The wording there that he needs 2 Leagues in the UK to make it pay is partly why British Speedways in the mess it's in, he see's it as a cash cow because Polands possibly not worked out for him. There should be no doubling up/down except for British Riders under 246 points

Whatever they come up with for a new version of the NDL they will have to tackle the issue of payments. Fifty percent and more of the current breed of NDL riders expect good payment for riding, some are paid the same as good Championship riders and this has to stop if there is to be any hope of clubs willing to run some form of NDL style racing alongside their current team racing. Riders have to get their heads round it being a ‘hobby’ at this level and not a full time job. Wasting their money on logo’s vans, fan merchandise etc, the priority is learning to ride first, then ‘race’, the time will come, if they are good enough, for the flash stuff. If there is to be a mini version of NDL type racing, perhaps as part of a national style second half racing, but regionalised to reduce travel costs, then riders have to get their head round it being a possible stepping stone to ‘semi professional’ racing, not a ‘good earner’ as some view it now. I do hope the powers that be come up with a workable alternative to the NDL or the sport will die.4 points

If Pickering can't make riding for a Friday track work with travelling to Poland how could he sign for a Saturday track?3 points

How about returning to the old fans favourite happiness is 40- 38 yes 13 heat matches then having a second half for junior racers3 points

Very surprised Claus isn't in their 2024 plans on a 6.24 average. A heatleader round Ashfield and better than that average away.3 points

I remember the old SJL.. I think all had four heats each in 3 man teans, with six heats in all... That could work maybe? Six lads per night getting more racing...3 points

It would appear to be a good opportunity for thrifty hide and seek enthusiasts to test their skills after the first match!3 points

I agree it could be hard to follow, but gotta give them credit for trying to give Mildenhall & Oxford fans the option of just paying to see their teams, when Berwick ran double headers fans has to pay full price (no usually double header reduction) even if just wanting to watch their team!3 points

Claus is only 37. Bomber will be 41 next month and no one is saying they don't want him back.2 points

I wasn't expecting Basso, Tarasenko and Brennan back but i'm surprised that Claus won't be around in 20242 points

That’s not going to happen for a number of reasons. The club will have double their ‘running bills’, staff, electric bills etc when the ‘2nd team’ may only attract a very small crowd so it’s a big financial loser. The NDL struggled to find enough riders of a reasonable standard this year so if there were more than 6-8 teams wanted to field a side it would be of a low standard, possibly MDL/ NJL standard, that won’t attract a crowd. If you try this with a 5 rider team, how many heats ? How many rides per rider ? What happens when the inevitable junior gets withdrawn after an injury leaving only 4 ? Aussies and Yanks aren’t going to be attracted by a ‘junior’ league. The sport struggled to complete its fixtures this year with the small number of clubs so it’s not the blank weeks that’s an issue, it’s the way the fixtures are planned , starting too early, finishing too late as October is no longer Speedway friendly.2 points

The idea that a new track “won’t be needed” is somewhat odd considering the current state of the sport in this country.2 points
-
That would work but how many clubs would run out of time and be up against a curfew so you get riders turning up but not getting an outing. If the powers that be really cared they would not allow the NDL to fall apart but do something constructive. Alternatively they could stop being total a..holes and allow any rider not attached to a club to ride in Nora arranged meetings without the threats that they have dished out in the past. As someone has already mentioned you have so many blank weeks during the summer months at many tracks when it is allegedly a summer sport so why not get clubs to fill those blanks with some form of meaningful competition for NDL riders.2 points
-
If something like that was to happen my prefered option would be four rider teams, with only one rider allowed to be over 23 and all have to be UK nationals. Lets focus this opportunity on developing home grown tallent.2 points

Well a truly outrages statement from Leicester speedway regarding pricing for a wet and cold Sunday Afternoon. Nobody knows if and when the first match will Finish or even the time the second one MIGHT START!!!!! The easiest and SAVVY promoters (DO WE HAVE ANY?) way to have dealt with this was to say..............................IT IS A TENNER for both matches, come and enjoy a great nights RACING! But hey this is British Speedway at its Best, same old, same old crap!!!!!!!!!!!!2 points

It sadly looks that way. So where do all the youngsters that Neil Vatcher is guiding through the ranks go now? Kent almost certainly out too, and Mildenhall must be extremely doubtful too. Such a shame, as I love NDL racing.2 points

It wouldn't surprise me if Dan didn't ride in the UK next season, surely as a professional Speedway rider the GP's are a priority. Dans form in the UK and the GP's went backwards in 2023. IMHO as Polish and Swedish tracks are more suited to his style, thats where he should ride and get back to winning ways. I say this with a broken heart as like most Belle Vue fans, I've seen Dan since he burst onto the scene in 2016. But his ambition and career must come 1st for him. That's my head talking, my heart wants him back.2 points

I guess it's where you draw line. Ace is still an NDL level rider with I think about a sub 6 average. He has done well to add over point in the champ. Whereas you'll have boughen, Perry, Killeen, hodder, mcgurk who have higher ndl averages than ace but will come in on 2s. Whatever the decision imo ace has to class as the NDL/ RS or however going to word it1 point

Why do we have to reduce it ? Clubs are more than capable of running 15 heats and a six heat second half….and more ! Redcar , and a few other northern clubs, do it every week.1 point

Piper isn't a 2 pointer though. So I'd imagine Complin as second string, Piper and 2 pointer. Which would mean more points for HLs.1 point

It's certainly in the "right" area being the industrial bit by the Football ground. I think the track is very small though so not sure what size track you could get inside it, maybe something Plymouth sized?1 point
-
Yeah I'd think be looking at around a 7 pointer at no.5 to give a semblance of top end strength leaving someone like bailey as your 3rd HL. Borke possibly on a 4 at no.2? Leaving a 5.00/ 5.5 to complete? Really is going to look like a much different league next season.1 point

Not unexpected news. Tarasenko was never going to be allowed to do a full season in champ by his polish club. won't take risk on Marcin again given what happened this season. Ben deserves to give Poland a real go without rushing around for flights after Friday meetings. Claus is pushing 40 and coming back from injury. As others have said hopefully means have bomber Lee and ace as a base to build from.1 point

"Brown says that the new team will be revealed midway through next month following the British Speedway AGM as the management continue to finalise new riders." No messing around by the sounds of it. Good to hear.1 point

Exactly! Keep the hundreds of potential new clubs on hold until they are needed lol1 point

I really don't agree how leicester have done this. I would have let fans in who had a ticket from week in for free as an apology for last week's mess. If a supporter didn't have a ticket from last week then they pay as normal. None of this wristband crap1 point

So if is in the rules, but is advantages to Sheffield, he is useless, if it is the rules but goes against Sheffield he will be OK didn't realise his job role included included making the rules or interpreting them1 point

Think they are both giving up Championship so they can commit more to Poland. Josh said on a podcast he was riding at Armadale on a Friday night then driving to London to catch a flight to Poland to race on Saturday. Polish teams have practice sessions and they were missing those. On a plus side for us Championship fans if these top riders are giving up our league for Poland maybe we can get back to regular weekly home meetings instead of working round riders schedules.1 point

With you on that one, I'd not be surprised to see Pickering back at a similar level in due course. Then again, good on him for giving it a go. I can't say I understand those crabbing Tom Brennan choosing to move up either - it's his career and his cross to bear if it goes south.1 point

He said he wants to focus on the Championship (which presumably means Oxford are staying there), and Under-24 in Poland.1 point

Many thanks to all fans who travelled to the meeting yesterday in spite of all the changes. Thanks to the riders who did attend and still managed to provide some entertaining races. Well done to Connor Bailey on the win, it's been a pleasure watching you fly round Northside and at times Redcar this season. In the likelyhood there will not be a third tier next season i'm excited at the prospect of rejoining the Championship. The increasing costs are a slight concern bearing in mind what happened to Laura. I hope Andrew/Steve are able to get the required level of support from team sponsors et al to help with the increased financial burden. Andrew spoke about infrastructure work planned for over the winter more specifically toilets and a stand. The energy and dedication of the whole team is admirable. British Speedway cannot afford to lose anymore clubs, i sincerely hope we see the return of Peterborough an excellent race track which always provided great Fours meetings and Wolverhampton. Hope we see you guys back asap !.1 point
