NO APPEAL FROM BRANDON ESTATES! As posted by the SCS group. WE have now received official confirmation that stadium owners Brandon Estates have not chosen to pursue a High Court challenge to the outcome of the recent planning inquiry. The appeal against the refusal of planning permission, arising from the November 2022 Planning Committee decision at Rugby Borough Council, was dismissed by inspector Helen Hockenhull in mid-January, after evidence from all parties had been heard last autumn. The remaining option available to the appellants would have been a Judicial Review based on a legal challenge (rather than a challenge to the decision itself). We understand speedway and stock car fans, and local residents, have been eager to know what might happen next, and there has been plenty of speculation; however, we had to wait for a six-week period to expire, which was the window in which the High Court challenge could be submitted. Recent correspondence with the Planning Inspectorate has confirmed there has been no challenge. We are naturally delighted that this marks the end of this particular part of the process, and also that our approach to each stage has been vindicated. We must once again place on record our thanks to everyone from the sporting and local community who stepped up in such spectacular numbers last summer to assist us with the cost of legal representation. Anyone who watched the planning inquiry, and will therefore now understand the way it was conducted, will have seen how being represented in this manner was crucial to our chances of success. Likewise to our witnesses and those who spoke in support of the stadium at the inquiry, your honesty and passion shone through under difficult scrutiny, and it is sincerely appreciated. There is now much for us to consider as a Campaign Group, doubtless with further meetings to be arranged over the coming weeks. At this stage it is too early to give any clear indication over what is to follow, or any timescales, other than to say that at every stage of the planning application we have worked through potential scenarios and considered our strategy under every likely circumstance. We thank everyone for their support – it has been hugely appreciated, and never more so than during the time of the Appeal – and can assure you that with this huge hurdle cleared, we retain an unstinting commitment to get speedway and stock car racing back to their rightful place at Brandon Stadium, and finally bring this saga to an end for the benefit of both the sports and the local community.5 points

The stupidity of scheduling league matches before April. Problem is the saturated ground that even relatively small amounts of rain will leave water on the top. They never learn3 points

Can only see an Oxfam Wham Bham thank you ma'am, nearly 60 I reckon.3 points

So are Birmingham ... with the team that they had, no way should Oxford have lost this, but with a No.1 who scored, the Brummies should have won instead! Those who forcast 60-30 must be ashamed.2 points

Have to agree with you… Birmingham showed plenty of fight there and I hope their fans repay Nigel tolleys efforts by turning up in their droves.2 points

Good match that. Enjoyed it despite the conditions. leaving the track and not touching it is what’s needed when the base is rock hard but tracks wet. impressed by lampaart2 points

I think we all understant that is a possibility, & as the latest update states the group have"considered their strategy under every likely circumstance". However you view the situation there can be no doubt that the group have performed a minor miracle getting us this far, with huge support from the council, MP's , the residents of the local area, &supporters from UK and futher afield and deserve massive credit for what has been achieved to date.2 points

Big company and a well-known name nationally, can only be very good news. Jewson are part of the (£7.5 billion turnover) STARK group, so this sponsorship links the Bandits (sorry, Jewson Bandits) with a global giant. Launch weekend looms on March 22/23!2 points

Popped in to watch a bit of practice... first thing I'm greeted with under the new regime is Lake Leicester covering the whole of the entrance to the stadium like a moat! Would it have really hurt for somebody to have brushed it all away? There was a big top circus camped next door and some of their punters may have been tempted to have a look at what all of the noise was about... but they'd have to have pole vaulted over it... I really do despair sometimes, same old speedway, smh. Perhaps that was @davieb1 's job Other than that, good to see, hear and smell the bikes again.2 points

Going back in time to surely promoters had more sense, than now. Why on earth are every team trying to start the season too early. Postponements rife already and who wants to watch sub standard racing in poor conditions. Not only do the paying public suffer, the riders costs are escalated with all the cleaning and maintenance of the bikes. By the way, when do all the other smart countries start their seasons.1 point

Perhaps Sam can take you along to break the news to the riders? "Hey Leon, go out there lad, and screw your chances of earning some points money, I want you to touch the tapes so that someone else can get the chance to earn some more money instead. Be a good lad a and do as you're told, there's a good boy!" I'm sure you'd relish that job, eh?1 point

Protected race for RS.I think they can only be replaced in ht 8 if they get injured in one of the previous races.1 point

This Berwick team is one that could do very well. Good top 2. Etheridge capable of maximums at home (helps with aggregate wins) two improving Brits at second string & Borke at reserve who should do better at Shielfield than he did at Armadale. If everything goes to plan, they're good enough to challenge for the title.1 point

Of course they can. I don’t think anybody (SoS) is under the illusion that they don’t have that option. However as has been stated before any new application would have take full account of the inspectors decision around the stadium not being surplus to requirements and the many other issues highlighted by her1 point

I'd also question the need to include the word "female". Would Stewart Dickson be called "male promoter"? Dodgy1 point

Track covers aren't going to save every meeting, but they certainly will when there is just 1 band of rain sweeping across the country, which is often the case. Complete rain outs they're never going to save. You would have needed a small dingy to have crossed the massive lake in front of the entrance anyway1 point
-
Another case for track covers with rain due to only be between 4 and 6... yet again all of a clubs efforts into an opening night gone to waste!1 point

Why would anyone moan about the price? Last season Championship streaming was £11.99 so only £1 more!1 point

No doubt people will moan about the price, but I think it is good value for money. Well done to Leicester for allowing fans who can't travel to the stadium a way of watching.1 point

Starting to think Tolley is a bit of a dreamer with his Alexandra Stadium story. It’s a pie in the sky story IMO.Money seems no object, yet he can’t persuade Top riders into the Club as it is.1 point

The last few words will give many a Panthers fans a chuckle , its taken from the Lynn Premiership preview on the British Speedway website "It is perhaps little surprise that there is a healthy former Peterborough contingent in the Lynn team of 2024, which was a logical move when it became clear that the site owners were giving the Panthers no prospect of continuing at the Showground despite the extensive efforts of Keith Chapman and his team."1 point

Starting Bloody hell, been in a box for 6 months? There's a battle going on to ensure that that isn't a permanent situation. Focus on that rather than the direction Butterfield and Chapman tried to engineer!1 point
