Regardless who isn't doing what we hoped they would , watching Bomber every home meeting , especially when he misses the gate , is why we love speedway . That meeting was in danger of getting away from us last night as mid meeting Berwick looked the stronger side , but our captain , with some incredible overtaking , inspired us to the win .6 points

Parnicki is a hell of a prospect. Very exciting at such a young age. He should have no issue getting sponsors going forward after this season. Fair play to him.5 points

No disrespect to Harris or Scotty both absolute icons of the sport in this country. However, I’d rather gamble on the best rider in the world coming in even if he doesn’t perform as well round foxhall as perhaps scotty would. We need to keep attracting new riders over to Britain and I would argue the same two riders guesting in almost every meeting for various teams throughout the season is an example of wrong with the sport over here currently. Need a bigger talent pool and bringing the top boys back here is only a good thing.4 points

Scores at home 7,6,7,12,2,6,8,11 Away 4,9,0 (withdrew injured),11,5,11,8,3,5 Signed on a 5.19. Only got less than 5 in 4 meetings, one where he crashed and withdrew failing to finish a race. But no actual Berwick fan is calling for Drew Kemp to be dropped.4 points

Inside gate , racing line , front wheels ahead of the rest, turns his bike and it’s all 4 back. Boy rides with balls. Nobody yelled and booed yer skipper when he nearly fenced him on bend 2 . Rose tinted glasses me thinks.4 points

Toruń were awful today and it wasn’t like they were out gated either, leszno worked hard for that win3 points

The Starting Marshal should bring them nearer the Tapes.Take leaf out of Polish Speedway virtually no rolling and much more tighter control riders bike position and nearer tapes. Riders ignore the Starting Marshal over here and ge away with it too much.3 points

That’s the biggest mistake they made with this years team building Blodorn instead of Brennan, but it’s easy with hindsight isn’t it.3 points

Can’t understand the hate for Dickson tonight on the meeting thread and on this one. Hagon was going better than Jye at that point of the meeting and was mixing it and I fancied he could’ve have beaten Worrall if Bomber hadn’t tried to send him in to the back straight fence on the second lap. Garrad had to take another ride as it seems to me his 2 minutes exclusion in Heat 8 doesn’t count so therefore had to take heat 14 at that point, Kemp then as seems to be the case, went missing in a big race leaving us the unlikely task of overhauling Bomber in Heat 15. Kemp and Kerr both made it too easy for Bomber to pass them in earlier races, I know he is almost impossible to stop when he’s charging but maybe don’t leave him the width of a bus to come round the outside of you on the last bend. Too many what ifs and maybes but I’ve seen a lot of people pinning the loss on the TM which baffles me when out of the 4 “Bandits” in the team only one really showed up, if it wasn’t for a couple of good guest bookings which I’ve no doubt Stewart had a massive part in sorting, we’d have been a mile off against a fairly underwhelming Glasgow side. Regardless of all that, the season is well and truly over and all we can do now is make a couple of changes and see how some riders stack up for next season.3 points

A bit like it use to be and who cares. Watch Mauger, Briggs and many others. Not some sanitised version of the sport you have today. It makes for entrainment and nothing else. Well done Scott for rolling back the years, long may it continue. If you want clean cut racing don’t watch speedway.2 points

At 17 I reckon that Parnickyi the Ukrainian lad riding in the top league in the World is outstanding, had some good battles with Emil, looks very much an SGP rider of the future unless something derails his progress. Rode well last week as well in the SGP2. Very entertaining meeting.2 points

I read that Kolodziej has lent the Ukrainian his equipment and pit crew. Fair to say it's working out like a treat at the moment.2 points

Mitch Cluff was the lad on JP's bike. They are team mates in Poland. He loved Ashfield , said its so much fun to ride and the banking is brilliant.2 points

Happiest man in Ashfield last night had to be " the Grand Monarch " . He will have been in his element dishing out all those exclusions in heat 82 points

Personally, I didn’t think Hagon did anything wrong and the correct decision was made. He was holding a tight line and I felt Pijper leant heavily on to him. Just my opinion……2 points
-
At least he tried something, don’t think it made any difference to end result. When you have a No5 who needs replaced in Ht13 you are in trouble anyway.2 points

Because Dickson got it terribly wrong. If there was a chance Hagon would have scored in 13, then surely that translates to an almost certain win in heat 14? If riders underperformed, then they rightly can be called on it too. Doesn't mean the TM gets a free pass on bad decisions. The only defence Dickson can have is he thought ht 8 counted as a ride for Garrad & at the last minute was told he needed a 3rd ride, so had rode in ht 14, otherwise he should have been in ht 13. Dickson certainly didn't cause the loss, that was the riders. But it could have been closer for the bonus point with more shrewd team managing.2 points

Not if Osbourne offered to fund the building development in partnership with a property company eg Taylor Wimpey or similar?! The Council cant afford to fund new buildings themselves. Having said that, if/when the time comes there will be a helluva fan protest.........!2 points

And now Basso, is a 9.86 to set foot in the championship thanks to the extremely ill thought x1.5 rule . Worrall is gate and gone, you saw that tonight, but if he isn't away from the gates you can guarantee he isn't going to pass. With all the "replace this rider replace that rider" I just don't see letting Worrall go benefits us at all.2 points

Or look at the piss poor version of what was once an enjoyable form of entertainment with decent crowds but has been allowed to be dictated by the woke society of speedway in terms of rules and pandering to the so called supporters who really do not support the sport or the club and the league which is not what it is solely about. No wonder club owners will not run open meetings with the finicky supporters who cannot see beyond league racing and wonder why British riders struggle. Years back open meetings were helpful to up and coming riders as well as established riders as it gave them track time and as an example Rye House ran a number of open meetings before the Rockets moved in . If you are old enough you know how good it could be but if you are one of today’s supporters who only can get the head around team/league racing and cannot understand individual meetings, four team tournaments, local derbies etc and have rarely seen team riding as well as appreciating promoters who actually promoted the sport (like Len Silver use to do) then you fall into the category of those who really do not get speedway. It had its positives and those should not be dismissed but it needs to move on and should entertain the punter and not be driven by some clear cut rigid rules. It should be fun but today’s version in the UK is dire. When it can emulate Poland and attract crowds that only U K clubs could dream of then you know it is on an upward trajectory but as it stands it has little to offer apart from topping up the salaries of a few overseas riders and as for the rest they should treat it as a part time hobby and ought to get a real job. It has lost its way in the UK1 point

That's a bit ridiculous. Kemp for example has been good this season, you don't drop him due to one "poor" match. Besides he scored his average last night. Strange people don't complain about his inconsistency in the good night lol! The other riders team places could be under threat.1 point

The starting Marshall was waving his hands at Jack like a petrified matador . It’s not as if you can’t see the clock. The move on Hagin by Bomber could have been a nasty one but it wasn’t so I’m sure Sam takes it as a learning tool and carries on . Big future for that boy me thinks1 point

Glasgow were there for the taking last night and half way through the meeting it wouldn't have been a shock if Berwick won. The ht13 inspired comeback could have been nullified if Hagon was in ht14. Next week hopefully Cami can communicate to his riders to get to the tapes on time, and stay in the saddle. Ht8 was avoidable nonsense.1 point

For me it’s a no brainier and we need to be ruthless. Let’s be honest Leon has never rode our track well and continues to not ride it well even as a home rider , it’s just one of those matches that aren’t suited. Signing Riss would strengthen us significantly home and away.1 point

He's been better than people like to give him credit for all season, he's just a bit unloved because he's a bit dull, combined with replacing Basso. Not really his fault.1 point

That heat 7 ride from Emil was fantastic . Took Masters right out to the fence allowing Rew to nip past on the inside to join him for a 5-1. Superb stuff.1 point

That it clashes with Oxford v Workington If it really was the NDLRC Luke Killeen would be in it and the Cheetahs using a guest. But it isn't and Killeen is riding for Oxford, not in some jumped up open junior meeting.1 point

Well that’s another moot point. I always say you can only judge the best of their time., Different attitudes, different standards of professionalism, different bikes , different tracks , different standards of opposition, all play into a riders success or lack of. How would Tai Woofinden handle a dirt Douggie on cinders ? We don’t know, but doesn’t stop the discussions being fascinating.1 point

I absolutely agree that record books don't tell the whole story. Chunky asked me earlier whether I thought Tom Farndon was as good as Ove or Bjorn. I really can't answer that. Obviously I never saw Farndon ride. But I do think he is a good case in point where record books in themselves don't tell the whole story. Again without looking them up, I would say that the record books would show he did not have quite as good a record as other riders of the pre-War era, Bluey Wilkinson for example. However, reading contemporary newspaper reports and other eye-witness accounts, I don't think there is any doubt that he was idolised like no other rider in the history of the sport. It was of film star proportions. Does that make him the greatest and therefore greater than Fundin, Mauger, Rickardsson, Zmarzlik? I don't know. Probably not in terms of achievements, in fact certainly not, but in terms of what he meant to speedway as a whole, then probably yes. On the points you raise, E I, I always consider the 1960s and early 70s to be "my" era for speedway. I used to go two or three times a week, went to all the big meetings, followed the goings on avidly in the speedway press and so on. To my mind, Ove Fundin was just the absolute greatest rider of my era. Again I don't know whether that can be backed up by record books and statistics, in fact probably not when compared to Mauger, but there was just something about seeing Fundin ride. The absolute thrill of seeing the master in action. Mauger never gave me that same feeling. In a funny way, he was just too professional and efficient. As far as Ronnie Moore is concerned he was, as you say, probably the most naturally talented of the lot. He could ride the inside, the outside, slow races down, speed them up, do everything you could with a bike. He was a great team man and would always look for his team mate to shepherd him home. To Ronnie, the team was everything and I think, in a way, this was his undoing when it came to individual events. In spite of his near perfect bike control, he did not have that ruthless streak of a Fundin or a Briggs and I think that's what led to his probably not winning as many World titles as his talent should have won him. There is one other rider I would like to mention and that is Jack Young. I only ever saw him in the early 1960s when he was well past his best. But older supporters I knew used to reminisce about seeing him in the early 50s and many thought he was the greatest rider they had ever seen. In two successive weeks in 1961, he won the King of the South Cup and the Tom Farndon Memorial Trophy at New Cross and he was absolutely stunning. In the course of these wins, he beat Briggs (twice), Fundin, Moore (twice) and Knutson. He was absolutely brilliant and showed what he must have been like in the early 50s at his peak. I always consider it a privilege to have got this glimpse of Youngie at his best and understood why the older supporters rated him as the best ever.1 point

Personally I don’t think the record books tell the whole story . For one thing records tell us that Jerzy Szczakiel was almost on a par with Ivan Mauger if judged purely on the occasions that met but I would suggest that anyone who put them in the same bracket had taken leave of their senses. Ivan IMO was probably the best ( or shall we say most successful ) rider of his generation if judged on w week—in week-out basis, assuming we say Fundin, 5 or 6 years older belonged to a previous generation, as finished his 5 World Championships before Ivan won any of his. How would you guys match those two ? Then we have Briggo. More erratic on form but at his absolute best I don’t think there was a rider so far ahead of the opposition except arguably Fundin who I didn’t see at his best so can’t really comment. My outstanding memory of Briggo is winning the last of his British finals at West Ham. The No. 2 gate wasn’t working and nobody did better than third off of it and even Ivan ran a last from it . Then. Briggo came out off No2 and a made it look like it was the others that weren’t working as he waltzed to a 15 point maximum. Then we’re does Ronnie Moore fit into all this? I have seen him described as the most naturally talented rider that ever sat on a speedway bike . I only ever saw I’m at the back end of his career when he came back from retirement after 6 years was past his sell by date , but still better than most could ever hope to be, and probably one of the most stylish riders I’ve ever seen. Where does he fit with the others ? Great Sport to have us all talking like this years later.1 point
