With 14 different nations over two nights racing, it’s logical the standard of the teams/racing will differ. In their own way the excitement caused by the “lesser” teams matched that of the more proficient teams. Both sets were willing to have a go. Of course the more established riders had probably a lot ,ore experience of the BV track, but it was noticeable that the riders from the lesser nations how they learned quickly to adapt to BVs racing many different racing lines, and this gave an unexpected level of excitement, maybe not lasting the whole four laps, but they took it to the more experienced riders and had a real go. Tuesday night some on here were implying the lesser nations shouldn’t even have been at BV, sort of out of their depth, adding nothing, get rid. Wrong. It was Speedway of Nations, and in total 15 nations will have been represented by the end of the final match. That’s a pretty good representation considering how speedway struggles to exist in some countries, and the uk can be included in that statement. The logistics of getting 15 teams together (then add the SON2 entourage), accommodation (it’s more than 2 riders to look after), transportation, visas, track staff, “back room” staff, the whole lot could easily turn into a nightmare, some riders will have machines in this country, others won’t so overland travel would be necessary. The time, money, effort needed to organise the show must have been immense, perhaps even beyond comprehension Unfortunately, the money that seems to be available from sponsors (advertisers) in Poland just isn’t available elsewhere at this moment in time. I just pleased that some “body” decided there is a need to put on a show like we have had over the last 2 days, with more to come on a Friday and Saturday. Some interesting suggestions come forward on this forum though, particularly that of taking the qualifiers (Tuesday/wednesday) to tracks around the country, though this year the meetings may have got rained off unlike BV. Lots of positives from this week, and not finished yet.6 points

Rather not hand pick guests for the duration to be honest. We need to get a rider in, get him a team suit and crack on with a proper Witches 1-7 again.5 points

Update from Tate on Facebook. Update After a tough first week I am doing a lot better now. I have been up on my feet doing a little bit of walking. The doctors are very happy with my progress and I hope to be out of hospital by the end of this week. Also another injury added to the list I have torn my Gracilis mussel off my pelvis but they have said it won't need surgery and should heal on its own and be back to normal in a few months. Obviously still in quite a bit of pain but feel like I’m getting stronger every day. When I am released from hospital I will need to come in every 2 days until the doctors are confident we can clean and change the dressings ourselves. Then we come back for the 6 week check up. Hopefully by then I will get the all clear and I will be able to sit on my ass for the 20+ hour flight back home to Australia. Thank you to everyone for your messages and thanks again for those who have come up to visit me. Getting the news there is going to be NO long term damage is a relief … bring on next season. Doctors report 6,7,8,9 left lateral rib fracture - will heal by themselves Fractures of the spine T5 T6 T7 T8 T9 bottom of the rib cage -they are compressed however the ribs will brace them and hold them in place so they would expect they will heal perfectly fine L2 L3 L4 lumber part of the spine wings on the side are broken off - will heal by themselves with time No damage to the spinal cord thankfully Where the Chain adjuster went into his left cheek ( buttocks) -Doctors said you actually got quite lucky it only went through the subcontainious tissues without involving the muscles. The exit wound has been stitched shut The main concern is making sure the large entry wound doesn't get infected as it heals. This will take the longest to heal as we would like it to heal on its own. The latest MR scan of the pelvis showed up a couple of aductor muscles have been torn at the pelvis they are the muscles that bring your legs together these are subtotal (like a very nasty sprain) and they will heal up in time The worrying one or most damage was done to the Gricillus muscle It is torn through and through and totally torn off of the pelvis the TNO surgeon said they won’t operate at this point. They may want to go in and rejoin it but he thinks it’s highly unlikely3 points

Yes they can make changes- has to be from the original squad, unless it’s an injury replacement and then it can even be from outside the 5 man squad.2 points

That's not something common to Speedway, there's only really PL Football that can fill a stadium. We're often told that events are "sold out" only to see many empty seats when it's on TV, F1 being a prime example. We were told by the commentators that the Snooker World Champs was sold out, again many empty seats, even for the final! Look at Wimbledon this year, many empty seats. Maybe Speedway could do with a "Royal Box" as for some reason the organisers of these events seem to think that there's a benefit to having a load of free-loading celebs in attendance or perhaps just lower the ticket prices. My 4 day ticket works out at £30.75 per meeting, which I'm happy to pay but it's not family friendly... for a "family" sport.2 points

spot on , thats why i paid for all four meetings, i feel ive had my moneys worth so far and cant see it getting any worse, in fact ive also watched on tv and will always prefer to see it live. luckily for me I'm only 20 mins away so had to take advantage of that, roll on tomorrow and Saturday,2 points

That was how to run a meeting. Two hours, done deal. Well done to all involved.2 points

Great effort from track staff and riders and all involved in getting this meeting on. Speedway U K needs the NSS and it is impressive. The aerial views show what a great facility it is.2 points

It’s always been a normal 7 team SON 2 with 8 teams of suitable good riders to warrant being in it. It hasn’t happened before where the team finishing last the year before are the actual host nation and have to be in the meeting( no crowd otherwise) If another country suddenly produces good enough riders to warrant inclusion then the FIM have a decision to make.1 point

Something to do with his estranged wife and got the children working for one of the sponsors I think1 point

Also working for the Sun he may have sold his morals away. For me I don't have an issue with the photos, it was the timing that they were published. They could have waited until Tate was at least off the track and he had given the go ahead for them to be used.1 point

Eurosport are NOT showing any of this weeks SON/SON 2 live this week- for the umpteenth time. It is live on Discovery + and we have a separate thread for the meeting.1 point
-
I presume Eurosport has no charge to watch….if that is the case, how does the setting up and all the technical stuff required get paid for? And why is Discovery+ a specialist channel? It’s a massive channel that covers a multitude of sports (well over 50 sports), plus loads of other non sport topics. My £6.99 per month (and it is a monthly contract, not tied in for 12month) if I just watched speedway is good value, but I watch with interest probably half dozen sports that have wheels, mostly 2 wheels. Apart from BBC licence fee, Discovery+ is the only subscription I pay. I went off Sky a few years ago and BT couple years ago.1 point

No point in signing any newcomer to the UK that's not named Zmarzlik. Foxhall isn't the easiest track to ride and any newcomer would be at a disadvantage away from Home when seeing a track for the first time and you can't afford that considering you'll face top opposition in the crucial meetings. Musielak has to be the priority, If a deal can't be done then a Guest is the way to go because you can just book track specialists for Home meetings, Whoever finishes 4th is no threat whatsoever because they're all poor sides, Then for the Play-Offs you can book Lindgren or Fricke to guest if Oxford pip Leicester to 4th.1 point

Enjoyed last night a lot more than Tuesday, even with two run away sides it was a great meeting overall. I probably would have enjoyed it more being there as I'd have actually seen all of the overtakes/close calls etc but unfortunately that's what we've come to expect from Discovery/Eurosport on the watching front! Pollestad looks a great talent and the Latvian, while not beating anyone of real note, looked very handy - could he replace Tate Z? Not sure why USA went with Nicol/Manzieres and not Lightcap for the experience. Can teams make changes before the final?1 point

Ivacic rode regularly in the Polish third tier last season finishing above Steve Worrall and Josh Pickering. My concern is that he really doesn't seem to be racing regularly. He has potential, but I still find the dropping of a promising 17 year old for 36 y.o. Garrad (even if he has done spectacularly well for us at Oxford this year) hard to stomach.1 point

They were in a position where they had to put a team together when everyone else had started well ahead of them.. The averages given to their top two at the time were more to help them look competitive, and get decent guests, than actually reflect on their actual capability... Getting Brum to the tapes at the start of the season was the major priority for all, and they were never going to say "this team is wooden spoon material" in press releases, even if most followers of the sport could clearly see they were.. Birmingham simply doesn't have enough people interested in Speedway enough to turn up each meeting, similar to a fair few other places... Fair play to all involved for giving it a go and keeping it going...1 point
