  1. What a cracking meeting last night . Cracking atmosphere too with the good away support in attendance, really enjoyed meeting up with my Cumbrian friends again . A big away support really makes it a better occasion. Anyway as for the meeting . Going by the new rules all this riders messing about at the start is obviously being cracked down on . I watched Pearson roll back with 10 seconds on the clock , but he went forward with about 5 seconds left , at that point Cook rolled back and wasn't at the tapes when the clock went to zero , the ref immediately put the white exclusion light on . We got gifted a 5-1 in that heat due to young Zischke's misfortune with the bike stopping just yards from the finish line . But what a prospect he looks , won't be long before Premiership teams come calling . And what an improvement in Dan Thompson too , he also is looking a rider with real promise . For us , Harris was his usual dominant self , backed up by Flint , Pearson and Smith . But Worrall was dreadful and Starke needs to ride a better lawn mower . But young Hodder done his bit by backing Smith for the heat 2 , 5-1 . The heat 1 disasters came back to bite the Comets on the arse , but they are an exciting team and it was an enthralling contest.

  2. Thats the second time its happened at Ashfield this season, the other being Schlien. Refs have possibly been told to apply it to the letter and hopefully it changes riders culture as the tapes fannying about has been needing dealt with for years. If there is no sanction it wont stop.

  3. Well done the Tigers, thought you might nick it being at home. Got to say I felt aggrieved at the disqualification of Cookie in heat 1 especially has he had been at the gate in good time and far sooner than Bomber, poor decision by the ref for me . Just to compound the decision Tate had a mechanical (looked like another chain failure for him) coming off turn 4 lap 4 while in the lead turning a 3-3 into a 1-5. Bomber untouchable following his good fortune in heat 1 was ably supported by Leon Flint, James Pearson and Jack Smith who was a different rider from the one who raced at Northside for Scunny on Sunday. Solid performance from Comets top 5, but probably expected Claus to be a bit more dominant. The home reserves outscored Sam and Celina 11 to 2 which proved crucial , two or three points more between them would have gone a long way . Can't help thinking this was a missed opportunity . Thank you Dan Thompson for guesting and putting in a strong performance, much appreciated. Hope we can produce a stronger team performance tomorrow and overturn the 13 point deficit against Redcar and make it to the next round of the KO Cup. Enjoyed the trip as usual, the Facennas have done a great job with the stadium which is improving all the time, so well done them.

  4. Loving all the expert track people on here, keep knocking us but we don't care. We beat Oxford fair and square over 2 legs with 6 riders

  5. If I had paid to get in I would have been a bit cheesed off... Two of the best riders in the league now not going head to head in heat one.. With the ref actually delaying the start of the meeting more than Cook did...!! Still, they risk their lives reffing for our entertainment dont they?

  6. He has a point though, if you keep diluting the product but charge the same or more for it then eventually fans will see it as not value for money. The way it will be viewed and rightly is paying less 2 years ago for a better product. Nearly all sports look to improve there product but in Speedway it is the opposite.

  8. Couldn't disagree with the two of you more, I thought it was an excellent meeting. Don`t mind losing meetings when the racing is as good as that, value for my £18. Credit to Poole on their win and their match winner in Sam Hagon who really came up with the goods, especially after his side went down to six riders.

  9. There will be a large travelling support next week , looking forward to it my first visit to Northside. It is good to see Workington back and the feel good factor surrounding them.

  11. Not a single mention on Jack Smith ?? 10 points last week 8 this week, Had the beating of batchlor heat 4, pushed hard in 14 against Claus and was unlucky to get swallowed up in heat 8. As a speedway fan heat 1 exclusion of cook was a joke, yes we can say it was by the letter of the law, however refereeing consistency in our sport is a joke.

  12. Don’t be fooled by the final score line (two late Bears 5-1’s made it look closer), this was a comfortable win for the Scorpions. A much better team performance than when they won by 6 points a few weeks ago. Very solid performance from the main body of the team and a superb showing from their guest, Boughen at reserve. Seems to have been struggling so far but he was brilliant tonight. So much speed for a 16 year old and he was a joy to watch. Definitely a star in the making. Bears benefited from a fantastic performance from Riss and the usual good show from Wright but the rest of the main body of the team scored 11 from 12 rides, which isn’t good enough to win at home. If Riss had been at 1 and out first race and Bailey not fallen off when 3rd on Heat 9 then Bears might have got something out of the meeting, but the better team won.

  17. Does the start Marshall not make sure they’re all in line at Plymouth. Bowtell about a meter away from the tapes there giving himself a longer run into the corner. Also pretty crap meeting so far.

  18. In such a tiny sport where the result wont resonate past a few thousand at best, the entertainment factor is paramount.. "He pulled away from fhe tapes, he should be excluded, hooray he is!! Great! That's that race knackered"...

  19. Going by interviews last few years they have both been trying to get a Polish place which would mean it would be harder to do Championship.

  20. I think it’s naive to blame the referee here. I too would have preferred to see Harris and Cook going toe-to-toe in the opening heat, but what’s the referee guilty of? Implementing the rule book? In response to your first sentence, I paid to get in and was cheesed-off that Cook withdrew from the tapes as the other three were poised to begin. An entirely correct exclusion.

  21. Who realistically would/could race here?? You'd obviously take Lambert/Vaculik/Lindgren but seems unrealistic. Michelson? Thompson? Pr Pawlicki? Would be a massive missed opportunity not to use the points available.

  22. Totally agree. Fans have been complaining about the starts for years and also the different interpretation of the rules by referees. The new rule is simple, can be understood by fans old and new, and even refs should be able to implement it consistently and fairly. It works in Poland and the Grand Prix. As an aside, I thought the meeting ran quickly finishing at c9pm and we still managed track gradings and the kids race. Finally a wins a win and prior to the meeting I would have accepted any sort of win. Good to see and hear a good number of Comets fans, hope you all enjoyed the racing.

  26. That might be fine on that occasion but there are riders, and experienced ones at that who will rip the p!ss at the start gate if they can get away with it. They're not getting away with it any more from the meetings I've seen.

  27. Werent we interested in Tate before his massive crash? Give it time on Brennan, its still the early part of the season. I doubt he'd be the same if we retained him, he seemed quite lethargic last season and plateaud on his average. I've not heard a dissenting voice about him moving on this year, that seems reserved for Vissing. It is what it is now, we've got to get on with it and get more out of Worrall and our middle pairing.

  28. He's had 10 years practice doing this, probably why he rarely get a full time team place

  31. Pretty sure they would have been consulted, with an original fixture list given to clubs for them to look at and agree/disagree with. They would have had to agree to it before it became official.

  33. Certainly not the best meeting I've seen at The Coliseum but not the worst either. The track is getting there and will take time but hats off to Mark Phillips and his crew for attempting and completing the project they undertook and the weather issues they faced with it. I spoke to him this evening and told him that too. Oxford had a couple of passengers tonight at 2&6 but still kept it close. JJ started well but faded, Heeps started poorly but improved. Scott and Sam were as solid as expected. Plymouth were solid throughout and Kyle Newman was superb all night. Dan was good too but that is his standard these days. Special mention to Jacob who quietly racked up a decent paid 7 as well which helped Plymouth's reserves make the difference overall. Those two at 6&7 must be good as in two home matches Gazza hasn't swapped them over once yet and those who have supported Garry May teams in the past know how rare that is for him!

  34. It's been said plenty times , reserves win meetings and that was proved true tonight, added to the fact that the home team only provided 6 heat wins. You ain't going to a meeting with those stats .

  41. The club got frustrated with Lynn more than once last year. They were kept waiting and waiting for information from Lynn every time they had a fixture but nobody was responding to their calls. In the end the admin gave up and put up the meeting previews and just guessed the Lynn line ups. Lynn is run terribly.

  43. Disappointing not to go through as I feel Poole were there for the taking after the first 4 heats. The track dried out pretty quickly after the first grade and heat 5 killed our momentum. All credit to Poole, they rode well and adjusted to the drying track, Brennan was top notch. On the positive side, it’s another home win against a very strong side. Josh now looks like a reliable number 1 and has been well backed up by Paco & Sedgy. I’ve been impressed with Connor & Max settling in and scoring important points at reserve but Kye was woeful tonight, it’s simply not good enough for a number 3 and I’m not sure how long we can put up with it for.

  44. I get your point, but finishing 4th, is just as valuable as finishing 1st. Then just need to be good for 4 meetings. If they can sign a top heat leader, then that'll make a difference (I expected that rider to be Janowski). I thought the original team looked very good, so can't blame the promotion for getting it wrong.

  45. Wasn't a fan at all when the team was announced. Worrall, Flint and Starke would have been some of the last riders I would have signed. Worrall before this meeting you could at least say was reliable just not as exciting as Basso, Flint has the potential to do something (though I think he is flattered a bit by riding with Starke) and Starke was I presume based on averages because he's been going downhill every season. Just seems like some strange choices for a team you'd expect to be competing for gold every year. I hope they can turn this around but changes may be on the horizon for us.

  46. The Starke signing was strange ,guess it was down to team average being lowered once again. We were spoiled last season with the racers and quality we had , I get the feeling this season is going to be a slog.

  47. Stevie probably just had an off night. Let's be honest, we all have them. I once accidentally ran over several people with a forklift at my workplace and the fact that I was drunk and had stolen the vehicle from a nearby factory for a dare didn't exactly help my cause at the tribunal. I'm sure we'll see a much improved Stevie next week.
