How bloody arrogant and pompous. Let's go back to the good old days when 100 (older) people sat in a dilapidated stand and politely clapped. There are very few 'speedway' fans left. The days of visiting different tracks on a weekly basis and discussing the 'quality' of the racing and having a bevvy is long gone. But even back then you got disagreements and fans shouting at riders and referees. It was normal when there were big crowds. Look at some old videos of 'brilliant meetings' and you soon discover the racing was very average but the atmosphere was tremendous and the results sometimes unbelievable. The only way to increase crowds is to once again make it exciting, memorable and relevant and get people to buy into supporting a team. If that means booing the 'pantomime ' villain (Jack Millen anybody? ) then why not. It builds up atmosphere and gets kids to feel part of a 'team' and they then want to go again and bring their pals. Just go along and watch Glasgow Warriors rugby team who have steadily built up a strong and loyal following with lots of kids and guess what the players meet the fans after the match, pose for selfies, give autographs and every kid is wearing warriors tops, scarves, hats etc. Sound familiar?6 points

Possibly to do with the fact he knew Harris was faster and gave him absolutely no racing room on the outside, as he confirmed he would do in the track walk before the meeting. Harris then had to move to the inside line to try and pass, he makes a clean pass with no contact and Kemp either was unable to adapt or decided to bale out at that point.4 points

Every track has them unfortunately. Although since the take over at Glasgow , almost 10 years ago now , some of the newer fans have got that football supporter mentality and it is embarrassing at times4 points

Do you not eat on the other 6 days a week? If you sit down to watch Eastenders at tea time, do you add the cost of your meal to the cost of the TV licence and then rant at the BBC? The cost of food is purely your choice. If I go up to Manchester on a Monday, I just throw a sandwich together. So I probably spend less on food that night than I would for dinner on a non-speedway night. £61 for a family ticket seems decent value to me. But you could always go on the NSS back straight with a family for £46. That's £11.50 each. Try and go to a football match for £11.50. (And I won't even mention the cost of going to see Taylor Swift sing a few songs at a distance of 200 yards). Sometimes Speedway supporters are just big whingers.3 points

Family ticket 2 adults & 2 U16 £45. Have your tea at home before venturing out to the speedway if you don’t like the prices or use the van outside. Fail on your part due to bad planning. Fact.3 points

Almost a brilliant bit of team riding there from Pawlicki, deserved the 1-5.3 points

It’s the way of things nowadays ,the riders want it slick. Its the fans that suffer. Its not the best Entertainment.3 points

Some idiotic Glasgow fans booing Drew Kemp after heat 15. No wonder nobody likes you3 points

A bit like it use to be and who cares. Watch Mauger, Briggs and many others. Not some sanitised version of the sport you have today. It makes for entrainment and nothing else. Well done Scott for rolling back the years, long may it continue. If you want clean cut racing don’t watch speedway.3 points

If Klindt has only got a broken arm I'm sure he'll be thanking his lucky stars after that.2 points

Sadly, highly unlikely, people generally want to sit at home, watch Tv and have takeaway brought to them these days2 points

The problem with the whingers is that they still live in a past, surreal world where you could get the tram into town, buy three new suits, get blind drunk, go to the speedway, buy some bananas, go see George Formby at the Palace theatre, buy 4 stone of monkey nuts, and still have change out of a farthing. But some of us live in 2024. Great view on the back straight at Belle Vue, and £46 for a family ticket. Compare that with football. And I don't mean Manchester United and City. Try the lower leagues. e.g. Go to Burnley £45 for one person. Go to a concert instead? Next on at Co-Op Arena are "Pearl Jam". Cheapest tickets are £80.50 each. (It'll be even more for someone good). Oh, and it's £9.50 a pint. Look at that time when people paid a fortune to watch Wimbledon tennis, but it rained and they saw nothing and had to suffer Cliff Richard. Look at all those people who paid to see Nicki Minaj at Co-op but saw nothing because she was nicked for drugs. etc etc. One offs like this happen, especially with things like speedway, tennis, cricket which are dependent on weather. Of course if you're an old moaner, things are more expensive since we went decimal, but thankfully most of us live in the real world. But nobody's forcing you to go anywhere. I hear it's a lot warmer watching Barry Manilow at the Co-op. (But buy your Werthers Original at Home Bargains first). But his ticket prices may see the oldies off with a heart attack.2 points

Going with a bold prediction. Leicester finally put in a team performance and pick up a win at Belle Vue. Mountain scored poorly in both leagues last week so maybe he's hit a blip and I'm not sure BV can cover for Kurtz with Lidsey being way too hit and miss this season. As for Leicester, Dougie normally puts on a show around the NSS, Cookie should score a fair few at reserve and Fricke should put in a big performance on his former home track.2 points

Personally I don't think I'm doing them a disservice. To me, I'm actually doing the opposite. They compete equal to men, so can be judged in that way. It's not the same as, say, tennis or swimming, where the physical dofferences between male and female mean they have to compete separately. If I did a disservice to the other riders by assuming they weren't at her level then, in my defence, I did say 'presumably' as I don't know much about them. Having said that, Celina was unbeaten all meeting and that is what I, for one, expected. And if you think I'm somehow having a go at her, I should point out that she's probably my favourite rider at the moment and one of the few likely to get me to part with money and actually go to a meeting2 points
-
Completely agree, correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the most publicised piece of media from last year, the Cookie and Basso Bust up. The excitement for the return leg when they were up against eachother, fans booing and cheering surely is what gives the meeting atmosphere. Comparing them to Football fans is a bit of a stretch, fans don't need to be separated by barriers or police officers and it's definitely not T-total at the speedway to stop any bust ups.2 points

Unusual for Pawlicki to go down like that..2 points

And that attitude is why speedway is failing. Berwick fans pay good money to watch the sport they love, the club have a duty to fans and riders to produce a track that creates racing. During the football season I could understand track preparation being harder to do due to access, but the season has been finished for 6 weeks and that track was pitiful. Yes they have to make do with the shape of the track but absolutely no excuse for a bare, bumpy, one line track.2 points

Exactly my feelings. As much as I love seeing Ipswich win and competitive again after years. The thing that has me buzzed the most the last few seasons is having 1/2 of the best riders in the world at the club. I’d pay to watch Doyle and Emil race alone. Also bringing exciting young talents over like Rew always gets people interested. Speedway is has and always will predominantly be about entertainment and putting bums on seats as much as winning. Ipswich are a well run club and wouldn’t continue to persist to employ top riders (likely at significant outlay) if it isn’t of benefit to the club and the sport in the UK. The work the ipswich team/sponsors put into bringing Emil over here arguably made it possible for other clubs to start bringing back some of the bigger names.2 points

Scores at home 7,6,7,12,2,6,8,11 Away 4,9,0 (withdrew injured),11,5,11,8,3,5 Signed on a 5.19. Only got less than 5 in 4 meetings, one where he crashed and withdrew failing to finish a race. But no actual Berwick fan is calling for Drew Kemp to be dropped.2 points

He does tend to ride a tight inside line a lot which catches him out on a patchy track track.Glasgow was perfectly prepared for his riding style.(always well prepared).1 point

The largest demographic by a country mile is 50+, white, male, with the vast majority of them paying for themselves as they attend alone or, with a mate who also pays for themselves.. Which suggests a family ticket isn't such great value... Where the sport seriously shoots itself in the foot is its pricing structure... It is clear, as history shows, you are not going to significantly increase your attendance's by attracting new followers, therefore, make it cheaper and get those who do attend to attend more regularly... With the play offs, many fans now give certain meetings a miss when their team has clearly qualified, and, as we clearly see, TV meetings can decimate the attendance... Most top flight clubs seem to have around 2500 to 3000 "followers" who attend in varying degrees of regularity, with BH's and Play Offs, bringing many "out of the woodwork".. Get the pricing structure to attract around 2000 of then a night has to be the aim...1 point

I respectfully suggest we get off his back and get behind him. I don't know whether you have noticed but there are not that many riders out there who we could replace him with.1 point

I am amazed how well Scott is riding wants to get to the first bend be in the mix and hold his own with riders half his age I for one can forgive him the odd roller !!!!1 point

Fingers crossed Klindt OK. One day the Stars might have some good luck for a change. Its no wonder we never win anything1 point

WOW!!!……Yes, there’s always been booing and pantomime villains and I’ve been happy to be part of it…….but it was the unwarranted blinkered and aggressive reactions from some newbies I was alluding to. Didn’t mean to upset you……lol1 point

Near the end of the vid, HT 8, to save going through it all. Feel for Klindt, hope both are ok.1 point

I think the Witches management have played it really well thus far by not making a rash move that they might later regret. They have also increased their prospects of landing a top line replacement as the passage of time results in a shorter period to commit to the UK which may be more attractive to an incoming rider. Sill far from easy though but if any management team can provide a solution it will be CL & Co. If there is to be a new signing, assuming no further postponements, I calculate that the first appearance would have to take place no later than 25 July at King’s Lynn so not long to wait before we know for sure.1 point

Celina Liebmann winning this was probably even more of a sure thing than Bartosz winning the Grand Prix series. Maybe the apathy was because men and women compete together in speedway, so having a competition for women only makes it quite a low level competition and little more than a novelty. I think there must be a lot more enjoyment in watching Celina trying to take points off men in the Championship than watching her beat women who (presumably) are nowhere close to her level.1 point

Do BSN use local camera operators? It always seems to be crap camera work from Berwick and Scunthorpe, usually missing most of any action or incidents with crazy camera zooms and often concentrating on the wrong riders.1 point

At 17 I reckon that Parnickyi the Ukrainian lad riding in the top league in the World is outstanding, had some good battles with Emil, looks very much an SGP rider of the future unless something derails his progress. Rode well last week as well in the SGP2. Very entertaining meeting.1 point

It also looked to me like the bottom tape had come undone and I think they were attracting the track staff to do something about it before the riders came round after the first lap. The camera clearly showed a member of the track staff holding up the end of the tape for the rest of the race, I wonder how he reached it without going onto the track, perhaps he has long arms.1 point

Possibly the Peterborough of last season - however wouldnt it be nice (for stars fans) if they could just for once get it right from the beginning of the season! if they hadnt had 2 points taken off and won their home match in hand they would be off the bottom and likely pushing for the last plsyoff spot! They do look decent at home - although with Tobias out for 28 days one wonders if he will return! I hope so as he is a decent rider. As for the crowd or lack of I rather suspect no one is suprised but as someone else says it just seems sad to see a decent match on TV in front of what appears to be a rather sparsely attended meeting, altho i reckon it was maybe about 1000.1 point
