrote about speedway - possibly around 1969. I remember it being quite a decent read and much of what he said then is still more than applicable now!2 points

I'm in my 40s, disabled & broke. If I was still going to meetings paying the concession price, I wouldn't sweat over £2-£4. Concessions is an old idea to cover the 'blue collar' workers whose bodies had packed up by 55. Pretty much all those hard slog jobs don't exist anymore and people in to their 70s are way fitter than a 70yo, 30 years ago. If concessions are a need, it should simply be for the disabled & blue badge holders. Just because you're "old" shouldn't give an automatic right to money off. That's absurd in 2024. Anyway, this ain't for this thread. Thanks @LagutaRacingFan for stirring that hornet nest 🤣2 points

Congratulations to DJC who is the 2024 winner!! He adds gold this year to bronze in 2019. The winning team was: Harrison 6.86 to 7.66, Trigger 6.34 to 8.71, A. Pijper 5.81 to 6.44, James 5.70 to 7.20, Wood 4.50 to 7.76, Crang 3.61 to 5.49 and Vale 3.00 to 6.17. 2 of the biggest improvers were Vale and Wood and DJC was the only person to pick them both, whilst Wood was picked by nobody else and Vale by only one other person. The most poplar picks to significantly improve were Scott and Foord. Vale was the most improved 3 pointer. However nobody picked Jason Garrad who was actually the biggest improver in the league! 1. DJC 49.43 2. Dukes 47.73 3. Pottering Around 47.27 4. Hawks 1975 46.77 5. North Yorks Bear 45.41 6. Islander15 44.61 7. RS50 43.92 8. Marky_Mark 42.88 9. Technik 42.40 10. Szkocjasid 42.31 11. Bluenose 42.25 12. Secsy1 38.392 points

Think it's fair to say that if you're a pensioner & poor, it's not likely they're attending Speedway anyway. If you are already attending Speedway, you can manage an extra £2.2 points
-
I wonder if you would say that if you were one (Pensioner). I somehow doubt it. It is largely PENSIONERS who are keeping Speedway going in this country and have done for years. Some Pensioners ARE rich, however, a hell of a lot aren't. You need to think about that.2 points

A great summary... R.I.P. Len... The sport owes him a huge thanks for the incredibly high standards he set, and the enormous amount of effort, work and time he put in to deliver those standards that set the bar height for others to aspire to... Condolences to Andrew and all his family...2 points

Basically (don't quote me) he said that Chapman had praised AEPG for what they had done for Peterborough Speedway while presiding over an amicable ending. Butterfield was questioned about negotiating with the consortium but said that he could only legally deal with the owner who showed no interest in saving Peterborough Speedway. When Butterfield was asked whether, during his tenure, Buster had spoken to him at any time about an alternative location for the Panthers he said that he hadn't, despite being aware of the development threat.1 point

There’s still weeks to go until the AGM so anything can still happen. If the worst happens and Birmingham don’t come to tapes, they may decide to drop the points limit to help another club come up and be competitive.1 point

And i simply can't disagree with your comment, stood on the Back Straight At Leicester that night, watching him either fall off whilst holding a Match Winning 5-1 (Lack of Team Riding Skills AGAIN) or just looking miles off it in his other 3 Heats. I do believe he will return due to the Ritchie Love-In, but i'm sure most loyal Fans will be honest and say a Change is needed, and Jason Doyle should return as Skipper.........BUT1 point

1. Fricke 2. Howarth 3. Lawson 4. Becker 5. Masters 6. Sedgmen 7. Hagon Just my guess. Can't see Dickson making too many changes and he's like riders who are settled here1 point

Well, the best thing is to go at your own pace - too fast too soon can spell disaster. I learnt by building up speed on the straight, lean right over, standing on footrest with bum off the seat and forward then put the throttle back on mid bend. You then gradually bring that bit to earlier in the bend but speed into the corner must also increase. When you feel confident enough you'll find you're then doing all the bend sliding. Once you start sliding, mid bend onwards, you can experiment with the throttle - less and back comes out less, more and you turn more. This teaches you how to change direction in the corner. The biggest thing for me was starting. You really have to go full throttle from the gate and not let off at all, otherwise you may struggle to get around the corner, especially from the inside, but no need to start that until you've mastered the bends.1 point

In the early 70's I recall 'spannerIng' for my chum at a Friday mtg of Hackney vs Wolves, promoter Len Silver and then a few Fridays later getting to Sunderland vs Bradford, for further 'spannering' where Nel Revlis was the promoter! Len perfected time-travel well before Quantum Leap! RIP to a legend.1 point

Very sad news. I would like to thank Len for the many happy memories during his time at Sunderland Speedway. Like others on here I did not have a lot of time for some Promotors, however, Len was different, he inspired me to love the Sport. I respected him immensely. R.I.P. + Len. My condolences to his Family and Friends.1 point

He had a good innings and kept the sport going at great financial cost to himself. Lived and breathed Speedway. Former Provincial league riders champion but as others have said he really came to the fore as a promoter. Inextricably linked to Hackney and Rye House, particularly the latter where the sport only existed because of him and his financial input. One of the best if not the best GB team managers in his day despite backstabbing from other promoters with half his ability. Throw in the fact that he was a top rate track curator and we see there weren’t many areas a of the sport where he was wasn’t a powerful force. The sport is now a poorer place without him1 point

Your welcome to donate, but has it been endorsed by Poole Speedway? And if you donate you are giving your money to 'anonymous Poole fan' - for all we know that could be 'lucifersam' and he's planning to give all your Poole pennies to Luke and Jody.1 point

There have always been chances for the use of Iwade and indeed was well supported by fans in 2022 & 2023 however the venture was not supported by the governing bodies and therefore it slipped away. Mildenhall had run consistently at NDL level for a long time and the weekend raceday suited many but inconsistent fixture lists and big gaps in the calendar forced the withdrawal of the side and pursuit of racing at a higher level (stadium permitting). Workington were incorrectly informed that there would be no NDL and therefore stepped away, Berwick realised that with limited local competition and poor local support it wasn't making financial sense so stepped away. Going back slightly further there was the IOW fiasco and all of these events have one thing in common, a governing body who are ruled purely by self business interest rather than looking ahead as custodians of the sport. Most of the current promotions can stand tall and safe in the knowledge that they played their part in the demise of the sport in this country.1 point

Well done Workington on your 1st season back in championship, lovely set up there, you had a team with a few unknowns and coped well, to make the play offs was an astounding result and you may have gotten further if you had your full team without injuries. Hopefully you can get back some of the Derwent park fans and continue to do well next season. Believe it or not a lot of Glasgow fans were supporting you to do well, shame that there are 1 or 2 Workington fans dislike us, but for the most part you are a friendly lot. You have Steve Lawson who is very well thought off at Glasgow, you also have my fave rider Craig Cook and Claus is also loved by Glasgow fans. I look forward to some friendly rivalry next season.1 point

and pray tell which of Leicesters seven riders have been solely groomed by Leicester and not by other clubs at junior level or even ridden at other NDL teams ? Luke Crang ? Tom Spencer ? Arran Butcher ? Whilst they are to be applauded for running a team and have in recent times upped the practice sessions at the track they are not adverse to paying out a few bob to their riders and bringing in ‘experienced’ riders to strengthen their chances of success. Congratulations on the title , but don't get carried away with it.1 point
