  1. In football terms Glasgow won the league, Scunthorpe won the fa cup and Poole won the Johnstone paints trophy.

  5. I don't see what Ford's problem is here? Surely giving fans a chance to say thank you to a guy who led you to every trophy available until end of this season it should be made public? Was obvious one of Richard or Stevie were going and the anointed one has had a better year. Won't it potentially add more fans to the gate too in what is otherwise an end of season challenge match? Sure Steve no had a vintage season, but that happens to everyone who has a testimonial year in my experience.

  9. Well done to Scunthorpe the better team won over the two legs. What I do not get is the the responses from both sets of fans and the aggression. Poole always put out a competitive team and when they are doing well they like any team they put bums on seats when they travel away. The current state of the sport needs clubs like Poole and every other team to come to tapes in 2024 but if for any reason Poole lost out because of circumstances beyond their control such as the closure of the stadium, the sport overall would be poorer for it. Swindon have gone and now Wolves and Panthers are lost, Kent and Mildenhall may be kicked into touch, surely it is time to appreciate what teams are left because without those speedway in the U.K. is dead. Continually knocking clubs is counter productive and whilst a lot of what goes on is good natured banter, you cannot help but feel some of the vitriolic comments are counter productive. The Scorpions did what they needed to do and Poole came up short. So what. Just look forward to next season.

  10. Does Pickering not get a reduction for quitting the league for 2 weeks?

  11. I think it was £16 in 2018 last time we were at this level. £20 will be reasonable imo, although I can only imagine what some people will say when it’s announced it’s £20. But even non-league National League football is £20 to get in these days. Unfortunately some casual fans won’t realise the actual costs to put a meeting on.

  12. I come on here to follow the speedway news and hear first hand comments about what is happening in meetings. Unfortunately, I have to encounter the garbage that comes off your fingers. If you had wit or intelligence it wouldn't be so bad, but you are sadly lacking in both. Why you are allowed to remain on this forum is beyond me when you obviously have no knowledge of speedway and just come on here to wind people up. If you ever met any of the people you insult on here I guess you'd just wet yourself.

  13. I’m going for the below Glasgow Bingo lottery on team building 2024 depending what the prize is will alter accordingly. 1. Chris Harris 2. Tate Zischke 3.Connor Bailey 4.Danyon Hume 5.Josh Pickering 6. Lee Complin 7. Ace Piper This team comes to 38.42 but seeing as we got Vadim on a 5 I am sure we can wangle a little bit extra if the rumoured 38 is true..

  15. Might want to watch heat 14 again scunny were on a 5-1. Lawson was unlucky in heat 10 though. I thought heat 2 could have easly been rerun, red lights came on with 2 laps to go, Kemp could have got Thompson.

  17. Riders who excelled at long track have been mentioned in previous posts and one of these was Finnish rider, Timo Laine. As far as I can see, he never rode for a British speedway team but I seem to remember him riding at New Cross in a Speedway Internationale qualifying round in the early 60's - Norbold can probably confirm that. Laine won the gold medal at the European Longtrack Championship in the 1961 Individual Long Track European Championship. In addition, he won the Nordic Longtrack Championship three times (1964, 1965, 1966) and the Finish Longtrack Championship seven times (1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1972).

  18. I certainly hope that some way can be found for the NDL to be able to continue next season, but regardless of whether it does or doesn't, it shouldn't be beyond the wit of all tracks to be able to stage two heats and a final for locally based junior/beginner riders (strictly their own junior riders - not riders "shared" with other tracks!). These races should include one (or even both) of the home club's reserves as the "target man" but if said reserves think it is beneath them to race against beginners, or think that they should be paid for doing so, then do without them - but they shouldn't be too surprised if one of the newcomers is is rapid developer and that they lose their place in the team to him!

  25. It's left us a little bit stunned and it's not ideal. Doesn't sound like he wanted it Now finish work and had time to read more than first line very valid points. I don't understand the "stronger sides" argument. Everyone builds to the same average. In theory the teams should all at least be competitive. Reducing the limit won't even the playing field. The "better" clubs will still attract the more attractively averaged riders and still be ones to beat

  28. Why not let Steve say his goodbyes with a meeting left as he’s done a good job for Poole over all. Fair play to him for ignoring Ford’s decision.

  29. Yeah, I have no problem with it. Nice for riders to say it for themselves and say their goodbyes to fans if that is what they wish.

  32. And if rumours are correct most of the No 1's in teams now won't be in the league in 2024 (josh pickering ryan Douglas, sam masters etc ) so top money for a diluted product !!! Just hope fans will support a higher level speedway with weakened teams

  40. Yes. Even if there had been a rider who could've come in mid season for Lee and done better - which there wasn't - it would've been a terrible move because he was so good at getting the crowd and the kids hyped up. Not enough riders work the crowd, but he's brilliant.

  41. Agree completely. I think the objection was cause they saw it as fans running "ghost" teams with no intention whatsoever of reopening a track in the teams area. I see where the authorities are coming from in that respect but when Rye House ran in the 1999 Conference League using Mildenhall and Eastbourne as home tracks the consortium doing it didn't reopen Hoddesdon the next year, Len Silver did. But if the 1999 consortium hadn't reopened at Mildenhall and Eastbourne would Len Silver have been motivated to reopen the track the following year? In this day and age of not enough tracks any possibility/spark or little acorn that may lead to a track reopening has to be encouraged or at worst not hindered and/or nipped in the bud.

  42. I never quite got the objection and eventual banning of ghost teams. If you start with the objective of organizing a racing environment whereby young riders can get competitive track time on a regular basis and enough people are willing to pay to watch them, what's the problem?

  43. To be fair some clubs do treat their Juniors (and other Clubs Juniors) the same as their Paid Seniors and they are 100% included in that Club without being paid. The reality of it all is if your a Parent who can't invest £60,000 minimum to do at least 5 years needed (and upgrade equipment as you go) to be able to step into the NDL then as it is now your paying riders in the NDL who will never make it in the CL or PL (there's riders in NDL who have ridden for up to10 years who have barely got above a 3 points average) We hear Boughen etc has only been on the bike a year etc, he rode Moto x at the highest level for years and has done his time (Moto x route) the same as every other junior who's climbed the ranks and invested the money in training and track time, it's not the Clubs doing it. Riders wanting Van's, engines, ridiculous wages demands for the NDL is all wrong, if you have been riding for years you should already have the equipment!

  44. I think the 1960's to early 80's British speedway set up of 13 heats with a 2nd half including novice races was a great set up cause many riders cut their teeth this way. I know that most of the crowd would leave but personally I found many ordinary matches were made more interesting by seeing local novices trying to make their way in the sport after the main event. With regards to the NDL, British speedways 3rd Division, it has to be retained because since its inception in 1994 it has been one of the best things to happen to the sport. Countless numbers of riders have learned their trade at this level in a proper League set up something they would have been ready for at a higher level. Also like in the case of Workingtons reopening this season this lower cost League has enabled new venues. reopened venues and current tracks struggling to make it pay in the higher professional Leagues pay a platform to operate in. - Would Workington Northside have gone straight into the Championship without the safety net of the NDL to run in before? Birmingham and Eastbourne in recent years needed to drop into the 3rd tier in order to keep running. The likes of Mildenhall, Stoke, Somerset, St Austell, Kent, Linlithgow, Rye House, Buxton, Carmarthen, Scunthorpe, Plymouth, Wimbledon, Arena Essex, Skegness, Weymouth and Berwick only opened or reopened because of the existence of the lower cost 3rd Division. Many of these tracks went onto move into the higher Leagues keeping team levels up to a sustainable level. Looking at all the above facts disbanding the 3rd Division, the NDL in its current guise would be a negative move cause the gentler introduction into the sport for new tracks and new riders would not be there which would seriously hinder future existence of the sport in the UK.

  45. It doesn't always work like that. I well remember the 2007 season. We had a number of injuries and finished near the bottom. That year, the likes of Andrew Tully, Matthew Wethers and Derek Sneddon were 'stalwarts'. William Lawson had also featured for a while and, albeit not part of the declared 1-7, Aaron Summers was used as the equivalent of what's now an NL guest on a number of occasions. Roll on to 2008. Kaj Laukkanen and George Stancl were replaced by Ryan Fisher and THJ, joining the 5 named above. The result? A brilliant season. Strolled the league title and added the Premier Trophy for good measure. I should probably collect stats as to how many winter changes teams make on an annual basis. Sadly, I can't be bothered, so I can't actually say whether the above is the exception to any potential rule!
