So Antti Vuolas wins a race, gets back to his pit bay….. and puts his glasses on!7 points

Also people need to remember Garrad may not score more than Pijper, but he was signed because they expect Ivacic to score more than Starke. Can't make one change without the other due to the points limit. If it was a single change Garrad for Pijper I could understand the outcry7 points

Jack’s home average is too good to let go. It’s unfortunate timing given Ace has just had his best week of the season, but the trouble is, they’ve been looking at team options for weeks, and this was likely done before those improved performances. It looks harsh now, but if Ace had continued his previous form for the last week, it wouldn’t look nearly as harsh - he’d hardly beaten an opposition rider all season. Before last week, I’d have (reluctantly) said, for Ace’s long term benefit, it was probably better to have him focus on the NDL where he can do well, rather than continually get beaten and lose confidence in the Championship. Awkward timing, but removing the emotion from the decision, I see why it’s been done. I’m sure fans will be split down the middle about whether it’s right or not, but if they’d done nothing, they’d be taking heat from the other 50%.7 points

I do enjoy these qualifiers, it’s riders we don’t get to see a lot of,although there were no surprises it was I thought an enjoyable meeting I just wish they could get a crowd in to see it6 points

Think it is too elongated an Event.Too many weak Teams just making up numbers.A wet week will case a lot problems.Pricing also an issue.4 Team format much better. IMO.6 points

Finns are entertaining. You shouldn't be allowed to change countries once you've ridden for your National side. Stupid.5 points

All these riders are going for the win so why not enjoy what is on show. We all know that Poland are expected to win but so what. Take you back to the 70’s and the Daily Mirror sponsored international meetings and it was enough to see riders you would not normally see on British tracks. Maybe if the UK at a certain level engaged in test matches with the likes of Italy, France and Germany instead of chasing utopia when in reality test matches against the top nations are not going to happen.5 points

I find it very hard to make any negative comment about Nigel Tolley as a man and benefactor of the Club I've got no inside knowledge of how much money he has put in, but adding the dots, it would not be a surprise if it was north of £400k. So to those who moan and whinge I'd ask, would you put £400k in ??, if you had it. Now there are the analogies of "only fools parting with money" and the usual suspects will attack him for that, but without him the Club would have died when David and Peter Mason left, and why did they leave, hey ho....losing too much money. Other Clubs have similarly suffered and other people have lost money trying to save Speedway Clubs. If there is one criticism of Nigel it is that he is not great at PR and hasn't got the right people around him. That's partially valid in terms of his PR skills in my opinion but in terms of having "the right people around him" , whilst he hasn't chosen well, or inherited well, the biggest problem lies with the BSPL who insist that (the ever dwindling list) of failures and hangers on, aka "Promoters" who have and continue to make a living out of Speedway, have to be maintained as the are "experienced admistrators". I know everyone will again scapegoat Laurence, I won't ever attack his hard work and dedication to the cause and again, without him and the fact that he sought out and found Nigel when the Club was literally bordering on extinction, but i'm sure he and Nigel will be looking back and considering what went wrong. The Site Owners decision to leave the Club with only a "Monday option" can't also be forgotten, that forced the hand to go up to the PL, that creates massive extra cost and despite some TV money it was never going to bridge the gap. Trying to pay more out than comes in is atypical of the vast majority of UK Speedway Clubs and how many are actually self sufficient, Poole / Ipswich / Sheffield at a push......others are reliant on individuals like Glasgow and Oxford, others may be on Sponsorship like Leicester, but the whole model is utterly BROKEN. Shocking too the hear Mark Lemons comments about Belle Vue and the future of the NSS being reliant on bigger Crowds for Major Events. Is there a Plan B- is there a realistic option. May be look at IOW and Barry Bishop, he's created and found a niche that works for him, full credit to him, but would that model work at PL + CL clubs who have to pay massive rental costs?. Look at last weekend as the perfect example of the malaise in relation to the past. NOT ONE Saturday Fixture / Sunday Fixture other than NDL as the one scheduled Fixture was cancelled because a rider went on holiday and very few others can make weekends pay, as all the best riders that draw the crowds are filling their pockets in Europe. I sadly cannot see a sustainable future for Birmingham Speedway if the only option is Monday night in the PL. Too many counter attractions in terms of Sport and Entertainment, millions still seeing mortgages and rents rising ; and in reality, how can you budget to break even on a hard core of 500 people ??... I thank Nigel and Laurence for their efforts and hard work, I thank Sam for his days as a rider, he certainly ain't a team manager but more than anything for those, especially the likes of Brian Buck, Joe McLaughlin etc who have put their lives and souls in to trying to save the Club and to reenergise it not that long ago, I feel desperately sad that we seem to have arrived at the end of a cul-de-sac that on this occasion, there is no way out of.5 points

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Why on earth would he save his best engines for your beloved Poole rather than Birmingham? He couldn’t give a toss what position the clubs are in in their respective leagues. He’ll 100% be on more pounds per point for Birmingham than he will for Poole down in the Championship. As much as you’d love to think it, he’s not prioritising Poole over Birmingham.5 points

Daniil Medvedev has played and won at Wimbledon today. What's the difference with Sayfutdinov & Laguta etc. Tarasenko and Emil ride over here. Seems ok to ride in league matches but not international. A bit hypocritical if I'm honest. They don't stop being Russian in the league. Appreciate they'd have to ride under a blank flag with no anthems etc.4 points

SON, WTC, SGP, SEC, all diminished by the absence of Emil, Artem and others. I understand the reasoning and need for sanctions, but totally unfair on innocent riders.4 points

There were mannequins for sale at the speedway auctions on Saturday that they could of purchased to sit in the seats4 points

If we didn’t make any changes by the time Jack smiths new ave came in then we would have been stuck with the same team for the rest of the season ,changes had to be made and every rider knows it’s a numbers game does it make us stronger only time will tell4 points

They will have burnt their bridges with the Pijpers and the younger one coming through looks pretty useful . I despair sometimes .4 points

It was merely an observation but why does everyone take it so seriously. As a sport it can entertain but frankly each country has its issue and the UK is not exempt. Someone pointed out that at this level of international speedway something was stupid. At a lower level which can be UK speedway the descriptive term of stupid can also apply. It was simply concurring and as simple as that. WTF is the issue with forum contributors when someone makes a general comment. No wonder the sport is in dire straits, crap promoters and overly sensitive followers.3 points

Birmingham had one chance this year, to beg pete adams to come and manage the side, a prolific manager, knows how to win meetings . They didnt and have ended up with the same mess theyve had the last 2-3 yrs, tolley. rogers and sam, what a treble that is .3 points

I would have said so... Many predicted it.. Bartek riding there I presume made those in charge of the event think that it would stimulate some interest.. However. You get to see him ride every week on Polish TV, and once a fortnight in the GP's, so hardly any "mystique"... Too many meetings in one place means not many will visit from elsewhere for all four due to the overall costs, and to expect Aces fans to fork out for 4 meetings is folly... Wroclaw had the same issue with a lack of crowd for the qualifiers... Should be two meetings, one final over two days... Charge £60 for both days, £35 for one.. I reckon 6,000 or so would have paid sixty quid... And only one night in a hotel if travelling from elsewhere.. Some decent marketing would have helped though... Did all the money go on a stand that won't get used till Saturday?2 points

Hard to sell something not many have any interest in.. Would have been better seeding GB, Poland, and Aussie to the final and running a qualifier somewhere else and then running a two day final with 7 decent teams. The vast majority of fans there were alwaays going to be Aces fans given you have four meetinngs in a week.. Some local marketing may have helped too...2 points

So you wanted an international meeting, live on worldwide tv called off in advance based on your ropey weather forecast? There has been no rain since 12.30, it’s been very warm and breezy afternoon and I’m sure they will be watering track before the start.2 points

Because practise was at 1pm. What point of practising on wet track, it’s not rained since 12.30 and been very warm all afternoon.2 points

Discovery+ made such a big thing to start with re Speedway but as you say it's not on their Guide which is ridiculous you have yo know about Speedway then go to "All Sports" then scroll down to "Speedway" to find it. Surely the way to bring in new viewers to Speedway is for the guide to list it then people might think "I've not heard of that I'll have a look when it's live"2 points

Would serve the FIM right if this was rained off. Russia's exclusion from this event is a disgrace.2 points

so much for eurosport, and discovery + big promotion push begining of season,,,its a joke ,nothing on eurosport tv guide ,and on discovery + tonight it shows last weeks oxford match ,the only people who will see speedway on tv are speedway fans who pay just to watch there sport,, the general puplic see sport on itv, sky, tnt. and if you want highlights its hidden away at midnight on quest,,, so people who have eurosport as part of there package ,wont even know its on this week,, tv as done nothing for speedway only show small crowds on wet monday night when nobody wants to go out,,2 points

Hope not! I'm coming up for a league meeting not a 1st leg of the BSN semi. Put ur suggestion into Room 101 !2 points

The self imposed no foreigners rule has lasted half a season, and would likely have been far less were suitable riders available. As mentioned we've now possibly alienated Team Pijper. Stene looks a real prospect as well.2 points

You know as well as I do that Poole fans see things very differently from normal speedway fans …. To think a rider would have his best equipment for a lower paying league is just plain dumb……by all means he might prefer certain tracks to others but to think for one second he prioritises Poole is a joke2 points

In all the 53 years I've been following B'ham, I can't remember the set-up being this damaging! Tolley for his financial backing and Brennan for his performances this season, are the only two credible members of the Club. Lose any of the others that are associated and they wouldn't be missed! First move....get rid of Rogers and Sam.... Needs to happen before the next home match for B'ham to have any chance of surviving this season and beyond!2 points

Tom’s put 0.6 on his average this season. He had a bad meeting guesting for Ipswich and an unfortunate crash tonight. Other than that, he’s been scoring well. Some people just expect too much.2 points

The riders are only part of the brum problem . The bigger issue is the wretched management , appalling team building behind the scenes and as bad a team manager as you'll get in any sport .2 points
