  1. One of the best riders at Armadale this season. Great team man loses his team position because of a stupid points limit that no fan is in favour of.

  2. I can only echo the above and hope that Max makes a full recovery from his injuries. I have followed speedway for over fifty years ap and down the country and across Europe; but I don't think I have ever felt as incensed and disillusioned with sport in this country as I do right now. There are so many things wrong with how it is run that you could fill a book if you listed them all. And, the events leading up to the conclusion of the NDL season, the decisions made and the way that events ultimately played out just summed it all up perfectly. I am not a fan of any particular club, just a speedway fan, but I think if I was a fan of Mildenhall or Oxford right now I would not be "celebrating" my victory as it would feel very hollow having been achieved the way it has been. To be fair, it is not their fault, that is the hand they have been dealt - but I am pretty sure if it was my club I would feel very flat despite picking up the trophy. Maybe they should both refuse to accept the trophy under the circumstances and see where the BSPL Management Committee go from there! In all liklihood they would impose a fine on both clubs for refusing to accept their respective trophies. That would just about sum up the state of the sport at present in this country. I can only agree with previous posts that a change is needed at the top because things can't continue as they are - the sport and its supporters deserve so much better than this! Right now I am seriously considering whether I even bother with the sport anymore, I am that disillusioned. And, sadly, I fear I am not alone!

  3. I was there. The track was tricky, from the off. But not dangerous. Indeed, conditions improved after a couple of races and without the long delay I'm certain we'd have seen the full 15 heats completed. Max Perry's accident looked like one of those starting incidents. I believe there was bunching before the riders got to the first bend and Max straightened up, going straight on into the first bend air fence, at high speed. Unfortunately he had no chance to bale out. Was the track a contributory factor? That's hard to say with 100% certainty, but in my view, it certainly wasn't the primary cause. I don't think the referee, the team managers or any of the riders are responsible for what happened. It was very sad that the meeting ended and the season for that matter, with serious injuries to a quickly improving rider. Our very best wishes to Max and here's hoping for a full recovery as soon as possible.

  4. You could say Glasgow should be awarded the trophy as both Leicester and Poole failed to complete their meetings

  5. As an Oxford fan to be quite honest I didn’t give a monkeys about the league title after Max’s crash. It almost looked like the throttle stuck open and was horrifying, the bike hitting him the way it did probably made things worse. But it was obvious it was serious. Dan Thompson stayed with Max the whole time he was on track and helped carry the stretcher to the ambulance, considering his age that was an incredible thing to do especially with Max suffering from the injuries he has.

  6. I think all right minded speedway supporters would agree with you! What a way for a young lad to finish a season full of promise, including beating Josh Pickering! I wish him well and hope that he comes back stronger than ever!

  7. Thoughts with the lad and his family. Really hope there aren't any internal complications as if that list isn't horrifying enough. On the cold light of day some very searching questions have to be asked about this and other fiascos May be time for a complete clear out of the management committee and some form of independent govermence

  9. It would require I believe a majority of the other clubs to refuse to re-elect the current committee and refuse to offer new nominations and to call an EGM. To then seek to move a vote of no confidence and to propose a change of articles of association. Then agree a new Board. As an example a proven part time CEO. Then a Board ofAn ACU or RAC accredited person from another form of motor sport with administrative experience, an ex Promoter, an ex Rider, an ex Referee. So purely hyperthetically Keith Heuwen Adrian Smith Chris Morton Tony Steele

  10. Allied Mobility sponsored Team GB last year as they've done this year as well, with Allied's Cab's Direct sponsoring the Championship this season. Maybe Poole should have invested some of that "first prize cash" from previous seasons into purchasing some material for their track, but then again what would have been the point when every track grade consists of grading away any material produced from racing

  11. Hate the musical chairs this time of year. Fans favourites moved on, simply because of a points limit which next season is overly harsh. Good luck to Kyle and hopefully he will be back in Pirates colours in the future.

  12. The meeting was only called off because of rain that fell AFTER Max Perry's crash.

  13. You might think that, I wouldn't possibly like to comment. And add on two home finals staged at King's Lynn last year.

  14. Interesting that all of the meetings that weren't completed all involved Leicester but the opponent's were all different teams, including one From 2022! Think that might tell a story over Leicester's overall Management especially after Sunday's farce … Best wishes to Max Perry

  15. The track wasn't too bad. Perry crashed in heat 12 (I'm not sure the track was to blame) and then there was a 45-min (ish) wait for him to get treatment. It was during this time that the heavens opened and the conditions became pretty bad. In other words, the track was okay for the first 11 heats, but wouldn't have been by the time they were able to continue, so can't see why they would have called it off after heat 10. Hope Perry makes a swift recovery.

  16. Irrespective of blame for the delays to fixtures ( the Leicester boggy track being key to this ) thoughts are with Max Perry and I sincerely hope for a full recovery from his injuries sustained IMO by the failure of the ref to call off and declare the meeting last night at the earliest opportunity (heat 10) given the poor conditions . The ref should be questioned at a senior level and asked his reasons for continuing the meeting . Further training should be offered to assist. Sadly nothing changes in speedway and I see the same old same old drivel and excuses trotted out year after year by the same old “promoters” of the sport. NDL clubs run but a couple of handful of meetings a season and yet cannot complete their fixtures. Strict time limits to run fixtures MUST be imposed and rigidly adhered to by ALL clubs. Failure to run a fixture in a timely manner should result in the match being forfeited 75 -0 Maybe just maybe this would instil a sense of urgency in running fixtures earlier in the season?

  17. To my knowledge, the BSPA can't touch Isle of Wight other than making it difficult for them to recruit riders for their meetings (which I believe they have done, despite protestations to the contrary). The BSPA's selfishness and incompetence certainly led to Isle of Wight withdrawing from the NDL and by all accounts they have done pretty well outside of it. Running meetings over a much shorter season and being able to make their own decisions - rather than petty, vindictive and stupid rulings from the BSPA - will certainly have helped. My suspicion is that Kent would have withdrawn from the NDL anyway due to Si Kellow's apparent personal difficulties but the BSPA's savage decision to suspend their licence and fine them last season might well have prompted that decision anyway. Its not totally unreasonable to suggest that BSPA actions have cost the NDL two teams, and that could easily be the difference between the league continuing and folding.

  18. As Poole have been unable to hold the home leg of this playoff surely the trophy should be awarded to Leicester in accordance withe the same principles used by the BSPA to decided the NDL Championship and the Knock Out Cup winner.

  19. My guess is he will be back at Glasgow as they own his contract and he works for allied vehicles, plus will do a good job on a 5 ish average, this year at Redcar and belle Vue he always had a heat win in him, and solid scores, also see him as a rising star at belle Vue

  24. Agreed I think we all thought 12 months. It's also easy to overlook how little they have to do. Everything is there other than track and fence. They literally just have to plug in from extensive electrics and realign the brilliant existing lights slightly. Kennels would be easily installed too. They could feasibly be running early 2024.

  25. Good summary, the speed of the planning for Dunstall is remarkable They could conceivably start building today provided there are no relevant reserved matters

  26. Fair point and thanks .. I just couldn’t understand the post I quoted saying the ref should of been accountable because he let the meeting continue after heat 10

  28. Didn't see the match but general chat from the updates page track was destined to catch someone out. With greatest respect it's bad enough running champ level meetings in these conditions, but at Ndl level it's insane. Had 4 riders coming to grief "practicing" at Leicester and now max very well may have life changing injuries. Appalling state of affairs. Best wishes Max, get well soon

  29. That accident for young Perry sounds horrific, like someone else has said there running finals now in worse conditions than earlier in the season when they called meetings off not good enough speedway authorities.and now a young lad has injuries which if are as bad as being reported will certainly mean he will miss a lot of next year never mind what state his mind will be in, this is no time to gloat or laugh but as most Poole fans had him in there team next year I guess a rethink is in order. but most importantly get well soon max perry and fingers crossed it’s not as bad as first feared.

  30. I agree someone with Brennan’s talent would soon suss out the Poole track. And his away track knowledge would make him a decent signing.

  31. I hope Max Perry is ok the accident he has just had was horrific. He was on the track for 1/2 hour and in an ambulance in the pits for 10-15mins being treated and is still there. All medics are with him. From the gates I don’t know if Max clipped a bike or throttle jammed he went in full pelt to the air fence which lifted on impact. Unfortunately he couldn’t clear the bike and it looked like it came down onto him. Credit to Dan Thompson who stayed with him the whole time even helping carry the stretcher. Update: 21:25 ambulance has now left the stadium.

  32. Is that how far Armadale is from Berwick. Always thought it was closer than that.

  33. Taken from this years rulebook 012.2 TEAM COMPOSITION A Premiership team’s initial declaration must not exceed 39.00 points for the top 6 riders. Rising Star riders will be declared at number 7. A Premiership teams declaration must not exceed 39.00 points in any declaration following the issue of established MA’s for 2023 for 6 riders, (excluding the Rising Star rider). Except where the MA of the introduced rider is equal to, or lower than the rider being replaced. A maximum of two riders declared in a Polish Ekstraliga team are permitted per team.

  38. When Leicester lost at Peterborough on 7 September, their Premiership season was over. No more Premiership meetings. When Leicester Cubs won at Belle Vue on 8 September and defeated Workington at home on 9 September it meant Belle Vue could no longer make the NDL play-off, so the final would be Leicester v Oxford. From that point (9 September) Leicester had to run a play-off final.... 1 meeting.... 52 days to do it in... over 7 weeks..... nearly 2 months of a 7 month season left.... How the hell did they fail?

  40. All matches should have second halves either with NJL action, or equivalent of NDL action. Must be possible to make something like that work. Gives a chance for people who previously wouldn't have gone to an NDL match the chance to see some potential up and coming youngsters.

  41. I agree. In the 60 years I've followed the sport we've had the Panthers, Northern, Barons and Dukes, none of whom drew good crowds, even in the 70's boom years. Not sure why things would change now.

  42. I remain very sceptical about Bradford being viable for league racing in particular. Their crowds were never great from my memory in the 90s (certainly when you compare it against the size of the stadium). You couldn’t accuse the Hams of putting together cheap teams either - they were always very strong teams and were particularly strong in the KO cup.
