Whilst it's probably not exactly what Birmingham needed.Pawlicki and Milik are still very good experienced riders and have both raced at the top level. Also refreshing to see different faces in the league rather than the same old.4 points

Is it so an 8.25 averaged rider can be used as guest at home? Edit or is it 7.87? Either way, especially for Milik, a good improvement...3 points

At least us King's Lynn fans can get the party poppers out already for finishing 6th.3 points

Because they can always rat on the promise to build a new stadium! Ask, for example, Swindon fans ...3 points

Guaranteed to be winners of the Wooden Spoon with the present 7 riders, the BSPL have even inflated the averages of 2 riders Milik and Lampart to make Birmingham look stronger than what they actually are, this team is simply not good enough and anyone that thinks it is needs to think again. It's admirable that the few Brummie supporters that come on here say that they at least have a team to watch, may I say Speedway is a Sport and as such it's competitive every rider want's to win, most supporters want to watch a winning Team, This team will not bring new fans through the gates, not many Wolves or Cradley fans will come over to watch a Team struggle to win a home meeting, and dare I say this team will also impact on other Teams when Birmingham are the visitors. I fear for Birmingham Speedway because this Team needs leaders, Heat leaders and I can only see one of them, if they can get through the season that will be an achievement in itself.2 points

Exactly, loyal fans do turn up but there just isn’t enough of them. A rubbish team won’t be supported by people out for an enjoyable evening.2 points

No pressure, but if Drew Kemp can step things up, Leicester will be strong contenders. I think that Becker could turn out to be the signing that gives the top 5 another genuine heats 13&15 performer. Hope I am proved wrong, but Masters might be beyond his best years now.2 points

Best the Brummies can hope for is to finish bottom and still be running...terrible side.2 points

N.T has done a sterling job since taking over at B'ham......he's just been 'badly' advised! I'm hoping that the inclusion/advice of Sam/Chris (speedway brains at a higher level..) will round the Team off competitively!2 points

Im confused as to the panic… we have been told by the supreme fountain of knowledge that the team has been signed for months.. Craig Cook told him… he was going to question it but his mouth was full at the time…2 points

Mike Parker was everything you say he was! Speedway certainly would of been in a much worse state if the Provincial League of the early 60's and the new Second Division which started in 1968 hadn't actually occurred! In terms of being a ruthless Businessman closing down tracks, its easy to judge when its not your own money being lost. You can be the biggest speedway enthusiast in the World but continually losing money loses its appeal after a while. Mike Parker obviously got out of running loss making tracks as soon as he could and sold on the profitable ones eventually as well. You've only got to look at the publicised huge losses currently being incurred by Nigel Tolley in keeping speedway going at Birmingham to see that investors looking to make money out of speedway tracks in this Country wouldn't touch the vast majority of tracks with a bargepole. In years to come he won't be getting many plaudits for it as most would of forgotten it or are not around anymore to give them. I take it Mr Tolley must have a very successful Business away from speedway to subsidise the huge losses?2 points

Brum may get 4 reasonable gates when Woffinden & Sayfutdinov roll in to town but the other clubs offer nothing for the home fans to get up for if they're getting wolloped week in week out1 point

FYI. The cost of purchasing the site from the current owner is not factored into the above assessments. Whilst the Council resolved on 14 December 2022 to 'explore options available to bring Brandon Stadium back into use' this has not been acted upon. There is no evidence before me that the Council would consider compulsory purchase. At the Inquiry I heard from a supporter of SCS, that he was prepared to purchase the site and fund the necessary works to secure its reinstatement. He was also proposing to act as promotor for stock car racing at the stadium. Whilst this is very positive, the actual costs of reopening the stadium are uncertain, as is the level of other sponsorship and how much financial risk would be involved. Just watching the news ,councils are cash strapped so doubt they’ll have any spare, the euro millions Friday is the best chance.1 point

A sinner in my opinion as was Bill Bridgett too. I can never forgive them for what they did to Sunderland 'Saints' in 1964. They closed us so that they could strengthen their other two Tracks, namely Newcastle and Wolverhampton by 'divvying up' our riders between them, their reasons given for closing just did not add up. The weather was not great, but, we suffered no 'rain offs'. The crowds were pretty good - I know this for I was there at every match. It is notable that Wolverhampton were bottom of the League at the time of our closure, Newcastle got Ken Sharples and went on to win the League, Wolverhampton finished third in the League that year with a good number of Sunderland riders in their team. Jim Airey, Gordon Guasco and Colin McKee. I am still very bitter and disgusted about the way Sunderland Speedway was treated by the Promoters in 1964.1 point

Come on now... How long have you been following UK Speedway? You know better than to ask questions like that..1 point

I agree with that. FWIW Milik isn’t the disastrous signing of this side - that is Lampart. Milik has now been labelled as a heat leader because of everyone that came before him. If they are forking out for flights etc already for Lampart then they would have been better off using that for someone a damn sight lot better as they had the points spare to do so. Zengota, Smektala, Woryna, Lyager, Huckenbeck etc are all examples of someone who would have been far better than Lampart.1 point

I thought a new stadium is being built? I thought it was the promoters who have thrown in the towel? Although, I'm sure the situation is not as simple as my comment.1 point

His ancient average is irrelevant - a completely different rider now in terms of experience. A not bad signing compared with some of the names that had been bandied about.1 point

Struggling to see what people are seeing in the Belle Vue side that puts them near the top of the league? I think it’s one of the poorer Belle Vue sides assembled for a number of years and based on how they line up currently, I would have them 6th in the league. Poor reserves too. Same goes for Sheffield which could be their downfall especially on nights when Chris Holder or Woffinden don’t fancy it. Oxford has the makings of being a team that could batter any team in the league on their day, but then put up 35 points at home the following night. They are very hard to predict. King’s Lynn are my dark horses, especially if Wojydo hits the ground running. I don’t think they will win the league but they should upset a few. Ipswich are favourites for me by a considerable margin.1 point

It actually suits Birmingham for their riders to be on these averages rather than Pawlicki (7.32), Milk (5.67) & Lampart (5.00) as it means if anyone is missing they'll be able to use stronger guests or r/r. Plus Z.Cook at reserve could be a real trump card. However I don't understand how they can increase the averages of Pawlicki & Milik, but decrease Janowski's, while Pedersen, Kasprzak & Woffinden returned on their old averages. Should rules not be consistent for all?1 point

Probably not, but Zach Cook & Leon Flint could get a 5-1 over Sheffield's reserves in heat 2.1 point

Piotr Pawlicki is one of several Poles who are not quite as good as Janowski & Zmarzlik (not many are) along with Kubera, Dudek, Woźniak. But should be a decent #1 in the Premiership. Pawlicki's generally more entertaining - less reliant on gating - than most Poles. I like Milik, plucky rider, but he's a few levels below the GP's and will struggle in heats 13 & 15 I'd imagine, on the continent he's probably on a par with Musielak... but Musielak's UK form exceeds his continental form.1 point

They are both top riders who averages are good in the Ekstraliga in Poland. If I was a Brum fan I’d be happy with the team lots of potential1 point

The other thing that hurts pay structure is race days. Weekend racing would open things up to a whole host of hobbyists who would be more willing to participate for expenses. However throw in midweek racing and time off work it takes its toll. The costs of putting a bike on track just with basics are high (tyres, oil, fuel) then other short term consumables (clutch plates, chains). Im not saying wage demands are always justified but NDL clubs are expecting GP equipment for reduced wages.1 point

Other riders who within the remaining average allowance and have been on these shores the last couple of years Jonas Knudsen 5.39 Anders Rowe 5.95 Broc Nicol 5.95 Dillon Ruml 5.47 Hans Andersen 6.32 Ricky Wells 5.20 Nikolai Busk Jacobsen 6.34 Danny Gappmeier 5.94 Kasper Anderson 4.10 Theo pijper 4.43 James Wright 5.24 Out of these Anders Rowe seems the man most likely to be going places but not sure of his commitments on the continent1 point

I think he sold up his last track in the 80s so he was in speedway for about a quarter of a century, which suggests that he had a feel for the sport. He was the driving force behind both the PL and BL Division 2, without which it's difficult to see how the sport could have enjoyed it's last golden period in the 60s and 70s.1 point

Signing Douglas is possibly the stand out signing in my opinion for Leicester. Fricke not having a place in GP does that benefit Leicester as he may decide to go for it in order to get his place back? Not sold on kemp. However what will happen is stability unlike last season.1 point

They've had years to attract Cradley and Coventry fans and haven't, they've signed the bottom of the Wolves team not the top so I wish them well with that I think you're right in that any concerted effort to attract other West Midlands fans would need to be something new that hadn't been tried before1 point
