  2. There is nothing in the rule book regarding any officials clothing , only the riders. However, it is advisable in their specific job description, for those old enough to have been staff from several years ago when such a document was available.

  4. Yes, I agree. I think Tommy Price was a better rider and more worthy World Champion (twice if you include the 1946 Riders' Championship) than he is generally given credit for. The fact he and Freddie Williams were both Wembley riders and therefore riding at home always seems to mark them down a bit. The "missing years", 1939-1945, are, of course, a field of endless speculation. There are a number of riders who are often touted as losing out on multiple world championships. Tommy, as you mention, but also Vic Duggan, Jack Parker, Cordy Milne, Arthur Atkinson, Eric Chitty, Eric Langton and Aub Lawson in particular. But there were many others who would have been contenders - Lionel Van Praag, Ron Johnson, Bill Kitchen, Jack Milne, Wilbur Lamoreaux....and on and on!

  6. You could well be right, though I think Fricke was better then some others who are in.

  7. Assume that's MT? He doesn't have to, that's the point. If PCC do their job then any planning approval will only be granted when AEPG meet LP36 & LP30 of the Peterborough Local Plan. AEPG are doing their best get out of any responsibility within the local plan to their destruction of an important part of Peterborough's culture and history. An e-mail I received Aug 2023 from the EEAS suggests that AEPG don't really know whether to stick or twist on this? "AEPG may have had discussions with the current speedway operators as well as the local authority regarding the possibility of relocating to another site" Peterborough Speedway would have a much better chance of returning to the track sooner rather than later if someone interested in that objective was the owner. Whether any of those unsubstantiated claims against Chapman ever get answered or clarified I no longer care, but he does himself no favours by continuing hold on to the licence of a club that he has no interest in. A good businessman can negotiate a sensible deal (what is he selling now anyway?) with future eventualities clauses in if the new owners are successful. The fact that he can't or will not do that only feeds the rumour mill.

  8. Not true. Each club can set its own admission policy, some are one rider one mechanic, a lot are one rider one mechanic and one guest . Each club also has its own H&S officer and a Clerk of the Course who should sort any issues out as regards issues in the pits. How they cope at Sheffield always amazed me !

  9. Who cares… Many of the spectators will be young females. It is a positive and refreshing move by the promotion obviously echoed by Workington.

  10. I'd say there is a very good chance that every single one of those riders will be doing the Polish Leagues on a Sunday and therefore unable/unwilling to ride on a Saturday over here.

  11. Maybe I have got rose tinted glasses on but I am making my points as a fan not a rider or more closely a mechanic as I was for over 10 years, all the gear no idea doesn’t attract fans

  12. I wouldn't visit KL even if they had a top three of Zmarzlik, Sayfutdinov and Woffinden. I will never allow myself under any circumstances to line the pockets of a guy who's assisted bully boy's in demolishing our home. Ipswich, Leicester or Scunthorpe which ever local track you choose to visit this forthcoming season you can at least have the comfort in your own mind that you're not caving in to the trap set by Buster to lure you down to the AFA to support familiar faces (That's my logic anyway). If you do go to King's Lynn then Buster wins because he only has to pay for 7 riders instead of 14 whilst getting the biggest attendances he's had at the AFA in recent memory which translates to.......A higher financial income for a lower financial outlay. Never forget that we didn't even have our own funeral before he started signing up most of our 2023 team whilst not even bothering to photoshop images of riders either whilst every other club did when it come to their 2024 signing announcements.

  13. Have said it before, Doyle gets unfair stick. He has given the UK and world speedway nothing but 100 percent since he made his debt in Europe. He raced for Newport in 2011, had a knackered shoulder all season but still give nothing but 100 percent and put off getting surgery until after we had secured the KO cup trophy. Can be a little reckless on track but thats through over trying more than anything else. A brilliant rider and will be hugely missed once he retires. But I reckon thats still a while away and he will almost certainly be in the top 3 averages come the end of the season.

  14. The play offs definitely pull in many fans like me, who are not too bothered about who actually wins or not... It provides many "followers" with a night out at a speedway meeting that actually has decent crowds and, therefore, atmosphere... A bit of a throwback to how it used to be when we all started to follow the sport and loved it.... I really enjoyed both meetings last year I attended that the Aces were in, with good crowds at both Ipswich and the NSS.. Peterborough's Captain then turning up for Sheffield so they could defeat Ipswich in the Final, (after he had made such a fundamental impact in putting Ipswich in the Final), summed up perfectly why you shouldn't take league UK racing too seriously.. An excellent night out are the play offs...

  15. The difference nowadays is that there is actually some world class talent that will be visiting virtually every time you have a meeting... A bit of a novelty maybe, and short term potential rather than a long term sustainable plan, but, in Brums case in particular, it may offer some breathing space to go again next year, even if this years team doesnt trouble the play offs..

  16. Bit late to post this this as he actually passed away on January 9th, but sad to hear the death of Lokeren survivor Garry Hay. Good obituary in this weeks Star. Having escaped with minimal injuries at Lokeren it was so sad when the following Australian season he suffered life changing injuries which left him wheelchair bound. Haven't seen it mentioned on this forum - apologies if it has. RIP Garry AUSTRALIAN SOLO SPEEDWAY RIDER GARY HAY, 77, DIES - Speedway Illustrated News

  17. So pleased he's fired, as good at business as he is at riding speedway - not very.
