  1. Funny what winning can do for you. Getting beat by 10 points at home to Ipswich (track dangerous and riders not wanting to ride). Winning by 10 points (my boys are ready to continue and Birmingham call it off). Seems strange.

  2. No disrespect to other track announcers but Edwin was really the best, missed his voice in 2023. RIP Edwin.

  3. If Tolley comes back for more next year then he should be knighted for it, The whole set up at Brum from top to bottom is beyond Amateur. The track prep is as inconsistent as inconsistent gets, Literally never consistent to a point where the Home riders will never get to grips with it. The team is utterly dreadful, Sedgmen & Lampart as a 3 & 4 pairing at Premiership level say's it all. The manager (Sam) simply hasn't got a clue what he's doing (No Tac Sub used tonight) I wouldn't let him be the manager at my club even if he offered to do it for free. The ownership are delusional, Tolley seems to think he's built a team that should be competitive, I said in the winter that Tolley running his mouth would come back to haunt him big time.

  5. With clubs having so few matches, it's odd they haven't / can't / won't organise the fixtures better. But that relies on clubs working together, something that seems to be lacking at times.

  6. https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/peterborough-united/broadcasting-legend-known-for-peterborough-united-and-speedway-coverage-passes-away-4693737 Promoters come and promoters go, riders come and go, but the one constant during my time of attending Peterborough and King's Lynn was Edwin Overland. Although he had to stand down latterly, did he not come back to announce the final race at Peterborough? Always used to build the tension when reading out the race result of a close finish while everybody around me had their pens hovering above their programme's

  7. A nice cheap pay day for Tolley, which I'm sure has absolutely nothing to do with it being called off.

  8. Seeing as the paying public would have only got a £3 refund if it had been called off before heat 8, they probably did them a favour. They don't have to pay for another ticket now!

  9. It just goes from bad to worse for Brummies... no doubt the excuses will be coming thick and fast from Tolley but to be at heat 10 having not used your tac sub when it's in danger of being called off is ridiculous.

  10. Will he be parading his World Championship trophies to the Brummies faithful at the interval?

  16. Very sad news. Such a professional and he always remained impartial at both King’s Lynn and Peterborough. RIP Edwin.

  17. And end with... "We need to keep the regs as ambiguous as possible so we all can interpret them as we would like when we need to make changes, that way we always get to do what we want"... "PS. And no one takes what we do too seriuosly anyway, do they? So, just as long as we get reasonably competitive meetings on each night, all is ok"...

  18. Illness is 7 days suspension but a racing injury you can return when fit/or when Poland beckons.

  19. Glad it’s hammering down. If any club should be afforded some leeway its Workington. First year in the second league, had their star rider injured in horrific circumstances earlier this week and clearly the place to be for up and coming youngsters. were they not also running speedway/sport evenings in the gazebo before they were burgled by the lovely caravan folk. this forum is mental, club does all the right things and gets hammered for rightly calling a meeting that probably would have cost them thousands, early, and everyone’s ready to stick the knife in.

  20. Whatever individual track loyalties are, I cannot believe that any true speedway fans on here are not 100% supportive of what the Panthers Consortium are trying so hard to achieve!

  22. It will be a sad day if Birmingham is lost to the sport. It seems that they have many issues and in today’s climate it has to be win at all cost to maintain support and to be languishing in the bottom half of the league does not help the cause. Riders have to share some of the blame, if you go back riders attacked a track but today’s gate and go merchants on the over powered machine are never going to make a good fist of things because so few have honed their track craft and can adapt. The machines are no longer fit for purpose in terms of the UK tracks and few if any riders/mechanics can get the set ups right for the different tracks. Where has it all gone so wrong for the sport? You cannot solely blame the promoters who maybe naive but do try with what are suppose to be experienced resources but sadly those resources also fall well short. Fingers crossed that the Brummies can turn things around.

  24. Couldn't have put it better myself. The people running Birmingham have been there long enough to have learnt something, sad to say it seems they have learnt bugger all, they continue to make mistake after mistake and the big worry is that we may not have any Speedway in the West Midlands if this continues, Track and Track prep dreadful, Team going from bad to worse, Team management have names but no brains, Promotors that are incompetant in allowing all of this to continue week in week out, sad to say the Buck stops there, how the heck can you ask fans to keep paying to watch such a sub standard set up ?.

  32. Vissing missing so no wonder they were so keen to cancel as they would only be allowed a nl guest, still it's Workington so I guess that's ok. Imagine if Plymouth did that when we had to use jason garad as a guest for Kyle Newman when he attended a wedding,,in the bsn meeting against Poole. The bsf would have gone into meltdown. Hopefully bspl investigate this and apply the same rules as they did for kings Lynn.

  35. Totally agree! I think the 'state' of the track/surface will determine how close B'ham can get to 'Oxford' ? Good racing surface (with dirt/grip) Oxford to win by 4 points..... Usual C#ap surface (no grip) Oxford to win by 10/12 points....

  36. A thoroughly nice bloke too.... Edwin was without doubt one of the, if not THE, voices of speedway in the UK from the 70's onwards. RIP Edwin

  37. That is some reply. Saying “I believe other riders in a similar position have guested”. Why the need to “believe”, you should either know if they have or haven’t and give examples (they haven’t). I have no idea what the CL converted average is all about as those riders don’t have an * against their entry in the official declarations, it’s just altered (by 1.5) as Connor Mountains was at the beginning of the season. Shockingly inept reply and I’d actually prefer if they just fronted up and said it’s dodgy, it’s wrong but it’s what we want so suck it up.

  45. Houses have been built around the track perimeter and certainly within earshot of the speedway for decades including a lot of properties costing well over £500,000. Whether many people buying property there are happy with the speedway is debatable but nevertheless they still move within the vicinity of the track so clearly it doesn’t have that much of a deterrent.
