  1. After a 4 year hiatus Speedway Champions is back, www.speedwaychampions.yolasite.com - noted the revised url. These are supplemented with the title-holders of other FIM 'Track' disciplines of Sidecar Speedway and Flat Track racing, - official and unofficial - , in both UK and Europe, plus USA and the newer German and Australian events of Krowdrace and 'Aussie Flat Track Nationals' (AFTNs), now granted official Championship status for 2024. 2. With BSPL having spent a large five figure sum on transponders last year they are missing from the rule book this year. This begs the question whether they will be used this year or has money been squandered? Is it just an error which will be rectified by a supplementary regulation?

  5. If there's a rider shortage then having a low limit makes sense, means clubs have to use NL riders to compete. If the limit is higher, the richest clubs can pick more heat leaders & weaker clubs can't compete & we get another league of the haves & have nots like last year. This year's limit seems to have worked well, Plymouth had a team (till an injury occured) and there are plenty sub 6.5 riders for Workington to choose from.

  6. Yeah, having supported 2 tracks, which weren't as wide as would ideally be, esp the Boulevard, 1st bend room at circuits around ball game pitches always at a premium & things can get, dicey, if all 4 arrive together. Been to Shielfield before the banking was added then lockdown era (?) mods to the straights, maybe recent mods are down to Stewart Dickson's arrival, but there doesn't seem to be any more room seen the track work pics on the website. Stiil, the track 'is what it is', you still have speedway in Berwick & come to the tapes every season, obv doing something right (obv) so much credit is due.....

  10. Exactly right, Holder will put 100% into the gp's and Poland, Doyle will put in 100% everywhere.

  11. Transponders are a good idea, true, but surprised priority was given to spend a 'five figure sum' on such things for more accurate race times given the current financial state of speedway in the UK. And, yeh what is the current position re: rev limiters ?....

  12. Transponders bring little to domestic Speedway at the moment. I would have thought that they would have put more emphasis on rev limiters which could save engine wear and therefore maintenance costs.

  14. It was an empty net, central position, two yards out.... He is a proper legend when it comes never letting anyone down.. (And must be due at least a couple of dozen league winners medals combined from both leagues).. Edit: And the same amount of runners up medals too for the same seasons..!!

  17. I was waiting for that one. But seriously. You have to admire the bloke. He was riding for the Rest of the World on Saturday, in California. For anyone just thinking of going tonight, you should. These meetings are always interesting. The Q&A session in particular.

  18. Interesting (to a self-confessed track anorak), why is start line being moved please and where to; forward or back from its current position ? For interest, similar 'football / rugby tracks', as described by Shane Parker, at Hull's Boulevard the S/L was approx half way along the home straight but was moved 10ft or so nearer turn 1 mid 1980 or '81 as the outside starting gate mechanism obscured something relevant to the rugby club (I forget what exactly). At Craven Park the start line was always about 1/3 along the home straight, from turn 1, and remained there throughout. I did say I was a track anorak ....

  19. As some will know, the invaluable Shielfield track staffers are working very hard this spring, moving the start line and changing/upgrading the safety fencing. Less than five weeks to Launch Night/Press'n'practice weekend!

  20. I do think it matters who finishes top. For me the main thing is that you finish in the top 4 to reach the Play Offs. So the top 4 to finish in the Play Offs for me will be in no particular order. Bell Vue Ipswich Leicester Sheffield The winner of the Play Off will be the team that books Bomber Harris as a Guest for the Play Offs.

  22. I have every respect for those who are involved at the Junior Level - riders, mechanics, promoters, fixture compilers etc. etc. My post was tongue in cheek, as, what I meant was that the fixtures wouldn't be much use being issued after the season has started (trying to state the bleeding obvious!!). Sorry if it caused any offence - it was not meant.

  23. The most sensible part of this new idea is that it is only for two meetings, then hopefully it will be dropped.

  24. Believe Neil Vatcher has been looking at arranging fixtures.
