Seems to be a lot of angry people on here. It’s only speedway, not life and death. Riders get injured - some over egg it, others perhaps ride when they shouldn’t, it’s always been the way of the world. Some people like watching fast racing which may compromise the ability to overtake, others like watching technical racing and waiting for an error to make the opportunity to pass, each to their own. Don’t think there is any dispute that racing at Owlerton is not as good as it used to be, think it is down to the engines rather than the track, but there is still some cracking racing. Some meetings are better than others - last night maybe wasn’t brilliant, but BV not making a fight of it until Bewley got his bike working after the battle was lost didn’t help. I for one don’t think meetings ever look as good or as exciting in TV as they do in real life and Sheffield probably suffers from that more than most because you can’t get a feel for the speed which (to me) is part of the sport.7 points

Nail on the head, all my friends hate Sheffield because they say it’s boring but I quite enjoy the racing there and seeing the sheer speed they generate. Even when it’s a strung out race. Same at belle Vue. we all wish for 15 heats of incredible speedway but You will never get that. If you get 5 good races out of 15 you’ve done well these days.6 points

Spot on. It's not the GP/Ekstraliga riders who are holding this league together, It's riders like Chris Harris, Richard Lawson, Scott Nicholls etc. They're the riders who keep filling void's in various teams all season.4 points

I think the issue with a clubs commitment is finance based. Clubs like Leicester have long leases on their stadium for exclusive use. Therefore no additional hire charge for an NDL team, where as clubs who are tenants would have to pay an additional hire charge for an NDL fixture. That does not excuse teams like Kings Lynn from not running an NDL team. Also the competitive nature of an NDL meeting is often more entertaining that some of the Championship & Premiership meetings I have watched recently.3 points

Agreed it makes no difference to Belle Vue whether fans travel or not from a financial point of view, but surely it makes sense not to pee off your fan base by allowing them to travel on false pretences ? In all honesty, a win was always going to be a tough ask with your full 7 riders, so knowing you were a man short may have seen some of your fans choose to stay at home. Imagine how disappointed they were to turn up and discover the line up change that could have been announced by your own club 4-5 hours earlier.2 points

Giving up Thursdays so "their riders" would be available, has been a huge negative for the UK.. The UK lost Thursday's and "their riders" are still not available.... Cannot see any benefit whatsoever as crowds haven't "boomed", and "guestfests" are now the norm... The UK has zero leverage to make any changes too...2 points

Or the fact Richie and Chris realise the season is over and said to him it’s not worth pushing yourself if you aren’t ready and just focus on play offs and if you’re good enough Thursday then race.2 points

Whilst he’s not broken any rules in the rulebook he has or is going to break a forum rule that’s in these simpletons head due to him being an Ace. It could be any illogical notion that they fixate on at the time. No facts, links, credibility but it keeps them happy for a bit until the next mind bogglingly stupid idea pops into their spacious brains. The stupidity of speedway fans is only surpassed by their continued desire to confirm it on social media.2 points

I agree, he's only been registered on the forum 5 minutes yet he's posting like he's been on here for years. Probably yet another with more than one nom de plume.🙂2 points

In general I’ve had riders who have knocked me off or shut the door or have been ruthless but it’s the nature of the game, I can’t say anyone was dangerous, there are some who ride above their talent levels and tend to crash a lot but they are not intentionally dangerous2 points
-
Who's taking the pee,Basso was still injured but Poland basically saying you ride,a bit like Brady really. But Poland pay the big bucks so riders will reluctantly ride when not fully fit when told for fear of being dropped.2 points

A bit harsh ! Imo Bart may push the boundaries on some occassions NP just bulldozed everything in his way regardless of the consequences and the cost to other riders .2 points

Sheffield is definitely a track thaf, as a spectacle, serves up the raw nature of the sport ie "speed".. TV never makes the spectacle look good though unless you have two riders racing together, as the speed that they are going at then becomes more "visible" and appreciative... When races get spread out at Sheffield like the majority do, (as happens at pretty much all tracks), the speed element, (on TV), doesn't cross over, hence it can look predictable and boring... I love watching Kurtz at the NSS flying around the boards even when 30m in front of anyone else, but when watching on TV, it doesn't generate the same reaction.. Sheffield has a similar feel to it, but, with less racing lines to make up ground when behind...2 points

But probably not as early as Belle Vue did. Football teams don't leave it to the home team to announce both sides, they put their own team sheets on social media. Personally, I didn't care who was riding for you, but I'm sure some of your own fans would have liked to have known before setting off as it was obviously going to have an impact on your chances, so they may have decided to stay home and save the petrol and admission money.2 points

If the Stars are running next year and 2025 is anything like this year, you will see Lawson at Lynn. He’ll be riding for you most weeks as a guest when whoever you’ve signed gets p*ssed off with Buster. Without dropping into anorak mode and trawling the stats, is this not Lawson’s best ever season in British speedway? Outside of the three British GP riders, on current form I would suggest he is the next go to man.1 point

Find a post of mine where I have mentioned any other Belle Vue rider past or present apart from Kurtz.1 point

If you choose to believe it’s the exact same then knock your self out and enjoy it. It’s not. They have completed foreign league meetings whilst Brady has not. Failing to acknowledge that important point makes your actions transparent. Your opinion of FIM participants whilst injured disgusts me but it is what it is. The fact that Brady was in hospital on Monday afternoon with breathing problems whilst being diagnosed with broken rids and all you could do was lump him in with these come day go day Johnnie’s is beyond words. Enjoy every day is my motto and you’re certainly doing that. Grim!1 point

Bonuses for winning things reduced? Up front payments, or pro rata part thereof, needing to be paid back? More than five fans on the internet moaning at you? .... You don't Riss off your fans in Poland... And riders will want places next season, and well beyond if you are Basso's age, so you don't want to get a bad rep for not following their instructions, unless maybe of course you are "irreplaceable", but there are not many of them...1 point

this is what i dont get, there is no one thats not in the 1-7 at lodz that is better than basso so even if he stood upto them and say im not riding he wouldnt be dropped, he would be straight back in when fit, so i do blame the riders for taking the piss when they wont stand upto the clubs1 point

I might of posted this before but my first and only encounter with Roman was at Sheffield, I was at no7 I think for Oxford ? in as a guest and it was at the start of my career,I remember him staring at me over the pits, I was a nobody but I guess at that point he doesn’t know that,he just sees me a new threat,he just kept looking which was intimidating as I knew exactly who he was and his reputation, think it was in my second ride I was off gate one and him off gate 2, as soon as the tapes went up he just turned left putting me on the grass, I guess looking back he was just stamping his mark on me so as not to go near him not that I was at that level, when I heard of his mysterious death I imagined in my head that he was in some sort of fight on his own against 300 men in some foreign war and giving a good account of himself too, certainly a character and not too bad on a bike either1 point

They need to review this rule as long as a certificate is produced, everyone is ill sometimes?1 point

I do very much agree with that - Speedway as a live spectacle is never replicated from your armchair, what really doesn't help is all the stupid camera angles and producers trying to be clever, I often preferred the old videos from the 80s-90s that often showed the meeting from just one or perhaps two camera angles. TV speedway production is often very poor and clearly not run by people who know and care about the sport. I think BSN are probably about the best when it comes to the TV / streaming work and thats because they are fans! You are also right about BV being bobbins - Bewley and Cook excepted, you would think BV would be better at Sheffield but there you go.1 point
-
I don’t know about Bewley, but that is classic Danny King & it’s why the fans give him such a hard time coupled with his inability to team ride.1 point

Then it will stay in the doldrums as that day will never come... Similar to the guestfest nonsense which forms an integral part of the operating model, what you could do, (and get away with), 25 years ago, and beyond, you simply cannot get away with now, as instant news, (and instant feedback), holds you to account... It won't change... As if it could it surely would have done so by now, especially given the clear and obvious requirement to do so for such a large length of time... You only have to go "back in time" on here to see exactly the same brand damaging, adverse crowd impacting issues, getting commented on season in, season out, time and time again, to see that those who run the sport cannot do it any other way... Hence the only way isn't upwards for it...1 point

As there’s no thread for it yet, will put it here. Ben Cook and Connor Mountain guesting for the Stars in the Sheffield meeting.1 point

Kurtz just posted on Facebook two cracked ribs chest area breathing difficulties taking a week off hopes to ride for rybnik at the weekend?1 point

Not sure why you keep going on about trolling? You told me I was trolling the other week when you couldn't be arsed to search out the details of Mr Kurtz's previous misdemeanours and then I provided them to you. I've said it before and I'll say it again, don't have a problem with Kurtz being injured, I do have a problem with inconsistent application of the rules and non- information from clubs in what had supposed to be a professional sport. If Speedway had any kind of serious press interest it'd be sunk on day 1, probably best to stay in the doldrums until the promoters can get their houses in order.1 point

Brady gave it a go and still gets called, you wonder why riders don't bother when all some do is moan, you think he went to hospital for day trip out lol.1 point

Fair enough, Arnie & Mr Lion. For what it's worth, Leicester deserve great credit for being one of the dwindling number of clubs who are committed to NDL racing. As we all know, there are quite a few clubs who see themselves as 'big' who can't be bothered to do so.1 point

Congratulations to you and the rest of the team, as a full pass holder i think BSN is a great product and excellent value for money1 point

Reality check, if the attendance was indeed 29000 or thereabouts, that's 3 times the capacity of Belle Vue, even with the maximum additional stands. The parking and local facilities are not acceptable. There would be the same issues with accomodation prices as there are in Cardiff, as there are anywhere that's holding a major event. There are always geographical and transport issues for some no matter where you hold it. Finally, at Cardiff, It's guaranteed to take place regardless of the weather thanks to the roof. some people need to give their head a shake and look at the bigger picture instead of this fixation with 'It's got to move to Belle Vue'1 point
