  5. Nothing against any of them, as i have no affiliation to any side, just feel Glasgow will not be as good as people believe I think Plymouth could be the surprise package as their 1-7 are generally good at home so can be some bonus points won, both Thompsons will improve if they stay injury free, Joe i believe scored 7ish guesting at no.3 last season so being at 7 in a weaker league will see him score well Ok Covatti and Barker aren't Harris/Worrall but they are triers which will give them a good chance

  6. They used to do it at Halifax,I was friends with the guy who dished it out.Mind, that's a few years ago now.

  7. I remember Pekka had a habit of winning the reserves race in the 2nd half, then the heat that qualified him for and then a few times the final with some world class riders unable to pass him. In those days the 2nd half was a real event in its own right, often with a sponsored points prize at the end if the season that home heat leaders would really race for. You'd also see away stars wanting to get one over the home riders. Sadly today's breed just want to earn more than Clubs can afford for minimal effort.

  11. I know the stadium is a little 'rustic' and the toilets wouldn't look amiss in a Japanese WWII prison camp but there's no need to flee the country over it!

  13. As someone who supplied methanol to a track and a qualified ‘ DGSA ‘, there’s a lot of rules & regulations regarding storage and transport of dangerous goods which make it restrictive to anyone dealing with it. Clubs have never supplied it , always been from ‘ the spares van ‘ type supplier . No club would want to store thousands of litres of a flammable liquid if they didn’t have too !

  14. For the sake of the sport and all those involved at Birmingham, I really hope that they have a decent season and get some good numbers through the gate.

  15. In Taylor Wimpey's country wide list of house names they also have the "Byford" . They wouldn't would they?

  16. Not sure about the wall story. But he did dislocate his shoulder on numerous occasions. Rick was a real favourite with the Coventry faithful, me included and it's a sad day. RIP Rick

  17. What encouragement does that give a rider without a team place answer none

  18. That's my understanding but this is speedway so could be Aussies or Poles

  19. A very likeable character who partnered Ron Mountford in a Garage in Bloxwich. If my memory serves me right I recall that he had a troublesome shoulder injury that hampered his progress. Didn't he dislocate it one time in a fall at Coventry and put it back in place by running into a wall? (Or something like that?)

  20. Really sad. A very underrated rider, and I'm sure that a lot of modern fans don't know that he was a World Finalist.

  21. Depends what you class as a top rider. Milik isn’t that far from GP standard and has established himself at top level in both Sweden and Poland. Same with Lidsey coming back last season on his old reserve average pre Covid despite establishing himself in the Polish top league for 2 seasons. None of these rulings are ever fair to all clubs. Some gain massively some lose out. That can’t be fair. Surely a sensible yardstick could be their averages from top flight in Poland and Sweden. If you are good enough to average 6-7 points in both leagues then surely 7.50 or 8 would be a better assessment when converting to the UK. As for the signings….. Pawlicki is a rider that has got Monmore within a few heats. A total natural on a considered trick track. I’d go to watch him. Ditto Milik. Thought he would be GP level by now but I find him exciting also. Definetly gonna make a few tricks to PB this season for those 2 alone as well as having some ex Wolves in the side also. I seriously hope the team gels and aren’t as poor as people are predicting. I say that in all seriousness because the Sport, the Midlands and Brummies fans need this team to survive.

  22. No double headers planned and the lad has been very sensible in his deal as he realises the benefit of riding for both Redcar sides. Bearing in mind how many local lads are in the NDL team the club have saved a fair bit anyway.

  23. It is a very practical solution. Presuming Redcar hasn't started to get their track unto speed, it is sensible and more practical to get track time at somewhere near them who will have their track prepped for their amateur meetings. I wouldn't think the racing will amount to much but getting on the track, testing and setting up their bikes and having a bit of opposition as well as a bit of chin wag with their new team mates and management will help them set up their season perfectly. They will certainly be fit physically and mentally with Gavin in charge.

  24. Scunny definitely not over paying based on what was offered and accepted by us. 10 more meetings is the key for us not money or a league title that really dont mean a great deal

  25. There isn’t a written rule regarding pay structure but it’s easy to work out which clubs are paying the larger wages, just look at the predicted finishing order, Edinburgh and Redcar at the bottom and it’s no secret they aren’t paying over the top rates, very sensibly. Clubs have different outlooks on ‘development’ and winning at all costs. Besides , the SCB might just award you a title anyway like last seasons fiasco.

  26. We only made the change because Marcin decided he needed to leave to prioritise his Polish club. No one wanted him to leave. Once he had left, we signed the best rider we could according to the riders available, which happened to be Vadim once it was established Patryk Wojdylo couldn’t be signed. The rules around 5 point averages were queried at the 2022 AGM, so everyone agreeing to the rules understood the ramifications. Maybe they thought it would never happen, but they agreed the rules. No one said the rule was stupid until it was used.

  28. 1. REDCAR (Will start slow due to a couple of riders returning from big injuries but once they get going they'll be difficult to stop) 2. GLASGOW (Top two should clean up and they've gone for tried and tested at reserve instead of 2.00 newcomers so that'll give them an advantage) 3. OXFORD (Top two should clean up like Glasgow, Also got four average improvers in Atkins, Boughen Jenkins and Killeen) 4. SCUNTHORPE (3 experienced HL's, Mountain should improve considering he's D/UP, Lambert should kick on in a weakened league and Ablitt is one of the better reserves in the league) 5. POOLE (The spearhead is good but the tail end of the team as it's too weak, Banking on the top 4 firing on all cylinders to win meetings) 6. BERWICK (Best Berwick side for a good few years but it's still a weak one, Hume is a poor rider, Etheridge doesn't offer much on the road and Schlein isn't riding Prem which will have a negative impact on his race sharpness imo, Kerr as a No.1 isn't tried and tested yet either) 7. WORKINGTON (Great signings in Voulas and Zischke but the Cook/Batchelor 1&5 combo has got disaster written all over it and it'll cost them crucial meetings) 8. EDINBURGH (Poor side and is banking on the same riders improving who let them down last season) 9. PLYMOUTH (Where are the Heat Winners going to come from?)

  30. 1. IPSWICH (Weak links replaced with a GB International on a bargain average and young Brit on the up in Jenkins) 2. SHEFFIELD (Took a gamble by going top heavy but it's worked out like a treat because most teams are going with two young Brits at reserve) 3. OXFORD (Underrated side, Will start slow due to riders coming back from injury but once they get going then this 1-7 will be dangerous, Solid from top to bottom) 4. LEICESTER (Will not lose at Home with too many track specialists and Heat winners in their 1-7, Will nick a couple of wins on the road too against the weaker sides) 5. BELLE VUE (I think it's the weakest side they've put out in a few years, It needs various riders to step up for everything to click and it's one ask too many imo) 6. KING'S LYNN (Will win at Home regularly but away form will be non existent imo) I hope I'm wrong on this last one but..............................BIRMINGHAM (Won't see out the season, The fans will turn up early in the season mainly to watch the oppositions riders but the novelty will soon wear off and they'll walk away leaving it not viable for racing to continue for the rest of the season imo)
