  3. No. If only Leicester could find a rider like Dan Thompson. ...oh wait a minute didn't we have one, what was his name? Oh yes I remember ... Dan Thompson.

  4. Watched a very poor team get thrashed last night. After a few hours to let it sink in, I have come to a conclusion. The riders getting slated weren't signed to ride where they ended up after the Pedersen fiasco. Iversen was never going to be a number 1, & everyone else had to move up to cover the fact that the team is so far under the team building limit. Cook at reserve would be good as one example. The only person to blame for this is Chapman, not the riders.

  5. Is it as popular as you are led to believe though? It's very easy to fill stands when you are giving away tickets or selling them for the same price as a McDonalds meal. I've nothing against women's football but the standard is poor. It is being rammed down our throats that it is the most popular sport in the world right now. If that was so you would see houses and pubs decked out in England flags for the women's world cup and so far I have only seen one.

  9. Difference being our issue was with our own team with that performance , this has just been made up to make it look as if Glasgow fans. We’re again unhappy with there team. Which is just not true so the only thing made up was that report Lisa..

  10. Think at this stage in his career he should be playing the long game and not just be going for the biggest monetary offer. Things like logistics, practice facilities will be important, and the right choices now may yield a more rewarding longer term return.

  11. I really do wonder about some speedway fans,,,, why would you drop Riss now,, after we wasted all this time whilst falling out of play off contention. His average must be dropping like a stone,,, so surely you keep him on the team with his average keeping on going down for next year. We ain't gonna win jack all this year,, as per normal,, so use it to our advantage for next year.

  12. Absolutely hate the use of a tactical for the home side. It’s difficult enough as it is to win away from home, tacticals should be either the away side only, or none at all.

  13. Obviously (at least i hope) something probably not translating properly here. But it might be a way to get the crowds back again ? Well, not the wokes of course.

  15. Really pleased he has, but could still retire at the end of the season. Always be a legend in my opinion, & deserves a farewell meeting to appreciate his efforts for Panthers over the years.

  17. Trouble with these ideas and comparisons Wasn't it someone with a lot of money that forced changes in cricket ? And also of course recently golf And wasn't it money and pretty much a dictator that helped darts and snooker ? I don't think there is either in speedway. Plus this sort of plan would then mean a new sport basically and desperate the UK from the rest of the world Women's football is an interesting one though. The same game, just with different competitors, and for the life of me I don't know why, but it has become far more popular than speedway

  19. Berwick do a really nice programme too but rarely gets decent marks from the paragraphing twins in Speedway Star review

  20. Have you not seen the script? Plymouth need to win by 6 points to get into the playoffs. Edinburgh need a Berwick win by 2 or less. Berwick need to win by 4. So my friend told me.

  22. The bonus point system is far better than the convoluted system of points given depending on how many points you won the meeting by, if you were home or away, which way the wind was blowing etc. The main reason for this being that it is simple. It also keeps some meetings alive until the end as there is still something to race for. Granted, the above system does the same but in a much more complicated manner. We should be looking to keep things simple. Easily explainable to newcomers. We could easily follow football’s lead and make it three points for a win and one for a draw. That would work too but may result in more tonkings and average manipulation once meetings are sewn up.

  28. Believe it or not, but terrestrial channels are not the big deal they once were. Younger audiences in particular don't watch 'live' TV, and the way people consume media has changed massively. Specialist channels like Sky, BT Sport and Eurosport are perfect for delivering sport to enthusiasts, giving an in depth presentation of the sport that's better than being there. Social media has democratised broadcasting. Streaming live on Facebook and YouTube allows large audiences to be reached. If you want to broadcast free to air, there's no need to work with the BBC, ITV or Channels 4 or 5. If British Speedway wants to broadcast free to air then it can do so through social media, where it can carefully target its audience. I suspect, however, that wouldn't make commercial success for a business which relies almost solely on spectators coming through the gate. Not sure I understand what you mean by 'the days of main stream coveage have long gone to be replaced by sports that fit the modern agenda/gender and cultural needs' and I doubt you do either. What's broadcast on general interest channels are popular sports. BBC has an obligation to deliver value for money. Commercial channels have an obligation to deliver programming which attracts enough viewers to attract sponsorship and advertisers. Live sport, especially action sports, are expensive to make for a small audience, but if 100,000 people watched speedway live every week there's a very good chance broadcasters would see value in running it. It's not about being 'fans' or fitting an 'agenda' it is about numbers. As Kelvin Tatum would say 'there's no question about that'

  36. BIRMINGHAM bosses have made the early decision to rearrange Wednesday’s (August 2) scheduled home fixture against Plymouth. The Curtis Sport Brummies were due to meet the Gladiators in the Cab Direct Championship at Perry Barr. But with the track already sodden and several forecasts showing thundery showers from Tuesday night and throughout the whole of Wednesday, bosses have made the decision early to minimise inconvenience for all.The two clubs have swiftly agreed a restaging date and the two will now meet at Perry Barr on Wednesday, September 6.It means the Curtis Sport Brummies will begin a hectic schedule at home to Redcar on Wednesday, August 9 (7.30) - that will be their first of eight meetings in the space of five weeks.

  40. He may only have one suit for the season. They’re not cheap and sponsors will want their sponsorship shown, particularly in a TV meeting. Not vintage Bomber but wouldn’t say he’s past it. Thompson was the only rider to beat him last night that would have been a major upset when looking at the heats on paper. As TV meetings go it was entertaining but as always overproduced. One minute races don’t need so many cuts and different camera angles. Save the fancy shots and helmet cam for replays.

  41. The line up is just another example of how far the general standard of speedway in the UK had fallen , the days of star studded British finals are long gone unfortunately,. Back in the day this was a rung on the ladder towards qualification for the World Final , I can’t see anyone in the lineup who would challenge for a world title

  43. I have never seen so much Speedway coverage as I do now... However. The major companies wont get involved with it in the UK as it cannot be taken seriously... And you don't ever want to potentially damage your own brand by association with something that can be open to ridicule... If the sport went out to a wider audience not aware of the sport, via the BBC or ITV,, their first impression after watching it for a few weeks would be how coincidentally amazing it was that most teams seemed to have someone called Chris Harris rwpresenting them...

  44. Assuming we still have the same 3 league structure next season, I can see him wanting to ride in all three leagues. And again assuming the Rising Star system works the same as this year with the worst team having first choice, then first pick would likely go to his hometown club King's Lynn. (although I'm getting the impression he would rather go to Belle Vue or Leicester than King's Lynn). Championship (unless Glasgow try to throw money at him and turn his head) I reckon he'll go to Oxford where he has links with Peter Shroeck. National League would then be able to double up with either his Championship or Premiership club at either Oxford, Belle Vue or Leicester.

  48. Wouldn't be surprised with all the sh*t Damian Bates has had to put up with from the keyboard warriors in recent months. Who would keep pumping their money into trying to entertain a small minority of sports fans when the vocal element of that minority anonymously rip into you every chance they get. I certainly wouldn't!
