Now that the dust has settled (literally in the bottom of my shower).... That was not an enjoyable night at all! Shielfield Park used to be a fortress...now the only team that seem to struggle regularly are the home team. Very little dirt and what was there was a matter of 2-3 feet from the safety fence! If, as someone mentioned earlier, Kevin little is quoted as saying that the track suited the Brummies more, then as team manager what the hell is he going to do about it!! Give our team a track they can do something with! Saying that and not acting upon it is a bit of a slap in the face to those fans attending! I have said it before and I'll say it again, I can cope with losing if I'm at least being entertained in the process! But that last night was hard to watch!! (From what could be seen) The concrete base was visible from very early on... Yes, I understand the football was on and obviously not much time for on the day track prep but what about the rest of the week! We've had warmish weather in Berwick all week leading up to that and even yesterday, in between the drizzle, it was still warm! Glasgow next week are going to give us a proper arse kicking... I said to the hubby last night I genuinely don't think we will win another meeting this year.... There is a group of die hard fans at Berwick that are losing patience... A group that would travel the length and breadth of the country to watch their team... a group that are now finding home meetings a struggle...They are the group of people you can't afford to lose... And I thought 2007 would not be repeated!7 points

To have any fighting chance it must ensure its competitions become relevant... And to do that means giving them credibility, integrity, and some kudos for winning.. Currently none of the above 3 key elements apply, meaning nothing else anyone does will sort it's current struggles..6 points

Why’s that cause it’s not flat out and massive and actually takes a bit of throttle control to ride. Separates riders with actual bike skill to throttle junkies.6 points

The fans got to see plenty of Phil Morris though.. What more do people want for crying out loud...? Risking his life, race directing, for our entertainment.... Who could not help but be enthralled watching him in action with his wonderful catchphrase... "Do you need methanol?".. And as for his raking skills.? Worth the admission alone just to see him rake that two yard patch of track... It's not all about those GP riders you know.. Some people need to open their minds.. Cannot await to see Phil race direct in Cardiff..6 points

How many times have we heard Bomber say “I’m thinking of leaving the sport” Let’s get one thing straight he can’t do anything else so all this nonsense about retiring is crap.6 points

I'm beginning to think that Cierniak is going places this year and that he is going to become a force to be reckoned with in the future. Think thats the first time I've ever seen any aggression from him, but wherever I've seen him this season he is always on the pace of the very top guys. GPs in a couple of years time. I shouldn't make these predictions, that'll probably put the kybosh on him !4 points

There's some weirdos on here that can't let go that he was involved in an incident about 20 years ago and have this vendetta of hatred against him... sad, sad people! Personally i find watching him quite entertaining and gives an extra insight into what it takes to run these meetings. Better than watching endless replays or listening to Kelvin Tatum prattle on. He's does sound like a drug dealer though when he's trying to sell his methanol4 points

Have seen king take that wide line from where I stand on exit of second turn a thousand times, he knows Foxhall better than anyone if he’s behind and the gaps closing he backs out, he’s a brave rider and will keep it open when there’s room and when he’s alongside but he’s not stupid and knows when to yield when behind. He definitely wasn’t expecting that from nicolai hence he kept it wound on having got the run and being alongside with room to race which was taken away with zero time to get out of the way and avoid a crash. no bias on my part, if that was an Ipswich rider doing it to an away rider I’d be just as outraged, if anything more outraged as an avid fan, I expect a better level of respect to be shown by my team on the track. just really don’t like seeing people get fenced, hard but fair racing is great entertainment, standing with a lump in throat wondering if a rider 20 metres in front of you strewn out on the stock car track having been sent through two sections of air fence and 3 wooden fence panels is not, that was a big crash and Danny lucky not to be seriously hurt - like others have said was a very similar incident to one that effectively ended mark loram’s career. and of all the people to do it to, Danny one of the fairest riders about not a bad bone in his body.4 points

Just look at Poland they changed from one-off final to three round series and they have nothing but problems now and it has lost much of its appeal. Keep the British Final as a one-off final, that's the best3 points

It is not an extra payday, it costs to do the meeting unless you reach top four. As for pulling out late, he only found out when they did the draw that he was in it. Scotty has pulled out as well, but no comments on here, speedway is imploding in the UK and everyone wants to carry on as it were. It will be too late very soon.Riders need to be more involved in decision making and ideas. We cannot afford 2 min clocks to keep meetings moving but we can have transponders that will bring the fans back in their thousands (sarcasm).3 points

Indeed... Someone attending ANY speedway meeting is helping to keep that track going.. And, by definition, the sport itself... I used to attend Sheffield and Stoke on a Thursday and Saturday, and often miss the Aces meeting on the Friday as the racing wasn't as good as the racing getting served up at the other two tracks in the 2nd Div.. If your local track isnt serving up enough entertainment, then support the sport by still attending somewhere else who is...3 points

In a sport that needs as many new competitors as it can get, it is encouraging to see this forum encouraging 50% of the population to take up speedway. Again, speedway's obsession with 'team' racing sees it miss an opportunity. Women's speedway could easily be a thing and bring welcome numbers into the industry and publicity to the sport. Not every competitor needs to challenge to be a world champion, sometimes being a participant is all that matters. Speedway's lack of inclusion is just one of things that will lead to its demise.3 points

I don’t mind Phils pit tours a bit different to the usual rider interviews , plus the snippets of conversations are heard between riders an Phil.3 points

I’m a Rye House fan, have been since 1985, so I’ve seen my share of rubbish teams, as well as league title winning sides (2005 & 2007). I had the privilege of seeing Tai race in Rockets colours as a 17 year old, a remarkable talent. My missus is a die hard Bandit fan, always has been, but her patience has been severely tested this season. We both have seasons passes, and if it wasn’t for the fact that we live 2 minutes from the track we probably wouldn’t go to every meeting, that’s how down she is about the team she’s been watching for over 30 years. Despite being a die hard Rocket I’ve bought the Bandits merch and contribute to the monthly supporters club, who in turn help out the speedway club financially. I don’t want to see the Bandits fold, but with dwindling crowds and rising costs I fear there will be no speedway at Berwick next year. We used to look forward to our Saturdays at the speedway, but nowadays it’s become a bit of a chore “how many are we losing by this week?” I suspect… well I know… we’re not the only ones.3 points

When the very top riders in the world are gathered together there are only a few tracks in existence that will allow them to perform at their very best. Riga, unfortunately was not one of them. Get 4 top riders all bunched together going into the 1st corner after a start is crazy when the track is not good. Last night amplified that. Organisers would have known that track surface at Riga was not the best and would cause problems, whether or not the under 21 team championship was the day before. I know the organisers are trying to use a variety of countries to hold these prestigious GP events, but that has to be weighed against the doubtful benefit if the track doesn’t give good racing. The riders are very willing to give their best, that is obvious, what they need is tracks that will facilitate their willingness to the full, nothing less. Long narrow straights, tight bends with no or little banking, plus a dubious surface and you are inviting poor world class races. The excitement really was not there last night. Any spectator who travelled many miles/hours to a beautiful city like Riga to be dished up what was on last night certainly deserve better. Who could blame them if they didn’t return. Certainly encourage countries to put on a show, but just ensure they have all the backing to put on a show with the very top riders. It was lacking last night.3 points

So we're happy for top foreigners to start making a return to our shores, but when Woffy shows some intent on returning, we say he's not worthy. Think on people, we don't have too many top riders on which we can pin a Union Flag. Woffy is doing a bloody good job for Sheffield and there is a very good chance he will be riding here full time next year. He's still box office and I for one want to see him up against Dan and all the others, competing for the British Championship. If you don't agree, don't tune in.3 points

https://www.bellevue-speedway.com/blog/latest-news-2/meeting-preview-2023-sports-insure-british-final-143 I am sure this will be a great meeting, and I really can not understand the negative attitude of some of the BSF members. Come on give it a go and make it an event to enjoy. A big crowd and great atmosphere at the stadium could show the riders like Woffinden and Lambert that the British Final is a meeting not to be missed. A more positive approach can change many things around.2 points

Exactly this, Bart will have it his own way for a good few yrs i think tbf, there's plenty of riders in the series that can take points off him now and again but can't do it regularly, plus 9 times outta 10 he'll deliver when it matters at the business end of a GP when others fail.2 points

Thats the whole thing about British speedway. Back in the 70s and 80s every senior team had one if not two international class heat leaders. Now adays riders can't even be bothered with the likes of the BLRC which used to be considered a prestigious title to win. The British Final used to be a Brilliant event with all the qualifiers at every track, the semi finals and then the final leading 5o the next round of or even the World Final. The GP series did more damage to British Speedway than is calculatable.2 points

I was there. No one at the track was bored. The first half of the meeting was really good, although it did tail off in the second half of the meeting. It certainly wasn't the worst SGP meeting of the year.2 points

Entry X1 programme X1, 130 miles of fuel then. You can’t include other people’s costs and food costs for god sake. No reason why you can’t eat at home rather than getting a takeaway and including it in the cost of speedway. You choose for your trip to cost £100.2 points

Been a Berwick fan since Jonesy was captain, thought a forum was for views, money's tight nowadays no entertainment factor at Berwick these days so would rather spend my £20 to see decent racing if that makes me a glory hunter so be it,to be honest I know of at least 11 people near to where I stand haven't been back this year and a couple were season ticket holders make of that what you will.2 points
