That was an absolutely brilliant meeting and the Redcar track is awesome. Well done to the Redcar Owners and staff.5 points

Damp overnight but nothing much. Track covers are going down just in case , small shower forecast but shouldn't be any major issues.2 points

Not really. It won't be set up as the home riders want it. Although good riders should adapt quickly.1 point

In that case: good call. I recall a British F1GP at Silverstone, 1994 / 95? can't be bothered to check, was held at Easter instead of July - and it rained, a lot. Spectators spent all day having cars towed out of quagmire car park, didn't sound fun, Worky don't need that for 1st 'Division 2' level meeting....1 point

Hope your right but one clear printing error in that article is putting in laps around Northside, apparently he not been anywhere near Northside for quite a long time and not there today either for practice.1 point

True there alot of championship riders there but like you said, magic, Klindt and Tungate are new to Oxford. Will take time I think to get a real idea of how everything will shape up1 point

I am sure when I was younger if a promoter wanted to call a meeting off, they had to get a local ref to come along and confirm the track was unridable at that point, not what it might be like in 2 hours time, 10 hours times or 1 days time. However, the riders are by no means the innocent party in all of this, they have conditioned promoters to call meetings off earlier than they would have previously because they (the promoter) knows if the track isn’t perfect, the riders will simply refuse to race and force a cancellation that way. And the riders have that attitude because the bikes now can only be ridden at full throttle and there is no leeway. Recently in the star they had a piece on the silencers affecting the bikes, we had it with the solid block tyres, we have recently had it with the Anlas tyres being rubbish, why is the sport constantly going backwards in terms of the bikes? They are making the sport more expensive, less safe and less of a spectacle. I can’t think of one single benefit the modern speedway bikes have brought to the sport.1 point

I presume you are talking about social media / elsewhere as I haven't seen anybody getting carried away on here. It was just nice to see Brum being competitive and not getting thrashed as that won't do them or the league any good. Nearly everybody thinks they'll be 7th and I don't think the other night changes that too much1 point

The main issue is that they have to try and "get in early" before Poland kicks off.. That way they are (almost), guaranteed that "the top lads" are available.. By May, the Polish leagues would be well under way, and those teams doing less well in particular, would be doing what they could to improve their situations.. Plenty of practice sessions and doctors notes have been sorted before.... And, as we know, in this country, it can rain at any time of the year..1 point

What do you want them to do? If they haven't signed anyone, they haven't signed anyone. The rider has to be right for Workington, that's financially (I guess that's the main one), points wise, availability and the right "fit" for the team.1 point

Many thanks for publishing these very interesting articles. On the point of your team black days and heavy defeats. This is a quirky one for my team Wimbledon. On 11 May 1979 Wimbledon won 56-22 at Hackney (this was a new BL away win record). In the BL match the following season on 23 May 1980 Hackney beat Wimbledon, at home 56-22.1 point

My personal opinion is that it was as much rider error as track conditions. Had there been multiple falls then I would say track conditions were a major factor but the track had been hard packed & dispite it looking very wet from the outside it was only surface water. By not putting equipment on it kept the track in fair condition with only the bikes turning the dirt. race times were consistent for the whole 15 races so little or no deteriation to the racing surface occured. Both sides should be congratulated on a great nights racing & the track staff must have worked overtime after the practice day to produce the track we were served.1 point

A bit sad that a genuine, forward-thinking initiative by the League is being dissed by the regular Eeyores on here....1 point

So we had two planned meetings on Thursday. One went ahead on a damp track and the other was called off. Some supporters have said that the meeting that went ahead should have been called off and at the same time others have criticised the promotion who called their meeting off for not trying to run. Seems to me that whatever the two promotions had done they would be told they had done the wrong thing! I constantly read that promoters don't have a clue but when there are only two possible actions in a situation both courses of action are criticised. Maybe this shows just how difficult it is to run a speedway track and maybe we should accept that while we all think we understand how things should be run, we are not the ones who can lose a fortune running the sport.1 point

Rinse and repeat every season, its why I won’t bother with the BSN stuff anymore, not the fault of BSN but promoters constantly take the mick calling meetings off on a whim without making any real effort to get it on.1 point

I would think most punters would think is was a joke if you never called a meeting off because of a bad forcast ... its just common sense1 point

It’s a refreshing Berwick line-up.It will be interesting to see if Schlien and Kerr can win the big Heats at Home. The rest of the Team compare well with the rest of the League in other departments.Should be an interesting season for the fans.1 point

I think we all understant that is a possibility, & as the latest update states the group have"considered their strategy under every likely circumstance". However you view the situation there can be no doubt that the group have performed a minor miracle getting us this far, with huge support from the council, MP's , the residents of the local area, &supporters from UK and futher afield and deserve massive credit for what has been achieved to date.1 point

With the season up and coming I’m gutted I won’t be attending the showground it’s actually just hit home even though not a Peterborough supporter! It’s brought me and my family so many happy speedway memories over the years and wishing one day we will be attending Peterborough again in the future.1 point

Interesting comments from everyone but I think all of our memories play tricks on us at times. The Sad fact is that ALL forms of motor and motorcycle racing are dangerous and people are going to,get hurt at times. Although safety features , notably air fences have enhanced safety , that , in my opinion is cancelled out by the fact that there are far more crashes. I can’t remember a single meeting back in the day when we were 20 minutes into a meeting and had only run two or three heats because of crashes, yet it seems to be a frequent occurrence today. I remember talking to Olle Nygren not long before he died and he was saying that when he was riding he reckoned to do about 100 meetings a year and only fell off once or twice and that “Briggs Mauger and the others were the same” , but these days he reckoned most were falling off more than that every month. Speedway tracks are much harder to land on than most spectators realise. There seems to be little doubt that tuners have got a lot to do with it. You can’t get a quart out of a pint pot , and every time you squeeze more power from the engine you shorten the power band so power comes in more suddenly and unpredictably making the bike more difficult to ride. Incidentally, can anyone update me on what SS said about Graham Miles post accident?1 point

Keep the pressure up on the Council to enforce the Local Plan. If a new stadium is required then AEPG should pay for it. AEPG wants everyone to give up. Don't give up.1 point
