For those that can't open link. 25 th July, 2023 OXFORD STADIUM STATEMENT To whom it may concern, The support we have received for speedway since reopening Oxford Stadium has been truly overwhelming. Promotional work within our local community coupled with persistent media relations and heavy fan engagement has successfully connected the ‘lost generation’ and former supporters with the sport. In our regeneration season (2022), crowds were well above the levels we budgeted for and demonstrated to us a clear demand for speedway locally. It prompted our team to expand our initial audience capacity from 2,000 to 3,500 following the completion of works to restore Oxford Stadium to its previous glory following almost a decade of neglect under lock and key. Remarkably, Oxford Speedway attendances this season have been even stronger. We are consistently attracting over two-and-a-half times the number of people through our doors compared to when the club initially closed in 2007 with many supporters taking advantage of our U16s go free offer which has inspired a new generation of speedway fans locally. It is bewildering to us that this space of extraordinary potential was earmarked for housing when its existing provisions served a key purpose to the local community. Not only that, the return of greyhound racing and speedway plus the installation of a new mental health and wellbeing centre managed by the Frank Bruno Foundation has been a much-needed source of employment locally. The reopening of Oxford Stadium is a living example of what’s possible when key decision makers see sense in the potential of reinstalling much-needed community assets to existing derelict sites. I would urge Rugby Borough Council to follow in the footsteps of colleagues at Oxford City Council - whose actions were critical in the reopening of Oxford Stadium – by exploring every avenue possible to return Coventry Stadium into the hands of its local and wider communities. Many thanks, Kevin Boothby, Oxford Stadium Managing Director7 points

I don't think PL would of ever been in consideration surely. It came from 1 person who put a random comment on here 4 pages back. We all know what league will have the best close racing next year with tracks like Scunny, Glasgow, Redcar and Workington4 points

The rising star initiative in its current guise should be nowhere near the Premiership The Championship should hang its head in shame that they dropped it3 points

It's being extended over the weekend. Still discussing how to conclude the Jubilee Cup, which was first agenda item.2 points

If you want competition Leicester has it hard, Championship football 30k, most successful English Rugby Union club 24k, most successful basketball club 2k, Netball 1.5k county cricket (one man and their dog, but does well for sponsorship). Its bloody competitive in erms of choice for both spectator and advertising monies. They only need an Ice hockey club for a full house.2 points

These promoters also have other businesses, meaning they're working all year round...who's to deny them a 'long weekend break ' (while also technically working too ) ??? don't we all have /need a break somewhere along the line ??2 points

Thanks Mike for your reply, if he lost that amount of money that's massive and you need to be rich to continue will he won't he well we'll soon find out. As for Poole getting it right I wish all clubs would maybe it's money or the pull of riding for Poole, always had good support because it's a speedway town always has been.2 points

And the club said " Over the winter there was an on/off scenario whereby the club may have changed hands. However, given the uncertainty over the longevity of Peterborough Speedway, it was understandable that a sale did not take place" (what bit's to get? That's quite clear) and CJ said: " If I could afford it I would buy the speedway tomorrow, not at the price that he might be asking for, " so what value did he put on something which new owners would have to fight for extra time from the off and he himself claimed was only a one year situation? For a allegedly smart businessman he now owns something worth bugger all: a club without a home at the moment needing genuine people to fight for its future existence because the owner seemingly did bugger all in that direction in 2023. He was well aware of the situation and he could have at least have put up some resistance or sensibly stepped aside made it easier for someone else to have a go. Hanging it out until the end when you claim to have no interest and want out anyway makes no sense whatsoever, or perhaps it does because he's successfully taken down a more successful local rival and plundered their assets for his truelove. Perhaps that was the calculation? Whatever though, it's not too difficult for people, rightly or wrongly, to feel uneasy about the situation and question it. I doubt that we'll ever find out anything, if there is anything to find out of course, so I will not be holding my breath on that one.2 points

Ellis on his current average should be a highly sought after commodity next season. To write him off at 27 is frankly ridiculous.2 points

It is irrelevant where the AGM is held. some folk seem to be of the opinion that the money they pay to attend meetings is somehow being wasted on an AGM instead of investing it on tracks/riders or any other similar direct aspect of a meeting. In reality, the promoters are investing their time and money in attending the AGM to discuss their business interests - if, in future years anybody on this forum wishes to influence where the AGM is held - they should buy a speedway team/promoters license and after running their chosen venue for a season or two they might welcome spending a little more of their cash to spend three days enjoying a bit of winter sun with fellow promoters finalising plans for the following season. Meanwhile, lets hope the outcome of this AGM provides 2024 with some entertaining/exciting meetings beneficial to both spectator and promoter alike.2 points

Tbf with the supporter base of a league 1 club. Compare it to clubs size of Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow the can see a fair difference in what the competition is in these places1 point

Poole have three advantages over other clubs IMHO. They are very well run, as the only professional sports team in the town they get very good sponsorship (which they work very hard to generate and then maintain) and then the demographics of the local population, both in terms of age and income is helpful.1 point

Agree, also riders with anything about them (which Flint clearly has) will generally learn a track they aren't keen on if they are racing on it every week.1 point
-
Any ambitious rider will look to conquer tracks they have previously struggled on. For me, on similar averages I’d take Flint over Vissing any day. There’s a lot more potential upside to Flint if it goes well.1 point

The term ‘Rising Star’ should imply youngster on the way up. Riders in their mid twenties should not be put in this category for team structures. The RS position is currently protected in heat formats and in my opinion, riders of that age should be able or prepared to mix it with all riders in the league.1 point

Who indeed cares where they hold their corporate jolly at their own expense? The formal business side of things probably more efficiently be held in a conference room somewhere in the Midlands, but a lot of the actual dealings get done in the bar at these sorts of things.1 point

You'd be crazy to get rid of Gilkes, theres a lot more to come from him given an injury free season1 point

If I’m totally honest with you I’m not sure, I no a local school used to own the land but never used it ,the biggest problem was mark said he lost £40,000 last year no one can keep sustaining that unless you have very deep pockets. If they run on Saturdays hopefully the crowds will be bigger but the thing to bear in mind is it’s a well known fact Plymouth people will not back a team who lose week in week out it’s been proven in football when argyle were rubbish crowds of circa 6-7000, now you can’t get a ticket , rugby the same when Albion were in the championship great team to watch now not so much ,so my point is get your team building right and people will come to see a successful team ,in the financial climate we are in people can’t justify spending on seeing someone lose every week unless your a diehard like me and a few others .As much as it pains me (I’m joking)when I say that Poole get there team planning right every year that’s why they get the crowds and that’s why there successful.1 point

Vissing seems to mess his teams about at the end of most seasons if you look back his history.1 point

Think Glasgow have had enough of trying to arrange fixtures around rider's overseas commitments . Too many times it's Danish League , or Danish championship or various under 21 fixtures meaning we've had missing riders for our important fixtures1 point

It was for sale before the season started.. You can't just give it away. It has a value.. If MT had bought it like he said he was going to do 10/11 moths ago, and make it the "Man City of speedway", you might of had half a chance, and work on the new site underway that he was going to buy.... People seem to forget that bit. As i said in a previous post, I hope MT steps up this time round ! , and a price that both parties are happy with can be agreed. If as some think, brown envelopes might be involved, we will find out soon enough. But as far as i know the club is still for sale, and negotiations are ongoing.0 points
