  2. Taffy is indeed retiring and will close his doors around Easter. As for the speedway his voluntary contribution shouldn't be underestimated, especially in the early days after the sport returned to Shielfield and while under the Peter Waite promotion.

  3. Aye but Hans is past his best in the Championship too in all reality, Comets could definitely do better imo. I hope they sign Vissing or Rowe personally

  4. Until the Buster got involved with Panthers, I had a season ticket for 12 years. This was to help the club, as I always missed a couple of meetings, due to holidays. If we had a good team, it was a bonus.

  5. Really? With Worky being so entertaining now, two former GP heat-leaders and exciting new names coming in for the first CL season? Surely there aren't such obsessed folk who won't buy a season ticket until they knew the name of a middle-order rider?

  7. You would think that allt he clubs could "club together" and pay someone to answer all the clubs SS enquiries on one website/email address wouldn't you? There cannot be "that many" per week in the grand scheme of things, given so few clubs and the length of time the close season has, so maybe two people tops could be needed... Quick responses, which gets the money into the bank account quicker, gives good PR for the tracks, and keeps their "most loyal" punters happy... The BSPL could do so much more collectively, rather than each "doing their best" ... Marketing, club merchandise, publicity etc etc, would all be cheaper and better if all done under one umbrella as a collective, with quality control in the hands of selected promoters...

  9. Telling us who it is might get a few more season tickets sold and much-needed money in the coffers ahead of the season starting, I know people who are holding off until they know the final lineup.

  10. Just keeping folk interested by the looks of it. A bit pointless if you ask me

  11. Hi Hilly. Are you connected to the club? I sent an email of 4 January, to the "club" email and the "tickets" email, asking: "I was wondering about your 10 meeting pass that you mention on your website. Can this be shared between 2 people. Would I, for example, be able to use it for both my son and myself on the same night - making that two meetings out of the 10?" EDIT - seeing your response has in"spire"d me to re-send it so let's see if I get a reply this time.

  14. Regarding responses (or lack of) from promoters at clubs. I won 2 free tickets to a match via the Speedy scores game on twitter. Got a message from the official British speedway account informing me. On July 24th told them of the match I'd like, on August 6th reminded them I hadn't got an answer, on August 17th reminded them I still hadn't got an answer, on August 18th they replied saying they'd look into it. On August 21st queried again & got the information I was after on August 22nd. They may have been nudged into action by a friend who knew someone on the social media team speaking to them. Obviously I kept on at them as it was a free ticket I had won. But if this was an attempt by me to purchase a ticket etc, i would have long given up & they would have lost a sale. Speedway promotions can't afford to alinatate any fans, while it's struggling in this country, so clubs have got to gets their acts together sharpish, when dealing with emails from supporters etc.

  15. In Sussex the local press reported in early February 1960 that a new second division of the National League was being formed, comprising northern and southern sections. 10 teams were listed as possible starters in the southern section (Aldershot, Bristol, Eastbourne, Exeter, Ipswich, Plymouth, Rayleigh, Rye House, St Austell, Yarmouth). Doubts were expressed about Aldershot and Rye House because of low attendances in previous seasons. A comment was made that there were also doubts regarding the inclusion of Keighley in a northern section. When the league commenced with the Provincial title it did not include Aldershot, Eastbourne, Exeter, Ipswich, Plymouth, Rye House or St Austell. The local press in Liverpool had an article in mid-February commenting that the new Provincial League would be formed as a single competition, with the proposed northern and southern sections having agreed to combine. There were 13 teams listed (Aldershot, Bristol, Eastbourne, Exeter, Poole, Rayleigh and Yarmouth from the southern section, Bradford, Cradley Heath, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Sheffield and Stoke from the northern section). By 16th February there was no mention of a new track at Keighley being a possibility. The proposed opening date for Bradford was 4th June. This was because the Odsal stadium had a reserved date in May for a replay in the event of a draw in the Rugby League Cup Final at Wembley. Keighley and Bradford are only 10 miles apart and it was never likely that two tracks so close would enter the same new league in 1960. A possibility is that the Keighley rugby league ground at Lawkholme Lane was contemplated as an alternative to Bradford, or even as a temporary base until Odsal became available. Three years earlier the Keighley board had bought the site, covering 13 acres, which included the adjacent cricket ground, bowling green and cottages. Part of the site was subsequently sold when road improvements were carried out nearby. Edited to add: A Birmingham Mail newspaper article on 19th December 1959 indicated that the composition of the new Provincial League would include a northern section of 6 teams and a southern section of 8 teams. Bradford was included in the northern section and the article stated that Keighley was another possibility. It did not say if this was in addition to, or instead of, Bradford. Aldershot and Rye House were also mentioned as possibles for the southern section.

  16. Why make posts like that? “Ohhh I know more than you do…..” either name them or don’t say anything.

  17. Are Workington just riding with 6 riders in 2024?? We are the only club that hasn't declared their 1-7. Seems very strange not to announce.. Maybe they have been let down by riders and are still searching worrying if that is the case. We are already taking a big chance with a few names in the team already..
