  1. No going to disagree with you there. Unfortunately those who run the sport and ultimately run teams in higher leagues cannot see that a higher level in the NDL will generate a higher level across the sport. Instead the NDL was viewed as a competitive viable product and therefore a threat to higher divisions and was dumbed down rather than focussing on developing the product higher up.

  2. Surely the justice system is there to punish those who deserve it. Once they've served this aren't they then given the chance to resume their place in society or should they continue to be punished for the rest of their lives? (And please don't think I'm condoning his past actions)

  3. I reckon Craig will be fine this season. He looked decent to me, probably just needs a few more meetings to really settle in. But I don’t think many people will be questioning his signing come the end of the season.

  4. There is no doubt that the crimes Jason committed were appaulling to say the least but what chance has he of putting things right if society won't give him anopportunity to do so .He has served the sentence given him and the stigma will always be there for the rest of his life .I was just as shocked as everyone else when the details of his actions became public knowledge but I do think that he should be given an opportunityto demonstrate his rehabilitation( whether that be in s/way or any other form of employment) and make some positive contrubutions to society which will allow people to ultimately" possibly" forgive but not forget his transgressions.

  5. But, if they did that, then that would rule out anyone switching from grasstrack or moto X who are over 21 but just starting out on the shale.

  6. An alternate view of the change regarding guests. Now like most people, I'm not a fan of guests but agree they are a "necessary evil". One of my biggest bugbears about them is there's no incentive whatsoever to sign a replacement, when guests are allowed. Now we have a team (Oxford) with an injured rider (Kerr) and a willing replacement (Riss) but they've decided to instead to replace Klindt because they'd rather use guests. So is there a rule / should there be a rule where the BSPL / SCB say to Oxford, you can't drop Klindt just because you'd prefer to use guests? Would be different if Riss didn't fit for Kerr obviously. I almost feel like "why should Oxford be allowed a guest, when they could easily change the team & not need one"?

  7. Don’t rate Oxford at all. Outside of masters and Nicholls the other 3 in their top 5 offer you not a lot.

  8. I really do hope he going to go on the straight and narrow now, not sticking up for him or justifying his crime in any way but he is not the first rider to attack and I use the term lightly another person and return to racing although the others may have escaped a prison sentence for their crime, anyway not sure how fans would react to him but in garrity’s world if anything can rehabilitate him it’s speedway, if that fails for him, I fear the worst

  9. The other aspect is they have to be able to take up gainful employment otherwise society will be end-up paying more for them on dole. There's no aspect of the crime being related to speedway, unlike say a convicted child abuser working in a school, so don't really see the issue with working again in speedway. Pretty unpleasant and nasty criminal I think we can agree, but hopefully some lessons have been learned and is now a reformed character. As the sentence was over 4 years, I think that's not an automatic halving and requires some sort of good behaviour and approval of the Parole Board for release. And of course will still be out on licence.

  10. I think fixing races, as opposed to robbing disabled human beings at knife point has a slightly different severity !? Hey...its all about opinions....thank heavens for Forums

  11. Like I've seen you say before. Just show up to be entertained by the strongest possible sides and not look too far beyond it. I would rather see sedgy than r/r or a sub standard guest personally

  13. Completely agree but it should be nowhere near a speedway track.

  14. They changed the rules to allow more guests. I guess because the fans all love guests?

  15. According to the BSPL site Dan got 21 paid 24 (from 10 rides). He must be cream crackered. It was especially good seeing as how he seems to have got a 5-1 all on his own in heat 12. Edit: They've corrected the error now (maybe we're read, more than we think!)

  16. Great to see Dan and Joe thriving after the rotten treatment they got last year. Fantastic climax, milking the VAR for all it was worth. But as a Cheetahs fan the Oxford line up looks a bit flabby.

  17. Except knocking Edinburgh out of the BSN leaves him with 2 less fixtures, hitting his wage packet?

  18. I believe you either have a rehabilitation system, or you don't.. If Garrity's main way of earning money was as a plumber would he never be allowed to do it again.? Having employed ex cons, part of their release agreement can be restorative justice whereby they meet up with their victims and agree to give them recompense over time for their actions, and it is built into their wages received when they start work.. (Obviously this is led by the victim and doesn't always happen, but maybe in his case it has?).. To have anyone saying "I will never go again" though is crackers... If you have a flood at your home and are ankle deep in water, and an ex con turns up who you know has commited a violent crime, would you turn him away ? I am no bleeding heart liberal at all, but you either have a system that rehabilitate's and your slate is then clean when your time is served.. Or you don't...

  29. But this is the whole problem, the standard of the ndl isn't going to get any better, speedway in this country needs to be rethought out because at the moment it's the same year in year out.

  30. But surely if a rider coming through the junior ranks isn't good enough to displace a poor established rider.....With the low numbers competing an U21 league would virtually guarantee anyone with a bike a team spot and thats no good for making the standard better.

  31. 100℅.... It must be a huge shock to the system to get binned from a UK team.. The riders will know that "talent" is in short supply, in both leagues, so many would think they are "bomb proof".. The reality of course is that even if you get binned by one club, invariably another will want your services, given that lack of a talent pool due to running 7 man teams..

  32. Laguta is the answer to Birmingham's problems. Having the (real) world champion in the pits will inspire the rest of the team.

  34. I've got my doubts any club would truly consider signing Jason and expect it to be people jumping to conclusions. However, if Plymouth do then I really cannot see them recovering from the decision. I can completely appreciate he's done his time and ultimately Jason does deserve the opportunity at rehabilitation and leading some form of normality. But being a sportsman is a completely different kettle of fish, it's not just a job or a normal 9-5, you're front and centre in the public and an inspiration to younger fans. Would I want my kids cheering on someone who has robbed a vulnerable disabled person at knife point? Absolutely not and I can imagine most would feel the same. Also need to consider the negative media that'll come from it. The press will have an absolute field day with it dragging Plymouth and the sport through the absolute mud.

  35. I've seen quite a few comments on fb especially, suggesting that Riss for Klindt is part of a plan to replace Kerr with a stronger rider, but that doesn't make any difference. Oxford are now on 37.88, they can replace Kerr (5.32) with the spare 2.12, so 7.44 available for a replacement. If Riss replaced Kerr instead of Klindt, the team would average 39.24, so they'd have an extra 0.76 to replace Klindt (6.68) which is 7.44!

  36. Really don't think Oxford look that good this year but I'm still shocked at how close Plymouth got to winning this meeting. Thompson twins starting off the season great.

  41. One might want to question the so called 'justice' system? ( a whole new can of worms...I know) but, JG was handed a 7 and a half year sentence....and he's out after 3 and a half years? Not sure his victims would call that 'Justice'? I'm all for giving people second chances, but not purely based on a sentence served? I would insist on some proof of reformation!

  44. He can only get one meeting per month/league at each track, unless changed due to there being less meetings this year, and being a 'local' referee. Willie Dishington was due as referee at Edinburgh v Glasgow that was rained off, local referee again. The fee for a local referee is less than those from a distance away so sensible to use local referee for first fixture of season to help club cash flow.
