  1. If there are enough blank weeks, people find other things to do. Gradually, they take priority. People like rhythms. Speedway is just too sporadic for some now. Or they just don't know when it's on!

  2. And people still comment negatively on the weather we get in Manchester... Norfolk seems to be akin to the Amazon Rain Forest.... Buying a brolly business down there when I retire to top up my pension..

  3. I'm sure it's not the only reason but the name of the event hardly attracts attention. It's effectively a World Cup final but 'Speedway of Nations' would mean absolutely nothing to anyone who's not already interested.

  4. If Buster walks away from speedway I hope he doesn't go into weather forecasting.

  5. Apart from a drizzle at 3-30 for an hour it's not rained. Looking like it's another meeting that could have been on.

  6. You seem to be a very very angry individual. Every single post you make comes across as you shouting and being argumentative whilst running around with steam coming out of your ears. Calm down ffs.

  7. Or maybe they just enjoy it?

  8. Leading question for me is will they even complete there fixtures ?

  9. KL are never going to complete all of the rearranged fixtures before the cut off date. You'll have to run meetings with a threat of rain at some stage because this is British weather after all.

  10. Thought that was the most relevant bit lol

  11. And that's what you took from that post?

  12. And definitely will upset season ticket holders and sponsors alike . I’m 35 minutes from the track and there was drizzle 4 pm ish but it’s been dry since 6 pm - fans are getting fed up with these constant call offs - hate to think how the riders feel as well

  13. I wouldn't know that. I don't venture far from my compost corner

  14. Thoroughly enjoyed the final. Great racing and great atmosphere. Shame to see the temporary stand go to waste but was to be expected with the pricing structure. I opted for the South Stand- great view of the action. Can't see how they can justify £20 more for an open top stand on the bend which was further from the action. Either way a great meeting and a great win for team GB!

  15. Ice hockey at Braehead seems to be one thing. People like routine. Football clubs might not be at home every week, or exactly every second week, but they also don't go five weeks without a home match. Except for Dundee, of course.

  16. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/u12b4ht3f#?date=2024-07-15 This is exactly my point about unreliable weather forecasts. The Met Office this morning for Ipswich had heavy rain from around 3. That’s now changed within a couple of hours on the actual day! Now saying a shower at 3, and the heavy stuff not due until between 9 and 10. It’ll no doubt change again by this afternoon. Edit: It’s literally changed AGAIN since I was typing out the post. LOL.

  17. Speedway is cheap in the uk IMO We just been away to “the seaside”. We enjoyed an ice cream cone each, just a single blob. It was very nice (cherry flavour with slices of cherry too). £9 for the two (and kept an eye on the seagulls). Stayed a few night in a 7 bedroomed B&B, nothing cheaper than £75 per night, we paid £100 per night and was very happy, lovely place. Snack lunch in a corner cafe near the seafront, just a panini and fresh salad, very nice, cup of coffee each after. £28 for two. It’s today’s cost of enjoying yourself on a break. (I also got a £25 fixed price car park ticket that I appealed against and won). Today, speedway tracks are closing down, have been for a long time, some due to environmental issues, or land development, but some because not enough money is being made to make a track a viable proposition. Up go the prices a quid or two and “foul” is shouted by the fans. Speedway is a technical motorised sport, and costly to compete, riders travelling hundreds of miles each week, often this means it’s there only means of making a living. Lots of costs associated with running a stadium. All needs to be paid for, if the fans don’t/wont the track closes down. There are those on here today who remember Wembley in the 60’s/70’s with a 80,000+ crowd. That was then, 50 or 60 years ago! 50 or 60 years ago. At times I can’t get used to today’s prices when compared to how things were in the good ole days, but life has moved on. I’m careful what I spend money on, but sometimes get caught “by the moment” and buy something I later wish I hadn’t. That’s how it goes sometimes. As for today, I can’t afford, nor do I want to travel 65 miles return to watch Belle Vue. I cannot afford all the subscription channels that may show all I want to watch. So I am happy to pay for a sub channel that gives me all the GP’s, events such as SON, British championship, some British league matches and a few others such as world championship Challenge. That cost me about the same as 4 admission prices to British Premiere league matches (for one person). Would be nice to be there in person, but apart from costs as a pensioner there’s the other reason of me or the wife not always feeling too good.

  18. Leicester literally have an article on their website saying the two promotions have been in contact and have agreed that there is little product of racing, and as has been said several times the authorities have to ok it after Lynn had their wrists slapped. Just like the late call off the other week, all three parties are clearly in agreement.

  20. I love the way British speedway more or less shuts down in the Summer as they are worried that crowds will be low… then reschedule for October when it’s so cold only 4 men and a dog show up and it gets called off at heat 10. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

  21. 1993,'Wolverhampton v Belle Vue... Wolves needed a draw, and the Aces needed the win to be Champions.. No play offs then, just a league that ended with the top team winning.... The Aces were 8 points down, with only a few races left, and only that win on the night would do... The four of us there that night all agreed to watch one more race and then get out quickly, so we didn't have to watch the mullet headed Wolves fans (in all their 70's denim clothes), celebrate... Then the Aces got a 0-5.. Then suddenly a couple of races later, were one point up, with just one race left .. And then Bobby Ott flew from the tapes, with Jason Lyons riding shotgun, whilst Peter Karlsson did his best to spear him at the end of every straight, eventually doing so, lap 3, which let Henka Gustafsson through too... But neither could catch "Bob".... There must easily have been 800 and more Aces fans there that night (how times change), and the lady in the " Wolves Megastore" was particularly unimpressed when, as we finally left, I asked her if she had any "Wolves 1993 Champions" car stickers.. I think her face, and the pile of unopened boxes behind the wallpaper paste table used as a "display", told me the answer...... Big crowd, great atmosphere, and the right result... Just like the other night at the SON....

  22. It's looking like Buster is happy to finish the season without completing all fixtures. Might save him a few quid, but won't enhance his already poor reputation, IF this proves to be the outcome.

  23. Well how lucky were we with the weather, someone remembered to say their prayers. Raining when we arrived and raining when we left….. dry in between……. Perfect!!! Great show put on by all and thoroughly enjoyed watching Dan, he made it look so easy, real class

  24. Could not agree with @Bojangles any more. I'm sure Starke & Roynon enjoy riding Speedway and as long as someone is willing to pay them to ride, why should they retire?

  26. No it isn’t, there is nothing in a speedway engine today that wasn’t in a 1930s one the materials are better, unlike other sports which are much vastly more expensive using injection systems and ECUs but as I’ve been banging on for years speedway doesn’t need half the BS that riders use today like the karger ignition which put the price up for no gain for the sport and then the expect the fan to pay for it, on the SON something is only worth as much as folk are prepared to pay for it and clearly the crowd showed it wasn’t worth what discovery think it’s worth, a good indication worth’s at the moment was the speedway auction at Ledbury last week, a lot of the bikes didn’t fetch half what they are worth and this is the case for classic cars too. Speedway needs a reality check to where it stands in society. The SON was despite the weather an exiting well run event and imo was the best sporting event in this country this year but such a shame that nobody saw it

  29. not too sure if this has been mentioned before . what about having a home meeting pne week and the following week have an away meeting with another club ? clubs would prob get 2/3 meetings at nome a month . this would/could put an end to those 3/4 weeks without haveing a home meeting . the season could be streatched out to fit in cup meetings and other stuff . just a thought .

  30. They at least waited until the morning of the meeting to get a more accurate forecast, which is the sensible thing to do.

  33. Thoroughly enjoyed my time in Manchester, giving the weather I thought the racing was good, especially Saturday, obviously having a Team GB win help somewhat. Much has been made about ticket pricing, and I agree that for the four meetings last week it was on the expensive side, I`ve long been of the opinion that less equals more where if you keep ticket prices to a sensible level you should sell more tickets, this goes for SON but especially for the Cardiff SGP. It was disappointing that for the Final there were empty seats in the main stand and the temporary stand on bends three and four not even half used. I hope that Belle Vue will be used for more big meetings in the future be it SON, SWC or SGP and I look forward to attending.

  34. Surely you're not saying Buster would do anything underhanded.

  35. Presuming this is not re-arranged for the next couple of weeks, this postponement does give Chris a little more breathing room to bring in a replacement for Jason...

  36. Why does the SWC & SON have to be staged over one week at one track? For a few years now the crowds before the final have been poor, surely partly because the hosts get seeded to the final, which can't help the crowds for at least one of the semi finals. So either host it at more tracks, home fans may swell the crowd at their "big match" or do what they did 30 years ago. Hold qualifiers earlier in the season and the final as a one-off event?

  37. So Leicester called Buster up and said "we don't fancy it"? Come on! It doesn't matter whether they "agreed" to it or not, it's the home promotion's call. I've long since stopped believing anything that comes out of King's Lynn. The Twitter post even says they've been beaten by the weather again... they haven't, they've called the match of before any weather has arrived.

  38. You seem to have a real bee in your bonnet about this......I expect the idea was that Lambert would be more comfortable round the kerb than Bewley and Dan probably better from the back at BV as it's his home track. It's a team event and the idea is you use riders to their strengths to get the job done, that's exactly what GB did and it worked. I keep reading this and find it inconceivable that the two riders didn't have more of an input than the TM.

  39. They wouldn’t sack him as he is an up and coming rider who would be picked up by a rival club straight away. Threats from different countries should not allow federation rules to be broken, regardless of money. His Polish team would have known about the clash at the start of the season. As a Brit, a 30 day ban should be the order of the day for withholding his services. Harsh but stops young riders chasing the money rather than the team he should be riding for.

  45. If there are blank weeks, people find other things to do? Personally, I've never understood this argument. I actually think this is a throwback to when speedway promoters shared greyhound stadiums (some still do of course) and they would see a sign outside saying something like "greyhound racing here every Tuesday and Saturday". Speedway promoters wished they could put up a similar sign for our sport. Do football fans have this problem? They just keep an eye on their club's fixture list on turn up when the matches are on. I've never found it difficult to do that for speedway.
