Your vendetta against Plymouth is pathetic as is your total lack of respect for the ndl, which is where the future of British speedway is nurtured, not some hellish place that teams you have a vendetta against get banished to as some form of punishment.11 points

Thats a bit of an arrogant statement mate, Plymouth are generally well supported with a decent away following it's just a pity that a lot of riders don't want to travel down to Plymouth for home meetings, plus the racetrack is not a favourite of many riders though Mark Phillips has tried to extend the track a little over the close season, I wish Plymouth all the best for 2024 and hope they can get some decent weather to complete the Track improvements.10 points

Many will remember your Club as a bit of a joke until Ben Duffil came in and transformed it in to the progressive Club it is today. Your vendetta is puerile and just emphasises how apt your name tag is.9 points

Really looking forward to this one, especially the battle of the local heroes in heat 3. Sure to be an expensive night for Bandit59 as he makes the trip across the border to cheer on his beloved ‘splash the cash Tigers’ (hope the Fish supper is Nice)5 points

Rory does a great job when on BSN .Passes on some great knowledge about the technical details.4 points

It was the referee, B Horley, that ultimately wasted everyone's time. Rob & crew did their best & the Scunny riders wanted to go out & test the track.4 points

Depends how thick someone's skin is I suppose . You dish it out , you take it back , it's all good fun . It's why Scottish derbies are so special . We can poke fun at each other and have a drink together in the bar afterwards .4 points

I wouldn’t bother replying to half the crap posted on here, meant to be a speedway forum to discuss but so far this season it’s filled with trolling.3 points

Just throwing another 'issue' in to the do they/don't they, run a meeting based on weather forecast? I think its fair to say that the majority of 'speedway' fans want to see close/competitive racing? Well....bear with me...I'm getting to the point Sometimes.....because of the 'forecast' (possible rain)....track prep is hindered ? ..i.e they don't water the track in advance....therefore, the surface is extremely slick/dusty, which makes for 'processional' racing....which doesn't raise much enthusiasm imo! Therefore....I'd vote for a call-off, over a 'cr#p' meeting!3 points

Such sad news. He did so much for the sport as both a rider and promoter. RIP2 points

Comfortable win for Scunthorpe, who will take some beating at home when they all click. Allen and Ablett particularly impressive. Only Wright and Edwards (and to a lesser extent Trigger) were on the pace for Redcar and the 3-4 pairing looks very vulnerable (as suspected). But it’s early days and hopefully they improve. Agree about Schlein thought he was very good but Roynon’s questions were often longer than the replies!2 points

Dave did an incredible job for many years to keep Stoke running and competitive... A true unsung stalwart of UK Speedway..2 points

It will be better next year, as the 3rd 4th bend area is being filled in to carry on banking all round the GT tyres arena,2 points

Lakeside, Am i correct in thinking the land owner no longer wanted Speedway their. Rye House, The Owners again do not want Speedway. Wimbledon, GRA did not want Speedway nor in the end Greyhound racing. Hackney, Was that site required for the Olympics. Wolverhampton, Yet another requested to leave by Stadium owners. Stoke, Landowners sold the Stadium. Boston, No idea. Eastbourne, Unviable or should i say Bills unpaid. Newport, Closed and demolished by Owners. Exeter, I,m guessing that yet again Stadium developed by Owners. Cradley Heath, Sold for development by the owners. Long Eaton, Sold for development by the owners. Coventry, Situation fluid and ongoing. The common factor amongst the majority of closed Stadiums is that they were closed for future development by the Stadium owners, some of the exceptions being Sunderland, Newcastle, Bradford, Workington (Rugby). The major issue is that primarily Speedway promoters are tenants of these Stadia and therefore it is out of their hands what the Stadium owners decide to do ie take the big bucks from developers or loose change in rent from Speedway promoters usually on an annual lease. As for Osborne he is a developer, sold Bristol, Closed Reading, Milton Keynes, and Swindon, something went wrong at Hereford, and Torquay don't want to play ball with his new Stadia idea, I have no doubt he is on the look out for potential none League Football Stadiums preferably in the South West..2 points

A very harsh statement. The Plymouth team was announced in good time with all riders fit. In the very last race in Argentina their No 1 gets a serious injury. By this time no no 1 s were free who were able or willing to race on a Saturday. It looks as if the original no1 is hoping to be fit enough to ride by mid May. Perhaps you would like to see them out of speedway all together. Yes it is a long way to Plymouth for visiting fans but te sae can be said for Plymouth supporters of any sports team. If you look at the Plymouth Argyle away support this averages well over 1000.2 points

Well after the disappointment of being denied an opening win at Armadale because of the rainy stuff that hates speedway , its off down to the borders tomorrow for the usual pre-meeting pub crawl . Berwick , under the stewardship of the " special one " , look a much tougher proposition this season . But we have enough track specialists in our ranks to make this a close and entertaining occasion. So if the rain would kindly sod off and let's get our 2024 campaign underway. See you tomorrow Banditos.1 point

My all time favourite rider. I was fortunate enough to be able to be in attendance to watch three of his finest individual achievements:- 1975 British Champion at Coventry. 1975 Third place in the World Final at Wembley after a run off with the great Ivan Mauger. 1979 Winner of the BLRC at Belle Vue following a truly memorable race with Bruce Penhall. Tiger was a fantastic team man as well and led the Witches to back to back titles in 1975 and 1976. A true legend of the sport. My condolences to Chris and all the Louis family. R.I.P. Tiger Louis!1 point

From what I saw on Good Friday the 2 lowest points on the track are the two most crucial i.e. entry to turns 1 and 3, this is where any excess water gathers and isn't draining properly, leaving the material in to the turns spongy and excessively grippy1 point

Would you care to list and provide details of these "several occasions" you refer to? My memory isn't as good as it used to be. That aside, all the very best to young Max. A rider who I first saw pootling around Owlerton as Sheffield mascot and whose scores I followed from a very early stage of his career, even more so after discovering he was a Wayne Carter protégé. One of the few riders who can say they've won a race with a broken leg! Was absolutely delighted when he signed for the Monarchs in 2015. One of the most entertaining riders to watch at sunny Armadale. There were quite a few meetings when he achieved more successful passing manoeuvres than the rest of the riders put together. Mundane fixtures could be brought to life when Max was on track. Granted, he could also be quite frustrating to watch at times. While there was no doubting his talents, his generally poor gating did appear to hinder his scoring, especially on away tracks. However, I always defended him when others seemed intent on criticism. An excellent servant to the clubs he rode for throughout his career. Pleased he collected so many medals, team and individual, and I hope he has lots of happy memories to look back on from his time in the sport. Good luck Max1 point

Yes the route to get to the 3rd/4th bends is not great, but I am reading that it is being solved this week. Probably allowing fans in the straight part and having gates when the bikes are going on or off the track between races.1 point

Had the most unfortunate experience of going to this meeting today and what a total waste of time. Firstly I would like to know if the start marshalls have any form of training or have to attend any form of seminar. Do they have to understand the rules? A pre start shower definitely affected the track and rider performances but how can you try to explain to a group of 7 newbies about tractor racing for 20 minutes. Total farce of a meeting and Belle Vue should be ashamed of how they dealt with such a farce. Credit to the riders who actually tried in difficult circumstances, but others need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask themselves do I really want to do this!1 point

The fact that any fan wants to walk away should be a concern ! For every one that says they are walking away there are 10 just doing it without so much as a bye or leave. this is where the problem lies with the NDL people keep trotting out this line ‘it’s only a training league’ okay then make it free. People are expected to pay good money they would like to see a return on that investment. with regards to the riders, it’s easy to belittle the league but, they take it very seriously as they want to progress but unless the powers that be stop using it as a political football and focus on making it a league that riders can be proud to be part of then the higher league clubs will carry on having to fly riders half way round the world at great cost. end of chat1 point

I remember a situation, not sure how long ago, when Buster spent ages on the Lynn track to get it ready, but riders refused to race (fans already in the stadium). So perhaps he's had a change of attitude towards what sort of tracks riders will race on. I won't criticise a club for calling a meeting off early, as of they get it wrong, that's far more preferable than letting the fans on for no racing.1 point

Before the day itself I don’t think there is a forecaster that is more reliable than any of the others. The BBC seem to be very pessimistic with sometimes rain nearly all day, everyday. Of course given the current weather they will be right a fair bit of the time. I would say the Met Office is a bit less pessimistic and they seem to forecast less rain than the BBC. On the day itself I use AccuWeather as I find a combination of their rainfall radar and minutecast to be quite useful.1 point

I think we've all done something like that. In the very early 1960's 4 of us drove a similar distance in a very ancient Austin Sheerline which did about 20mpg to Poole for meeting , only to be greeted at the carpark entrance by an attendant who explained the meeting had been called off. As for madness/passion/dedication? I would say all three.1 point

If you actually read the press release, Elliot is too busy running his new car business for speedway at present and it’s by mutual agreement that he steps down.1 point

I didn't believe it at first considering how many young riders 'announced their retirement' over Facebook on 1st April... I assume in Archie's case it's true though as he hasn't said April fools yet...1 point

A decent issue of the bumper edition my only personal gripe is that the National league didn’t have the same cover as the premiership and championship they usually do but maybe with less teams they didn’t bother.1 point

I noticed that, just the ice speedway.. Landshut in Polish third tier. League fixtures for Poland, Sweden, Denmark, also Czech, Italy, France, Norway. As it said speedway is being overtaken by flat-track in most countries. The Star is still a good magazine for what is now a minority sport, still clinging on, sales must be well below what they were 50 years ago, in speedway's heyday. We're fortunate to still see it on sale in major supermarkets.1 point
