Doyle's Mrs has had all winter to give birth but had to wait until the season starts............6 points

Stay real? Have a word with yourself. If that was the case then every Sky Sports interview post match would be full of expletives, especially this season with the state of VAR. There isn't, those professional footballers check themselves in front of the cameras, anybody with any level of common sense would. Swearing is not 'staying real' it's embarrassing in a professional media press day. As others have said, in the heat of the moment after crashing you forgive them to a degree if emotion gets the better of them when a camera is stuck in their face. But, in that setting yesterday no, and with Woffinden I actually get the impression at times he does it deliberately, which is also not 'staying real' it's pathetic. Now don't get me wrong, I swear all the time. especially at the City Ground, but I check myself when appropriate, i.e. kids around or I am doing media interviews (done a few).... it's not rocket science.4 points

Can’t say the swearing bothered me, but I hope any parents letting their little kids watch it will censor the broadcast. One thing that I thought let the production down slightly was the mic that the 7 riders were handed to respond to questions - could barely make out what was being said.3 points

And Tai's good point, about what gets the most views, is lost because of his delivery. We all know all the key promoters of the past encouraged their riders to put on a show, to encourage apparent controversy. However, in my view, his inability to hardly speak a sentence without swearing has become the talking point - rather than the launch of the season in a more professional way.3 points

He's come across as a poundshop version of Conor McGregor in the last few years. The only time he's shown any aggression on the track since his last WC is when he upended that Polish lad from behind who had got on the track.2 points

The swearing isn't anywhere near as bad as the hypocrisy. Must be a case of too many bashes to the head bringing out the true person! He rides like a 90 year-old granny these days and is way too matey with Bartosz Smarzlik.2 points

The split could have been averted in one of two ways. Firstly, a PL team from 1963 could have joined the NL to replace Southampton. (Norwich did not close until the end of 1964). Wolverhampton as reigning PL champions were the 'chosen ones' but there was never any prospect of Mike Parker going down that route. Even if he had been persuaded to do so, Parker was still in expansionist mode and nothing was going to stop him opening new tracks. He had lost part of his empire (an interest in Middlesbrough and Stoke) at the end of 1962 when he and Reg Fearman went their separate ways, so he had some ground to make up. The second option was one league comprising NL and PL tracks. The NL promoters would almost certainly not have wanted Newport and Sunderland to be included, but probably the only way amalgamation could have come about at that point would have been for them to back down and allow the new tracks in. The issue was that the NL promoters believed this would have made the league 'too big'. With Southampton's demise the NL was down to 6 teams. Rayleigh did not stay in the league for 1964 and with the closure of Stoke this reduced the number of tracks to 11. Subsequent events showed that there was no reason why a new league of 19 teams could not have worked, i.e. the 17 remaining tracks from 1963 plus the new ones at Newport and Sunderland. After all, the new British League of 18 tracks in 1965 was increased to 19 in 1966. Glasgow would have opened anyway as it was a relocation of Trevor Redmond's promotion from St Austell. Trevor finally found a (slightly) more permanent home for his team after being based at Neath in 1962 and St Austell in 1963. West Ham would almost certainly have fallen by the wayside as Charles Ochiltree and co. only re-opened the track in 1964 to make the NL numbers up.2 points

Doyle comfortably the best home rider in the league as the stats show. Rarely beaten at Foxhall. Belle Vue will sniff an opportunity here2 points

Easily dealt with, the powers that be just need to not issue him a licence.....2 points

Try running Poland with a guest system... The sport ends over there right there and then.. We "need" guests due to the way the teams are set up... For example, less riders per team would mean a surplus of riders to use to replace missing riders.. Put simply, if you haven't enough of a certain level of rider, then don't organise the sport meaning that you need so many... Guests are just an easy cop out, rather than having to find a way of running a team sport "properly".. No matter how it gets "sold", having Bomber, for example, riding for all and sundry, does nothing but devalue and erode the credibility of any competition that he does it in.. If someone like Pawlicki did it in Poland, then the fans, the national company sponsors and the prime time TV coverage (that gets sold to the highest bidder), would disappear in an instant.. It can be truly great to watch Speedway in the UK, but, until it can be taken seriously as a "proper team sport", by fans, media and investors alike, it can never deliver its true (untapped), potential... I think Phil Morris is savvy enough to realise this...2 points

If it wasn't for some fans insisting rider announcements are started even before the previous season ends, then I'm sure teams wouldn't be confirmed/announced until January! Otherwise there is not a lot to promote in the final weeks run up, just as Poole - and others - are finding. Suffice to know that season ticket sales are booming and once again continuing their increasing numbers.2 points

I wouldn't disagree but in the eyes of the law he has served his sentence, anyway I wouldn`t be wasting to much time on this as I can`t see any team going anywhere near Garrity.2 points

Tai has always been one of those riders that's like marmite. Love or hate. I didn't mind the swearing but I understand why some fans will dislike it. I respect anyone who doesn't pretend to be someone there not, having said that he does come across as abit of a knob sometimes. I'm no speedway rider but I'm am a performing musician which has some similarities to speedway. The amount of ass kissing I see in speedway winds me up rotten, just like what I see and hear in the music industry. ' You've got to say this instead of this and never offend anyone' which is a line I hear alot in my industry and its so degrading. Its refreshing to hear someone just say it how it is and not pretend to be someone else. Anyone that goes out there and says what he thinks rather than what they've been told to say always has my respect. When he was at Leicester last year he was ever so friendly to my dad and friends signing autographs. He didn't have to come out to the supporters for a chat, he did cause he wants to, which is what I like to see.2 points

Nothing wrong with a spoons! I mean food isn’t Michelin star stuff but it’s decent and the prices won’t be beaten. Fish and chips and a pint under a tenna, can’t go wrong.2 points

Not bothered by the swearing personally. Was nice to see the riders showing their personalities. But clearly as shown on this thread it wasn't appreciated by everyone and we do have to keep in mind speedway does have an older fan base who are evidently a bit more sensitive to some foul language. Some small bits to work on for the future media days, but I do hope they continue beyond this season. A step in the right direction and a lot of credit needs to be given to Phil Morris and the team involved.2 points

I guess it's because the team is all sorted and nothing much has being going on until P&P next Wednesday. Although Ben has started his season off in a spectacular fashion reaching the finals in both the Charles Wright Testimonial and the Peter Craven Memorial2 points

Totally agree. We love handbags, fisticuffs and controversy during an adrenaline filled meeting. When the adrenaline is running you can accept all this and a bit of swearing. But when you are in the environment they were in today i don't think there was any need for the language used by Woffinden.2 points
-
I think everybody knows that Woffinden is an absolute tool. So so unlikable. As expected, he spoiled that today. You could visibly see the other riders cringing. As others have said though, well done to Morris for putting this event on and giving it a good go.2 points
-
Personally, I couldn't agree with you more, but... they do say any publicity is good publicity, rightly or wrongly. It was even mentioned during the conference, actually in Woffy's F bomb outburst bit, that the Emil/Nicholls handbags was the most viewed Speedway content online. People often say, do the talking on the track, but as Woffy doesn't seem to be able to do this anymore, he has to resort to more and more extreme tactics to gain some attention, don't forget he attacked a fan last year, shame he couldn't follow that up with a profound announcement like "When seagulls follow the trawler it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea"2 points

Yes, we are talking about him when the idea was to launch the British season in a new and professional way. How many media outlets or sponsors would now be able to use that content? None I suspect.2 points

That's already happend, both Pawlicki & Milik signed on higher assessed averages this year.2 points

Very close meeting as many predicted. Woffy EF and C Holders fall cost us in the end but as a tigers fan I’ll take that, sets us up for the bonus point at owlerton. Janowski will come good for Oxford i don’t think it’s his type of track he will be very useful away. Great to see Wright back to his best always a rider who gives 100% especially after coming back from a bad injury. The terraces were full I hope Oxford fans keep showing up in those numbers a great addition to the prem. Think we’ve blown the cobwebs off now and can see us winning at Birmingham Monday (weather permitting)1 point

More than likely speedway alone would not be able to provide the necessary financial resource to support any form of worthwhile development. The answer is more likely along the lines of BE being a partner in developing the site as a National Motor Sport facility with funding being provided by the combined financial involvement from the likes of various motor sport governing bodies, Local Authorities, National lottery and private/commercial enterprises, leading to BE exiting the partnership at some reagreed stage having made an acceptable profit.1 point

Hoping so. 3 of us coming from Lynn tonight. Looking forward to a good meeting. Difficult one to call with it being both teams first meeting. My gut feeling is Leicester will have too much for us, but hopefully we'll put on a decent performance and hit at least 40. I predicted 49-41 to Leicester on the podcast so better stick with that.1 point

I'm of the older fan base, I hear swearing on the streets etc I don't like it but I accept its now part of life but when a Media day is to promote something as a sport for all to watch the excessive swearing used by Tai was unacceptable. His comments about punch ups on track and how they the riders should be paid/applauded as they put the viewing figures through the roof were also out of order. If there's an incident on track and in the heat of the moment riders resort to fisticufs it happens so be it, let the referee put it in his report etc but to use it to promote speedway is wrong. Phil Morris should hold more media days, with louder microphones, but have a word with riders/participants first about what is or is not acceptable, surely people can make a relevant point minus the bad language.1 point

Not even his 'mistake' he's just a little rat and he needs to stay the hell away from the sport... Would other riders really feel safe on the track with him...1 point

I am a massive fan of Plymouth... But if Garrity did go anywhere near this team (or any other) then I'd refuse to visit ever again, and I assume I wouldn't be the only one... I guess the posts above are false though (or so I hope)1 point

Go watch lawn bowls I think. It is speedway....not an interview for a place at Eton College. Sport in general, including speedway needs to lose the utter nonsense that restricts characters due to them being polished robots to suit the corporate image of some brand sponsor. We need characters like the days of James Hunt, Barry Sheene etc etc. Sport should be breathing space from all the corporate crap that is forced down our neck every day. Well done Tai Woffinden...more swearing please and stay real mate.1 point

Well, I think he's very big and very clever After all, we're all talking about him (again) and that's what he wants. How many of you can remember what everybody else had to say? I must admit though I do like Jack Holder's style more, he's got the cheeky arrogance, with his finger waving and all that, just a little less X rated.1 point

I've always liked Tai up until a few years ago.He does try to up the profile of speedway. But why does he have to constantly swear at an event like this when,as Phil Morris said they are trying to make it look more professional here. The actual swearing doesn't bother me,i just worry about the impression it may give out to today's generation of people.I understand a few slips of the tongue from a few Poles or other nationalities where English isn't their first language. I have really enjoyed this press conference though.1 point

I thought it was a bit strange when I first heard that Doyley wasn't going to be there. I'm not a huge fan of him but have a massive amount of respect for him. He always shows up and gives his all and has always stuck by speedway in this country. His wife going into labour is a perfectly reasonable reason not to be there however, and I would like to congratulate him and his wife Tai Woffinden's comment of the rest of the league looks like they're gonna go have fun but no one is better than Sheffield so they're gonna win it again... Wow right in front of everyone. He's not got much respect has he. Hopefully every single number 1 and 5 in the league comes and batters him every week.....1 point

Great News - People investing in British Speedway - Lets hope some Whopper Sponsor/s are encouraged to come on board now for Premiership League and for clubs. This is in my view is how the sport can thrive again. Its about the money. If Premiership continues to be rebuilt and we have 10 + teams in it doing well then success can follow on its coat tails for lower league/s too and snowball from there. This is the Polish model and Ekstraliga. Where was that 30 years ago ? They built that to a super league and rest history. Speedway now a top sport in Poland with massive sponsorship. Phil Morris is making a difference and steering in right direction.1 point

I think we all understant that is a possibility, & as the latest update states the group have"considered their strategy under every likely circumstance". However you view the situation there can be no doubt that the group have performed a minor miracle getting us this far, with huge support from the council, MP's , the residents of the local area, &supporters from UK and futher afield and deserve massive credit for what has been achieved to date.1 point
