  1. Doyle's Mrs has had all winter to give birth but had to wait until the season starts............

  2. Stay real? Have a word with yourself. If that was the case then every Sky Sports interview post match would be full of expletives, especially this season with the state of VAR. There isn't, those professional footballers check themselves in front of the cameras, anybody with any level of common sense would. Swearing is not 'staying real' it's embarrassing in a professional media press day. As others have said, in the heat of the moment after crashing you forgive them to a degree if emotion gets the better of them when a camera is stuck in their face. But, in that setting yesterday no, and with Woffinden I actually get the impression at times he does it deliberately, which is also not 'staying real' it's pathetic. Now don't get me wrong, I swear all the time. especially at the City Ground, but I check myself when appropriate, i.e. kids around or I am doing media interviews (done a few).... it's not rocket science.

  5. Can’t say the swearing bothered me, but I hope any parents letting their little kids watch it will censor the broadcast. One thing that I thought let the production down slightly was the mic that the 7 riders were handed to respond to questions - could barely make out what was being said.

  6. And Tai's good point, about what gets the most views, is lost because of his delivery. We all know all the key promoters of the past encouraged their riders to put on a show, to encourage apparent controversy. However, in my view, his inability to hardly speak a sentence without swearing has become the talking point - rather than the launch of the season in a more professional way.

  7. He's come across as a poundshop version of Conor McGregor in the last few years. The only time he's shown any aggression on the track since his last WC is when he upended that Polish lad from behind who had got on the track.

  8. The swearing isn't anywhere near as bad as the hypocrisy. Must be a case of too many bashes to the head bringing out the true person! He rides like a 90 year-old granny these days and is way too matey with Bartosz Smarzlik.

  9. The split could have been averted in one of two ways. Firstly, a PL team from 1963 could have joined the NL to replace Southampton. (Norwich did not close until the end of 1964). Wolverhampton as reigning PL champions were the 'chosen ones' but there was never any prospect of Mike Parker going down that route. Even if he had been persuaded to do so, Parker was still in expansionist mode and nothing was going to stop him opening new tracks. He had lost part of his empire (an interest in Middlesbrough and Stoke) at the end of 1962 when he and Reg Fearman went their separate ways, so he had some ground to make up. The second option was one league comprising NL and PL tracks. The NL promoters would almost certainly not have wanted Newport and Sunderland to be included, but probably the only way amalgamation could have come about at that point would have been for them to back down and allow the new tracks in. The issue was that the NL promoters believed this would have made the league 'too big'. With Southampton's demise the NL was down to 6 teams. Rayleigh did not stay in the league for 1964 and with the closure of Stoke this reduced the number of tracks to 11. Subsequent events showed that there was no reason why a new league of 19 teams could not have worked, i.e. the 17 remaining tracks from 1963 plus the new ones at Newport and Sunderland. After all, the new British League of 18 tracks in 1965 was increased to 19 in 1966. Glasgow would have opened anyway as it was a relocation of Trevor Redmond's promotion from St Austell. Trevor finally found a (slightly) more permanent home for his team after being based at Neath in 1962 and St Austell in 1963. West Ham would almost certainly have fallen by the wayside as Charles Ochiltree and co. only re-opened the track in 1964 to make the NL numbers up.

  14. Try running Poland with a guest system... The sport ends over there right there and then.. We "need" guests due to the way the teams are set up... For example, less riders per team would mean a surplus of riders to use to replace missing riders.. Put simply, if you haven't enough of a certain level of rider, then don't organise the sport meaning that you need so many... Guests are just an easy cop out, rather than having to find a way of running a team sport "properly".. No matter how it gets "sold", having Bomber, for example, riding for all and sundry, does nothing but devalue and erode the credibility of any competition that he does it in.. If someone like Pawlicki did it in Poland, then the fans, the national company sponsors and the prime time TV coverage (that gets sold to the highest bidder), would disappear in an instant.. It can be truly great to watch Speedway in the UK, but, until it can be taken seriously as a "proper team sport", by fans, media and investors alike, it can never deliver its true (untapped), potential... I think Phil Morris is savvy enough to realise this...

  15. If it wasn't for some fans insisting rider announcements are started even before the previous season ends, then I'm sure teams wouldn't be confirmed/announced until January! Otherwise there is not a lot to promote in the final weeks run up, just as Poole - and others - are finding. Suffice to know that season ticket sales are booming and once again continuing their increasing numbers.

  16. I wouldn't disagree but in the eyes of the law he has served his sentence, anyway I wouldn`t be wasting to much time on this as I can`t see any team going anywhere near Garrity.

  17. Tai has always been one of those riders that's like marmite. Love or hate. I didn't mind the swearing but I understand why some fans will dislike it. I respect anyone who doesn't pretend to be someone there not, having said that he does come across as abit of a knob sometimes. I'm no speedway rider but I'm am a performing musician which has some similarities to speedway. The amount of ass kissing I see in speedway winds me up rotten, just like what I see and hear in the music industry. ' You've got to say this instead of this and never offend anyone' which is a line I hear alot in my industry and its so degrading. Its refreshing to hear someone just say it how it is and not pretend to be someone else. Anyone that goes out there and says what he thinks rather than what they've been told to say always has my respect. When he was at Leicester last year he was ever so friendly to my dad and friends signing autographs. He didn't have to come out to the supporters for a chat, he did cause he wants to, which is what I like to see.

  18. Nothing wrong with a spoons! I mean food isn’t Michelin star stuff but it’s decent and the prices won’t be beaten. Fish and chips and a pint under a tenna, can’t go wrong.

  19. Not bothered by the swearing personally. Was nice to see the riders showing their personalities. But clearly as shown on this thread it wasn't appreciated by everyone and we do have to keep in mind speedway does have an older fan base who are evidently a bit more sensitive to some foul language. Some small bits to work on for the future media days, but I do hope they continue beyond this season. A step in the right direction and a lot of credit needs to be given to Phil Morris and the team involved.

  20. I guess it's because the team is all sorted and nothing much has being going on until P&P next Wednesday. Although Ben has started his season off in a spectacular fashion reaching the finals in both the Charles Wright Testimonial and the Peter Craven Memorial

  21. Totally agree. We love handbags, fisticuffs and controversy during an adrenaline filled meeting. When the adrenaline is running you can accept all this and a bit of swearing. But when you are in the environment they were in today i don't think there was any need for the language used by Woffinden.

  22. I think everybody knows that Woffinden is an absolute tool. So so unlikable. As expected, he spoiled that today. You could visibly see the other riders cringing. As others have said though, well done to Morris for putting this event on and giving it a good go.

  23. Personally, I couldn't agree with you more, but... they do say any publicity is good publicity, rightly or wrongly. It was even mentioned during the conference, actually in Woffy's F bomb outburst bit, that the Emil/Nicholls handbags was the most viewed Speedway content online. People often say, do the talking on the track, but as Woffy doesn't seem to be able to do this anymore, he has to resort to more and more extreme tactics to gain some attention, don't forget he attacked a fan last year, shame he couldn't follow that up with a profound announcement like "When seagulls follow the trawler it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea"

  25. Yes, we are talking about him when the idea was to launch the British season in a new and professional way. How many media outlets or sponsors would now be able to use that content? None I suspect.

  28. Wodjylo would never have caught Thompson so a 5-1 would have been harsh but a 5-0 is just odd when he had no chance of avoiding Kemp.

  29. It seems to me that Drew Kemp mentally beats himself up far too much. On the face of it I'd say he had a pretty decent night tonight, 6 points and a great heat win from reserve despite his off in heat 2. Yet he was still beating himself up for coming 3rd in his last race after the meeting. At this stage of his career he really needs to lighten up a bit imo

  36. Looking at the teams, I genuinely think this is a tough one to call... Leicester's 1-5 looks really solid, but Lynn's reserves could be a trump card... Narrow home win

  42. Tai clearly has a very limited range of vocabulary to call on and expletives are a fundamental part of his rudimentary language skills. I’m not sure he has the ability to behave much differently.

  43. This. I listened to Darren Fletcher (who I remember used to watch Long Eaton) and Phil Morris and then they handed to the gobsh1te, and I had to turn off after a couple of minutes of his arrogance. I knew then he was going to get worse, and reading your comments, that is what happened. Credit where it is due, the event/day is a brilliant step forward and well done Phil for making it a reality. I am sure next seasons will be even better and even more professional. I have hosted events, and I feel ours got better every year because we always tried to learn from what didn't quite work.

  49. NO APPEAL FROM BRANDON ESTATES! As posted by the SCS group. WE have now received official confirmation that stadium owners Brandon Estates have not chosen to pursue a High Court challenge to the outcome of the recent planning inquiry. The appeal against the refusal of planning permission, arising from the November 2022 Planning Committee decision at Rugby Borough Council, was dismissed by inspector Helen Hockenhull in mid-January, after evidence from all parties had been heard last autumn. The remaining option available to the appellants would have been a Judicial Review based on a legal challenge (rather than a challenge to the decision itself). We understand speedway and stock car fans, and local residents, have been eager to know what might happen next, and there has been plenty of speculation; however, we had to wait for a six-week period to expire, which was the window in which the High Court challenge could be submitted. Recent correspondence with the Planning Inspectorate has confirmed there has been no challenge. We are naturally delighted that this marks the end of this particular part of the process, and also that our approach to each stage has been vindicated. We must once again place on record our thanks to everyone from the sporting and local community who stepped up in such spectacular numbers last summer to assist us with the cost of legal representation. Anyone who watched the planning inquiry, and will therefore now understand the way it was conducted, will have seen how being represented in this manner was crucial to our chances of success. Likewise to our witnesses and those who spoke in support of the stadium at the inquiry, your honesty and passion shone through under difficult scrutiny, and it is sincerely appreciated. There is now much for us to consider as a Campaign Group, doubtless with further meetings to be arranged over the coming weeks. At this stage it is too early to give any clear indication over what is to follow, or any timescales, other than to say that at every stage of the planning application we have worked through potential scenarios and considered our strategy under every likely circumstance. We thank everyone for their support – it has been hugely appreciated, and never more so than during the time of the Appeal – and can assure you that with this huge hurdle cleared, we retain an unstinting commitment to get speedway and stock car racing back to their rightful place at Brandon Stadium, and finally bring this saga to an end for the benefit of both the sports and the local community.
