Apologies if I'm repeating a thread posted elsewhere. Just been caught up on the shooting of young Jay Cartmell who died after being shot in a field in Cumbria ten days ago. Very sad story of an apparently shocking accident. He is reported to be an ardent supporter of Workington and was a regular at the track on race nights along with his Dad. Absolutely shocking for the whole community. All my thoughts are with Jay's Mum & Dad and all his family and friends. They must be devastated at losing him at only eight years old. Hope you can still hang around the pits up above Jay on race days. Rest in Peace young man6 points

You must be easily embarrassed then. Why would any club run a NDL team when they know their fanbase would have zero interest in it. And when they know financially it’s a non-starter, any business would immediately shy away from that , I’m not saying it won’t work for some as it clearly does, working financially for others is sadly not viable. So being embarrassed for what stating facts why should he.6 points

I'd like to say a few words in defence of Peter Schroeck and ht 12 . . . . . . . . . . but, honestly I can't think of any.6 points

Laguta was coaching Vinnie Foord, while Emil and Lindgren were in Tobias’s ear. Other than that nothing to see.4 points

But those clubs that don't run because it is a "loss making idea", are quite happy to hoover up the talent that does emerge from the efforts of other clubs!🤬 And when the promise does not materialise as hoped (e.g. Max Perry), they spit them out and grab another prospect that they have done nothing to support.4 points
-
Exactly. Chris Harris was getting some stick from the Oxford fans last year, and he rode around with his hand cupped to his ear. Had the same impact without the need for lowering himself to the same level as those few fans. Now he's an Oxford rider! Guess that shows the different levels in professionalism.4 points

Kai Huckenbeck Jan Kvech Mikkel Michelsen Jason Doyle Those are your 4 wild cards. Official announcement is tomorrow. The FIM wanted to nominate Emil and Artem, but this was blocked by the PZM. Emil and Artem would have to ride under the Polish flag as FIM rules do not allow neutral athletes. Speedway fans need to boycott the GP series. I would love to see the GP section of this forum closed down. That would send a strong message to the FIM.3 points

Would agree,he rides a bit of inside line too much when behind with his style and has a few same types of off.Interesting in the first race on Sat in front he rode a very good line. Good prospect though and 100% effort.3 points

Well done to Oxford, well deserved victory and a decent lead to take to Poole. I would have taken 8-10 before the night started so 12 could be a little too much with Masters and Nicholls in heat 13 & 15 at Poole. For some reason our top 3 can't get near them most of this season and that showed last night. It will be a cracker Wednesday for sure, Poole can't afford to carry anymore riders again. Like Steve said Hagon and Tobias went off the boil around 2 months ago and have never showed the early season form, could staying loyal cost us a league title again like 2023? only time will tell. Vinnie gave his all and hope he is ok after taking a heavy fall. Massive crowd and the most important thing, speedway was the winner!3 points

Yes! there is a cluster of small Oxford fans to the left of the old pits wall on bend 4. Last time Poole were up it was the same, hand gestures and bad language when I left again last night, it must be Poole! as when I came up for every Prem meeting this year they were quiet! The Oxford fans around us on bend 3 were great, banter but respectful.3 points

Again a good idea in principle but lack of riders and for some reason a lot of fans don't embrace it3 points

Canal sport are by far the best for their speedway coverage, not just for live meetings either, their documentaries and magazine programme about speedway are excellent, they are followed by BSN then eleven sport, Eurosport are to speedway what jive bunny were to music3 points
-
Well my choice is obviously very biased but it was Sky’s production followed by BT both of whom were very professional and forward thinking with their production with Sky making it HD, Jib cameras, Kerb cams, multiple slow mo’s then BT took over and made it a UHD production However this came at a cost with each Sky meeting production costing the same as what Eurosport spend for 5 UK meetings. There simply is no budget for UK racing everything is done using the cheapest option possible for example they use a lot of University students who are looking for unpaid experience that’s why we get some dodgy camera work and editing, vision mixing . The Sky production was normally a 15-18 main cameras and 2 slo mo plus 2-3 radio cameras while Eurosport is 4 main cameras plus 1-2 radio camera they don’t even pay the OB provider for lighting for presentation and instead Mr Morris brings his battery flood lights. Who knows when the contract is up for renewal again Sky may be interested as would now be a good fit for the Sky Sports + channel and is a good filler when no Football3 points

Please don't brand all Poole fans with the same brush there's nothing weird about me mate,I expect Poole to always do well as the Ford's always well nearly always build excellent teams and based on that expect them to win more than they lose but as in tonight and other occasions Poole were second best Oxford were the better team no question and it makes the second leg more exciting. As I have said before it's a shame other teams don't have promoters like the Ford's and I'm not smoke blowing but they are successful so you tell me and your quite knowledgeable why can't other promoters build winning teams is it down to money, contacts,or is it Poole are just the team the good riders want to ride for.Don't know how long people on here have been going to speedway but the days of 41-37, 40-38 are long gone so are many many teams what a shame, how you used to look forward to every week seeing riders like Ivan Mauger,Peter Collins,Ole Olsen the list goes on.3 points

Considering Poole have won the BSN series, finished top of the league and still have a great chance of overturning 12pts I'd day some Poole fans on X need a reality check3 points

We also had the first summer in 56 seasons without a rain-off (home or away).... Fixture lists do usually have a couple of dates reserved for restagings. Plus there were Saturdays blocked for the British Final and Cardiff when no-one could run. I'm not saying it was ideal, but there were reasons. Personally, l'd never start the season til late April. That would soak up blank weeks, and run meetings in warmer weather, too...3 points

Why in a Thread headed “Leicester Lions 2025” are there so many none related posts about other teams & fixtures from times gone past? Any thoughts on Leicester Lions 2025 especially on GP rider(s) being signed?2 points

Not embarrassed in the slightest. Speedway existed up until 4/5 years ago without the need for reserve teams from other clubs. Was a thriving NDL on its own right. Btw I have little interest in premiership either, that embarrassing too? The champ imo has always had the most entertaining product until Mr Morris has come along and tried to run it into the ground to try and maintain a premiership that's been on life support for at least a decade. I have knowledge of the NDL and the riders coming through, I just don't find Joe Thompson winning most heats by 3/4 of a lap entertaining and wouldn't pay to watch it. Get it?2 points

Yes last night my daughter, who hasn’t much of a clue about speedway, got the middle finger and Wker sign off them as she went to get a drink. Scared her a little she couldn’t understand it. She had been with me to Leicester Bournemouth footy in the afternoon and no trouble or problems at all. Weird that Oxford speedway has a small but vocal yob contingent. When we were leaving after the meeting had finished it was repeated. There’s celebrating a win and perhaps waiving bye bye, but wker signs and the middle finger while shouting abuse is really not cool. Doesn’t bother me but don’t do this to young women.2 points
-
Exactly, Gambo, well said. As a speedway fan I would be embarrassed to come out with the statement "have no interest in NDL racing and know of many who feel the same". Sit at home and watch the Grand Prix then, and pride yourself on your knowledge of Zmarzlik etc.2 points

I think u will find he means the biggest crowd since the reopening.2 points

Biggest ever Oxford crowd? Crowds were literally three times the size of that in the Hans Nielsen days in the 80s. Not even close.2 points

If true that makes the decision not to replace him on heat 12 even worse. Schroeck should've replaced a fit Boughen with Killeen, but to leave an injured Boughen in for no reason - unfathomable.2 points
-
Here's a ground-breaking, revolutionary thought. How about one or two of the Championship clubs who want more fixtures running an NDL team?2 points
-
There is no question he is carrying an injury. During the Championship riders meeting he put his bike down to avoid running into/over Sam Masters and hit the ground hard, then to crash in heat 3 tonight was the last thing he needed. Only time will tell how he feels physically and can make that decision.2 points
-
12 point lead may not be enough but at least it adds interest to the second leg. Oxford need masters and Nicholls to be bang at it and hope heeps plus killeen come to the party too.2 points

Surely you know what Poole fans are like by now When they win a match it’s Shovlar saying it’s against the odds and that other fan going on about his stupid coffee… or people saying they know more than others Then when they lose tonight it all goes quiet and not a peep from them …. Worst losers always have been …. The comments on social media show you what their fanbase is like So we all now need to wait for the Shovlar to tell us how much it will be a shock if they overturn this deficit … it won’t be … but in his eyes it will be the biggest comeback since Lazurus Just the weirdest fanbase in the sport2 points

Awaits shovlar to come along saying this is oxfords to lose….2 points

Let’s say Doyle didn’t make another semi final which was unlikely given his form at the time of unjury and only got 8points from the remaining GPs he would of still made the top 6 on 111 points, I think that should guarantee his wild card spot, same goes for Michellesen and the other 2 are laguta and sayfutinov, only really madsen who could feel hard done too, woffy shouldn’t even get a sniff, his GP form this year from 6rounds were dreadful2 points

Always a subjective discussion, but... He did nail six world titles in the "golden era" when competition was truly at its fiercest... Fundin, Briggs, Moore, Collins, Olsen, Michanek, Jessup, Simmons, Louis, Crump, Jancarz, Plech, and so many many more truly World Class riders, raced at the top level against him... To win it six times in that era was trruly staggering...2 points

I was there that night also and I like many others thought it was an engine failure and then I found out the reason why. I also remember the time when invitations were sent to a few riders from the then British League to an open meeting in Poland at the same track that would be hosting the World Final two weeks later, Ivan was the only one to accept the booking which gave him some timely practice at the track. He was using his head as he did at White City that night. Needless to say he went on to win another World Title there. What a man what a rider. Is he the greatest of all time ? I think so.2 points

But, but, but..... someone who got his facts from Speedway Updates says Killeen took him out. He's surely the one that's right, and not all the people that were there and witnessed the incident? 🤦♂️1 point
