  1. No need for “tinted glasses “ at Ipswich. They actually make an effort to get meetings on. They uploaded photos from mid afternoon last year of the track literally under water, but worked their boll0cks off to get the meeting on by 7.30. Same last week, heavy showers on and off all day, if that had been Norfolk you could guarantee it would have been called, but not at Ipswich. The like of Bagpuss who seems to defend his club to the death need to call out his club for once. They’re currently a pathetically ran Speedway club who need a dry week and completely dry forecast on race day to let a meeting go ahead, seemingly because they can’t be @rsed doing any track work if any rain falls. Stop trying to defend the indefensible. If it’s not the weather it’s telling lies about broken pit gate locks because half your team is away on Danish duty. Pathetic club, Lynn fans should be embarrassed. There has been an identical forecast in Ipswich as Norfolk for today. Early morning torrential rain flooded the roads, forecast is off and on showers for the rest of the day. Have Ipswich called it off? No. It may well get postponed if and when more rain falls, but you can guarantee that when it gets called there was zero chance of it going ahead. But that won’t prove Lynn correct and Ipswich wrong. Ipswich are simply prepared to do all it takes and work hard to get a meeting on, Lynn clearly can’t be bothered!!!

  2. I think we've all done something like that. In the very early 1960's 4 of us drove a similar distance in a very ancient Austin Sheerline which did about 20mpg to Poole for meeting , only to be greeted at the carpark entrance by an attendant who explained the meeting had been called off. As for madness/passion/dedication? I would say all three.

  3. It's always a damned if you do/don't scenario....as a kid I'd have been gutted...but, as an 'old-git', financial costs, plus entertainment value are more prevalent, so 'caution' always wins the day for me. A nostalgic memory.... As a 7 year old (1974) my dad took me to watch B'ham away at Barrow...(mid-week- 350 mile round trip) only for it to be called off when we got there ! Madness/passion/dedication....take your pick!

  5. Yeah his form.picked up when he had no pressure riding at no.2 with bomber. Go back and look at the skelpings we took at Poole previously and Oxford and Redcar in the KO cup when riding at 5. Nothing against the lad was a good signing but assumption was he'd be similar progression as basso, and he just wasn't. As discussed the move away will no doubt do him good without the weekend rush to Poland every Friday night/ Saturday morning. Best of luck to him

  6. I imagine the 2 o clock post was arranged a few days ago and scheduled for that time. What are they supposed to do, not advertise the meeting at all?

  8. Correct decision taken - been raining constantly since about 6ish - no chance this could have been on

  9. Nope we lost to a better team. Glasgow had chosen wisely with Tarasenko and Anders being injured cost us.

  10. I certainly don't defend my club 'to death', I've criticised them plenty in the past for poor teams and poor racing, which weve had plenty of. The main difference is the dirt used at Lynn, its high in clay for the stocks and certainly isn't my cup of tea and with a decent amount of rain on it it soon becomes unridable. And as has been said on that thread I don’t think flying loads of riders in with a dodgy forecast to not ride two weeks running was going to happen, But there we are, it's all about opinions at the end of the day

  15. I don't think any club should be castigated for making an early call if they genuinely think there's a risk of being rained off, even the unpopular ones

  16. So the reigning Champions from the 2023 season are set to take on the Champions from 9 seasons ago, the last time they won a team trophy, and it looks like they are bottling it already playing the "track is too wet card"

  18. It wouldn't, but years ago bikes could be ridden in any conditions, riders were prepared to ride in any conditions and the public turned up in any conditions. It's frustrating but I'd much rather an early call than pay to get in and see Buster going round and round with the blade while fourteen riders who have no intention of riding anyway stand about with arms folded looking miserably at the track and the sky. Been there, done that too many times.

  21. I think they have been unlucky. It’s been dry where I live about 6 miles away but it was much wetter near the stadium. I assume they got hit by a heavy localised shower.

  23. So you are one of the Lemony snicket lickers and a to boost. If it is Amateur Level then we are being robbed, it should be free It does not matter where I sat, if you have a bad back a like you will not mind paying for 2 seats then. Wolverhampton has closed unfortunately Well if you understand half of the garbage that comes out of a horses mouth well good for you, 99.9% can not understand horse talk

  26. I remember a situation, not sure how long ago, when Buster spent ages on the Lynn track to get it ready, but riders refused to race (fans already in the stadium). So perhaps he's had a change of attitude towards what sort of tracks riders will race on. I won't criticise a club for calling a meeting off early, as of they get it wrong, that's far more preferable than letting the fans on for no racing.

  36. I never know which forecast to look at.Very often I've used the met office and BBc and quite often their forecasts change regularly the closer they get to the day.The times they have both got my hopes up only to be let down by their updated forecasts nearer the time of a meeting. Does anyone know or think they know which is the best weather app to use.Currently i am using wetter.com but that's pretty much the same. Edit:Been a lot of rain here on the outskirts of Wisbech overnight.Maybe the same over Lynn?

  37. Did Tom not get 9+2 and 9+1 in the grand final win last year? Would of thought that was a pretty good return and certainly not absent when it really mattered. I do think the biggest reason was probably the travelling which seemed to take its toll at times and the move to Poole will move him up a notch again.

  38. This is a good point, I suspect the risk of paying to fly riders in for a second rain off in eight days was too great to take.

  39. After calling off a few meetings last year when all the fans were in the stadium, you'd think Oxford would be praised for calling it off early? As they are racing in all 3 leagues, there's no way they want any postponements, so they must have been sure the track wasn't raceable.

See how he adapts to the Ice.

  46. I'll repost this: The current rider shortage of UK riders is down to one thing Grasstrack both adult & schoolboy it has become almost none exististent in the UK & that is where 80% of all British riders came from. The BSPL should work with the ACU to encourage a revival of ACU clubs to run Grasstrack meetings.

  47. The speedway stopped because Mr Russell decided to hold hands with Sir Osbourne and agree speedway was not viable!! Make a noise about building a new stadium 'somewhere' in the Swindon area, we have heard it all before. Osbourne has now created a real tail of not following through with his words - Reading, Swindon, Torquay and his involvement in the Coventry hearing all against our sport. Oxford was a clear business opportunity, a 10 year lease by the new landlord and invest and look what happens. This is what should have happened when you have a greyhound investor wanting to work with speedway, and I hope we one day get a landlord at Poole like Oxford. Clearly he has no intention in investing in any sites he leases, and just wants to run all his sites down until they are in a state of financial difficulty and then try and push through for building. He has now shown his card so many times and if he comes for Poole, rest assured he will have a fight on his hands as I wouldn't trust a word the man says now. BCP will meet a wall if they try and force anything under hand, they tried it in the winter of 1995 and very quickly backed down. People may say they don't have any money but this is one site and you can't keep selling all your assets to balance your books. What happens when you have no assets to sell? I know central government get more involved in councils over selling assets which we have seen in Bournemouth, Southampton and Portsmouth in the past 12 months. For Poole I hope he ends his lease early and gives to a consortium of local business people that actually have the future of Poole Stadium at the heart, and know the local area and what it needs to prosper. But why would he? he gets money from parking (NHS) and normal parking, kids nursery, ambulance HQ and speedway for doing very little, but the lack of investment in the site is starting to show. The stadium could be transformed into a local hub with the right people involved. I feel for all Swindon supporters we need you back in the league but with Osbourne no-where to be seen in the setup, the man cannot be trusted.

  48. Well that turned out to be an interesting night. I left home ( about 10 mins from the track) at about 6.30. It had been a glorious day, none of the predicted showers had appeared thus far. A minute or so into the journey, the rain started to spot on the windscreen. Looking at the sky, most of it was clear, but off to the south the sky looked black and was slowly approaching. Within seconds it was torrential, ever the optimist, I continued on, there was always the chance the rain could miss, and sure enough by the time I passed the Riverside stadium I was in clear skies and the road was bone dry, although off to the right there was a clear dividing line between clear sky and torrential rain. As I got nearer to the Ecco arena, I started to see all the cars parked on the main road, and then I realised it was a Bank holiday weekend. Fridays on a bank holiday weekend. can be chaotic, especially if there are other events taking place at Moto X or Kart tracks as well. With yesterday also being a bank holiday as , it was even worse, most of the car park was taken up by large vans & motor homes etc. Being of limited mobility, parking on the main road is not an option, so I made my way to the car park entrance, and was informed that parking was limited, but there might be an odd space. I made my way through the car park just as the rain was reaching the arena, by the time I found a parking spot the rain had got heavier. Not wishing to get wet I decided to wait in the car in the hope the rain would pass over quickly. It didn’t pass over quickly, it got worse. I could see that everyone in the stadium had made their way to any available cover. I sat in the car waiting more in hope than anything else. Eventually, it dawned on me, the chances of the meeting taking place was fast diminishing so I decided to cut my losses and go home. When I got home just after 7.30 I checked the updates site to see the meeting start had been put back to 8.00pm, followed by a further update a few minutes later to say the meeting was Off. Decision vindicated. Normally, when I go to the Speedway, the wife and daughter settle down and watch a movie, so yesterday I had the double whammy of not getting to meet up with two friends who only get to Redcar a few times a year, and having to put up watching the last hour of a s*** movie called Black Adam, so not a “Good” Friday for me. The trials and tribulations of being a speedway fan, eh. but I still love the sport.
