From Cllr Julie Stevenson of Orton Waterville (27/11/23) - on Facebook: IMPORTANT NEWS: SAVE PETERBOROUGH SPEEDWAY As part of the ongoing effort to protect Peterborough’s speedway track and team (Peterborough Panthers), Orton Waterville Parish Council is to debate whether it is in the public interest to register the track as an Asset of Community Value (ACV). If the parish council votes in favour of initiating the ACV registration process, it may put a halt to any intentions to destroy the speedway track. What is an ACV? The Localism Act of 2011 created a provision that allows ‘defined community groups’, such as parish councils, to ask their local authority to list assets that meet the relevant criteria as being of ‘community value’. The Localism Act defines an asset of community value if: Its actual or current use (or there is a time in the recent past when its use) furthers the social wellbeing or social interests of the local community, and It is realistic to think that there can continue to be (or it is realistic to think that there is a time in the next five years) non-ancillary use of the asset that would further the social wellbeing or social interests of the local community. The debate will take place between members of the parish council during a meeting of Orton Waterville parish council on Wednesday 29th November 2023. If the decision is taken to register the track as an ACV, the next step will be for the parish council to ask Peterborough City Council to initiate the registration process.8 points

As with the Tarasenko situation, it's absolutely hilarious to see Poole fans getting their knickers in a twist with this type of thing. The exact type of stuff Poole happily did for years and years.3 points

Funny that our current Idiot owner is splashing the cash at King's Lynn like he has his love back for them...I wonder where he got that from...2 points

The track and fence isn’t really a great problem, the grandstand and lights are the most important and with the recent council planning noting that LP 30 applies to speedway , the removal of the fence and track on AEPG orders hasn’t gone down to well with anyone least of all the council planners or Sports England.2 points

Yes mate, I do agree he should increase his average. He’s had some horrendous luck and I was probably harsh on him earlier. I trust Rob’s judgement so if that’s what he thinks is the best option, it’s good enough for me.2 points

Feel better now! It was a case of nearly but not quite! Could be worse tho could be a Kings Lynn fan!2 points

I think a 100% fit MPT should put something on his 5.13(if he is fit). Having said that we have over a point to play with. Agree with Thomson, but considering the trouble we was in at the back end of last season, i'll take that team, with room for a change maybe, at some time.2 points

Brilliant side and the balance looks right already. The weak links of Riss and Hume replaced by a Heat Leader / Team GB member on a false average as well as a better reserve whether it's Flint, Jenkins or Barker.2 points

Tom Johnson, who wrote a column in the meeting programmes. He was a journalist with the Express & Star newspaper, based in Wolverhampton. He acted as an umpire in the Provincial League in 1964 when ACU referees were not available due to the league being outlawed. In 1989 I sat next to Tom at the end of season Cradley Heath dinner, when we were both guests. Free meals are the best.2 points

Think all the meetings Tom was doing caught up with him towards the end of last season The amount of travelling on himself and wear and tear on his equipment. Next season he's added another League I wouldn't be surprised if his average drops. Dont know the reason he was released couldn't have just been his average otherwise we could have kept James Maybe Mark thought he was taking to much on1 point

I wonder who the one with the problem is , as most people in speedway think Steve Lawson is one of the nicest people you could wish to meet.1 point

Tobi is bound to put a few on the gate maybe even a few Panthers fans despite their misgivings.1 point

Just throwing some names out there who haven’t really been mentioned to other clubs to be honest, I quite like Wright he was decent for Newcastle when we signed him and unlike paco doesn’t take 2 rides before he starts scoring.1 point

Expecting announcement of first signing on Friday. According to Alex Harkess at video night.1 point

It took them until late February to pin last year's Championship thread so you'll be lucky!1 point

Absolutely, in the last half a dozen seasons Swindon, Lynn and Dad's Army P'boro have all finished top of the pile having been predicted to finish bottom. In such a small league if things go your way you can have a very good season.1 point

I'm just going on Phil's posts mostly. He's said Stevie is Midlands bound for some time now, Also said Zagar signed and Lampart nailed on, Every team has to have a RS and Brennan has already signed which gives them 5 riders. If Zach Cook is in then they'll be way under the limit, I haven't seen Zach being linked with anyone else.1 point

Either that or the reverse for others. Injuries to crucial riders for the more fancied teams or team’s season goes down the pan due to failed blood tests! All sorts of things can happen in this sport, nothing is certain.1 point

Would any Edinburgh fans take this team? 1) Josh Pickering 8.63 2) Bastian Borke 4.00 3) Kye Thomson 6.48 4) James Wright 5.10 5) Erik Riss 7.35 6) Stefan Nielsen 3.75 7) Connor Coles 2.68 Comes in just under limit.1 point

1. Fricke 8.98 2. Brennan 6.02 3. Harris 6.53 4. Worrall 6.60 5. Lawson 6.57 6. Schlein 5.89 7. Flint I don't know how the averages would fit with the British reduction, for sure it's a workmanlike team but good enough for play off's ?, and the whispers are Bomber is Oxford bound.1 point

Go to stick with Rew considering Ipswich introduced him to British Speedway in the first place. No point chucking the towel in on your investment after one season after sticking by him last season during his early season struggles, He'll get better next season, Got a year of Foxhall knowledge under his belt now and he's visited most Prem tracks 2/3 times now.1 point

When they signed Barker last year based on his 2022 I'd been fairly happy but I think he disappointed in 2023 - he was in the team when they lost the home meetings so I'd prefer to look elsewhere. Ellis means no Riss I suspect, Emil possibly will be confirmed last for a big fanfare so the next two will be the RS and one other. I d be happy to see Dan Thompson back he did enough to deserve a recall for me - his injury was bad timing as he had been doing really well.1 point
-
Assuming the last two are also correct, It's got 6th place written all over this side. Solid but nothing to shout about when you look at the other rumoured sides in the league.1 point
-
Danny is a good retention. I think our weak links were Hume and Riss last year and if we can keep Emil and get another new rider plus Dan Thompson we could be in for a great season!1 point

Think I'd rather see Worrall in the team than that whinge bag Wright think the only dingle I would have now would be Flint as Becker Masters and Douglas seem to be heading to Leicester1 point

Very often, when a speedway promotion say 'we are taking a year out', it's the end. I can't see how speedway in the next 12 months, as a whole, is going to turn things around, for a promoter to say 'now is the time to run a team'. All very sad. Unfortunately, I said many years ago that speedway had to change and the costs were too high for those involved, but time after time (on here), I was told I was being negative. No, I was being realistic. The riders and the tuners have killed a sport, which at best, should have been, for many years, a semi-professional sport or even better, an amateur sport. Speedway will survive, but team/league racing will disappear in Britain, in my opinion.1 point

The way the format works, it should be best to have 2 strong heat leaders (as Berwick do) as they get an extra ride in heat 15, then 4 second strings on similar averages (meaning one will be at reserve) then having a 2.00 number 7 who only needs 3 rides. Using a second 2.00 rider (meaning 8 rides for 2.00 men not 3) to allow a stronger 3rd heat leader doesn't make sense to me - unless you have very promising 2.00 reserves (like Oxford do). So for me Etheridge is a fair 3rd heat leader in a weaker league.1 point

He’s a better rider than Brennan imo, he will go very well round the NSS. One of very few bright sparks for Peterborough this season.1 point

If we start the season with Zagar as number 1 we are finished before we even start . This has the LR stamp all over it . Stefan Neilson will no doubt be our number 6 . I have no problem with Zagar been in the team . What average would he come in on ? surely he is no where near his last average ability ? Which means we would be chucking a couple of points away straight off .1 point
-
If Zagar is signed, he’ll be eagerly awaiting for the away fixture/s at Leicester to be announced…..so that he has time for excuses for being unavailable. Unless you follow Belle Vue, I don’t see why anyone else would want this guy as your No.1. That said, if he sees the season out and averages over 8.5 I’ll take my hat off to him.1 point
