  1. He had a good innings and kept the sport going at great financial cost to himself. Lived and breathed Speedway. Former Provincial league riders champion but as others have said he really came to the fore as a promoter. Inextricably linked to Hackney and Rye House, particularly the latter where the sport only existed because of him and his financial input. One of the best if not the best GB team managers in his day despite backstabbing from other promoters with half his ability. Throw in the fact that he was a top rate track curator and we see there weren’t many areas a of the sport where he was wasn’t a powerful force. The sport is now a poorer place without him

  2. Your post sums up why so called Speedway fans will never be taken seriously. There's no fact in any of your statement. Just smacks of anti Poole and mouthing off in general.

  3. I wonder if you would say that if you were one (Pensioner). I somehow doubt it. It is largely PENSIONERS who are keeping Speedway going in this country and have done for years. Some Pensioners ARE rich, however, a hell of a lot aren't. You need to think about that.

  5. The league win was won only because riders were taken out, Poole had "lost" it with the first leg fact. Now for the KO Cup Oxford riders are still ruled out thanks to Vinnie Foord & the pirates number "8" - a complete injustace! Can the SCB insure that referees have regular visits to Specsavers PLEASE.

  6. The OAP discount needs to be abolished. Pensioners are an incredibly rich generation.

  8. A great summary... R.I.P. Len... The sport owes him a huge thanks for the incredibly high standards he set, and the enormous amount of effort, work and time he put in to deliver those standards that set the bar height for others to aspire to... Condolences to Andrew and all his family...

  10. Sad news, the sport has lost another old-school promoter & more importantly a true showman. In the mid-1980's, when the Boulevard had closed & before Craven Park opened for speedway, in between coach trips the Hull Speedway Supporters Club held regular get-togethers & often invited guest speakers; promoters, riders, team managers, etc. Len Silver was one such guest and very entertaining & interesting he was too. All were offered travel expenses most didn't accept anything, Len flatly refused to take a penny saying "save your money, put it towards a bus trip to a speedway meeting". He likely had business in the area anyway, I don't know, but it struck me that there was a guy from all the way from down south come to chat with us northerners brought together by the sport of speedway. RIP Len....

  11. Big day for Peterborough Panthers and Speedway tomorrow were meeting at 12.30 as ITV is going to be their interviewing fans before and after the meeting. If any fans can make it please come along and shoe your support thanks

  12. Most of the junior riders have either sold/ packed away their equipment for 2024, and taken up thier winter jobs. Doubt a ride at Wimborne Road to be knocked off by Foord is a very attractive early winter fixture ?

  13. I think that result is probably even more of a foregone conclusion than the KO Cup final. Give it a miss, for your own sanity.

  14. R.I.P. Uncle Len A really great character who could occasionally ruffle a few feathers with his opinions; but he always spoke from the heart about the sport that he cared so passionately about. A great promoter and the last of that generation of promoters from the 70's when I first fell in love with the sport. I was fortunate to chat with him on quite a few occasions down the years and he always had an interesting tale to tell or an opinon to give - and, even if you didn't always agree with his opinion, it was interesting to hear nontheless and always gave you something to think about. Great memories and I think I will make a point to sit down and read his book again this week. Condolences to his family and friends at this very sad time.

  15. I have watched Speedway for61 seasons and have very little respect for promoters in general. However I have great respect for Len as.a Promoter. He was a shining light who actually PROMOTED the sport properly. His family should very proud of his achievements in the Sport

  17. Current weather forecasts suggest Wednesday fixture off & Thursday fixture could go ahead. If Poole fixture is put back a week, there is a chance of Killeen being fit and being able to take part in one leg at least.

  18. Poland are demanding that next year's wild-card slot is replaced by a permanent Polish rider. The FIM are in big trouble if they don't accept this. Poland are threatening to take the Warsaw GP off the calendar. The PZM are not messing about.

  20. Polish clubs are often refused licences. What that says to me is the clubs may not always be professionally run, but the governing body is a lot more robust.

  23. Sending my condolences to Andrew and the family. Such a Great Promotor at all his clubs.Such a lovely man. To only think he was at Oxford last week watching the first leg of the cab direct championship final. Such sad news and what a great age.

  24. It's actually quite mind boggling that the planning department and case officer thought that they could take this forward given that AEPG have failed on every metric within the NPPF & Peterborough Local Plan. I kept reading agenda pack thinking that Butterfield & co must have given their eviction of Peterborough Speedway some thought and consideration at some point? He and they clearly never did but now they have their self imposed timeline to meet & the EEAS whining (read the planning portal comments) about wanting their money. They have to throw the dice now and can't undo their incompetence. I'm sure that the Peterborough City Council Planning and Environmental Protection Committee are looking forward to looking at and justifying a decision on this mess?

  26. Very sad news. I would like to thank Len for the many happy memories during his time at Sunderland Speedway. Like others on here I did not have a lot of time for some Promotors, however, Len was different, he inspired me to love the Sport. I respected him immensely. R.I.P. + Len. My condolences to his Family and Friends.

  28. The necessary Road improvements are 2 or 3 years down the line before they begin and judging by the Junction 10 Improvements will probably take another 2 or 3 years to complete so don't hold your breath. That's before any planning starts.

  29. The loophole that they caught Kent with previously is that Graham was listed as one of the promotors. If he was purely renting the venue out there shouldn't be an issue (but im sure the weasel will find one). Does anyone know what banner the Eastbourne lakeside fixture was run under? If SCB then appears to be fine if NORA then it was full of SCB riders who clearly think its fine to ride. The naming issue will probably be dropped now as it was only really in place to disband the MDL allowing the PJL to take over.....how did that work out?

  30. I thought teams weren’t allowed to do this anymore (run their team at another track). I’m sure there were plenty that had to stop running when this was introduced, Cradley, Weymouth etc

  31. Well according to LIEbour's own internal report the ending of the Winter Fuel allowance will kill off around 4000 of 'em. Then again it's cheaper than the Tory option of using Midazolam. As for incredibly rich generation?

  32. Hawkins said similar recently didn’t he. Was tipping him to be the next in line to follow Bewley and Robert Lambert on the GP scene. If Bewley is off to pastures new as rumoured, perhaps Belle Vue will have room to bring him back..

  33. If Poole let Oxford use a rider up to 5, Poole win by 20 on aggregate instead of 30, but would probably make for better racing over the 2 legs. Can't happen but can only see a very one sided final.

  34. He is Australia and doesn’t have the UK family connections of say Connor Bailey, if he had he would have been an RS. He was illegal and it was just another case of team building rules being sidestepped for Ipswich again. James is an Aces asset so if the witches want this one, they’ll have to pay.

  40. Your welcome to donate, but has it been endorsed by Poole Speedway? And if you donate you are giving your money to 'anonymous Poole fan' - for all we know that could be 'lucifersam' and he's planning to give all your Poole pennies to Luke and Jody.
