If things are that dire that Scunthorpe have to move up to the top league then it’s time to admit a single “professional” division is the way to go. Forcing clubs to operate beyond their means just to keep a TV deal and a few world class riders here really isn’t worth it.10 points

Well I'm sure getting a ban for cocaine use will be a big boost to his case for access.7 points

The whole “top league” is joke anyway..how can you have the so called with a hand full of the worlds best then make it up with riders from the middle and bottom (development)leagues and call it the premiership..The powers that be are going to be the death of uk speedway end of..a great shame5 points

When in a hole - he keeps digging. No accounting for stupid - he should have taken his punishment and moved on.5 points

Assuming Richie is factually correct. Bottom line is if he never had cocaine in his system he wouldn’t have got a £1,500 fine if he took his punishment instead spouting off all over social media he wouldn’t have got the £3000 fine. No point in blaming everyone else.5 points

I would agree with that, he comes across as a guy with very limited capabilities & he should be nowhere near the job he has. The stuff he puts out for for public consumption makes the SCB appear very amateurish .4 points

Now we are reduced to abusing mechanics! We weren’t all made to be super models! No need for it in my humble opinion! Steve’s mechanic Neil is vastly experienced and does a good job! I know that for the Glasgow v Poole final he left home in Swindon at circa 8 in the morning drove to Glasgow via Cleethorpes, spannered at meeting then done the reverse trip getting home circa 8-30 Saturday morning! Then had bikes to clean and prep for the 2nd leg. He gets paid that is true and no disrespect to Steve it wasn’t for 24 hours with 16 of those at time and a half!! How many of us would be able or willing to do that? This topic is supposed to be about Ritchie Worrall, so please keep it on track!3 points

Just come across a piece on the PT at https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/people/search-for-for-jobs-saving-solution-goes-on-after-east-of-england-showground-car-depot-plans-were-rejected-4400651 that shows that the objections to the EoS closure have put an effective and very painful boot on Butterfield's throat. He has gone bleating to the council about the loss of 160 jobs if the DHL parking has to close down. The article also comes clean and exposes what we already know that the DHL contract is his way of paying his loan on the site for the next FIVE years and that all of the closures of events were so that he could get somebody to pay him more than the events would pay while he got his development sorted out without having to do any work himself. Clearly, all those showground events need not have been evicted/rejected, never mind the close-down of the speedway for quite a while and the plans might well have slipped through without all this hoo-har if Butterfield had been less greedy. It just shows how little research was done to study the local area and people rather that just opening a little office in the town and pretending to be a local. At least now we know just how little this gang considered the people of Peterborough and surroundings. The 160 jobs being claimed are just there to keep this awful lot in business to pedal their retirement fund plan along. I hardly think the prospect of the transporters and pollution from that depot for the next five years is quite in line with the aims of the farmers who created the showground before the magic money tree growers came along and not quite what all of the neighbouring residents had in mind until they heard this real truth forced out. Keep the boot on their throats and watch out for the next panic money-making plan to surface.2 points

It's one thing posting something dodgy on social media, it's another when you are under suspension for a drugs offence. I've urged a bit of compassion in this issue as young men frequently do silly things and shouldn't be burned at the stake for a first time offence. But posting about it and undermining the whole process afterwards is, frankly, stupid. I won't go into the details, but a long time ago, I had a quite traumatic experience of someone close being spiked. It does happen. However, if you are a professional sportsperson, then part of that professionalism is being extra vigilant on what enters your body. I have been on senior management teams alongside elite athletes and its is absolutely drummed into them again and again to be vigilant and examine every little ingredient of every medication. Athletes don't consume anything unless they are sure of its safety to the point of paranoia, eg. only drinking sealed bottled water when they are personally breaking the seal. Speedway being speedway, its unlikely such professionalism occurs. The problem for the authorities is that they cannot go on the "how" of drugs cases, they can only go on the "what". That means sportspeople have to be held accountable for what is in their bodies, end of. If they are let off for being "spiked" or "never knowingly ingesting", then that sets a precedent for all future drugs cases. He may have taken drugs, he may have been clumsy. Either way he needs to own it and learn a harsh lesson.2 points

All these shenanigans reminds me of when the authorities had to try and deal with Michael Lee, he was a bit of a loose cannon to say the least and if social media had been a thing in his day he would probably have had a field day... not to mention it being across all of the papers! The difference of course is that Michael Lee was a World Champion and Richie Worrall is nothing more than a tin pot 2nd division rider with quite a high opinion of himself it seems. Good riddance to bad rubbish, the sport is not going to lose a single fan due to him not being involved in it.2 points

100% agree,1 league for sure, however if the rumours are correct and they want to scrap the ndl surely that’s only going to cause more damage to the sport long term,IOW,Mildenhall Kent what will happen to those clubs who definitely don’t have the infrastructure to do any other than low level racing?not to mention there are fans out there that prefer ndl racing.1 point

The announcement states 10 rounds, probably tells you all you need to know about improvements if they can't even count what has previously been written! Probably given the Poles an extra round to appease them after the toys out of the pram when Zmarzlik was banned from Vojens. Zmarzlik 4/6 on Skybet for WC should be 1/101 point

But didn’t Richie have his own test done in far more detail the following day at his own expense which showed him to be completely clean over 16 catergories?1 point
-
I seriously hope not... Track is good aye. But the stadium size, facilities and surrounding area would be a disaster. Only one hotel within walking distance, the nightmare of Manchester's public transport... Honestly wouldn't want it held here... Would rather it was in Poland again in an actual nice city with a stadium which is capable of holding such an event1 point

Very much part of the Belle Vue heat leader trio in the early 60's. He was also one of their three New Zealanders along with Ron Johnston and Bryce Subritsky.1 point

I am glad somebody has said this. People give him stick for not spending money but in the same breath slag other promotions off for spending above their means. I understand there’s a lot of disapproval towards Rob Godfrey (some of which is justified) but he has the interests of Scunthorpe Speedway at heart. Scunthorpe is not a club that can compete financially with the likes of Belle Vue or Sheffield for example, that’s quite apparent. So would be foolish to try. Whether the club decide to make the move up or not, I can’t imagine Rob would do it and risk losing out financially. It’s a business decision and has to be treated that way to ensure the sustainability of the club. Why then people criticise this is beyond me. I am still personally undecided what is for the best but I’m sure the clubs interests are the priority and if that involves saving a few quid then what’s the problem?1 point

I would go for Tobi over Woffinden. Tai is looking to top-up his pension fund and his focus will be on the GPs. Tobi will give it 110% and will put his body on the line.1 point
