I wonder if Plymouth are going to get Mark Clattenburg at some meetings to say 'Gladiators ready!...' before each race. I would pay to watch that!3 points

They’re starting early to ensure that all of those blank weeks in the middle of the summer when it’s lovely weather outside and prime conditions for speedway, everybody can sit round and do nothing to allow for 3 matches in a week and double headers in September and October. All part of the plan!2 points

Totally agree, even if British Speedway is very against an agreement over giving up Thursdays, if the alternative is losing multiple riders, can't see a suitable alternative. However you can be sure, the fixture list could be changed at short notice due to TV requirements or rained off meetings. Maybe allow Prem matches on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays? At the end of the day as long as Poland pay more they can get away with it. British Speedway had the same attitude in the 70s & 80s.2 points

Interview with one of the bravest of the brave. Incredible details I wasn't aware of. If it doesn't make you cry then I doubt you have any emotion. Ultimately though a story of incredible bravery, hope, determination and fortitude over the most awful injuries. Respect for all concerned.1 point

I'm trying to organise a speedway trip to the " Twisted Too " bar and grill in Roseville. Anybody interested, I bet the Mayor would organise a special welcome. If interested send money to my mate in Nigeria (he's a prince!!!)1 point

I’m sure Glasgow would host one, if we could arrange it. We’ve hosted a match against Poland too, and they’ve been well attended. No FIM event up here again this year, so it would be our best opportunity of a high-exposure (for speedway) event.1 point

One big league for me, with rider numbers in each team to suit rider availability, 6 rider teams or whatever. Clubs to run on the night of their choosing. The 7 team PL is a joke and the CL is fast approaching the same quantity so the time is right for OBL imo1 point

Admittedly my nearest track is about an hour and a half away from me now, but I havn’t been to a single speedway match since Somerset closed down. I travelled all over the country and beyond to away matches for a number of years. I’ll watch it on the TV, especially Polish leagues, but half of the appeal of going every week and paying admission was to watch my team.1 point

In this scenario, I don’t think that is actually the case. He is now due to be missing sparring meetings in Poland and other parts of their fitness preparations for the new season. That’s going some just to avoid Perry Barr at all costs in March!1 point

Quite interesting that as i said on anther thread 'Lammy' was in the US known as 'The Frenchman' or 'Flying Frenchman' etc But looking at the internet his family were Americans going back a number of generations. Even Josiah's father doesn't particularly sound French.....Joshua !! Found further back to the French ancestor Andre Lamoreaux 3rd November 1663 in Cozes, Saintonge, France. Andre was a Hugenot André Lamoureaux was a shipmaster and pilot of the small port of Méché (now Meschers-sur-Gironde) in the province of Saintonge (now Charente-Maritime) France, near the mouth of Gironde river and between La Rochelle and Bordeaux. Accompanied by his wife Suzanne LaTour and two children, Elizabeth and Jacques, he made his way to the port of Bristol, England where the sturdy shipmasters of the western coast of France had established a thriving trade. Bristol, England The records of the little French church which the fugitives promptly organized in Bristol show that the colony maintained itself there for many years. Unlike the larger and better known colony in London, it did not attract to itself the refugees of gentle birth and position, but rather those whose commercial and seafaring occupations had made them acquainted with this part of England. Among these it is permissible to presume that André Lamoureaux was a man of exceptional strength of character and influence. The fact that he was a pilot on the dangerous coast of western France is evidence of the first and the frequent appearance of his name in the records of other members of the colony warrants the second conclusion. The last record of André Lamoureaux in the French church of Bristol was dated March 25, 1695, when he signed as a witness to the marriage of two friends, Gedoq-Roy. Naturalization Application and Emigration Apparently in anticipation of his emigration to America, André Lamoureaux took out denization, or naturalization, papers 22 June 1694, for himself, wife, and two children, Elizabeth and Judith. This was by a special act of Parliament, no general act then being in force. From this it will be seen that André arrived in New York early in the year 1700, or in the preceding year. Jan 7, 1694, christened a son Daniel, born Dec 24, 1693, and who appears to have died soon after. Dec 1, 1695, they christened son Daniel, born Nov 29, 1695, who is the ancestor of the many hundred of the name now scattered over the United States and Canada. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lamoreaux-49 Well worth a look. Particularly at The Pirate Letter'.. Daniel Lamoreaux snr was born 29th November 1695 in Bristol, Somerset, England!!! Jean Lamoreaux born on 31 December 1723 in New York City Thomas Lamoreaux was born on 1746 in New Cornwall, Orange County, NY ( Thomas served in the Revolutionary War. He was a Revolutionary soldier, and who during part of the war was a prisoner on one of the Long Island prison ships. He was a Revolutionary War Ensign, serving under Captain Francis Smith and Colonel Woodhull in New York. He also signed articles of Association in Orange County, New York (patriotic service). On 07/30/2018, the National Daughters of the American Revolution placed a marker to honor Thomas Lamoreaux (Lamoreaux) on Tilling Point Farm, Jackson Township, PA. Luzerne County. The marker reads: Revolutionary war soldier & patriot Thomas Lamoreux (Lamoreaux) Ensign, Orange County Militia, NY. Signed Articles of Association. Born Circa 1745 - Died 5 October 1829. Marker Placed by Wyoming Chapter, NSDAR 2017.) Joshua Lamoreaux was born on August 30th 1793 in Chase, Luzerne, Pennsylvania When Josiah Cease Lamoreaux was born on 29 March 1818, in Lehman Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, Joshua B. Lamoreaux, was 24 and his mother, Martha Ives, was 20. He married Ellen Major about 1838. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 2 daughters. He lived in Lehman, Lehman Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States in 1860. He died on 17 May 1896, in Clinton, Illinois, United States, at the age of 78, and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, DeWitt, Illinois, United States. When Thomas Jefferson Lamoreaux was born on 15 February 1858, in Lehman Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, Josiah Cease Lamoreaux, was 39 and his mother, Ellen Major, was 41. He married Anna Bell Horton on 10 February 1892, in Knox, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons. He lived in Lehman, Lehman Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States in 1860. He died on 18 April 1918, in Ellison Township, Warren, Illinois, United States, at the age of 60. And on 21st May 1937 Lammy was riding for Wimbledon in Bristol. So completing the circle back to his ancestor of over 200 years before. I wonder if he knew ?1 point

The last few words will give many a Panthers fans a chuckle , its taken from the Lynn Premiership preview on the British Speedway website "It is perhaps little surprise that there is a healthy former Peterborough contingent in the Lynn team of 2024, which was a logical move when it became clear that the site owners were giving the Panthers no prospect of continuing at the Showground despite the extensive efforts of Keith Chapman and his team."1 point

Sorry to hear about your son's experience I had a great time and made friends for life. I was there 1968-70, and at that time there weren't many Brits around. It was the time of The Beatles etc. and anyone with a British accent had it made (so to speak). No speedway though!!1 point

I guess as the owner they could do anything, but the costs must be mounting up so it really depends how deep their pockets are.1 point

That’s what I was thinking would be easier and I think my team Poole would defo move up that’s the case which is b really happy about.1 point

I’ve seen him racing quite regularly on the Isle of Wight and yes he’s back to full fitness. Tbh all the chat on here has proven that there is hardly anyone available on the right average so I’d give him a chance and then swap Covatti back in if it doesn’t work out1 point

I suppose England will ride on Monday's and Wednesday's in 2025. Will only lose a couple of Danish riders then as nobody else would chose Denmark over Britain.1 point

Maybe Robert Lambert could be signed on a 28 day contract, he might be up for doing a few meetings for the Brummies To seal the deal throw in a medal at the end of the contract and you should have got your man.1 point

It would appear not. The hope is always that every team is competitive so people turn up to watch and don't get demoralised but even though Brum have a very good bottom four I fear for them.1 point

Hmmmmm was it really any better though? Not sure myself, probably seemed it as stadiums were packed full with great atmospheres but the actual action was no better IMO.1 point

Spot on I put the blame totally at their doorstep. They continued to allow Osborne to sell off parcels of land over the years without any sign of a new stadium and never once put the required constraints to achieve that.1 point

Best news in ages....Even if by a miracle Tr and Clark had got a track outside Swindon who would go anyhow..First of all its not Swindon and second who would want to give them two a penny..Hopefully now someone else can take up the fight to find a new home inside.Swindon .1 point

One thing that bben lacking in Swindon is some coordinated group etc who will give us a voice..As you say its just been to easy for him not just by the fans but by the local media.1 point
-
And when you get met with almost zero coordinated, organised protests, then "fair play" to Osbourne as he can take it that... 1. Hardly anyone from the fanbase cares... And. 2. (And possibly most important of alll) the promoters of Swindon and the wider BSP, seem to let him happily do what he wants.... Can't blame him to be honest...1 point

It won’t get rebuilt, the owners should go to prison as they have done this before in Leicester, there will be a bankruptcy somewhere along the line and it won’t get rebuilt1 point

Are you talking about World Finals, or just World Champions? Seeing that you mention Hancock, I would think the latter. Well, the first one that sprang to mind was Tomasz Gollob. He was 39 years and 5 months old when he won in 2010 Tommy Price was 37 years, 9 months and 20 days old (1949) Egon Muller was 34 years, 9 months, and 9 days old (1983). Sam Ermolenko was 32 years, 9 months, and 6 days old (1993). Jason Doyle was 32 years and 22 days old (2017). Anders Michanek was 31 years, 3 months, and 7 days old (1974) Artem Laguta was 31 years and 19 days old (2021). Jack Milne was 30 years, 2 months, and 29 days old (1937). These are the only riders who won their first titles in their 30's.1 point
