  1. Charge the oaps more,,, that's most of the crowd,, and its mostly them with all the spare cash. People like me that live alone that private rent have very little spare cash available once we have spent our money on essentials like booze, drugs and hookers

  2. Peterborough's and Wolverhampton's demises were not down to team affordability and budgets. They were down to stadium ownership.

  3. You can keep Craig Cook, I’d sooner have Jason King, never mind Danny, than Cook.

  4. They’re more than just “marginal” changes and Ipswich finishing fourth is a bit deceiving. The issues with Erik Riss are well documented, Ellis is a huge upgrade. Jenkins isn’t as big an upgrade on Hume but still an upgrade all the same. And there’s a third factor here and that’s the Rising Star. Over 10 meetings last season Joe Thompson had a GSA of 1.18. His string of zeros were a big factor in Ipswich’ poor form early on along with Riss’ struggles. When Ipswich finally got a rising star in that made a contribution in Dan Thompson, the narrow defeats turned in to victories and they were probably THE form team by the end of the season which coincided with them winning the cup and narrowly missing out on the title. It would be interesting to see a league table from the moment Dan Thompson joined. Starting next year with Ellis Jenkins and Dan Thompson instead of a struggling Riss, Hume and Joe Thompson isn’t marginal improvement, it’s huge. Belle Vue for example look to be weaker than last year whilst Ipswich have strengthened. Ipswich will rightly start as one of the favourites IMO.

  5. We go through this pantomime every winter even though the septet seems to be the worst kept secret on the forum . It is what it is , clubs seem to love the drip feed nonsense

  7. So sad to hear that Gote Nordin is no longer with us. His name always seems to come up when we talk about the best riders never to win a World Final.

  9. For what it's worth, IMO, I don't mind the 'drip feeding' of our signings for next year. For me, I like the fact that maybe the Club's focus will be on the charities associated with each rider, that way they will get some attention for a period of time. Slightly different approach to other teams, but hey - we don't all want/need to be the same....

  14. Drip feeding news over the off season keeps people interested and engaged. Slowly releasing the news isn’t going to turn anyone off of the product.

  15. I think the danger of dragging it out too long is that you risk annoying your loyal, hardcore fan base. If the idea is to keep the club in the media spotlight over several weeks then this can be done in various ways once you've named your team IMO. In mitigation Glasgow have got the wonderful idea of the charities as part of theirs which is fair enough.

  16. If Joe gets a team spot but Max doesn't I'd be disappointed with Leicester (although they are just trying to win) but also with the BSPL, should be a rule that you can't ride in all 3 leagues. After all of you're good enough for the Prem, must be too good for the NL right?

  17. Unless you are truly local there is not a lot of incentive for buying a season ticket these days with travelling and fuel ,unpredictable weather and riders attitudes to a less that perfect conditions you can have a wasted journey.Whereas with a lot of Clubs streaming now (including Bandits) it costs less too watch the meeting online if any doubts on the night The away fans and neutrals will compensate for this drop in revenues by purchasing the stream though.

  18. I have been told our 1-7 & have never let the "cat out of the bag" in the past & post comments only after the official line from our club.

  19. Under 10’s free, up to 16 £5, 16-18 £10 would be what I would be looking at. No point having free until 16, as the 17 year olds just stop going when being charged adult prices.

  23. It looks a possible side? I hope the new Manager thinks different! Worrall/Schlein/Zagar .... wouldnt be my preferred choices...but hey, we are obliged to feel grateful for at least continuing!? I'm surprised Kings Lynn didnt opt for Z.Cook over MPT!? P.s I have a sneaky feeling that Ben Barker could return to B'ham!?

  24. He isn't the only one but it feels a lot more noticeable with Dan. Him and Lambert were bullied out of semi & final spots too many times this campaign.

  25. Bewley for me is the only challenger to Zmarzlik based on his pure speed, as other have said, he needs to put himself in difficult positions to progress as speed alone won't get you there.

  26. Think I'm with you on this. Watching him over the years It's a personal perception that he has ability but is somewhat let down by his equipment, possibly his fitness and always seems to miss many meetings with injury.

  27. Needs to become a lot tougher on track if he is to get anywhere near world champion. Hell of a talent but is way too soft presently

  29. Poor form that Joe gets a team place but Perry misses out, one rider who has outgrown the league vs one who could use a few confidence boosting meetings. Of the 2023 Cubs side the easiest to argue returns for are the two Max's (with Boughen already ruling himself out)

  37. I think BSN is the best thing to happen to British Speedway in recent seasons - in fact, as I have also said about 'Speedway Star' in the past, it is probably better than British Speedway deserves - especially the way the sport is now!! And, of course, as Ben alluded to earlier, they have invested heavily in equipment over the past two years - and we can see the benefits clearly as the quality of the whole BSN show is much improved from their first few meetings when they first started out. It is now better than Eurosport in my opinion - I know that is probably not a high bar to set, but when you think about the number of people behind the scenes at BSN compared to Eurosport they trump Eurosport comfortably. As someone else pointed out, at around £4 per meeting it sure beats spending hours and hours on the road travelling to meetings. I know some people have commented on the price rises but that is a fair point that Ben has made about VAT now coming into play. I guess if anything the first season BSN was probably too cheap, which maybe gave people a false perspective, but I can understand why they made it quite cheap; as obviously as 'a new venture' they needed to attract customers and so build up a fan base as it were. If everything in life was as good a value as BSN the world would be a far better place! I will definitely be buying a BSN season pass again - happy days!

  38. I couldn't disagree more with your perspective on Speedway entry charges for kids. While it might seem unusual compared to other events, the focus shouldn't solely be on immediate revenue. Speedway needs to prioritize building a sustainable fan base for the future. Charging kids for entry can deter families from attending, as the financial burden may discourage parents from bringing their children to Speedway events. The average age of current Speedway supporters is relatively high, and it's crucial to attract younger audiences to ensure the sport's longevity. By offering free entry for kids accompanying paying adults, Speedway is making a strategic investment in its future. The goal is to cultivate a love for the sport in the younger generation. As these kids grow into adults, they are more likely to become loyal fans who willingly pay for tickets. This long-term approach is essential for the survival and growth of Speedway. Comparing Speedway entry charges to other sports may not be the most relevant metric. Instead, the focus should be on creating incentives for families and young individuals to choose Speedway as their entertainment of choice. It's about fostering a sense of community and passion for the sport, not just about the immediate revenue generated from kids' ticket sales. In the grand scheme of things, whether it's 50p or £1 for a child's entry is a minor detail. The primary objective should be to secure the future of Speedway by building a diverse and enthusiastic fan base that will sustain the sport for years to come.

  42. That’s the point I was making. The rider has no sanction he can take if he’s not being paid. But if he does withhold his services he faces sanctions.

  43. The new social media team at Leicester are very much on trend with lots of experience of creating content for the younger market as they themselves are in the 14-23 group with TikTok,Insta Reels and You Tube shorts being their forte. They have some great ideas and are fortunate at Leicester to have some other people involved with the club whom have lots of experience of Media and Marketing There will also be the more traditional social media like X (Twitter) Facebook along with of course the usual press releases too so hopefully should be something for everyone

  44. My cousin's grandson, Josh Abbott, is top marksman for Oxford City Stars and ex-GB player.,he knows Petgrave. Was chatting to him last week and Josh said doubt it was a deliberate kick to the neck but definitely meant to injure him, knowing Petgrave, no accident. Oxford first team to wear neckguards, its not compulsory. Petr Cech is their goalminder, but Oxford second bottom. Josh had pretty bad facial injuries a few month ago was targeted by a known enforcer, then his Oxford teammates sought retribution on the ice.

  45. I don't think Pedersen's reputation is totally justified, others have pulled many similar moves it's just he was so high profile and Nicki bashing 'caught on'. Hans A was very hard with riding others to the fence or dive bombing (one time at Reading I recall he did it about three times, causing another to fall or seriously get in trouble), as was Gollob - remember Boycie's golden moment? The fact we're still talking about them shows how they're missed in my view. Oh and yes, Nicki's a lovely fella to talk to.

  46. Pedersen was brilliant , gave it his all on track and was a huge hit with the fans. Yes, he was ruthless and dirty but he himself was a victim of many bad moves even early on in his career. Everyone wanted to watch him, whether it was to watch him win or watch him get beaten. He was box office. the series could do with a prime Nicki P in it now , thats for sure.

  47. I think he plans what he needs to do to get to the semi finals and then it steps it up a gear. He's the complete package. He'll go on, I hope, to break all the records.
