Strange, isn't it. Back in the times when I started going to Speedway (1965) we would go to Coventry (and away tracks) to watch a Speedway meeting, because we loved the sport. Whether Coventry were fighting for the League Title or fighting to avoid the wooden spoon, we still went to see a Speedway meeting, because we loved the sport. We went to season opening (and closing) challenge matches to see a Speedway meeting because we loved the sport. Nowadays it seems that others only want to see 'meaningful' meetings. To me, all Speedway meetings are meaningful, the result is just secondary.5 points

Crap? They finished 2nd in the league, made the playoffs and whilst missing their first choice number 6 were beaten by a team over two legs who have hit form at exactly the right time with two big hitters being exceptional. Congratulations to the Aces on being unquestionably the best team & deserved winners of the playoffs. And congratulations to the Lions on achieving the clubs highest position in top tier racing. And to the remaining 5 Premier league clubs of 2024, many thanks for doing your best, and good luck for next season.4 points

I think everyone can respect Tolley and his team for giving it a go but they really should call it a day. It'll be sad for Brum fans but you've got to be realistic by saying it's not financially possible to run Speedway at Brum with all of the obstacles in the way. 1. Having to run at Prem level is financial suicide for a club like Birmingham, They'll never have a winning team on track because they're in the KL bracket when it comes to team building where they're left with the riders that nobody else wanted, The Bates family and very well run clubs like BV and Ips will always snap up the big name HL's. 2. Once the average 1-7 starts it's inevitable losing streak it'll result in fans walking away, Even more will walk away in 2025 than ever before with funds being the tightest they've been in years due to Labour trying to push as many English people to the financial brink as possible, Especially the pensioners who as we all know by now make up much of British Speedway's fanbase these days, You just need to see an EUROSPORT meeting to see the average age of a crowd, Therefore nobody is going to be throwing around £20+ for a ticket and a couple of quid for parking plus extra's to watch a bang average side that'll get hammered. 3. Once the above happens, Brum would have to fold mid-season because they won't have to money to continue and it'll just lead to jobs being lost, fans being left disappointed after buying season tickets, Tolley and co being left even more out of pocket while other clubs will have points deducted after having results against Birmingham wiped off the board. All the above is VERY HIGH RISK with NO REWARD to a point where it doesn't make any sense to even risk it.4 points

Sad but sadly inevitable. Hemmed in by the Stadium Owners to a Monday by BSPL to only being able to ride in PL on a Monday by Stadium future that no one can guarantee beyond next September it seems by 3 Football Clubs all attracting near full houses in PL / CL and astonishingly League 1 by a vibrant Test and County Cricket ground by an increasigly diverse populous the vast majority of which have no affinity with Speedway by a Sport with an aging support base whose aging to slow death is only beaten by the Conservative Party Cannot and won't fault the commitment and enthusiasm of the current Promotion or the one that preceded it, nor those who fought so hard to bring the Sport back to the City early this milenium.... Sadly I think this is the end, and Tolley and Co join the growing list who can at least say "better to have tried and failed, than not to have tried at all" at least we've had 3 seasons we may not have otherwise have had!4 points

Nope Belle Vue won the league not Sheffield … the matches are a qualifying system …. Like the gp’s where the top point scorer isn’t necessarily the winner You might not like system but their is only one league winner and that’s Belle Vue3 points

Max Fricke must be one of the most unreliable riders when it comes to big meetings.3 points

A league title decider would draw the same crowd in a normal fairer system.3 points

Yeah definitely if they couldn’t make it work in the championship then they had no hope moving up a division imo, yes they might’ve got a share of the Eurosport money but with that came better riders higher costs flying in the poles every week that’s more expenditure seemed a strange move to go up when he constantly banged on about how much money it was costing in the championship. Seems to mirror Newcastle under grant constantly had the begging bowl out put poor sides out each season and there’s only one way this is going to end.3 points

It is a lot more expensive to attend Speedway these days, so a lot of people really have to think whether it's worth it or not3 points

What a damp squib of a meeting. Was there finally a pass after the 2nd bend in heat 15? Fricke always goes missing in the big meetings. He ensured the Lions had no chance with one win in 8 races. Pathetic. Becker was awful. An absolutely dreadful meeting devoid of passing or action.2 points

well done BV well done to those who sorted the track from a neutral point of view the final has been a damp squib over the two meetings but thats not bv's problem2 points

I felt the same when they tried to dispense with the rule book in ‘22 but we had to make them abide by it and last year when they DID dispense with the rule book and Sheffield won. Rules are a joke and it’s hard to get excited by this sport but well done Aces.2 points

It was really impressive and credit must go to the track staff. It was still partly under water on Sunday so I'm told. Just look at how quick Bewley and Kurtz were, shows the track was really smooth.2 points

The other week it was suggested that the Sheffield was crap and dangerous, though it's been running trouble free meetings for over 50 years This week it's the Leicester track that's crap. A month ago it was the Ipswich track that was crap. Strikes me that the NSS track is the only track that's worth riding on Perhaps they should close all the other tracks and have all teams riding the NSS They would have meetings every night of the week and be rolling in it That should do it.2 points

I must say the track was in absolute mint condition tonight so no excuses on that front, so a massive well done to everybody in getting into shape. Those in attendance will have seen by the standing water still around the stadium how wet it has been.2 points

First of all you can reply to a message by simply clicking on the quote, makes it easier to track conversations rather than random messages appearing not making any sense. Bitter? No if you look at previous posts on other topics I've always said Sheffield are the league winners. So your point is invalid. Congrats on being the play off champions. Belle Vue is a nice club and good fan base. Don't paint a different picture. No bitterness , had a great season supporting the Lions.2 points

Fair play to Belle Vue, they’ve beaten the best 2 teams in the league to do it.2 points

I have been to world finals home and abroad. Been to GPs home and abroad In the 54 years I have followed speedway this must be the most pointless meeting I have ever seen2 points

UK has gradually given up priority race nights including Thursdays as the Polish juggernaut continues to crush all in it's path. May as well just run at championship level with remaibing UK tracks on whatever night they choose.2 points

watering down the product ! its been like that for a long time in speedway . to be honest (i always am) if you take any2 teams out of the championship it would still have the same effect on the champiomship . worky had a few low ish fans attending . but i think you get that at all/most tracks .all we can do is keep supporting Andrew, Steve and the band of loyal people who turn up and put a shift in down at northside to help run the club . its been a joy to have been at the GT areana and derwent park . the meetings have always been good . a few more marras would not go a miss , but it is what it is . roll on 2025 season big shout out to BSN . the meetings are always good and help us fans everyehere to fill the days/weeks when theres nowt ont box . come on the marras.2 points

He was slated by people on here who usually whine at absolutely anything. I thought he was brilliant, and he gave the sport great coverage when working on his other sports like the darts and footy. He was extremely clued up on the sport and knew what he was talking about and his excitement coupled with that made for an excellent commentator. As I stated before, he and Tatum worked great together but Tatum hasn't got it in him to be lead commentator and obviously cannot handle the pressure hence why he makes so many mistakes, mistakes that you wouldn't hear from him before when working alongside Pearson. Looking back, Sky Sports was brilliant for speedway and their coverage of both league racing and GPs was absolutely streets ahead of what we get served up with now. Being in Australia I barely watch anything other than the GPs anymore and that is even when work allows so are usually repeats but I find the overall presentation dull and second rate. Pearson and to a lesser extent Millard could make a dull meeting sound exciting whereas the current crop have the reverse effect and make top meetings seem dull and flat.2 points

The breaking issue is in all good conscience would anybody recommend promoting a speedway club especially at NDL level? A few years ago absolutely and in fact there were some venues that could have been vastly improved without throwing crazy amounts of money at them to generate something quite special (Stoke/Buxton). Today any promotion would be barmy, the initial startup costs, air fence etc are almost prohibitive in themselves and thats prior to being handcuffed by the ruling bodies and penalised at a moments notice. The ruling powers have shot themselves in the foot and its just a shame they didn't start a little higher.2 points

Don't forget that the SCB imposed a fine (suspended) on Kent and threatened to withdraw their license because the Iwade site owner (also a Kent co-promoter) also runs NORA events at his track. - this despite the fact that an SCB board member rode in a NORA event after this Unless that changes from either side, or there is a compromise, I can't see any chance of Kent returning to the NDL at Iwade.2 points

Sad to hear but expected. Fair play to Tolley and co giving it a go but it was never going to work out at Premiership level. You need to have a winning side in order to get fans to turn up and that's never going to happen at Birmingham when you've got big players like the Bates family in the Sport snapping up top riders whilst very well run clubs like BV and Ipswich snap up other quality riders.2 points

Just read it. It's nothing surprising. Club aren't making enough money and need more support. It's great that they aren't throwing in the towel but it feels like a slow closure of the club. Phil Morris should be trying everything in his power to try and get more investors and business's to support Birmingham. It would be a great shame to lose them as I feel they would never come back unless someone had very very very deep pockets. What can we do? Well I'm going to try get down there for the Leicester meetings, every little helps I guess. Fingers crossed they can run next year.2 points

There have always been chances for the use of Iwade and indeed was well supported by fans in 2022 & 2023 however the venture was not supported by the governing bodies and therefore it slipped away. Mildenhall had run consistently at NDL level for a long time and the weekend raceday suited many but inconsistent fixture lists and big gaps in the calendar forced the withdrawal of the side and pursuit of racing at a higher level (stadium permitting). Workington were incorrectly informed that there would be no NDL and therefore stepped away, Berwick realised that with limited local competition and poor local support it wasn't making financial sense so stepped away. Going back slightly further there was the IOW fiasco and all of these events have one thing in common, a governing body who are ruled purely by self business interest rather than looking ahead as custodians of the sport. Most of the current promotions can stand tall and safe in the knowledge that they played their part in the demise of the sport in this country.2 points

I would say Speedway already has a system to stop the same clubs finishing bottom every year, it's called the points limit. This should mean teams start equal each year & the richest club can't sign all the best riders. I see no reason why the bottom clubs should get an extra bonus of first pick of "rising stars"2 points

Just to let everyone know, all that can be done is being done. We have had unprecedented amout of rain this month. Last Fri I pumped off any standing water, Saturday I let it dry , was best to stay off the track, you can do more harm than good if you try and work it while it's to wet. Sunday I worked the track for 6 hours, it was bladed several times, wheeled many times, spun in, then graded, finally packing it for an hour with the lorry, if I knew how to post a pic of how it looked on Sunday I would, it looked really good. Monday and today we have had nothing but rain! My pump has been working since a week last Sunday. Sam has been up today to get any surface water off, horrible job in the wet and cold. As soon as is possible the track will be worked on tomorrow and Thurs, we are trying, very hard !!2 points

Poor team building in the winter is partially responsible for this. Birmingham needed a big hitting nunber 1 and there were options out there.1 point
