There will never be another Pele but every half decent Brazilian since he retired gets labelled the next one. It's a lazy stereotype is essentially what I was getting at3 points

Eddie won't be no1 as he's had his average adjusted due to being out for so long with injury, but he's back to full fitness now and says he has unfinished business at Plymouth3 points

If I was being really pedantic, I'd reply with - why even have a league? Why does the top team win, why not give 3 points to all riders who complete a race? I'm sure everyone would say "that's insane" - so clearly the result does matter - after all when riders go to the tapes the aim is to win the heat - you don't see top riders miss the gate on purpose to practice their overtaking do you? Also if the strength of teams doesn't matter why even have a points limit? I would change a couple of things to make it more of a "development" league - like the Prem, weakest rider has to go at 7 (can't be replaced in heat 8) look at Mildenhall last year, William Richardson getting the harder rides, while his stronger reserve partner meets a reserve in every race. There's no way that was don't for his development - weakest riders at 7 meeting each other more & stronger riders at 6 racing opposition second strings must be better for everyone's development - so clearly Mildenhall did this to win. If the number 6 couldn't replace the number 7 baring injuries (call him a supplementary reserve) all riders would likely get 4 rides a match - it just goes a bit further than simply stopping tac subs, which they do to stop riders missing rides (unless you have a strong reserve).2 points

Remember reading somewhere that Connor lives in Glasgow and was serving an apprenticeship with Allied Vehicles which I believe is owned by the Facennas.2 points

I don't know. What comes next? Declare the winners of the Star Championsips of the early 30s as world champions as well? Don't mess with historic facts. Those meetings never were contested as world championships. I am against any retrospective change of historic facts.2 points

I'm surprised that there has been no comment regarding the article printed in the latest Speedway Star which reports that the FIM is to be petitioned to re-classify the 1946 1947 and 1948 British Riders' Championship Finals as World Championships. These three finals all featured the 16 best riders in the World, and the three winners, Tommy Price, Jack Parker and Vic Duggan should certainly be entitled to claim the status of "World Champion" which has been denied to them. These three events were conducted in exactly the same way as previous and later World Championships with Qualifying Rounds which featured every rider competing in the British Leagues. I'm not 100% certain about 1946, but the 1947 and 1948 Qualifying Rounds included a number of European riders who were not attached to British Clubs, and the fact than none of them were good enough to qualify for the Wembley Finals is immaterial - the best 16 riders of the day were all in the final! Every speedway rider of quality was competing in the British Leagues during those three seasons, so why these event were not described as "World Championships" in the first place is a nonsense - and this ought to be rectified. Tommy Price perhaps, had the advantage of riding in the final on his home track, but there can be no question at all that both Vic Duggan and Jack Parker were the outstanding riders of the time. Parker, who rode speedway from 1928 until 1954, and was one of the country's leading riders for all of that time, was a very worthy World Champion, as of course was Vic Duggan, and it is scandalous that they have been prevented from being accepted as such. I was pleased to read that the campaign is being supported by Tommy Price's wife and by the sons of both Jack Parker and Vic Duggan, and by a number of respected senior promoters such as Len Silver and Reg Fearman, and I believe speedway enthusiasts everywhere should also give it their backing.1 point

3 NDL meetings at Edinburgh at the end of the 2021 season, is 3 NDL meetings at Edinburgh at the end of a season. Not enough to gain an average. A full season at Belle Vue is a full season at Belle Vue. As I said, the only full season he's had. A season where he went from 3.00 to 5.29 which is pretty decent. He crashed out in his first meeting of 2023, and made 1 guest appearance in the last match of the year.... So still only completed 1 full NDL season. It's not difficult to understand. I didn't say he'd become heat leader standard. In his only full season he increased his average by 2.29 which is very decent.1 point

From my experience I can only say that Claus is a nice guy off the track. When he signed for Comets previously he actually came up in the stand and watched a race with us in one meeting, not many riders would do that. I have always believed after watching Claus at Ashfield a few times that Glasgow got good value out of him , he always seemed to try really hard to do himself justice riding for the Tigers. I believe he would be a solid signing especially at home, I think the Northside track would suit him.1 point

Kemp has a 4 point average - he's benefitted from the 25% discount for moving out of the RS pool. There's pressure on him, but he seems to like the Leicester track. PS: It's definitely worth using the correct word, rather than a number when you're talking about numbers :-)1 point

Not a big fan of (santa) claus but would take him on a relatively low average, and it would pi## off Glasgow fans who are expecting him to re- sign for them1 point

It's a development league strength of teams should not matter if riders gain experience and progress the result should not matter1 point

I'd be worried too if I was a Brummies fan. Reluctant to let the fans know the full 1-7 usually means that it's a poor side and the club are trying to shift as many season tickets as possible first before delivering the bad news. If you've got big name riders like a Lindgren for example then surely you'd want to announce them ASAP because it would help season ticket sales, No logic in holding big name signings back (If you've got one or two) Look at other clubs in the league who announced big names at a rapid pace to help with season ticket sales. PhilTheAce has been spot on this winter and if he say's Lampart is 100% in then that's another 5.00 pointer and everybody is certain on Z. Cook (Another 5.00 pointer) so Brum don't have a HL when it comes to the three announced and the two heavily rumoured riders. Brummies management really should've announced the full 1-7 on Friday, No excuse not to imo.1 point

I believe he's Glasgow bound,he's good value on his average decent little rider.1 point

Really like the look of the Leicester top 5 (obviously) just depends if the reserves can back then up. Big season for Kemp jumping out of the RS position, but he's had experience of racing at number 6 with Wolves, so really should add to his 3.03 average, so they've been clever there. Really just leaves Joe T as the weak link, good luck to him, but he looks to be one of the weakest two RS in the league.1 point

Don't worry I'm sure Plymouth team will be built to a 38pt average the same as everyone else.1 point

Not likely to be Danish then with obvious clashes. May be a Czech rider, although the better ones may have too much POlish experience to be classed as a 4 pointer??..or real left field like Celina Liebmann - just imagine the publicity. Even the woke BBC might wake up!1 point

I hate to say it, but I have to agree with you. Look at the problems we had with the World Pairs. Trying to change things 75 years down the road is never easy, and as you say, they never WERE "World Championships", despite being considered as unofficial ones.1 point

Decent enough side with the potential of 3 high scoring reserves. Mulford had a mare last season with injuries and off form, but he still had the potential to score big especially when he's flat out. Jorgensen can be the main factor to make this side really good. Redcar is an easier track to ride than say Brough, so he needs to show up with his form from other big tracks. Looking forward to be a regular attender this year after missing most of this year. 'mon the Bears.1 point

I do sincerely hope that something can be done about this. At the moment, those lads were deserving of being called 'World Champions' but, for whatever reason, were not recognised as such. I think it would be great if this could happen. Fingers crossed for their families sake.1 point

No money changed hands apparently, allegedly Butterfield (shrewdly knowing that retirement beckons for his PR man) promised Chapman a place if needed in the older person’s Care Village - within the 280-bed care home, to provide supported care, which will be built in The Care Village. If ever part of the project isn't going to see the light of day then that'll be it. Only an unsubstantiated rumour of course. We're still awaiting Chapman's version of events for his sterling efforts throughout the 2023 season regarding the future Peterborough Speedway. At the same time of course as keeping an eye out for Hell freezing over.1 point
